    Ok, you need something a bit special, a performance or luxury car and the budget is 10 grand, there are loads of options out there but these next few are simply better than the rest.
    Now at this budget the important factors really should be reliability, safety, running and maintenance costs, and practicality
    But just because the budget is $10,000, it doesn’t have to be some boring sensible box on wheels either, so we’ve also tried to take into account that these things should actually be fun to drive and dare I say it, even a bit cool.

    At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.
    Plus, thanks to our resident mechanic, Jim, you’ll find out what commonly goes wrong with them and what might need to be fixed.
    Most importantly, we want to make ReDriven a voice for the most in-the-know used car experts there are...you guys.. See, you’re the ones that actually buy, live with, love and sometimes unfortunately hate the cars we’ll be reviewing.
    So we want to hear your thoughts. Hit us up in the comments, or on Instagram and Facebook.
    We’d love nothing more than for you to give us as much feedback as possible, so we can make this channel the best it can be.

    So glad I found your channel mate. It was recommended to me by someone on the Whirlpool Australia forums (which has nothing to do with the appliance brand), as I'm in the sub $10k club for a car to replace my 2006 Fairmont. My mechanic, as expected, has suggested Toyota, Honda, Mazda, and Suzuki, and to avoid the Euro engined Nissan, especially the T30 and T31 XTrail, and Mitsi, due to being on the DSP servicing costs and reliability matter :) I'll be spending the rest of my day bingeing the channel of the $10k playlist, plus general used car advice :)

    The second gen Maxda MX5 is a great looking little roadster even today, its just the right proportions too. My brother had one which I had driven and really loved it. But sadly here in the UK they rust on the underside quite badly, and a lot of the time the corrosion is too far gone like his was. They are still going around here but numbers of them are dropping quickly, only the best examples will survive in a few years then prices will rise for them.

I'm looking for a 3rd car which is also fun and preferably manual...Some of these cars are impossible to find for under 10k... I did see your reply to a similar question and you said to "ditch the regular classifieds and look elsewhere," though how would I find cars outside the regular classifieds (apart from auctions)?

    • @ReDriven
      @ReDriven  Год назад

      It does take some hunting mate but wholesaler and auction sites in regional areas will uncover loads of bargains.
      Also, just because a car is advertised at a certain price doesn’t mean it sells at that price. A motivated seller will often drop thousands off the price if you offer cash immediately.
      I literally just bought a car for $7k yet it was advertised for just under $10k. I did everything we suggest in our used car buyers guide and went back and said “$7k and I’ll pay you cash and take it now”, he agreed on the spot because he just wanted the car gone and couldn’t be bothered dealing with a dozen other people for days on end for an extra $3k. - AK

    Great Vid but why such a low budget? I'd love to hear your views on a special / fun car for $20K and maybe $40K. Used prices have shot up recently and when you get to a very low number like $10K, you're limiting yourself to very old and worn out cars - you're buying someone else's trouble.
    Most of us can afford more than $10K and the field is exponentially larger with a bigger budget, so if you want a bit of fun but can't quite afford new, what should you consider? I think it'd make a great vid. Keep up the good work guys.

    • @ReDriven
      @ReDriven  Год назад +1

      Great request mate and we’ll be doing this series at a bunch of different budgets.
      The reason we’ve hit $5k previously and now $10k is simply because those on such a tight budget generally have to be careful of what they need to spend on maintenance and require cars that are as reliable as possible, plus, they’re very rarely catered for on RUclips.
      There’s already a truck load of supercar videos but medium SUVs for under $10k is all too often forgotten.
      Plus, as we’ve shown, there are some excellent cars available for under $10k so in some circumstances, there’s no need to spend more if you don’t need to. - AK

      Couple of tricks of the trade here. Firstly, go hunting through regional wholesaler and auction stock, you won’t believe the bargains you’ll find.
      Secondly, just because a car is advertised at a particular price, doesn’t mean it sells at that price. A motivated seller will potentially drop a price thousands of dollars if offered cash then and there.

