    The weight (potential energy) of the initially added water lifts the water from the well. Water doesn't compress much, but it DOES compress. In order to overcome the losses in the system, more water (by weight) leaves the barrel, than enters the barrel. This is because the water that leaves the barrel is at higher pressure than the water which enters the barrel. Eventually the weight of the water in the entrance pipe will suck air into the barrel through the output pipe, and the process stops.
    You can still use this principle to "use water to lift water". You get more water out than you pour in, but this NOT "free energy" and it is NOT an eternity-machine. You have to fill the barrel by hand every now and then.
    You could also just have used a bucket to lift water from the well in the first place....
    The laws of physics still apply, if you don't accept them, know them or understand them. Such is life.

      It's the vacuum created by the water leaving that sucks the water up so it all depends on how much water can fit in the up pipes and how strong the barrel is. A valve and break bleeding kit could be used to prime it

    • @buddyboyudon
      @buddyboyudon 6 месяцев назад

      So not actually pressure but a vacuum?

    • @plesnererik
      @plesnererik 6 месяцев назад +3

      @@buddyboyudon , it is not a vaccum, but an underpressure in the barrel. It takes app. 0.1 bar to lift water 1m. Hence, the underpressure in the barrel has to be 0.1bar for each meter the water has to be lifted from the well. If the water has to be lifted 3m, the underpressure will have to be 0.3bar. This is enough to collapse most plastic barrels.

If the outmut is higher than the well, air will suck in from the output. Water from the barrel will come out in gulps until the tank is empty and it all stops.

      @@butcoin2073 This apparatus is a siphon with a startup barrel. No siphon can lift any water from one level (well) to a higher level (surface of the ersrth) . To lift water you need an energy source. Here there are no energy source pt for the water you manually liftet up into the barrel. If, or when, this water is out of the barrel, there is no energy to maintain any flow. If you dip the output from the system into a bucket of water, you block any air from entering the barrel from the output side, and absolutely no water at all leaves the system.
      If the water level in the source is higher than the output, then this siphon runs fine. Reason for using a barrel is so you can drop using a foot vale at the suction side. You couls use a simple hose or tube if you find a way to fill it to get the siphon started.
      At the output side one has better access and normally use a ball valve or a plug, a plastic bag and a rubber band or simply a helper using his bare hands
