@Muzaffar Krylov So, why hasn't S/He showed her/himself to everyone?
In your childhood you were an atheist, as you didn't have the slightest idea of what a religion was, so that means that you were, at some point, shown evidence of this deity. What evidence was this?
Also, how can you tell it's just *one* god, and not two or a million gods?

    • @marcocappelli2236

@Muzaffar Krylov But how can you tell if the creator of the universe has answered your prayers, and it's not some other cause? Even if your prayers HAVE been answered, it doesn't mean _He_ answered them.
Could you give me an example of one of these anomalies, of these answered prayers?

Except that's a false conclusion based purely on incredulity as in truth one side never states any conclusion without a basis in demonstrable evidence and data. Hence why that side has highly accurate explanations for why and how things really are to be best of our understanding and the other side has nothing at all but wild guesses based on wishfull thinking and issues with the one side based purely on baseless incredulity, as faith supposedly is superior to verified information. Lol

Nor do you need to learn everything to know wheter their theories hold the veracity they are presented as to have but you essentialy need to know everything or at least be equivalent to them to flat out reject their decades of work flat out.

      @@N8BALLSACK
Indeed, it's not correct at all to say "that which isn't proven wrong must neccesarily be right" science proper doesn't work that way at all, hence the Black swan fallacy and how it tells us that falsifiability is important to any serious claim and that knowledge constantly change as it grows.
      I.e.
'' In order to prove something, one MUST provide Evidence, ''
      The question is :
How would you define what truth is?
Truth is typically defined as “that which is concordant with reality”.
If we don’t know whether it is concordant with reality, then we don’t know whether it is truth, and we should be honest about that.
We should not assert as fact that which is not evidently true, because that is dishonest.
Logically then, truth is whatever statement can be *shown to be true.
The truth is what the facts are because the facts can be objectively verified.
There are many facts that we know and can show to be true of evolution, for example, but there is not one fact that is positively indicative of or exclusively concordant with gods or magic or mythology.
So when you ask religious believers to show the truth of their religious belief, they can’t, because there’s literally no
      truth in it.
      ..
*Demonstrated to be concordant with reality through tests under controlled conditions aswell as with using accepted protocols of observation, measurement, and evaluation of results.
Truth statements in and off themselves aren't enough to establish what is true.

Creationists who continue to use the arguments "there are no transitional fossils", and "evolution is just a theory" are frustrating. Respond to those statements with the HUNDREDS of transitional fossils, and the accurate definition of a theory in regards to science, and they just kinda fall away. Most refuse to respond because they KNOW they have no good response, and the longer they continue, the more ridiculous they look.

Ultimately they realise that in order to maintain their beliefs it necessitates rejection of certain facts of reality on which modern society has been built upon. I don’t care what personal beliefs a person may wish to hold as long as it is not harmful BUT I do object to when they attempt to impose their values on others with no valid justification except for the belief that it is what their holy book dictates. My other major grievance is their attempts to undermine science and deny children access to the centuries of hard won knowledge humans have granted us. This has significant and potentially dire consequences. The dangers of this mentality has been clearly demonstrated during the current COVID-19 crisis, especially in the US where large groups of the population seem unable to differentiate between information they get from social media and advice from global health experts (often because they don’t actually understand the rationale and foundational principles it is based upon).

@@D-me-dream-smp I witnessed something that was equally disgusting. I know someone who has a daughter that has epilepsy. There is a cannabis extract that she learned could help reduce her daughter's seizures. She got some somehow and tried it and it helped. She said her daughter was having an average of 10-15 seizures a week. While on the extract, it reduced the seizures to 0-2 a week. So, it clearly helped and it in no way harmed the girl. Well, the idiotic and religious politicians in my state blocked that extract from being sold in my state because they thought it didn't agree with their holy book of fiction. She had to drive to another state to get it so she could help her daughter, making it even harder on their family. They finally started allowing it in my state, but i wonder how many people had to suffer through seizures, how many accidents happened because of those seizures and how many people did not have to suffer while they were suffering. I don't accept Yeshua any more than Marduk, Zeus, or Osiris. I treat Santa Claus For Grown-Ups™ the same regardless of what name he is given. My uncle does not understand that in this particular game of ten-thousand-card monte, you don't need to watch the huckster's hands, because no card is ever the right one. The only way to win is not to play. But _I'm_ the easy mark. The projection would be laughable if it weren't coming from a sixty-year old man who is otherwise intelligent.

  • @marconatrix
    @marconatrix 6 лет назад +1

The idea that science is always open to new ideas and interpretations, indeed desires them, is only true in theory. In practice science these days almost entirely takes place within academic institutions and organisations. To advance to a status where anyone will take any notice of your ideas you have to ascend through the 'ranks'. You have to pass exams at school and university, then write theses that are acceptable to your senior colleagues, then write papers acceptable to the journals in your field or books acceptable to academic publishers, etc.
Now it's far far harder to do any of this with a novel idea, than by simply presenting "a little more of the same". For instance when grading a paper, an examiner will look for all the standard points, and as each is mentioned will mentally tick it off his check-list and give you a mark. The mere use of the right term etc. will trigger this. But to present a novel view, you would have to walk the assessor through it all in fine detail, which takes a lot of time, assuming if he or she is even paying attention, so the safe path is always to trot out the current dogma, bring up all the right key words, and try to look original while staying well within the established framework.
This is why science often gets stuck, and instead of steady progress, goes in rare revolutionary leaps. But these only happen when someone, usually outside of mainstream institutions (e.g. a rich amateur etc.) manages somehow to "beat the system".

