Lowe's tends to use these a lot, a least what I can gather from other people who have commented on this video. One I've been to has these not only for the emergency exits, but as well as a restroom alert signal as well.
I've seen these in white with the blue lens before. They are at a school located about an hour morth of my area. They are used as lockdown alarms, and are set to whoop.
+NewEnglandElevators my old town high school had commander 4 blue strobed set on continuous tone for lockdown C3 yellow strobe for tornado C2 green for CO2 C1 red and clear strobe for fire
My local Lowes has these alarms attached to Emergency Exit doors on the outside garden area. They also have weatherproof casing. My Lowe's main fire alarms are Wheelock MT
My local Lowe’s has one of these as an emergency exit alarm. It replaced a blank white SHG (the other ones are still intact). The fire alarms, unsurprisingly, are Radionics T-Bars and Radionics branded wall and ceiling mounted Wheelock AS Horn/Strobes.

My Lowe’s has these by the exits and are used for the security, shoplifting, and flood alarm systems. The emergency exits when opened set off the fire alarms which are wheelock as wall and ceiling mount.
Lowe's seems to use these a lot. I've seen them next to emergency exits, as well as being used as a bathroom alarm. Never thought they would be used for Tornado/Lockdown stuff, either.
it's OK to do that in a private setting like your house what he meant was that by code in a public place you wouldn't be allowed to use it as a fore alarm.
They have those blue models as Emergency exit door alarms at the Lowe's here in Monroe. They also are set on the "Whoop" tone. Sorry to say this but, Holy crap, those things are loud. Aside from that, they have the red Wheelock AS model Fire alarm horn and strobes, honestly.
It’s not rare technically, you can buy them all over. This look rare because of its color, but it is not a partitioned “FIRE alarm”, it’s used, as en example, for a tornado alarm, or an active shooter alarm, or a bomb threat alarm.... you get the point.
The ones where the device is a full color other red/white seem to not be as common anymore, I don't think they are even being made. The ones that you mentioned now seem to come with a white body, but with a colored lens for the different notification purpose as you're getting. Congrats on your newest acquisition!
I haven't seen any Amber Simplex strobes yet, though I have seen a few clear lensed "ALERT" TrueAlerts. Too bad they don't come in a wide variety of colors like this.
Glad to see another person with the same device (though if you spray pant another trim plate blue, you could get it to match, lol). Interesting to hear of one made that far back (2006). Merry Christmas!
Anything you want, as long at it's not fire alarm use. Most common use I've seen and heard of for these are emergency door devices; not fire alarm, but still notification related.
These general use notification appliances are also commonly used in ADA suites at hotels for a doorbell system. I've also seen these general use alarms in parking garages, used as a warning for when the doors are closing .In fact that one was a also a Gentex Commander 3, except it was white with an amber strobe. And it had a sign posted above it that read: "WHEN ALARM SOUNDS, STAND BACK FROM DOORS."
***** Gentex does not directly sell blue mass notification devices anymore, but they do make the colored lenses for factory and aftermarket installations.
Never thought of it that way. There's a SpectrAlert Advance that was rebranded by BluePoint systems with a blue shell that's made for police alert use. Again, it's a general notification device, so I'm sure there's a billion uses out there for this, including police.
It could be used as a security alarm, it may even be designed for that purpose, but it can be used for general notification. General notification includes things like tornado alarms, hurricane warnings, and in some cases security.
They often use them at Lowes as door alarms that are activated when two magnets loose contact when the door opens.
I could use this as a "I'm not in a good mood alarm"
These general alarms are somewhat common at Lowe's.
NorCalDude599 yeah I see them a lot at Lowe's

ive seen these at a clinic i went to before, usually they are used for fire drills and stuff.
Fire drills? Must be used on a private signaling setup then (not meant for the public to be alerted, staff responds first).

Something about building codes requires the fire alarms to have red on them and be easy for anyone in the building to identify.
Nathaniel Lind known as NLind on RUclips has one as well but he tested his with batteries.
Gary Beltz yes, a 24vdc alarm could be powered by batteries, as batteries output dc voltage.
