Very misleading headline grabber. The engine did not break down in a cloud of steam! A 'hot-box' is an overheating wheel bearing. All the steam that was shown was the driver 'blowing-through' the steam lines, to clear out any condensation (water) that would cause damage to the pistons. This is standard practice if any steam loco has been standing for a while.
+Stepanie Douglas It is unlikely to be scrapped on this occasion but any engine can chopped apart with gas torches and the pieces sent for melting down.
I honestly don't think they are going to scrap Flying ScotsMan, I think they would want you to be scrapped for wanting a piece of famous history to be scrapped.
Hundreds of onlookers? 90% of them must be those "invisible" onlookers/
I'm suppose to see Scotsman on Saturday visiting family. Hope she is OK and mended then. still a strong engine after 90 odd years of age.

Probably a Thomas The Tank Engine reference
Looks best in its BR colors
I hope Flying Scotsman will be repaired soon. That train cannot be scrapped. In fact... I’m going to donate a lot of money to them to get it fixed.
Flying scotsman wont be scrapped due to a hotbox, hotboxes are quick fixes that happen on rolling stock and engines all the time!
Why did it break down?
It broke a valve
@@childish_humour762 The information on the screen said it ran a hotbox
It ran a hotbox
We were going so nicely too, and look there's Henry laughing at me
Even the most famous and powerful engines break down, did you say it ran a hotbox?
Lovely ex lner loco
I WAS ON IT XD
Not gorgor!
Cut this loco for scrap with gas torches. Melt down the pieces and replace it with a diesel.

YOU CAN'T SCRAP THE FLYING SCOTSMAN BECAUSE IT IS THE MOST FAMOUS ENGINE IN THE WORLD.
