great video! wow - the MagicStomp has the real Mojo on the swell sounds - Helix sounds amazing too - so well done!! Yamaha is doing well for an older device - great playing too - thank you!
Great playing! As a fan i have beening searching for a magicstomp and finally scored one (mk2). Only then i relized it doesn't come with the patches made by Allan. Where can i download or buy those patches? Happy new year in 2023!
Just bought an hx stomp would love to buy the presets you've demonstrated on the helix, still have my magicstomp In my opinion the MS wins, but the helix is oh so close.....thanks Joe
There’s an edge to the Helix that isn’t good but it’s good cause you’ll never not hear the way you hear,. Take away the tendency in the patch to distort and it’ll be even better IMO.
Great stuff - There’s a Facebook group dedicated to the Magicstomp that has a new editor for PC - also loads of Artist patches etc. YAMAHA MAGICSTOMP COLLECTIVE
I have a Magic Stomp I bought used a few years ago. I could never get the hang of it. How do I get these Holdsworth tones out of it? Don't say it's all in the hands - we know that's a lot to do with it. I do NOT have the CD that is supposed to come with the pedal. TIA
Hi Greg, indeed I don't have that much delay in my hands ! :) It's a set of presets that Allan made himself for the MS. I got them somewhere on the internet, but I can't remember where. I installed them some years ago, but it's true that now it's a bit tricky to update the MS. There's a Facebook group of MS users which could provide you with some infos, and check John Vullo's channel, he has a video on updating the MS.
For the lead tone, i'd say to dial a distortion tone that focus on the mids. I generally set the bass and treble very low, and use an eq as well to cut the high frequencies above 5 or 6 khz. That's drastic, but I like it. Play with your tone pot on the guitar as well. The idea is to get a very smooth midrange tone. And finally, stack multiple delays. At least two delay sets with a short time and no feedback. Then at least two other with a longer time and more feedback. Hope that helps ! ;)
Ah hell, I was trying to avoid it but I think a Magicstomp is on the shopping list. Hope the firmware isn't as much of a struggle as I have been lead to believe.
@@oozelumbird That would mean returning to facebook, but thank you for the information 👍I suppose I could just jump on for a brief period and then depart gracefully with some new knowledge and tools ^
Magicstomp hands down. Hard to mimic the clarity of 8 delays in parallel. Anything else is a shortcut thats inferior, subjectively speaking. Some one must resurrect the genius of the UD Stomp design! I would buy a Helix if it included what the Magicstomp Mk. II or UD Stomp achieve. Even purchasing multiple delay units that have modulation parameters, and a line mixer sound better than anything available.....at the moment.
Sweels are better on MS... I preferred Helix chorus, MS seems to present a certain signal degradation on the modulated (and delayed) signal...not sure... just had this impression. But MS is warmer in all of the samples in this video, Helix sounds a little bit 'skinner' and "brittle" (so to speak) MagicStomp presents a louder (so more noticeable) noise/signal relation. Maybe not nice for those obsessed with noise suprression...For the ones that you only play in live situations with a whole band behind, plus audience noises and etc, might be a ignorable issue...

Yes that's normal, that's how you get the trail. You have to use a volume pedal ou use the volume knob of your guitar to get rid of the attack of the notes. It is not an auto-swell. Hope this helps ;)
You can purchase the Helix presets here : modernguitar.gumroad.com/l/helixfusionFX
Salut, je voudrais bien acheter, mais le Papyal /Payment en generale ne marche pas malheureusement.
Close, but the magic stomp sounds better to me

Thanks ! Yes the Yamaha still sounds very good. Now that Yamaha bought Line 6 they would be very inspired to do some MagicStomp Legacy effects :)

I just purchased a Magicstomp.
I am excited to have sounds like these.

@@ModernGuitar How about share them? 🙂
Perfect video for me. I tried matching the settings from the UD Stomp but never was able to dial it all in. This is great.
Thanks !
I cry, I wish Allan back.
Me too !
i eager to buying these presets, but I'm using hx stomp... did you have presets for hx stomps also? :)
I have the MS. This is very good. Its hard to do, but good work.
Thanks !
Espectacular sonidos !!donde puedo bajarlos en mi yamaha?saludos!!
Great Tones.... how can i get the Helix tones..??these are beautiful
Thanks! For now it’s not available but I thinking about it 😉
Really beautiful. Do you know if any of the Helix amp mods are similar to the MagicStomp amp sims which AH used?
Good question ! I had some good results with some Bogner and Revv models. For me the key is the eq section, I cut a lot of high frequencies

Hi thats fantastic, im lefty aswell, been looking for multi effects for a while, do you have any recommendations to get his lead tone.

As far as I know the helix can’t do 8 independent modulated delay bands?
That’s right ! But it has a dual delay block with modulation. So I put 4 of them !
@@ModernGuitarthat’s good to know! This makes me interested in getting an FM3 - do you think that can do these sounds?
do we have similar patches for hx stomp for purchase?
Not for the moment. I don't have HX stomp to test them.
Have you published your presets for these? Would love to try them.
Hello ! No not yet.
We need the helix presets! Sounds so close....
Tanks ! I'm working on it 😉

Yes, I hope that someday Line6 would include those UD stomp delays, but very unlikely to happen...
Yes That’s what I did. You'll have more control over the feedback of each delays with the dual blocks.
magicstomp is legendary
hi! how do you this configuration in Helix pedal?
I stacked several dual delay blocks

WHat are your amp settings. All neutral at 12 o clock?
I honestly don't remember. I would that any clean tone would do, it's more about the FX.
Magic stomp sounds best. Well after all that's what he used
Yes, but the Helix does a great job too :)

Just got a magicstomp and downloaded the holdsworth patches, but the volume swells have a delay on them that mess with the swell, any tips?

Close, but to my ears helix sounds more processed
ITS ITS BETTER FOR STRING SOUND LESS DIGITAL BS SOUND SOOOOOO I LOOK IT UP BAHHHHHHH 2500 GRAND BAHHHHHH
Line 6 has more clarity.
Some of the same engineers, but both have advantages to each other.