    • @PaulMarostica

    • @EdwardHowton
      @EdwardHowton 8 лет назад +10

+Rannos22 Dunno about what Aron thinks, but there's a lot of merit to that idea. Weird beliefs (read: mental illnesses) can be dated by their theme. Example? An oblique one, but one I like. Spiderman. Radioactive spider bite causes superpowers. Why radioactive? Because radioactivity and nuclear power were the Big Scary Thing of the era Spiderman was created in. Go back and watch the recent movies lately? Genetic modification. Why? Because it's the Big Scary Thing of today. In the past it was NWO and Aliens and secret pyramid-shaped cabals and, long ago, magical invisible "Stop asking questions, son" daddies in the sky.
Mental illnesses follow the very same pattern, and conspiracy theorists are mentally ill, so they latch on to whatever scary thing is on hand.
And goddamnit, I edited my comment and it decided to fuck up my text and turn apostrophes into weird codes. Fucking RUclips messing shit up again.

+Rannos22 there are 2 issues here.
      1. The preconceived notion that you can believe everything you are told.
      2. Letting that notion run your life like a religion and not seeing the forest through the trees in front of you.
I call that Voluntary Cognitive Blindness and as a result of reading your post you appear to be suffering with it.
Never assume distasteful information is also wrong because you can deny reality but you cannot ignore the consequences of your ignorance.
It`s people like me and actions of like minded people that allow you to have a voice as it is and for our efforts in the courts we cop BS from you lot as well but NEVER a THANKS.
You might need a quick history lesson.
      FYI - list25.com/25-conspiracy-theories-that-turned-out-to-be-true/
Then look at the basics of marketing to see how your life and consumption have been marketed to you.
Stop assuming we are all crazy and pick a subject them FOLLOW the MONEY.POI - Vaccines, GMO food, Homeopathy, Codex Alimentarius, World Health Organization, Federal Reserve Bank, Fractional Reserve Banking, Money generation through Promissory Notes, Admiralty Law and Birth Certificate to name just a few.How about you look into taxes paid by non-for-profit organizations like World Wildlife Fund, Unicef etc then look at the actual percentage of funds transferred versus fund received and tell me there isn't anything fishy going on.
I did and THAT is the reason ( I no longer donate Money ) my efforts are put into a system of corruption where I can see the result of OUR ( not yours but OUR ) actions.
      The Rights of the PEOPLE.
And just for the record - IF shit really does hit the fan, it`s people like me that people like you will need but after all the crap WE have received,
Good luck thinking you have any more chances left to cash in on - so to speak.

My mom being one of them, whom I love dearly and is a Christian. As a child I would ask her questions and her response was " we just have to have faith", faith in what I asked her, her reply was "faith in gods plan". Never got an answer from her, but she did respect my reasoning when I told her, " I cant believe in the bible and I can't have faith in the Christian religion", she respect my stance and made a deal with me. I had to continue going to church until I turned 16 and then I would not have to go. And the day I turned 16 was the day I never went back to church, until my first child was born and we only went once.

Just a clarification, while the West Semitic alphabet did replace the cuneiform of Mesopotamia, there was no break in the writing system due to a regional flood, or fall of empires, it continued and developed for another 2 millenniia beyond Gilgamesh's supposed time, gradually being replaced (circa 3rd-1st century b.c.e.) by Aramaic-based alphabet derived from earlier west Semitic scripts, tespecially with the rise of Aramaic (Syrian) as a lingua franca. A different Cunieform was also used to write Old Persian, and it was also replaced by an Aramaic derived alphabet script to write Middle Persian.

I find it funny when creationists attempt to "level the playing field" with misconceptions or outright lies about evolution and science as a whole. They believe that they are evelating their own position to a "equal" point with science, and hope to get the benefits from it. What they fail to realise, however, is that they are doing the opposite. Even if every single one of their points against science were correct, all they would do is drag science down to their level. It would still be the unprovable, asserted without evidence, faith-based, dripping with dishonesty, and outright damaging position it always has been.

I find this to be incredibly ironic - and unfortunately I don't think anyone will be able to share this experience with me...
Before starting this video, I received an Ad for CNN's new season of Finding Jesus; and the advertisement clearly shows a reverence for Jesus, even calling it, "The Greatest Story Ever Told," as they do...
But what's interesting is...Finding Jesus isn't the full title; it has a subtitle as well.
The full version is; "Finding Jesus: Faith, Fact, Forgery."
Within the ad itself, the title is displayed against the dawning sun, whereas the portion of light is so bright, that the word "forgery" is slightly obscured...Coincidence? Accident? I doubt it.
The series description says that it's supposed to be an investigation - like science is - to either validate or debunk artifacts that might allude to Jesus' existence. So far, they've barely debunked any of the artifacts they've found, using most of them as viable evidence for Jesus' existence...
And the reason for that is...the people behind the "science" of this show are from Religious backgrounds...I'm sure we all have watched enough Aron to see what a dangerous combination THAT could be.
I checked out the comment section on a few websites covering the show; they're filled with nothing but complaints pointing out the dubious science - or lack thereof - in the series, and how most of what the show actually says is blind speculation only backed up by scripture.
I feel like its worth checking out this series just point out what they've gotten wrong.
