It shows that the mechonis on the inside is just as big and impressive as the bionis is on the outside.
@@brianv9242 yeah I also loved going through the central factory as well, it's just so large and the music is amazing, but then again so is pretty much the rest of the ost.
Can I just say how much I love the parallels between Bionis and Mechonis? Really think about it. You start the infiltration of Mechonis the same way you began the game: on Sword Valley. The game then shifts focus to a town at the base of the Mechonis, where you then travel up its leg and eventually go inside the titan, which leads you to the capital located at the head. Sound familiar? I love subtle storytelling like that. It's a way to show the player that the Bionis and the Mechonis are a part of the same world and are similar in many ways. The entire game you're lead to believe the Mechonis is a malevolent force that needs to be destroyed when in reality its people are just as lost and confused as the Homs because of a war that's lasted for ages. It's simply beautiful. And this music to tie it all together is just perfection. It's a melancholic tune that plays as you climb this hulking metal behemoth to the presumed end of the game, letting you process all of the twists and turns the story threw at you not a few hours prior. Not to mention it slaps so damn hard. It's a great piece and probably one of my favourite tracks in the whole OST.
In order to understand the mechans, we needed to get inside their heads. Once we came to understand how broken and hollowed out they had become due to a past tragedy, we had to get to the heart of the issues that still plagued them. Don't you see? Our outward journey on and inside the mechanis mirrored what we end up doing for egil. We try to reason with him but we can't, so we try to remind him there is still family that loves him; people he keeps close to his heart.
One thing I really like is that the bionis is designed to be as natural as possible. For example, at the leg of the bionis you start the game by exiting the right route of a fork in the road, that later leads back to tephra cave. Such branching winding paths are often seen in nature, with your path up the bionis being so winding is a great example of such. The mechonis completely contrasts this. To show such, take mechonis field itself. It's essentially the fuel tank of mechonis (quick tangent but this is well integrated into a stage hazard) and has a straight elevator shaft through, with different floors to host the power mechon. It's not wild, like the gaur plains but it's still outside of civilisation. Another great detail is that you and up walking the pipes of the upper half of the mechonis' central factory, showing how the biology of the mechonis is much more suited to the mechon than the homs and high entia considering you have to take the improper path. One last interesting contrast is that the head of the bionis is a whole ecosystem, the mechonis head is a gigantic fuel exhaust. It's a really well done contrast.
SLIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD: Another thing I noticed was how the scenery on the Fallen Arm was a mix of Bionis and Mechonis. From the moment you first see the beach, you wonder where you could have landed. Then you see the plant life along with the biological creatures living amongst the metal, and you almost can't believe that this was once a part of the Mechonis. Even better is if you look at the first cutscene, you can see that the arm was once fully mechanical, implying that biological life had begun to grow and live on it over time. To me, it sends a message that Bionis and Mechonis could one day live in harmony again.
The journey on this mechanical field is relatively shorter than on Bionis, but somehow, this place will eventually become one of the most unforgettable areas in this game due to the huge reverse impression toward this Mechonis world with the very turning point of the plot, the strange mechanical scenes different from Bionis, and of course, this epic song.

@grantabeyta9054 XC1 Definitive Edition looks better than 2. Also, the environments of each game can't be compared because they're completely different, I think.
The best part of this track is how at about 1:24, where the music swells, I'm almost certain is synchronized EXACTLY with the moment you hit the opening preview cutsene, where this new area - your first real taste of the Mechonis - opens up for you to see in all its glory (assuming you ran straight along the path, which most people do). Gosh that feels so electric (pardon the pun)!
You know a song is incredible when you get continuous nostalgia from it without even playing the game. I started with X2 and played X3 on release, solidifying Xenoblade as my single favorite game/series of all time.
