Mark Richt has won 2 SEC titles for UGA, but the BCS has never taken UGA to the national championship when had our chances. In 2002, UGA finished 13-1 with a sugar bowl win, but the BCS still didn't take us to the NC game. Florida was 13-1 in 2006 & 2008 and the BCS still allowed them to go to the NC game. In 2011, Alabama went to the NC game without playing in the SECCG. In 2007, LSU went to the NC game as a 2-loss team. In 2004, Auburn was undefeated & still couldn't go to the NC game.
It all depends on what’s going on around the country… if there was another undefeated team, Florida wouldn’t have made it either of those years… idk if any team was undefeated in 08, Oklahoma also had a loss as well
“...need to play with more emotion...” a PERFECT summary of Mark R’s UGA coaching career. Say what you want to about Kirby Smart but he does not accept a lack of effort.
GATA SW36 and JJ29. Great win for Richt and his staff. Finally a win over a quality opponent. Long drought since 2006 when they beat Auburn at Jordan Hare.
This defense was good....but to see the difference between this defense and what we have now, is Insane. Night and day difference. Defense is loaded at every position now! I love it!!
The broadcasters don't notice (or fail to mention) that Jarvis Jones is the guy who helps Reed off the turf after the fumble. It's too bad the cameras didn't show this b/c it was a classy, professional thing to do.
The Tech game in 2009 was a good win, but yeah... we really haven't had much to cheer about over the last five or six years. I feel so much better knowing we won this game, not even just because we won, but because of what it meant to beat a top ranked team. I believe if we could just get up for games like this on a regular basis, we can play with anyone.
Georgia and Texas A&M are both deserving of a BCS bowl I agree. That's just how the ball bounces. LSU and South Carolina also could be in a BCS bowl.....I don't like the rule that only 2 teams from a conference can go.......Texas A&M may be the best team in the conference. Florida is very happy to get the Sugar bowl......I would give Georgia the Sugar to have had a shot at an NC game though.
2:17:20 that was a sick run, the way he jumped over that dude, then spun around despite that dude grabbing his jersey, that's a scramble you wish you could repeat in Ncaa 14
Louisville was still a Big East team, & the Sugar Bowl was on a neutral site field. Columbia, SC was home-field advantage for the gamecocks (largest crowd in SC history) plus like I said before, no one would've beaten SC on Oct. 6, 2012. UGA was coming up a tough game vs. Tennessee the week before so it was tough for us to overcome. Florida had a few weeks to prepare for Louisville on a neutral site field after Florida State yet you still got embarrassed.
This yrs sqaud tops the 2012 squad not that it wasn't good or anything. One of my favorite wins over the Gators but doesn't top my trip to Jacksonville and seen that 42-7 on their way to a SEC Championship and played for a national championship. UGA is going 15-0 in 19 or 20.
I was out of town and missed the game. You can't imagine how excited we were to hear that Georgia won. Thank you for posting the game so that we can still watch it.
I actually came to Jax to watch this game. I remember because it was my first Georgia game and also something that stands out with this memory of the game is how sloppy this game actually was... I can remember both Georgia and Florida had like 7 turnovers in this game
Let's say there was a Florida-Louisville series in football that lasted 7 games with the 2-3-2 format. The first 2 & last 2 are held at Gainesville, FL, and the middle 3 are held at Louisville, KY. Do the same with Georgia-South Carolina, Clemson-LSU, Florida-South Carolina, or LSU-Ole Miss for an example. We'd really find out how good each of the teams are for sure right after all the adjustments, but college football is not like that. You only get one matchup to see who came ready to play.
There are great rivalry games out there. USC vs ND is great as well as OU vs Texas. I just think that Fla-GA is the best because its usually a really close game and the teams are always usually even in skill and it comes at a neutral site where the crowd is half blue and half red. Its something special to see I'll say that much
You seem like a classy guy. I like how you trash talked me in a really honest and fun manner haha and you weren't a complete dirtbag about it. I admit I do wish I could see a sustained success like Florida has had over the last 20 years (I'm used to not having it; I like all the Atlanta sports teams as well as the Dawgs lol). I just had to realize that life moves on without it, and I can't worry about if Georgia will ever win a championship in my lifetime. That's just how I cope with it lol.
