Used hashtag face reveal, ignored her request and work she put in to edit her face, never commented on it until years later. He absolutely wanted to show her face to increase his views and his excuse is he wanted to help her get over her insecurities like he could fix her with that lol.

@Jay Blue Even if he is, that was not the way to do it. He might not have known much about mental health at the time, but I don’t know anyone who would be okay doing this except people who don’t understand boundaries.
I do hope that Alex has learned his lesson and got better. He has made videos about his own mental struggles, without ever mentioning feeling bad for what he had done to Jaiden.

It wasn’t consent in my honest opinion. She said no, and explained why, you then put her in an semi-awkward situation to say, “it will help you overcome. The decision is up to you.” Especially considering the fact she has anxiety, I’m gonna assume she just didn’t wanna be a bother at that point idk… It felt like peer pressure in a way. This doesn't make sense. You're basically saying she said yes but at the same time that same yes meant no. Part of an interaction and conversation is open communication. If Alex Clark made a suggestion and Jaiden said yes but was uncomfortable with it, then it is her sole fault. She's facing the repercussions of her decision. She may have said yes and at the time been unsure of it, or maybe she regretted it later. In any case, she should have been open about it and communicated more effectively.

Why would she go out of her way to blur it out if she was comfortable with it in the first place. She did communicate with him and told him how she was struggling, hence the "I need to share something personal with you." While it might have been well intentioned it was definitely the wrong thing to do.

She told you she was uncomfortable, edited the video, and you still posted it.
She was also your friend, and I can’t imagine ever drawing my friend who I knew struggled with an ED crying while eating pizza. Even if it was a misjudgement and you forgot, how?? I just can’t understand how you could forget something that significant.
An apology explaining your side is one thing, and admitting your wrongdoings and apologizing is commendable, but to add a section near the end of the video ‘struggling’ to read through hate comments takes away from it.
This wasn’t a video for you to talk about all the bad things that’ve happened to you because of the situation or to talk about how some people should know better then to send death threats which of course no one deserves.
It was to apologize, which you did but then you went on to point out all the reasons that you ‘weren’t really in the wrong’
And adding ‘jaiden face reveal’ in tags was an accident? Someone who didnt show their face at all on the channel, and who said was uncomfortable with that.
Anyone who posts or watches videos on RUclips would know that would gain more views/clicks.
IMO it just seems manipulative and for sympathy. This happened in 2016 and now since everyone is talking about it, and there was no public apology before it doesn’t seem as genuine.
Also, to say she gave you ‘full consent’ when you know full well looking back on it she didn’t and felt pressured is not it. At the time you may have thought it was full consent, but you should know better now.
This video just missed it for me…

I know this is in the past, but i just want to say, misunderstanding or not. Being told yes or not. I think the important thing here is how he got to that yes. Jaidens personal struggles especially in self esteem and self advocating may me more known today then they were back then. But the fact she both edited the video for you so her face was censored, and then told you about her ED when you asked why she didnt wany her face shown was TWO layers of her asking you to not do this. But you then asked a third time and gave an explanation that would pressure her into agreeing because you basically told her "maybe this will be good for you". Saying no twice can be hard for some people, do basically the more you ask the harder it is to say no.
Imo while i doubt you were malicious, i will say, if someone asks you not to show their face publically... To the entire internet, even if their face is known, just go with it. While i don't think someones reasoning is your business, if you then ask for a reason and they give you one, truly stop asking after that because anything morenjust feels like pressure. And not everyone has the spine to hold their stance. Even with the assumption Alex isnt a mind reader and that even though she said yes he couldnt know she wasnt actually ok with it. She litterally just told him he had an ED. Which screams to me in a million ways to probably not push further. One such thing being if she can barely look in a mirror without feeling bad about herself (an assumption id initially make whether true or not if being told someone has an ED), think about the damage of now knowing thousands of people are going to now look at her and judge how she looks. But I'll leave that for now and give you the benefit of the doubt you just truly didnt think about that at all.
While this is such a specific instance i doubt will come up again i hope you truly take it to heart. Because this isnt only for face reveals. Any time you share anything about anyone on your public facing channel, consider if you have enthusiastic consent from another party. And not consent you had you smooth talk your way into getting.
This isnt me trying to go after you and i hope you've self reflected enough oj yournown to have come to a similar conclusion. But im seeing so many comments of people basically blaming jaiden for this and wante dtonoaint this picture of the mentioned back and forth thar lead to the video and its importance.