Right now my ultimate goal is to lucid dream on command so that I can put myself in the world of Xenoblade with the ability to fly so I can fly inside mechonis vibing to this song

@@karmierez especially since both take place right before two climatic final fights, and the first one is fused with the main technology based beings throughout the series. (Egil in the Mechonis, and Amalthus with Core Crystals)
Xenoblade 2 has a lot of thematic analogues to XC1 with its music and some of the design (If you want to be literal, the 2nd copied the first game's notes, which I'd argue they should've done more rather than inserting more anime-esque fanservice elements but overall the end product is still better than most jrpgs in my opinion) XC2 has a new 'mechanical rhythm' half-point battle theme, a new 'engage the enemy', a new 'you will know our names', etc world tree is basically that game's mechonis field, gormott is gaur plains, uraya is satorl marsh. I enjoyed XC2 a lot but after playing definitive it's really easy to see all the stuff that the original did better
"Ok let's make this the largest single area in the game, with like a billion switches and elevators" "Won't that be annoying by the end?" "I got this really good song though"
this is the track that made me go: "oh, so this is how David Wise gets knocked off his pedestal" it's not a competition, but its the first time in gaming where I felt like an OST was seriously rivalling against one of the GOATS in game music.
Upon entering this area in the game and hearing this music kick in, I was just frozen in awe and appreciation of what I had been experiencing in the game so far.
I'm so sad. I just got home from getting a couple of cavities filled and this song came on during the drive back. I wanted to whistle along with the melody, but since my entire upper lip is numb I can't whistle right now
This has that vibe, you know the vibe, the "you are in enemy territory and shouldn't mess out with it too much cuz if you do, you'll be in for a trouble" vibe, that vibe. But you can't help it being here for too long, because the song is way too good, arguably the best song in the game. I was like "why does this sounds so different compared to all other places, and why is this amazing?", also, i have certain admiration for mechanical/future environments since i was a kid, a loooooong time ago, so that also makes me like this even more
@@yes6369 Late reply but I would argue Origin's ost is the equivalent. There is even a more sci-fi sounding version of the track that plays in Origin (called Origin Section A), it just only plays in one cutscene
To be fair, there are plenty of places with the sole purpose of climbing around the enemies. The devs themselves knew how good this theme was, so they decided that even the absolute banger that is Mechanical Rhythm shouldn't be able to interrupt it.
To a lot of other people this song seems to represent the vastness of Mechonis. For me personally it more so represented the coldness of enemy territory. The party is behind enemy lines, climbing the lifeless husk of the enemy they've been facing for so long and this ethereal synth accompanies their delve into the mechanical labyrinth
I adore this track heavily. I wasn't expecting so much emotion and such a fantastic arrangement of instruments for Mechonis. It's oddly fitting, especially in retrospect where you're at the final quarter of the experience, with *Fiona* of all people. It's just wonderful, I spent several minutes listening to it for the first, and was thoroughly impressed.
First thing when I got here. Listened to this theme while staring at the Bionis in the Sunset. It was beautiful. Mechonis Field is up there for my favorite locations in the game.
Just past the mechonis field a few hours ago and this theme has to be my favorite so far. I missed out on this game for so long, but I'm finally going to finish it.😁
I really do think this track is a lot more genius than people give it credit for. (Spoilers, obviously) What do you often picture when you imagine the end game? The main base for the enemies you had spent the entire game building up to? Oppression? Tension thicker than a bog? Hostility? Especially with an environment so *mechanical*, you'd at least expect it to have an underlying sense of danger to it, right? Well, that may be true for the environment itself, but the Mechonis is not -- and has never been your enemy. You step foot within the mechanical titan, and you're hit with a wave of pure wonder. Perhaps the same sense of wonder you felt when traversing your own home; The Bionis. The tones are almost upbeat. You at least sense no threat within the music itself, rather it almost makes you feel welcome to be there. Makes you feel a strange sense of warmth, and not just from the electricals overheating. You've painted such a vivid picture in your head on how you'd percieve the Mechonis when entering enemy territory, and yet you're conflicted almost immediately thanks to the soothing synths and hearty rhythm. Shulk up until this point, has practically felt the same.
When I first went through this area, I immediately got strong world tree vibes from XC2. Both have a mystical, mechanical wonder to them… But XC1’s mechonis field feels more like you’re running into the center of a giant factory, while the World Tree feels more like you’re entering a giant futuristic city. It’s wild, the contrast between the 2.
