Am not grateful for Sykes work he is encouraging criminality in the country. As an authority with huge responsibilities you must be smart enough to realize your decisions and reasonings have ramifications way beyond just the specific case/situation. His communication to other criminals is not tough enough! I dont care what people/activists etc want to say about specific case His job as the judge is not restricted to a case we must use cases as opportunities to let criminals know what will and will not be tolerated...MUST!

@@stdm201 Sykes' judgment is questionable, but my comment about being greatful is directed towards the heavy use of concurrent sentencing in Jamaica. If he had given concurrent sentencing on all charges then Blackman would have only been given 25-30 years before being credited with the 5.5 years served. On the low end that would have been less than 20 years.

The sentencing guidelines needs reviewing. There are too many aggravating factors in the crimes committed so as not to warrant life without parole. In charge of the notorious gang, numerous murders, in the public, conspiracy to murder, grevious bodily harm, possession of illegal firearms and ammunition... The list of aggravated factors goes on.... These are all material considerations that ought to be taken in account. There are are the victims impact statements! Come on Cheif Justice, even with time spent, the possibility of parole would be very remote if a proper sentence was handed down.

All who are cursing the Judge don't seem to understand......He is working with the Sentencing guidelines that is on the books.....He is a book man... .he is not deviating from that.....
      The laws and the Sentencing
guidelines need to upgraded to reflect the seriousness of the crimes committed ......Just like how they updated the Gun laws the same thing should be done across the board. .The Laws need more teeth....These Sentences are not a deterrent for others to see and take notes.....in a few years most of these guys will be out.......

Could you imagine if the majority of criminals would get this kind of sentence?? Instead of technical error, lack of no witnesses. No one is getting paid off. No corruption and deterence of committing the unspeakably? Jamaica would be such a BETTER place. When Mr Lawman hit the gavel and announced court is done and justice is served. Tht surely will help to deter CRIMES!! But because this situation here is as rare as it is. Then this is better than nothing. Probably a single life has been saved and another criminal off of the streets!!

Blackman a bout 40 now when him come if him come out him a go be 80, like come on people be realistic he’s ok with that, a judge cannot lay sentencing based off emotions there are sentencing guidelines in which has to be followed, if we want to see changes has to how sentencing is done we have to turn to our leaders, and not just the prime minister and the members of parliament but also the head of state which is in England

In America, you kill 1 person you get life without parole. In jamaica you kill 4000 people. You get 39.5 years. This is the true reason why crime in jamaica is so careless. Condolences to all the innocent families. As for this so-called judge he need to be fired and allow a true judge with compassion for the family's of the dead to take over.

Stop talk foolishness, lots of people in America get away with murder, fine example, the guy that killed the man during the demonstration and leave another disabled, he got off free, and they had him speaking at political conferences, and there are many other similar cases like this.