Yes, this game was one of the best defensive battles in the series alright, 2010 was a great OT game too, and yeah, the Iron Bowl is one of the best rivalries in college football too. Especially those 2009 & 2010 Iron Bowls, an undefeated eventual national champions Alabama surviving on the road @Auburn, and the next year, an undefeated eventual national champions Auburn surviving on the road @Alabama. Those 2009 & 2010 AU-ALA teams nearly got their hopes & dreams destroyed by their arch-rivals!
Indeed what you are saying is indisputable. Recent success has been amazing, i was simply trying to point out how difficult it had been for Florida to find a whole lot of success apart from the last 23 years. Im really not sure how Florida fans lived with themselves before the 90s. Kind of like Florida College for Women's success after they joined the ACC, dominate in recent history.
I was at this game (Dawgs fan). It was my first Ga/Fla game and I don’t think it will ever be topped! One of the wildest college football games I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to a lot. I think ESPN called it “The Worlds Largest Outdoor Turnover Party”.
Yeah, because the game was in Columbia, SC, it was impossible to defeat South Carolina on October 6, 2012, because it was the loudest crowd in SC history with over 100,000 gamecock fans in a primetime night-time game. Florida had home-field advantage against South Carolina last season & Carolina had a hangover coming off a tough game in death valley vs. LSU. Had Florida played South Carolina on October 6 instead of October 20, the outcome shoulda could WOULD'VE been way different.
Nick Saban does some type of special recuiting that no other coach in the nation does, Saban is a recruiting genius, Georgia has one of the top recruiting classes in the nation, a lot of schools like Alabama, Florida, LSU, South Carolina, etc. likes to recruit players from Georgia, but they don't focus on recuiting from Florida, they focus on more players from Georgia! Florida's recruiting is easier to handle! A lot of players from the NFL come from Georgia! Politics don't want to mention that!
For sure. I would have to say that I would rather watch Florida and Georgia only because I cant stand Bama or Auburn. ;) But Nick Saban is one hell of a coach.
Wow, Rod Gossett has a ton of comments on this video. Guess he doesnt realize that florida didnt win the conference once until 1991. Dont get me wrong they have had some really great teams since then, but i dont think its fair to claim how great florida is when they spent most of their time being mediocre. Steve is a heck of a coach and he turned around any team he coached. I understand the trash talk, id just expect it from a team with more national titles and history.
My point was that Florida has been in the SEC championship game the most of any team and is currently ranked 3rd in the Nation......history does matter when discussing a program and how well it has done.....I hope you can see that....the fact is that Florida has 2 NC's in the last 6 years and is playing in another BCS bowl.....its 12th BCS bowl in the last 20 years.....think about that!!
In 2002, Florida defeated #5 Georgia and Georgia still went to the Sugar Bowl, 10 years later in 2012, we give #2 Florida revenge and ruin their undefeated season and Florida still goes to the Sugar Bowl this year instead of us!
Ok maybe not #1 but at the time Florida did have one of the best offenses in the SEC, averaging 30.1 points a game in their first 7 games. Among SEC teams in the first 7 games. Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina were the only teams that averaged more points per game in the first 7. And yes i am passionate. And no im not trying to bash Florida. Are they a good team? Yes. Will i cheer for them in bowl games? Yes (except for this year when they got into the sUGAr Bowl).
I think Florida and Georgia is better. But I mean, it is all preference guys. My favorite is Notre Dame v. SC just because I am an Irish fan. But I also think that the Iron Bowl and Cocktail Party are both great games. Bo Jackson was being recruited by Bama and was told that Auburn wont beat Bama and that he wont play til he is a Jr. So Bo signs with Auburn, beats them and intensified the rivalry. Beieve me guys, both are good.
Florida blew out South Carolina because South Carolina came off a tough game vs. LSU in Death Valley & it was too tough for them to overcome. Plus, your gators had the home-field advantage as well. Think about it, look at the outcomes of the Heat-Spurs series. What if we only saw Game 3 @Spurs instead of Game 1, 2, & 4-7, no one would really know the level of how good the teams are.
It was fun ruining Florida's season this year, and yes, I agree about that Tech statement. Remember the 2008 game, when we had a 7 year streak and we were one year away from tying Georgia Tech's longest streak against us (1948-1956) 8 years, but Tech cut our 7 year streak and we could've had a 12 year streak against them right now if had we won that game, it was a nightmare in Athens in November 2008, BEHOLD, THE TRIPLE OPTION OFFENSE! It was Stafford, Moreno, & Massaquoi's last home game smh.
