  • Do you find your Snares occupying too much dynamics and muddying up the transient of your kick? Let's talk about that!
    I'm going to share a trick with you guys for how I control the peak/transient of my snare so that it doesn't overlap too heavily with the kick in the mix. It can also be applied in theory to any sound needing some transient control!

    Let me just say that this is really advanced things and many other producers would call this ''secrets'' you're the man for sharing this info with the public. I use SPL transient designer to make the transient fiit with my kicks :)

      Ah that's a great plugin also, I prefer the more fine controls from Gate plugins, but SPL is great for a "quick-fix". Thanks for the kind words

      Agreed. Dash, you're teaching me so many new things. So happy to find someone who uses cubase and isn't holding back on what content you put out. Top man.

    Great Tipp! I Knew i missed something, i always thought about how producers make their snares that punchy without the transients. Thx Alot

    Thanks for elaborating the transient concept, I'm now way more capable of interpreting Bitwig's build in Transient Control. Thanks man

    Another way of making snares fit with kicks is to phase align the transients of kick and snare by either moving them a few ms left or right or pitching them up or down, fl studio's ''pogo'' effect is great for phase aligning :) you will need a spectral viewer plug in though, but im sure every DAW would have something like this. In fl you can use edision to view the wave shapes then make them fit. It can be a strenuous procedure but WELL WORTH IT IN THE END. I also phase align the tail end of my kick with the 1st note of my bass if im making a rolling bassline, I like my kick to be about 1/8 length so it goes over the 1st note of the rolling bassline :)

    What i do: Usually my kick transient is a couple of milliseconds ahead of the start of the beat, where everything else starts. My snares also go through my side-chain bus.

    who says that the snare has to be played same time as Kick .. there is a way to make the snare kick in shortly before or after the kick :P

  • @OdinComposer
    @OdinComposer 6 лет назад +1

    Hey Dash, do you watch Mr. Bill? He would just manually fade out the transient on the audio event. I don't really see what advantage using the gate has before that...

    • @DashGlitch
      @DashGlitch  6 лет назад

      the "other" method I speak of in the video is pretty much like that, but I prefer the sound of using a gate, like I mentioned in another comment it's based more on the transient of the sound and less on the time-base of the sound as you're working with a threshold-based application rather than an envelope. I guess it's personal preference, I didn't realize Mr. Bill did it that way, the "gate" technique is something taught to me many years ago by a few different producers so I guess it just stuck, maybe I'll leave the "other" technique if it's already widely known

    • @OdinComposer
      @OdinComposer 6 лет назад +1

      Nah I don't know how many in the psytrance community follow Mr. Bill. You should probably stick with your plan :)
      Still though he has a lot of good stuff that can be applied in psytrace, like this: watch?v=eiSRBH3-Ads&index=45
      And I got a lot better in cubase after figuring out how to do some of the things he does in ableton :)

    • @DashGlitch
      @DashGlitch  6 лет назад +1

      Yup, true, but I will formulate it a bit differently from mr. bills technique

  • @yass8483
    @yass8483 6 лет назад +1

    Wouldn't it be much faster to load the snare sample in a sampler and just deal in a little attack time?

    • @DashGlitch
      @DashGlitch  6 лет назад +2

      I never get the same results with envelopes this way, either there is too much curve or delay, and it never sounds realistic in the mix, you can always hear the fade applied once un-soloing the track. I feel the gate is working on a dynamics parameter rather than time, so the audible effect is subtle but different. Just my 2c

    • @yass8483
      @yass8483 6 лет назад +1

      I get it, I guess i'll give a try to both methods :)