Friend A feels the need to go since they don't want to upset their friends and have the possibility of their friends getting mad at them. My issue with this apology is that it took almost seven years and only happened because there was an increase in comments about the situation. I'm sure you didn't mean to but Jaiden admitted that being asked to show her face anyways made her feel in the wrong. That's the issue Alex, you ignored her request despite how she opened up to you. Yeah she eventually said "okay" but after YOU said you didn't like how SHE edited the video for YOU. She likely felt pressured after you kept asking her to let you show her face despite she already asked you not to do so multiple times. And you certainly never should have made her "face reveal" part of the hashtags or title. She asked you not to show her face, you never should have backpedaled on that. You don't get to decide if showing her face would help her.
Yes, the horrible comments are unnecessary and unfair. Yes this happened seven years ago. But you never addressed it and it hurt someone struggling with their image already. You pressured someone (even if not intentional) to give their okay. That's what's messed up. You're still in the wrong here. There never should have been a miscommunication with Jaiden because she shouldn't have needed to ask you not to do it more than once.

I kinda get where you're coming from making this video, but respectfully I think you should really think about rephrasing some of your takes if you actually feel bad about what happened or want to acknowledge your mistakes. Some of these responses read as pretty narcissist and ignorant which is not a good look for an apology video :( Here's some examples:
"My immediate instinct was to support and help her. Knowing she was uncomfortable with the fact reveal I encouraged her to leave it unblurred" - From an outside perspective, this feels like a total cop out. If someone actually cares about someone's mental health and wants to encourage them to challenge themselves, doing that outside of a professional environment and in a non-pressured setting is the ONLY appropriate way to have that happen. It's super weird to ask someone to push themselves in a way that makes them uncomfortable for your own gain, and then claim it's for their mental health once the other person decides to
"The decision was completely left up to her" - ..after she already asked you to blur it and you said it would be better for her to let you do it anyway
"I hope this helps anyone that was confused" - I read that before I watched the video thinking that this was going the both clear up communication and acknowledge the fault you had in the situation, but it just feels like I'm being led to believe that me as a viewer didn't understand something that happened in the situation, when it seems like Jaiden's claims weren't really that "exaggerated" even if you believed you hadn't done anything wrong at the time.
I really encourage you to look back at this video and think about how it reads from someone who's concerned about Jaiden. It's totally fine to make mistakes, but it doesn't feel like you're owning up to your mistakes even after years of the event passing, which isn't even to say that you haven't owned up to your mistakes, but just that this video does not do a good job of communicating that.

Okay, well something that Alex omitted from this apology is, Jaiden never accepted his private apology from back then. She said so in her Subathon three separate times. She also said that the only time Alex contacted her was to get her to convince her fans that they were friends to try and stop the hate on his half.
Also I think it's unnecessary to add all the hate comments you got or are still getting. It takes away from the sincerity of your apology by trying to make your fans feel bad for you. It's just not the video to address them.
Something that puts me off throughout this entire video is the passive aggression.
The way you describe your mistakes as "bad luck."
Some examples of passive aggression are:
    4:08: "What luck"
    3:14: "What?"
(In a angry tone, this might be minor and I can see how some people can excuse this by saying that Alex didn't know the full extent of her struggles and therefore has a reason to be mad, but in my opinion the consent he got was coerced consent, which isn't valid consent, he might not have meant to pressure her into saying yes but as a non-confrontational person such as Jaiden, I imagine she said yes not to upset Alex, although that's just a educated guess from what I know about Jaiden through her videos.)
    6:15: "That was a mistake!"
He says this so passively aggressively here... it's almost like he's blaming Jaiden for his mistake.
8:52: "With my luck, I've probably made 6 more mistakes."
He says this laughing but this is probably the most disrespectful line in this whole apology in my opinion. Mistakes are not something you do because you have bad luck, and in my opinion him saying this during an apology no less is him trying to remove blame and blame his "luck" instead of himself. I'm not a lunatic that says I think he deserves to die.. that's crazy and insane. But what I am doing is pointing out things that didn't sit well with me.