Everyone overlooks the fact that Georgia turned the ball over 4 times in the FIRST HALF! Two interceptions were tipped passes that bounced off our receivers. So just admit the fact that Georgia whooped Florida's ass all game!
The BCS is all about luck. The voters decide whether you get to go to the NC game or not. Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, & Tennessee have all won SEC titles during the BCS era and 5/6 teams have ended up going to the NC game afterwards. Georgia is the only team of the six who has won at least one SEC title but still was not able to go to the national championship game. If there was a playoff system in college football since 1998, UGA would have at least 2 national titles right now.
There's no doubt we have the potential to be that kind of program, with our resources and being a massive SEC school in the heart of the Southeast. But winning is never easy to get to. It takes guys who are wise with the resources given to them. Some of our great years were the wrong years lol (12-1 in 2002 when Miami and Ohio State were undefeated, for example), but elsewhere when it's been there for us to take we failed, like this year. Just the way it's been for us.
in some ways it actually matters a lot. Georgia basically had 3 games (counting the sec cg) that they REALLY had to get up for. Florida had 5 of those games this year, A and M, Lsu, Scar, Uga, and Fsu. So when you look at actual scheduled games of difficulty Uf had 5, Georgia had 2. Uga knew all they had to win was beat UF while uf was just coming off consecutive games vs Scar and Lsu. Its no ones fault but the schedule helped uga BIG TIME this year.
Actually, Alabama still has an easy schedule for the next two years, Bama hasn't really had a tough schedule since 2010. UGA had an easy schedule in 2011 and the only tough team on our 2012 schedule was @South Carolina. The 2013 UGA schedule is the toughest we've had since 2010, we have @Clemson, South Carolina, LSU, & @Tennessee the first few games which won't be easy for us. Florida has a tough schedule too, @LSU & @South Carolina. Alabama will keep getting an easy schedule the next few years.
Believe me I am die hard Bulldog fan and I love the Georgia Florida game but a great rivalry isn't defined by the series its about the mutual respect between the players as well as the bitter distain and it doesn't get must fierce or intense then it does between Auburn and Alabama just ask Harvey Updyke.
The dawgs will be young on Defense and people will say i'm crazy for stating this but our youthful Defense should be BETTER than 2012's uber talented Senior/NFL class. The players next in line are a better FIT and we finally have some depth after poor recruiting and injuries. O is back, Kickers are back. If our D can survive the early season, we could be special.
Swedes, I'll give you that one, Louisville came fired up because no one believed that they were good enough to compete against one of the top SEC defenses out of the entire country. ESPN & the media all thought Florida was gonna blow out Louisville & it motivated the cardinals to come out fully prepared & fired up to get that big win against #3 Florida.
cx g - There were thousands of SAD Flooriduh fans LAST YEAR.lol I loved the sad gator fan wearing cape, like he was super man. He looked like a SUPER CRY BABY-LOL
I feel for you buddy.....I've always thought Georgia had a great program, especially under Vince Dooley.....lots a great winning tradition. You would think they would have more NC's and have been in the hunt for more over the years. Let's hope they take care of Michigan in the Capital One bowl.
Unless you're speaking after 1990, we ACTUALLY have TWO (2) National Championships one in the 40's, one in 1981 (1980 season), BARELY lost the one in 83, and could have easily been National champions this year. Because whoever won last nights game would (and will) CRUSH Notre Dame.
I know what you mean, just watched Georgia drop one to Vandy. its gonna be weird to see Mizzou in the SEC Championship game if things keep going the way they are.
Louisville got by on an easy schedule. THAT is the only reason they were in the SB. A team that lost to Syracuse and Connecticut. And lets not forget the bowl game where Florida lost to a Michigan team who lost to Appalachian State! hahaha
Georgia were five yards from beating Alabama. Would Saban have said that if Alabama beat Georgia 54-16 like they beat Florida in the SEC championship last year? Probably not.
Joe Johnson wtf we beat Florida. The only reason why Florida got in was because we had 2 losses even tho we beat those mofos fair and square and they had 1. Stole a Sugar Bowl from us.
Yeah I get what you were saying, I never got to see the down times for gators though since I wasn't even alive yet lol, But I've saw a few mediocre seasons like the ones under Zook and of course Muschamp's first season, and now this year is looking mediocre.
I love when Florida fans say they "gave" GA six turnovers. It's not like you just handed the ball to the defenders.... The difference between a Gator fan and a baby? The baby stops crying after a while
Complete victory ! It's a spiritual matter ; can you feel it now! Tic toc! Tic toc! In flesh dwelling! Only two items on this menu! Are we clear! Complete victory!
