If you go max speed, you can actually pass by the patrol car and ascape it! That was my approach. Fantastic game. Spent hours playing it, gone to every city, in every driving condition. Amazing what a good progammer can do with 64 kilobytes of memory. Now people have gigs of memory, and they complain... What a shame
This was one of my favorite racing games back in the day on my Atari 800. It combined the best elements of Pole Position and Pitstop, so there was quite a bit of strategy involved. You had to deal with weather elements, road construction, rush hour traffic, fuel, and of course, being pulled over for speeding! Since you could choose the starting time of your race, if you planned it carefully you could avoid rush hour during important legs (usually the final one) and be in good standing.
This was a very good game. While Pole Position may have had (slightly) better graphics, there was not as much strategy involved. The obstacles like gas usage, weather, police, time of day as the race wore on made this fun. One trick I always used was changing the start time of the race, so I wouldn't run into the time costly rush hour traffic on the final leg. Of course, playing this on the AtariWin800 PLus emulator, you never have to worry about collisions ever again. :)
U této hry jsem vydržel hodně dlouho, kam se hrabe NFS - ještě v ani jednom dílu se nemuselo tlačit auto k pumpě, když došel benzín! :-D Je to také možná jediná hra na Atari 800 XL/XE, kde se muselo řadit!
U Pole Position tiez - joystick vpred = rychlost LO, joystick vzad = rychlost HI :-) Ale hej, standardne radenie vacsina hier na akomkolvek pocitaci / konzole neexistovalo.
Wow !!! This was one of the first pooter games I had and it's amazing to see (and HEAR it - that sound is REALLY GOOD) it again after such a long time. Glad you included my favourite snowy section and reminded me of the forgotten night stage.
Yihhhh ! All my 800XL games used to do that. You could lessen the chance if you wound the tape header up before you started loading - but there was still a bit of a risk when you had to flip the cassette to the second side....Heh - after your FIRST 45 minutes of waiting.
did you know, that when the police radar is flashing, you don't have to slow down to 60mph. You can speed up to the maximum, and then the police car passes you and nothing happens. You just have to look out, not to collide with the police. This was my solution for the game :D
i'm really suprised its not avilable on cartridge since its a activison game, and so many activison titles were released. i mistakenly was convinced, but i had no evidence for my opinion other than any activision title ive been looking for has turned up at some point on cartridge i have a few like kaboom, river raid, keystone kapers and pitfall
I remember playing this game! Man, the sound affects are bad, lol! Was it this one or Night Driver where they had a foggy night drive that was impossible to see the frigging road?

This games owned. I swear I avoided one wreck later in life due to toning my driving reflexes from this game. Good memories :)

This game is similar to Enduro (atari 2600)and outrun.
It's surely inspired by those two games.
Try playing this with Eric Clapton's "Behind The Mask" playing in the background. I've forever associated that song with this game.