It was a massive topic and YOU were involved, you think you would be reminded of it even after time passes but you weren't. Not only that but coming from someone who has a hard time saying no to people, it was clear you should have just listened to her in the first place, if the first thing someone said to me was that they don't feel comfortable showing their face and struggle with their image, you wouldn't even THINK to second guess them. You did a lot wrong, and even now your intentions still seem wrong. For the most part of your video you seem to be shifting the blame or excusing your behavior, even in some way straw-manning it by weakening your obvious wrong doing with "false allegations." If I wanted to truly apologize to someone, especially seeing how much damage I caused them, I would not include "false allegations" made against me, because that just makes it seem like you're saving your name. I would be interested to see the actual way this "concern" was worded if you're adamant that you were just looking out for her and weren't trying to coerce her into it at all. Even if a statement like "The decision is up to you" was a direct quote, if you put that in the context of something like "the decision is up to you *but* I would really rather do this" it gives it an entirely different tone and meaning. No, people shouldn't be leaving some of the gross hate comments they left you but you are still in the wrong here. She told you she was uncomfortable, she edited the video herself then YOU decided that you knew better about how she was feeling and basically pressured her into giving her "consent". People saying "well she should have been clearer about why", no, she said she wasn't comfortable and that should have been enough. I deal with the same problems she had at the time, very few people IRL know about it because frankly its none of their business. People who deal with this illness prefer not to shed light on it and generally feel like they're burdens or overreacting, it is likely that she felt she couldn't keep saying no because you wouldn't listen to her, that doesn't meant she wanted to say yes. I would have been mortified if I was in this situation and it would have made my mental health so much worse. While it is good to get the other side of the story this feels icky to me, you come across as if you're making all these excuses but not really acknowledging how damaging something like this can be to someone in an already fragile state of mental health. People who haven't suffered through the same thing can't understand, not really, but they should listen when people tell them they don't want to do something because you never know what is going on behind closed doors.

It was a new term that was getting tossed around jokingly. For example, it wasn’t added to urban dictionary until a few months after my video came out. you mentioned how you thought that posting the face reveal would have helped with her self confidence and that she was the one who never truly conveyed her “real” feelings to you but I still think that you shouldve been more conscious of the way you approach the topic of insecurity.
when people try and convince you that they have good intentions even at the cost of your circumstances, you’re often swayed to agree with them whether you want to or not. having experienced insecurity and living life as a doormat for many years, I think the conversation between you and jaiden regarding the video and it being posted was not a genuine representation of “full approval”

Do you think Jaiden felt like a valued part of the RUclips community when you disrespected her and blasted her face on your channel? Do you think she felt like a part of the community when she believed she was disappointing all of her fans at vidcon? Do you think she felt like a part of the community when she made her face video, telling the entire world about her mental health struggles, and how you exploited them?
I don’t believe you were being deliberately mean when convincing Jaiden to let you post the unedited video. I don’t believe you were trying to exploit her for money or clout. But I DO believe you were completely ignorant about her mental health, and mental health in general by association.
She told you about her terrible state of mind, and you used that to manipulate her into “consenting” to the unedited video. Whether you did it intentionally or not, that’s what happened.
Throughout this whole apology you kept on saying “I’m sorry if YOU were hurt by my actions”, whether it was to Jaiden or the viewers. That’s not how an apology works. You should FEEL sorry, whether or not the other party has already moved on or feels bad. You actions were wrong, and you should feel remorse for it.
This isn’t about you, Clark. Nobody cares that hate comments give you a sinking feeling, and that they hurt your feelings. That sucks for sure, but I guarantee what Jaiden went through at vidcon and during the aftermath of your video was 1000x worse.
If you just did the right thing, and listened to Jaiden, things would have turned out way better for the both of you.