20 years behind florida in football? Last time I checked Georgia owns the series record and always has. Florida is just playing catch up. Also, the men's basketball series record between Georgia and Florida is 108-99 and it isn't a record Georgia hasn't held before unlike your football team in the football series record. Georgia's athletic program as a whole also has more national championships than florida with 39. Florida has 31. Maybe you should get on our level instead.
The refs were to flag happy that game... It's a big game, you gotta let the players play.... At least 4 big flags in that game that shouldn't have been called.... But that was a good defensive game....
Driskel had threw 2 interceptions, Murray had thrown 3 of them, Jarvis Jones forced yall 3 and Swann forced that one at the beginning. It was an ugly game by both of the teams and everybody was bad offensely. Each of the defenses played their hearts out and made plays and stops but in the end UGA's defense came out stronger than Florida's. I predict next years game in Jacksonville might be more of a shootout than a defensive battle but we just have to see.
At the 44:10 mark I would have released the gator head coach in the middle of the game...he is not got his head on straight and his teams on offense are averaging about 110th in the NCAA
Turnover 1 - Forced Fumble, hit on Driskel by Swann. Turnover 2 - Forced Fumble, hit by Jones and Jenkins Turnover 3 - Driskel running from pressure, throws a weak ball as a result of said pressure, intercepted by Rambo Turnover 4 - Driskel hit as he is throwing, resulting in a bad pass, intercepted by Swann Turnover 5 - Botched hand-off Turnover 6 - Forced Fumble by Jones. The fifth turnover was just because Florida sucks. Georgia forced the other five. Have fun watching the SEC Championship.
It doesn't matter which team is better, Georgia will always beat Florida. Look at the series history, the dominant team rotates over a ~20 year period. Florida won 18 out of 21; before that, Georgia went 15-4; before that, it was 13-5 Florida. Now it's Georgia's turn. Even when Florida is the better team (like 2012), UGA will win. Georgia was better in 2002, 2003, and 2005, yet Florida won all those games. Enjoy a 16-4 Georgia run, because history says it's coming, and it's already underway
UCF went 11-3 that season winning their conference. Georgia finished 6-6 and barely lost. Not to mention, even as bad as Georgia was in 2010, UF had to rely on overtime to beat Georgia that year. So you weren't world beaters then either.
As a UF fan I will admit there is some merit to what you say however UGA has a long way to go to getting this rivalry back on a level playing field (going off the last 25yrs). Im not sure how losing the best players off an ''awful'' offense is going to hurt and sure the defense will be worse but its still UF. Do you expect scrubs lol? Youre right I wouldnt go off recruiting rankings etc...every UGA fan should know that. No one has done less with more than the UGA bulldogs in the last decade.
Well now they got two
"That's mutual respect right there"- Commentator
"Bullshit, we hate them, they hate us, no respect required"- Fan of either team.
CAPNJACKSPARR0W1 True. You are so right.
Long drought since 2006 when they beat Auburn at Jordan Hare.
south carolina fan here......this was a fun game to watch....one of the best games last year
Beating Florida is the sweetest victory, but losing to Tech is the worst feeling ever.
I heart Malcolm Mitchell.
This game was awesome, even though I'm a Gator fan I'm glad this vid was posted.
This defense was good....but to see the difference between this defense and what we have now, is Insane. Night and day difference. Defense is loaded at every position now! I love it!!
as a 12 year old who was born in gainesville and grew up there. this was the first and only game i ever cried over lol
I was pissed this game as well… only cried after the 08 Ole Miss loss and the 09 SEC championship game
Thanks a millions for uploading. Missed this game on game day and finally found somewhere to watch it, and with no commercials or halftime. Awesome!
I'd rather lose in the SEC Championship Game than back my way into the BCS knowing my team NEVER had a shot to play for the national championship.
The broadcasters don't notice (or fail to mention) that Jarvis Jones is the guy who helps Reed off the turf after the fumble. It's too bad the cameras didn't show this b/c it was a classy, professional thing to do.
Complete victory!❤😊
It was a sloppy, but intense game. Bad Ass SEC FOOTBALL RIGHT THERE. I watched the whole damn thing.
Amen. Still lead the all-time series, won the last two games. That's what matters.
Complete victory! Got it !
I miss that Georgia team

Murray setting many SEC records, something Driskel couldn't do if he were a 4 year starter.

