Your use of your interview is 🔥. You're letting it be known that the interviewer absolutely cannot deny ever hearing exactly what you stated in all it's uncomfortable for Russian state owned media aspects.
How crazy is it that the most consequential thing here may be that Eteri reportedly said she didn't like Putin? How much social capital does she have that a Russian coach can throw that one out?
It means the path is paved for representing the US if Russia releases them and the US wants to know where they will fit in with their teams. The skeptical part of me also wants to say, and figure out how to judge/place them?
I wonder if Gleb and Diana will become a better skating team in the states without the power and notoriety of their respective families influencing their scores? Most skating fans actively dislike Gleb and Diana because of their inflated scores, do you think they will be more accurately judged representing the us?
Don’t overestimate the influence of HIS family. Yes, his dad is an actor, but he is mostly known for the role of a butler in a sitcom that was popular... Like 15 years ago :) He is a nice actor, I guess, but he said he had no idea that his son had gotten married :)
Plus I can't help laughing at the possibility of russian press turning on eteri, she used the same Russian nationalism to hurt evgenia years ago and now she might face the same against herself, the poetry.
Sorry I have to disagree about a few comments you made(not that I'm saying they are from your mouth directly)...the talk about Katilyn and Jean Luc being mis-matched is ludicrous, they are a joy to watch because they seriously enjoy being together. Their Olympic performances were magical and I wasn't the only one to think that. And seeing them live at SOI and performing with their best friends was really special. I have no faith at all of Davis/Smolkim getting anywhere in the US
This is just an FYI - "anchor baby" is an offensive term is the Latino/a/x community. You've said it a few times in earlier videos. The term has been offensive for decades. I am not saying this to be unkind or rude, but as a Latino, I jump every time I hear you say the word. Like I said, just a friendly FYI.
I don't feel it's Dave's intention to offend. However, most people know the meaning of term anchor baby and it describes a citizenship issue unique to the USA. We are the ONLY country that confers citizenship on someone simply for fact of being born on our soil.
My colleagues and I use it all the time but never in reference to Latinos. Then again I've never come across any Latinos in graduate school or the professional workforce, which is where I've been around the anchor parents who usually don't need an anchor anyway. Illegal immigration at the southern border is a whole different topic for another day.
Like I said, my comment was just a friendly FYI. I do not think the comment was intended maliciously or to offend. If you look up the historical use of the term “anchor baby,” you will see why it is extremely problematic. If you think only Latinos will be offended, you live in a different world than myself. Kristen, you don’t know who is around you at any point in time. Latinos come in all shades. I also did not mention immigration on the southern border. DACA kids live all over the US. My family are native Californians (until the US seized CA) and I am offended by the term. You do not have to be a first or second generation Latino to find it offensive. And as stated, you don’t have to be Latino at all to be offended.
@@bordeauxhouse Well we have a unique history with slavery, revolution, and shifting borders so that's the reason why citizenship is conferred by being born here.
Wow, Dave and TSL this is fascinating and I have to thank you. I have several thoughts/comments/questions: 1. Whatever you think about Eteri, she is trying to do what she thinks is best by her daughter (not sure how *good* it is but hey) 2. She's sticking her neck out with Putin (much more than, say Moskvina/Mishin and others): seemingly trying to get her daughter to represent the USA, not turning up at Putin's propaganda events, not posting pro Russia things about the Russia/Ukraine situation, (even Anna Shcherbakova not attending the events). 3. How is she travelling? Aren't there flight bans? Does she have a visa/green card/dual nationality? Where *is* her money for flights/accommodation/sustenance etc. How is she converting Rubles/dollars? Does she have a US bank account/credit card? 4. Will she eventually be _persona non grata_ in Russia for *not* seemingly being 100% behind Putin's actions? Given state money may be now very limited - will Sambo 70's funding be the first to be cut as a result? Will Plushenko's Angels be the beneficiaries of this? 5. Given all the above what is her future in Russia realistically. Is she on her way out there? Would Sambo 70 start thinking of her as a liability and dispensable? Will/can Sambo 70 dump her? Will/can Sergei, Danil and Dr Shevsky think they can run Sambo 70 without her?
Oh, I can answer as a Russian! :) It's not a problem to get a family visa. Flights from Russia are banned to Europe and North America but you can fly to Turkey or Mexico as a transit point and buy tickets to banned countries there. As for money, get a foreign card => convert roubles into foreign bank's local currency => transfer it to your foreign card => convert it into dollars ( sounds not that hard, but comission and timing are insane) l. Plus, it's harder and harder to find a bank which is not scared to provide a foreign card not because of the rus passport but because of the amount of young people left the country after all this situation started
@@katerinabrave2980 thank you for this - I thought some of that may be the situation. And complex and not easy. I see Gleb's role in all this is vulnerable and scary. They can can change him as soon as some other american comes along and replaces him. Eteri's move is so risky they might eventually get trained by no one else than...Eteri herself since not so many coaches would like to train them.

