Important tip if you are looking to buy a magic stomp: Look for the headphone jack. mkI doesnt have it, only Mkii. In mkii you can edit all params on the pedal. There is a manual addendum you can find online which describes how. mki could only access all params with the software. Since the software doesnt run on modern computers thats a big problem, making mki more of a preset player, than an editable multifx pedal.
It is possible to upgrade the MKI with the latest software for deep-editing. You will only miss the headphone connector. It seems that WIN10 works fine with the old software for the MS. You can find the firmware files on the 'Yamaha Magicstomp collective' group on Facebook.
I am currently running the Magicstomp editor on Windows 10. It works perfectly and the USB midi is recognized to sending and receiving up9 files. I just install and run in admin mode. i can also load any of the standard patches from the three model bass, acoustic, and default guitar patches. Also have the full editor for each patch, and create new patches. Copy, mix and match items within patches. Everything.
Nice job! Much cleaner sounds than most ppl's MS videos. You missed an opportunity to showcase one of the best sounds and how it should be used: the first one - U-VolSwell. It should be played with a volume pedal (or vol control) to swell in the sound (as the name implies). Those syncopated repeats are not meant to be heard discretely, but when swelled in create a beautiful symphonic sound that no other pedal does. The great Alan Holdsworth makes great use of it. If I end up with a multi-processor, it's going to have to have an effects loop so I can continue to use that sound.
Could quite possibly be the best multi-effects pedal ever created. This isn’t just a box I use every time I play, it’s become part of MY sound . . . Just like a good woman, you will only experience this once maybe twice in your lifetime 👍🏻
This little stompbox sounds amazing... Especially at 5:50... Thank you for the demo! I'm just worried that it may be too thin/metallic sounding. I once tried the UD Stomp and although beautiful with its multiple delays, it sounded too artificial. I currently have the FX500, which has a fatter, very 80's sound, yet still a tad thin compared to i.e. a Boss SE-70. I guess Yamaha has its own sound flavour.
It can get updated to software v2 and in that version you can control every paramter with just the pedal. You need to do a bit of holding different things down at the same time, but once you get the hang of it, its not that big of a problem :) .. So i still have one and even thought my computer cant run it anymore i am not missing out on anything it can do :)
Pray Yamaha or other will resurrect this design in a modern product 8 parallel Modulated delays in stereo split is genius The best delay chorus reverb on the globe
Man, I had one of these in high school and totally forgot about it! I probably got rid of it around the time I got a pod xt live! Didn't know how to use either of them worth a shit, i'm sure. Sounds really nice here!
Have not had this very long , almost a year..the first one I bought ,,I was hit with the package thief off My porch..The sender a Music Store in Nashville has it insured thank god...He got his money back after a few weeks,,,but I sent the video on to the police..Never did get My stomp back ,,so I had to locate another one..the one have is like New...not a scratch..all the paper work and instructions..I love this thing...I used to think Line 6 effects were good...this thing will allow Your Line 6 effect amps to do 200 times more...Love the West Coast Sound. and set Fat Fuzz mixed on a Line 6..with Grunge...You can't beat it...
Padraic Plaugher i`ve just wanted to ask you to post the soft for it untill I read this(( I had it before, but then installed a fresh OS and now can`t find it
Having problems finding a Usb midi 32 bit driver to connect to my magic stomp. With the model being old can you guggest a link which still have compatable drivers as this is a priority Thankyou
Hello! Can somebody help me? How you guys connect it to your PC? I've tried it, did all that was asked in the menus but when I try to send or receive any patches from one device to the other the operation doesn't work. Nothing happens. Thank you in advance!
I Guess the right way to connect is: Turn Off Magic Stomp, plug the USB cable then turn on the MS (connecting the power supply cable). If you need the driver and magicstomp editor software visit the MS Group on Facebook. (The follow link is to the Softwares pack, it worked for me on Windows 10) facebook.com/groups/311501855552823/permalink/1546601868709476/
Hey man, I love some of the sounds you just did. Are these on an acoustic guitar. If I get one could you help me figure out how you have programmed your stuff or is most of that out of the box sounds?
just disable the Microsoft Driver lockout like in W8, then you should be able to install the drivers. USB is USB is USB for a reason, all you need are the drivers
hi again, is the wedge good for shoegaze stuff, like Kevin Shields (My Bloody Valentine) reverse reverb and modulated sounds, or Ride-like delays and phased tremolos and the like?

This thing is classic. Highest quality effects in a stompbox, IMO. Just ordered one, used- prob gonna sell off my TC stompboxes.

Have you tried this pedal in a pedal chain? I wanna know if works well with an analog distortion before the yamaha magicstomp
also, stop making videos showing how great this pedal is. I'm trying to keep the eBay price down and I only have 3 of them! ..lol
Lol
I building a board with four of them myself and have been buying extra units as backups.
What the white pedal near the yamaha (from left side)?
are those factory presets?

Barry Brecheisen these were all straight out of the box and on an electric guitar.