The differences are more subtle, but they really did improve on a masterpiece with their new version of Mechonis Field. One of my favorite songs of all time, even outside of videogames

The main reason was that pretty much all the enemies had spike damage and in the original game, enemies that had spike damage weren't made as obvious so it was really easy to run up to something, backslash, and die instantly lol
I think it had something to do with the color scheme being mostly brown, and since the original was on the Wii, it did not look very great. There was also lots of enemies with spikes, and the spikes were extremely unfair in the original

Frrr, I have two friends who got this game after I recommend them, but they aren't quite used to grand adventure games like I am so they're taking their sweet ass time ahaha. I just wish they'd make it mechonis! Then they wouldn't be able to stop playing!
it's okay XC3 is coming soon anyway 😗
Nothing like your first experience playing a game. Especially when it's a Xenoblade game.
lobotomy
POV: It's 9 P.M. You just rescued Fiora, and were about to call it a night. But suddenly, the soundtrack hits you with its sweet synth beat. You look at the clock, then back at the screen, and sigh. It's gonna be a late, late night...
Stolen comment but ok
That is scarely accurate actually, especially the time.
@@Lyu-Phy yeah, the same thing happened to me as well...
Maaan those were the days, playing this game all the way until 4am... I miss when I could do that :

*DEFINITIVE EDITION DID MY FAVORITE MECHONIS SONG SOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD*
Truly one of the best soundtracks in the entire game, if not, the best
Me: Dresses party in M100 series costumes
Egil: Okay so I'm adding Cultural Appropriation to your list of sins!!
M100 Riki: "RIKI WANT HUGS"
No, seriously. Riki becomes a walking spike ball or a metallic durian.
I hate/love how real is this, but hey, in our defense, the M100 costumes are freaking cool 🤣
I used the M100s for sneaking into Galahad Fortress. Didn’t expect M100 Dunban from the final Metal Face fight to reappear in a flashback
Aaand I've fallen in love all over again, I'm never leaving this track
I think this is my favourite song from the game. Actually hearing it in the game as opposed to just listening to in in RUclips makes it feel so special.
1:50 is so gooood
It also really sounds like world tree theme
@@Vinterprod Most of the music in Xenoblade 2 was pastiches of tracks from the first game.
and then spoilers
The mechonis blew up
Holy cow, this track is just as epic as the OG!
I got chills listening to it!
Goosebumps everywhere.
World Tree vibes! (For those who've play xbc2).
You could say bionus is the bean stalk and Elysium in its prime and mechanis is the aftermath!
@@ShadowSkyX I really loved Xenoblade Chronicles 2, I really did. But when I saw the Mechonis field, with this music... that feeling defeated everything I found in XC2. I felt so small...
@@Alfonso88279 I played XC1 back in the day and put the game down multiple times, even restarting a file because i dropped it for so long. Felt the same slog around valak mountains, though the second try i pushed forward, for plot. When this song kicked in, and climbing up the Mechonis, I felt chills, a drive. It was after that moment i wanted to experience the game the story, and to just come back to this area after it was all said and done and just let the music take me.
The Mekonis field hit me really hard. It felt amazing. Those humongous machines, those red lights, the music...
Honestly, the enemies were a nuisance XD, they broke slightly the amazing immersion.
Such an amazing game, Xenoblade Chronicles.
it's funny that they added loads of ladders around the field so if you just wanted to enjoy the view and music you could
Sounds like something straight out of Metroid Prime...
I love it
There will never, ever be another game like XBC1.
*cereal guy spitting out his food*
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D
XBC2
@grantabeyta9054 Not even. That game has its strengths but it doesn't have environments like what XC1 has
@@flamingpaper7751 what 2 looks better and has better environments
@grantabeyta9054 XC1 Definitive Edition looks better than 2. Also, the environments of each game can't be compared because they're completely different, I think.
This feels like we're in an alien territory or planet, with so many unknowns, but fascinating sights to behold while exploring this uncharted space!!
5:30
I played Xenoblade 2 before this game and thought I was in the World Tree again with the music and you rising up the entire time
same, I wonder what the equivalent is going to be for this type of area in the third game
You know a song is incredible when you get continuous nostalgia from it without even playing the game. I started with X2 and played X3 on release, solidifying Xenoblade as my single favorite game/series of all time.
XC1 is on eshop, just waiting for you.
Right now my ultimate goal is to lucid dream on command so that I can put myself in the world of Xenoblade with the ability to fly so I can fly inside mechonis vibing to this song
i remember playing xc1 on my new nintendo 3ds xl back in 2015 on a calm evening and hearing this song for the very first time...it literally changed my entire life. THIS MASTERPIECE is my favorite xc1 song and my all time favorite video game song like nothing even comes close to beating it. it's just...there's absolutely no words to describe how perfect this song is, nothing at all
I love it too. It's great study/workout music! 👌🏾
This place and this theme remind me a lot of the World Tree from Xenoblade 2.
