the most scenic location of any NHL team, hopefully it will be a building / development that fits with the river and the historical and visual setting.

I live in Ottawa, and close to the current arena. Even though it would be a longer trip for me to the new arena, I think having a new arena and more importantly a hockey “district”, would be a huge win for this city. Hotels, with places to eat, some entertainment and a hockey game all in the same place is a good thing.
What is critical to this being successful though is to get the LRT running properly. LRT has been a complete joke and fumble of a project. There is currently 0 trust in city run transit. If they can fix that, the new arena has a really good chance of being successful.

It’s funny how quick and easy it came under a new ownership... Hmm wonder if we can do that eventually with a new team in Arizona then.

Great news overall but I heard there'd only be around 15000 seats?
I know ottawa doesn't sell out every game but that seems like a road to very expensive tickets, given that the average attendance last year was 17500 and it was a bad team that was located 30 mins outside of downtown with traffic.
(This might not be true at all, if so my comment is irrelevant)
Ottawa is a big hockey city... it would be a mistake to not have at the very least 17.5k seats

@@neilsunstrum933 A vibrant downtown core is far more important than the convenience of "out of town fans who drive". Besides, it will be far more convenient for fans who live in the core, so is it about choosing which fans are more important? Of course not? Fans are everywhere. You have to think logically. You build it where you get the most benefit. The centre of the city is the centre of where people are concentrated for living, working and enjoying. That's where you want to build your critical mass to build a vibrant city. When they built in Kanata 30 years ago, I knew it was a mistake. Lotsa free parking does not make for an exciting entertainment district where fans actually want to hang out before and after a game. If you want to build something special, it has to be downtown.