      Not neglecting at all Sam, we made a full Aussie cars series recently (ruclips.net/video/NX3_0PV4GGg/видео.html).
      The thing is, when we feature Aussie cars, we get complaints about featuring cars that the rest of the world can't access and as a huge percentage of our audience is outside from Australia, we do our best to keep the viewers happy.
      Also, we have a major reason (or more accurately, a mischievous plan) of why we don't push Aussie cars......yet!
      We want to wait until ReDriven is (hopefully) a much larger player in the automotive RUclips space because that way, when we have hundreds of thousands (if not over a million) subscribers and viewers, most of which are outside of Australia, we can then expose them to our Aussie cars. - AK

    A really great selection as always guys! Have to question a few things (as always). First a number of these cars you simply cannot find for under $10k. The hatch section had great options that are actually under $10k, but the Veloster Turbo for under 10k? Nah. The standard Veloster is heavy and slow and nowhere near 'hot hatch' that the SS, XR4 and Sportivo are. Plus there were other competitors to these that should be well considered, such as the 9N (I think that's it) Polo GTI with the very robust 1.8T manual (before any of this DSG garb) as well as the Colt Ralliart or rare Brabus ForFour. There's also the Mini Cooper S which in supercharged 1st generation is an absolute hoot. You also have the Clio Sport, Citroen DS3 D-Sport and so on. Oh and the Astra GTC (be it Holden or Opel badged). In the convertible you went with the MR2 (and MX5) but the former is really, really bloody next to impossible to buy for under 10k. They are bloody wonderful things and have much more interior space than the MX5. But that single clutch automated manual can be finicky and despite being a Toyota nobody wants to touch them as they weren't used in literally anything else. They're not terrible, but they can be bloody hard to get looked after. The early ones pre facelift also suffer from oil consumption with the corolla motor. The post 2004s are the ones to get, but there are much less of them and bloody good luck getting one for 10k! For a convertible the Cooper S (again supercharged variant) is an awesome thing and way more practical, plus support is easier to get. Also the Audi TT first gen 1.8T Quattro is a pretty reliable thing and again way better supported. Both can actually be had for under $10k. The other one is the MGF which while having early head gasket failures, the failures were so rampant that any car still on the road today WILL have had that issue resolved. They were otherwise a fairly decent thing and are mid engined, rear drive and actually come with a proper manual! Sports sedans I feel like should have the Octavia RS and Accord Euro. Though the choices there were solid. Oh and where the heck can one buy a 130i for under $10k? Because I want one for that much, please :)

    • @ReDriven
      @ReDriven  Год назад

      Thanks so much for watching and commenting Matt.
      We found multiple Veloster Turbo for under $10k on regional auction and wholesaler sites. Granted, they weren't in wonderful condition but they are out there.
      As far as the competition, Polo GTI we're finding common engine bay plastic issues (amongst other issues) causing expensive grief these days, Colt Ralliart is a brilliant pick but we haven't seen any under $13k for a while now and Brabus ForFour just too rare for our international audience unfortunately,. We try to keep the cars listed as internationally and readily available as possible. The Mini is fun....when it works but that doesn't seem to be all that often these days and thanks to the packaging, repair costs can be catastrophic. The French stuff and the Astra, all fun but not international enough and again, ridiculous parts and repair costs (eg endless electronic gremlins).
      The convertibles were tough to choose from. But when I raised the euro options with all the mechanics and auto industry guys we quiz when compiling these lists, they all made it very clear the euro choices were an absolute no go these days. All have exorbitant parts and repair costs and when the budget is $10k, maintenance an running costs need to be considered equally to driving fun. You're right the MG will have the gasket issue resolved, but the electronics, rubbish engine bay plastics and just shoddy build quality will still persist.
      the 130i for under $10k is a challenge but again, regional auctions and wholesalers are the way to go. Even regional dealerships that often have no idea what they just traded in and assume it's just an old BMW hatch that no one in their area would want, bargains can be found.
      Eg, a very good mate of mine just picked up a pretty decent 330Ci from Broken Hill for $8500. Forget checking the usual classifieds websites, go digging and you'll find gold! - AK

    The old skyline was an ugly duckling in OZ and never really was popular when compared to the 350Z which was a good looking car.

    veloster has to be one of the cheapest feeling cars ive ever driven, rattly, seating position a bit high and overall feels just wrong.

      Interesting, I have kind of the same problem with the seat position but mostly when trying to park, if I set it comfortably it's so low I can't gauge the cars edge without having to lift myself out of the seat, if I set it so I can see better it feels too high, my theory is that this because the windscreen is a bit too curved and when you prop the seat a bit up it feels like your FOV is diminished. I also agree on the cheap feeling, interior cloth that feels like unwashed jeans and easy to scratch cheap plastic trims everywhere inside...