Sorry but the video is too up and down things I realise you need to learn from is:
-Stop "fixing" those around you and start listening and respecting their boundaries, this one will save you from future decisions you may make
-Double check video content with those that will be in those videos even if the community chose it your responsible for that video your the one that monitors what gets published
-The videos you showed actually shows Jaiden is uncomfortable and the first one also looks like she got confused that you were filming and she might of thought it was the photo hence the posing then the reaction to cover her face after. If you don't see it that way then I get the lack of social awareness but you have to see why people are supporting Jaiden
-Clear matters like this faster that's a no brainer 2016 is a long time to wait and avoid it
-I don't want to cement the thought but it seems you do have bad judgement it doesn't make you a bad person you just need to talk openingly about you ideas more and get advice from others maybe even a therapist.
-Im sorry you feel alone you don't deserve the extreme commenters they are also inconiderate in these situations but in regards to the next point,
    - Dont laugh in an apology video. You change too quickly between a serious topic then brush it off with a nervous laugh. Not appropriate and getting upset and quiet at the end and changing the direction of the video from apologising to Jaiden and followers to the extreme attacks you been getting can be seen as victimising yourself in the situation probs should of been better in a seperate video. This may not be your intention but can be easily confused with your wording
-Analysis your behaviour make sure you look back and think of the other people you may of upset and you thought you were just joking with
I hope to see you be a better person then your past small steps and deep breaths there are people out there hoping for a positive change but it may need a lot of work to get there but as long as you're progressing you are doing better than the majority of the death threat commenters if anything. It's difficult knowing how much we know now to see a friend making an honest mistake, and I feel as though most people have already determined their opinions, and refuse to change. I felt personally that it was rude to post it even after you saw the edit, but clearly you felt bad that it hurt people, and tried everything you could to make it better, and in my eyes, that's the best you could do. I think that the hurt that came of this will wash away, however it will happen very slowly, especially to people on the internet. I understand what you were trying to do, Alex, I really do, but you absolutely should NEVER EVER EVER post anything someone explicitly asks you not to post, it’s absolutely not okay whatsoever. I’m sorry, I completely understand what you were trying to do, but by doing this, you unknowingly pushed someone into going along with something that they were not comfortable with. What you absolutely should always understand is that people who have social anxiety issues ALSO have problems making it clear when something makes them uncomfortable, they are so unsure of themselves already, and when a person pushes them to do something, they begin to believe that THEY are the one who is wrong, when that simply isn’t the case, I don’t wish any ill towards you whatsoever, but I really hope this whole thing teaches you to never push anything on someone who has already said no to something, you might not realize it, but by “talking them into it” you’re using a form of coercion against them and that just isn’t okay. My personal advice would be to always ask for the permission of someone before including them in something, especially if you are already aware that they have social issues, and if they say no, please just leave it at that and respect that decision. I believe everyone deserves to be happy, and a mistake is a mistake, so I hope that things turn out well for you, please try not to listen to the negative comments from people, if you’re certain about your reasons for doing what you did and no harm was intended, then their comments are simply wrong, right? So don’t let it hurt you so much. Just please, I’m begging you to be cautious about the feelings of others, especially if it is someone who is your friend. I wish you luck in the future.

      2. Alex's account says that Jaiden stated that she was self-conscious about her appearence, but not to the degree that it was crippeling anxiety.. Hell, no one even knew how bad it was until Jaiden told the world in one of her videos, which was well after these events. Expecting Alex to know about Jaiden's mental health issues and the degree in which they haunted Jaiden--when he knew at the same time as everyone else--is where you're unreasonably expecting him to be a mind reader.
      3. I'm sure your assement--based off a two sentence reply--is accurate, buddy.
Stop with the finger wagging and cut the man some slack.

I agree with the rest of the commenters that this isn't the best apology, and doing 7 years later wasn't the best time. I can kind of see this being genuine, but either way maybe it was needed a bit sooner. I feel like this isn't my area either, I've only been watching animation RUclips for a year, so I'll leave it up to everyone else.

Now that I look back at the pizza incident. It was the fans that suggested the words for the twitter poll and the fans chose the words for Alex to draw. Alex and his team forgot about Jaiden’s disorder.

this video hit a note with me. there’s many times that i’ve thought i was ok with someone only to later find out that the person i thought was my friend did not see me as their friend and all the interactions we had as being familiar with each other actually made them feel antagonized; i don’t wanna be like “mental illness card” but its really hard to tell how someone feels and it feels so frustrating when the person feels hurt and never tell you and so you continue like everything is fine because to you it is and only to find out it isnt feels so hurtful and wrong and gross
    - to clarify, i’m not try a paint anyone as anything as i’m pretty sure this is purely two humans who didn’t fully communicate with each other and both hurt each other in turn; they’re both wrong and not. we’re human, we’re messy and we tend to learn from our mistakes and always always, wishing harm on someone is wrong, those commenters saying those awful things is wrong, but it’s also, sadly, what happens on the internet anyway
my two cents went to a dollar but here it is, i needed to write this down becuase the thought wouldn’t leave me. these situations always make me so uncomfortable and always changes the relationship but sometimes that’s for the better “friends for a season, friends for a reason, etc”

I still don't understand why you didn't upload the video Jaiden editted for you that made censoring EASIER for you. All you had to do was NOT reveal someone's face when they ask you NOT to.