It is kinda similar to the cliff of morytha, ya think?
@@marianvalkyrie Yeah true, and then the Mechonis capital is like Morytha itself.
Felt exactly the same while reaching the world tree in XC2, was immediately thrown back to the first game
@@karmierez especially since both take place right before two climatic final fights, and the first one is fused with the main technology based beings throughout the series. (Egil in the Mechonis, and Amalthus with Core Crystals)
Xenoblade 2 has a lot of thematic analogues to XC1 with its music and some of the design (If you want to be literal, the 2nd copied the first game's notes, which I'd argue they should've done more rather than inserting more anime-esque fanservice elements but overall the end product is still better than most jrpgs in my opinion)
XC2 has a new 'mechanical rhythm' half-point battle theme, a new 'engage the enemy', a new 'you will know our names', etc
world tree is basically that game's mechonis field, gormott is gaur plains, uraya is satorl marsh. I enjoyed XC2 a lot but after playing definitive it's really easy to see all the stuff that the original did better
This sounds like the composers of Metroid Prime and Xenoblade Chronicles had the perfect child that made this amazing masterpiece.
"Ok let's make this the largest single area in the game, with like a billion switches and elevators"
"Won't that be annoying by the end?"
"I got this really good song though"
this is the track that made me go: "oh, so this is how David Wise gets knocked off his pedestal"
it's not a competition, but its the first time in gaming where I felt like an OST was seriously rivalling against one of the GOATS in game music.
The first time? Have you never heard anything made by Toby Fox, Christopher Larkin or Lena Raine?
This is potentially my favorite piece of music in the game. The synthesizers and waves are just so good.
This is a solid representation of how chill the machina are compared to, say, zanza or pre-zanza Egil
I love just what this song means, that to the machina that was a field. Their Gaur Plains.
Upon entering this area in the game and hearing this music kick in, I was just frozen in awe and appreciation of what I had been experiencing in the game so far.
This was one of my favorite songs in the original, and I fell in love with it all over again thanks to this arrangement. Thank you, Monolith.
"We are going inside!"
Still to this day gives me the chills
thats what she said
Tbh I wished I forgot the whole game so I could just get the first time experience once more
Same
I definitely didn’t expect an area on the Mechonis to have a theme like this. It slaps
I'm so sad. I just got home from getting a couple of cavities filled and this song came on during the drive back. I wanted to whistle along with the melody, but since my entire upper lip is numb I can't whistle right now
this is a really amazing track. such a vibe
This has that vibe, you know the vibe, the "you are in enemy territory and shouldn't mess out with it too much cuz if you do, you'll be in for a trouble" vibe, that vibe. But you can't help it being here for too long, because the song is way too good, arguably the best song in the game.
I was like "why does this sounds so different compared to all other places, and why is this amazing?", also, i have certain admiration for mechanical/future environments since i was a kid, a loooooong time ago, so that also makes me like this even more
I didn't mind a single bit exploring everything here and making sure I did every single quest and beat all of the unique bosses because of this theme
I can't wait for the xenoblade 3 equivalent of this song. World tree was fire
probably that giant mechonis looking sword you have to climb up to that's shown in the trailer.
There was none :(
@@yes6369 Late reply but I would argue Origin's ost is the equivalent. There is even a more sci-fi sounding version of the track that plays in Origin (called Origin Section A), it just only plays in one cutscene
@Laurin Zanon damn your right, this track is amazing, why the hell didn't i notice it
Honestly this is probs the best track in the game. So good.
So glad I was overlevelled enough that I could just listen to this on repeat during my first trip through mechonis field
One question scientists still can't answer:
Why is this song so good?
First thing when I got here. Listened to this theme while staring at the Bionis in the Sunset. It was beautiful. Mechonis Field is up there for my favorite locations in the game.
I hate Zanza for taking this away from me
This stage has no business hitting this hard, especially at 1:50 part. Them robots were groving
God I just finished this game but this song makes me want to replay it
Same
they really got the feeling of being on another world (mechonis)
just as great as the wii versions
When 0:57 kicked, I felt something unexplainable
That background guitar sets my soul on fire
I see what you mean.