in some ways it actually matters a lot.
South endzone in the student's section and completely lost my voice. One of the best games I've ever been to.
We would be ready this season lost a lot of talents but we would be ready go dawgs!
Wow now Malcolm Mitchell is a really nice guy who writes children's books and wins Super Bowls. GO DAWGS!!! GO PATS!!!
If our D can survive the early season, we could be special.
this was so heartbreaking as a gator fan 😩
Well, that's how the BCS works, I'm really interested on how this playoff system is going to work in 2014 though!
Complete victory!❤
None of our fans thought this was an upset
Swedes, I'll give you that one, Louisville came fired up because no one believed that they were good enough to compete against one of the top SEC defenses out of the entire country. ESPN & the media all thought Florida was gonna blow out Louisville & it motivated the cardinals to come out fully prepared & fired up to get that big win against #3 Florida.
i notice you didn't put up the series w-l record for UGA-UF. are you really that upset that UGA whip FL ass last year? most likely again this year
I was at this game. Nice to see sad Florida fans
cx g -
There were thousands of SAD Flooriduh fans LAST YEAR.lol
I loved the sad gator fan wearing cape, like he was super man.
He looked like a SUPER CRY BABY-LOL
Go Dawgs! Nice to relive this!🏈
Amen to UF tears
I feel for you buddy.....I've always thought Georgia had a great program, especially under Vince Dooley.....lots a great winning tradition. You would think they would have more NC's and have been in the hunt for more over the years. Let's hope they take care of Michigan in the Capital One bowl.
Murray to Mitchell another legend in Bulldawgs lore!
I love how you can hear all 45,000 Georgia fans yell "BALL" when he fumbled at the end... true fans... Go Dawgs
Looking back at it now, this game had SO MANY flags
I know what you mean, just watched Georgia drop one to Vandy. its gonna be weird to see Mizzou in the SEC Championship game if things keep going the way they are.
In fact....Georgia has twice the population of Alabama, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas.
Louisville got by on an easy schedule. THAT is the only reason they were in the SB. A team that lost to Syracuse and Connecticut. And lets not forget the bowl game where Florida lost to a Michigan team who lost to Appalachian State! hahaha
Not one player on either team wanted to win this game...except for Jarvis Jones.
Georgia should have beaten Alabama
At the least they should have gone to a BCS bowl over FL to save them from the embarrassment they suffered.
Nick Saban HIMSELF said in the postgame interview that it would be a "crying shame" if Georgia didn't get into a BCS bowl.
Florida should’ve beat Georgia. Yawn
The baby stops crying after a while
Whoever won this game would go to the SEC Championship, and yes UGA did. GO DAWGS!
Did Florida Football even exist prior to the 90's?
i heard FSU and their number 1 ranked D would shut down our offense too....
26:00 favorite tackle ever up there with Marcus Howard strip sacking Colt Brennan in the sugar bowl
The refs were to flag happy that game... It's a big game, you gotta let the players play.... At least 4 big flags in that game that shouldn't have been called.... But that was a good defensive game....
this game rips my heart out
Florida looked so scared in this game. They choked away their chance at Atlanta
the BCS system is all about who plays last thats why every conference is putting in a championship game
2022 season is going to be like 2012 but better 🐊
Not quite
It's great to be a Georgia Bulldog!!
At the 44:10 mark I would have released the gator head coach in the middle of the game...he is not got his head on straight and his teams on offense are averaging about 110th in the NCAA
GO DAWGS !!! 🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈
Go dawgs
Great win for Georgia.
I am a Florida fan but all these Georgia comments. Damn! Florida did try to put up a fight but couldn't get it
Great Post Dude...
Turnover 1 - Forced Fumble, hit on Driskel by Swann.
Turnover 2 - Forced Fumble, hit by Jones and Jenkins
Turnover 3 - Driskel running from pressure, throws a weak ball as a result of said pressure, intercepted by Rambo
Turnover 4 - Driskel hit as he is throwing, resulting in a bad pass, intercepted by Swann
Turnover 5 - Botched hand-off
Turnover 6 - Forced Fumble by Jones.
The fifth turnover was just because Florida sucks. Georgia forced the other five. Have fun watching the SEC Championship.
44:02 LOL commentators had me rollin so hard
HOW BOUT THEM DAWGS?! I'm so relieved I will be able to see the Oar in Tate tomorrow!
Between Florida & Georgia Tech, I don't know which of these two teams I have complete hatred for the most!
