- This 5.5” x 14” snare is comprised of a traditional vintage shell construction of maple/poplar/maple with top and bottom reinforcement hoops. Vintage drum enthusiasts will appreciate the time-tested shell specification along with 8-lug design for open and vintage warm sounds that blend well in acoustic environments. Contemporary drummers will value its modern craftsmanship.

Well done. I appreciate the sound of not only the snare drum but the entire kit and your playing is quite smooth and enjoyable to listen to. Best wishes to all you drummers out there.
This could be an awesome SLP kit, in bop sizes :)
Well they went with hickory for that. + I find that the hickory snare sounds similar to this one.
This sounds top notch. It’s plenty good enough for any A list artist album and can easily be on a Grammy Awarded recording. I might get this eventually
Well done Tama, I have been waiting for this This is my next snare for sure. I would be happier if it was a bit deeper (6" or 6.5"), but never mind. Also, Joe did great job with demonstration with with big BUT! Why there is no multituning demonstration? :( It would make this videos even more better and thi is just small effort for Joe (if he did that for Studio maple model and Big Black Steel, he could do it for all other SLP models).
Definitely going to be my next snare
Tommy's Groove Essentials!! :D :D
Great Hi hat!!!
I need a classic styled maple snare. Love the distinct crack that maple snares have. Its just something special and pops out of the music. Granted I dont think there is one SLP snare that I wouldn’t play. Everything Tama does is such quality and attention to detail and value is incredible. You would have to pay me thousands every month to play another brand lol
FanaticalDrummer you seem to look for similar charactoristics in snares. Tama makes great stuff. Check out also oirk pie (bob)and cherry babinga. Aloha
Sorry, pork pie. There i got it right
I just purchased an slp vintage and i can tune it all over the place. It goes really low (greasy) ,nice mids and sounds good at higher tunings. I like the fact that it has overtones, those can be dealt with. The thing i may do is put a g2 head on it and work with snares or change to calm it down a bit. Could just be the room. I attempt to buy work horses and this drum may do the trick. More testing to come!
Testing part 2: So i put on a g2 head, changed the snares(some old pork pies i had lying around) and tuned it up to med pitch and it sounds great. If you get each lug to same pitch,(top side) it eliminates the odd over tones . The drum sounds like a deeper drum, it sounds huge! Drum is well made and like all snares i buy ,just needs a little tinkering(and me getting to know the drum). Rhe only thing i found difficult to work with were the snares themselves. Very bright and hard to find those sweet spots where they dont buzz too much. Good drum.
How different is that snare compared to the SLP Classic Dry Aluminum? The TAMA demos have very different music style played on them, so it's hard to tell. In others videos, I can't really see a big difference between the 2 snares. If anyone has both, or played both. What's your opinion?
👍🥁👋
This or Classic Maple .
hmm... Canadian or north american maple?
Canada is part of North America, dumbass.
well you do know right tama is one of the few that likes to advertise on "Canadian maple" where else others "North American maple"? So hence the question, obviously its about construction of the snare drum, bearing edges, number of plys. etc. Still a great sounding snare.
+Slevin Gaius there's no difference between "Canadian maple" and "North American maple" other than the name.
Slevin Gaius doesnt Canadian maple speak French?
That depends on how you hold your sticks!
When the drumkit sounds better than snare...
Now I know why there is no low tuning in video. This snare doesn't have any. I have 3 SLP snares and this is worst. No wood charachteristic, no warmth, no fattnes, only aggresive snare wires. And yes, this snare (at least my model) barely has any snare bed. Tama, I am disappointed.
viktor7m the snare has great low tuning. I can get it to sound huge
Everytime I tried a evans 300 I have the exact same reaction. Go with an ambassador hazy! Won't be aggressive anymore.
Too much overtones for me
Powerstroke3 or moongels and that's it :D
