I love Melissa Leo's reaction To Kirk Douglas. I too would have been speechless if one of the biggest names in Hollywood history had just presented me with an Academy Award. Rest in peace Kirk Douglas. By far one of the most well known, love, respected, and most iconic Actors in Hollywood history.
One thing that struck me is how Melissa Leo looked genuinely shocked when Mr. Douglas announced her name. Although she did campaign for an Oscar, I really believe she wasn't expecting one, and that is why she was so nervous. Besides the obvious F-Bomb, I think she thanked all the right people personally and professionally.
Hailee Steinfeld was the lead of True Grit. That's like giving Tom Hanks an oscar for best supporting actor ... for Forrest Gump. And RIP Kirk Douglass :(
I remember watching this live and thinking this whole thing was ridiculous, from Kirk Douglas taking too long to Melissa's speech where her f-bomb seemed pre-planned. You can tell Helena Carter was aggravated during the whole thing. But re-watching this, Kirk Douglas was the funniest thing that happened during these Oscars. Him disregarding the envelope and then the 'ya know' always gets me. But this was also the year James Franco and Anne Hathaway hosted the show so it wasn't hard to steal the show
@@kevzsabz8253 yeah, i don’t fan over hailee, but damn she’s a great actress, true grit was something else… her performance for the edge of seventeen was so good, the movie was so well written, such an underrated movie
So happy she won the Oscar. Melissa Leo's performance in "The Fighter" was outstanding - her transformation into Alice was remarkable and beautifully done.
Melissa Leo and Amy Adams put in some great supporting work in "The Fighter". I hope to see Amy win one real soon, because she has played some solid performances over the years.
Happy 100th birthday, Kirk Douglas! I love your movies and you. Honestly this appearance was such a treat, cracks me up every time! The fact that even a stroke can't slow you down is really inspiring a testament to your resilient character. Much love to you and your family, enjoy your day and every day!
Everyone in this category DESERVED the Oscar that year! Amazing year for supporting actresses. So many who weren't recognized by the Academy (Lesley Manville, Mila Kunis, Barbara Hershey, Rooney Mara, Marion Cotillard, Dianne Wiest, Patricia Clarkson)
@Reginald Wilson I personally thought Hailee Steinfeld deserved it for True Grit but I also understand that the Academy is very particular when it comes to awarding child actors. There's an elitist mentality that leans into the idea that they have to pay their due's before they win.
Kirk's presentation and delay is the comic highlight of the show. Everytime he says you know, I am always in hysterics. Maybe he should have hosted the show.
Why so much hate on Kirk Douglas? He was the 1st Spartacus and one of the greatest actors in Hollywood History and he's just being a sweet and charming old man. Why do people think he's being creepy, he just seems like the generic grandfather type, personally I'd love to meet him, he seems down to earth, funny, and he probably has some great stories to tell about seeing the industry change over the years.
Kirk Douglas was a kick in the pants. This has to be the longest time between announcing the nominees and the winner. I don't know if he knew what he was doing, but he sure lightened the mood.
Melissa Leo is a beautiful woman, a woman whose soul illuminates her eyes, both strong and heart-wrenchingly sensitive. Her performance in Three Burials is unforgettable.
"when i watched Kate 2 years ago it looked so fucking easy" Ms Leo you must know that Kate was 6 times Nominee , 5 times she lost and finally won for the reader in 2009, its never easy neither for her nor for you. any how loved both of your chemistry in "Mildred Pierce"
Not only was Kirk Douglas presenting the award, but the man next to him is Omar Shariff's son. One big golden Hollywood star (RIP) and the son of another renowned great sharing the stage with Melissa Leo who had only been to the Oscars once before and has been one of the busiest actresses of the last decade. What a lucky night she had.
+Gabby Greene Ok, but anyone can swear. It doesn't make them the same kind of people. Jennifer Lawrence and Melissa Leo have totally different personalities. It really has nothing to do with age or looks considering people love JLaw for her personality more than anything.
Bryce, 1. There is no need to bring Taylor swift in this, just because they are friend and 2. Taylor doesn't play in movies like Hailee, she sings mostly. So two different categories
Robert Harris Hailee Steinfeld wouldn't have turned into that type of actress if she got cast as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games. She was really close to getting the part!!

Hailee Steinfeld, one of the most notorious cases of category confusion. She's clearly leading.
Same as Tatum O’Neal in Paper moon... shes clearly a lead...
Same with Alicia Vikander in The Danish Girl, Viola Davis in Fences and Timothy Hutton in Ordinary People.
Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Winslet and Halle Berry were also supporting characters but won for best lead role
What about Al Pacino in The Godfather?

Mila Kunis should’ve been nominated here for her performance in Black Swan
Yesss.
Period! She should have replaced with Hailee Steinfeld who should have been in Lead Actress.
@@HorrorMovies13 exactly, idk why they put Hailee in supporting instead of leading