To me the fact that so many people apparantly have no problem worki g with eteri and her daughter even after all the years of eteri's camp abusing children just shows that this sport is rotten to the core
Yeah but now people will admire her balls. Putin gave a chilling speech about squashing traitors like flies and still she goes ahead. And those claims can be chalked up to rumors, or not that bad.
@@colleenduffy1139 yeah I can definitely see people forget everything just bc she has 'spoken out' (not really it's a he said she said situation as far as I know for now) against putin and tbh that's actually ridiculous, ofcourse we can't know what she really thinks of the war, but she's been profiting of Russia's system for years now, if she really is speaking out against putin I assume it's just so she can get her daughter to represent the US, it is all extremely hollow, but people online are really quick about pretending to care about one issue and immediately forgetting so they can switch to the next, so we'll see
Can't wait for a statement tho where someone claims valieva's positive doping test was a rumour lmao

Bravo Dave for your insightful reporting! Christine Brennan has nothing on you.
Why is it some coaches won't accept Venmo, is it to avoid having a paper trail? Also do you know if certain states are "safer" for Eteri, i.e. more lax rules regarding Safesport or something so she could get away with being harsher or something? Personally I don't think it'd matter. If she defects to the US, I don't think we'll ever see her at a competition again. She'll likely just collect her money until she can retire from the limelight altogether. Just my .02 though. And when the Russian ladies program inevitably goes down w/o her, perhaps she'll be welcomed back. Thanks!
Paper trail and taxes
I wonder who she'll send flowers to if/when she leaves...
I’m so sick of rules meaning nothing depending on who you are! Great update but I will admit I do miss the accent!
Your use of your interview is 🔥. You're letting it be known that the interviewer absolutely cannot deny ever hearing exactly what you stated in all it's uncomfortable for Russian state owned media aspects.
Thanks Dave. Interesting as always.
🙏
How crazy is it that the most consequential thing here may be that Eteri reportedly said she didn't like Putin? How much social capital does she have that a Russian coach can throw that one out?
She said that in private conversation. Most Russians probably don't like Putin. Personally, I feel Dave should've just left it out.
What do her actions say on Instagram?
What the flip? I have no words for this.
So I have a question, what does it mean by 'being monitored', like is it literally? Or is it an allusion to some specific process car in fs?
I have the same question.
@@margaritadanova4764 maybe he was acting. Lol.
Plus I can't help laughing at the possibility of russian press turning on eteri, she used the same Russian nationalism to hurt evgenia years ago and now she might face the same against herself, the poetry.
💯
Eteri has already accomplished everything she wanted to professionally. It’s clear she’s trying to make up for lost time as Mom.
I have no faith at all of Davis/Smolkim getting anywhere in the US
Being mismatched is a totally different topic from being “a joy to watch!” Unfortunately, they are not a good physical match.
My apologies. I am not sure if I saw the comments before.
I am surprised that Eteri is so bold as to say she dislikes Putin. I can imagine this does not bode well for either her or her skaters in Russia.
What do her actions say since the invasion?
OMG, Dave called it!!!
I have a question regarding one tweet you posted. So is Diana Davis Diana Buianova? Where did Davis come from??
her father presumably, eteri has raised her in russia, but she has her dad’s last name.
If I understand correctly, there is implication of a subsequent, adulterous relationship and adoption. Allegedly!

Wow, Dave and TSL this is fascinating and I have to thank you. I have several thoughts/comments/questions:
1. Whatever you think about Eteri, she is trying to do what she thinks is best by her daughter (not sure how *good* it is but hey)
@Марина Россия3 who is lying!!??
@@katerinabrave2980 thank you for this - I thought some of that may be the situation. And complex and not easy. Again, whatever I think of Eteri’s teaching methods (and from what I see they are very ‘questionable’)I think she is being very brave travelling to USA while not seemingly fully endorsing Putin’s actions.
@@ddjr6673 you're right! Rus media step by step start attacking her. Imho, this is what all normal people do - prioritizing their family over anything else. I thought Eteri Tutberidze was a very controversial coach - would she be welcomed to coach American skaters or in America?
She's definitely controversial. But none can deny how she can raised her girls to the top. Either she's that good at coaching girls or how good she is at politicking, she gave results after results (of course this at the cost of short-lived girls, but again Russia is full of talents waiting every generation so according to them being short-lived is not that bad).
Will she be welcomed? We still don't know how she'll insert herself to the US skating world, so it depends. I'd say most are probably pessimistic at first, but if she can raise a medal contender who knows 🤷🏻♀️