Just past the mechonis field a few hours ago and this theme has to be my favorite so far. I missed out on this game for so long, but I'm finally going to finish it.😁
Favorite song in the whole game. The plucky synths are so distinctive and great
The key to let us enjoy frustrating areas and dungeons is by placing them with sick ass awesome music!
I really do think this track is a lot more genius than people give it credit for. (Spoilers, obviously)
What do you often picture when you imagine the end game?
Both have a mystical, mechanical wonder to them…
But XC1’s mechonis field feels more like you’re running into the center of a giant factory, while the World Tree feels more like you’re entering a giant futuristic city.
It’s wild, the contrast between the 2.
This is a lot like the music from Cliffs of Morytha, imo. I got the same spooky broken world vibes from it.
The differences are more subtle, but they really did improve on a masterpiece with their new version of Mechonis Field.
One of my favorite songs of all time, even outside of videogames
Absolutely
The rhythm is similar to Donkey Kong Country Returns - Switcheroo! I love it!
IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICED IT
I didn't know it was possible to improve on perfection, but they did... and I AM SO HAPPY FOR IT!
VGM aside, this one of the single greatest pieces of music to ever grace this planet.
I was grinding for zanza when I thought I'd go to mechonis field to hear the best area theme in the game to only find out u can't fast travel there after u beat egil and yes I have tried to go there manually on more than one occasion
What's stops you from going there manually
@@union_keyblade5087 I can't remember off the top of my head. All I remember is being at the end of fallen hand tryna climb up the leg and getting dead ends a lot
@@moldyblueberry9820 that's strange
@@union_keyblade5087 after the events of Mechonis Core, the bulkhead on the Fallen Arm that leads to Mechonis Field collapses and makes it inaccessible, although I'm not sure if it closes down after Agniritha events because the rest of the Central Factory opens back up if you're willing to walk it
Imagine walking on those pipes with controller drift. >~
That's why I play with the pro controller; so I don't have those problems

This is where I went "I really wanna climb the shit in the background, someone mod in collision I wanna go there"
This has a Retro/Synthwave vibe. I LOVE it.
This track transformed the whole feeling of the game for me.
This song is incredible
reminds me of the puzzle rooms from Virtue's Last Reward
Phenomenal.
I'm sorry, what was it people hated about this area? I'm playing the game for the first time and I didn't have any outstanding issues with it.
Some say it drags out for a bit longer than it should. I disagree, I think it’s just the right size, and is actually one of my favorite areas in the game (might be due to this amazing theme).
@@hypno3057 Definitely. I knew this incredible track was coming as I got to this part of the game since I've beaten the original release, and honestly welcomed every single excuse to keep playing in mechonis field. I won't say the other mechonis tracks are bad but goddamn how much I'd pay for making this the only field song in all of mechonis.
Didn’t know ppl hated it! It’s by far my favorite area of the game with some of the best music besides Central Factory!
This song makes me feel sleepy
I am SO glad that I waited to discover some of the soundtrack. Before I reached mechonis field today I would have slept on this banger
Ive been playing on handheld for the longest time and I just thought Id plug it for once and I was so struck by how much detail there is in the music. I was walking around Makna Forest and for the first time I noticed there are birds singing in the trees. I need to start using headphones or something.
One of the most annoying areas in the game but has the best song out of all the areas in the game. Holy fuck I wanted to get out and stay at the same time cuz this music was just so fucking good, hearing this for the first time really is an experience.
Climbing the Mechonis is like the World Tree in the second game.

It reminds me of the song in ff7 remake when you are helping aerith through the collapsed bridge area with the mechanical arm
I think I can hear it.
I definitely have my critiques about the remastered tracks, but this one is really good. They didn’t even have to remaster this one, but they went and did anyway.
Mechonis Field is definitely one of my most favorite areas/area themes in Xenoblade Chronicles. I just love the instruments used in this track. I really enjoy both the original and this version equally.
This song and agniratha are the only tracks in the game that make me nostalgic for some reason. Not You Will Know Our Names or Tragic Decision or even Obstacle in our Path. What an iconic song
I'm really surprised this one was remade. with it being all synth, there's no need right?
well, I'm not complaining!
This reminds me so much of Phantasy Star Online and that's awesome
I didn't play the original, but I listened to some songs and I really liked this one, but...
This is way better than I remember!
