Do you know what I like about this song? It's not just the lyrics and instruments that collide together to tell such a rhythmic story. It's you. These comments, some I'd admit are dumbfounded. Though they show pride in who youare. To all those Irish people that still feel that spark inside you of your Irish blood pulsing at every beat. I hold my hand to you. As a Cornish-man, as a brother of old blood. We've lost the fight in calling ourselves Cornish and full now under England. I hope you don't.
I'm like 7% Irish and I wish I was born Irish. I'm the most Irish person out of all of my friends, including the one who's about 75% Irish. This song annoys them all to death and I love it so much!
I just realised that at 1:30 that may be a possible reference to Voodoo. Though I might be stretching it a bit... I mean the song is about Irish slaves transported into slavery in the Caribbean after English Civil War, so at this time they would have met a lot of West African slaves in the colonies. IIRC Voodoo started out as a mix of West African religions and Roman Catholicism in Haiti (at the time the French colony of Saint-Domingue). It never really occurred in any British colonies, but I do like the idea of Irish Catholicism mixing with West African Vodun religions.
+Eoghan Todd of course the religions mixed. that is a very deep subject of study. The mixing of Catholicism and Vodun and all the interpretations that came out of it.
@ falleninyoureyes Prior to forming Flogging Molly, Dublin born Dave King was the vocalist for heavy metal band Fastway featuring guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke of Motörhead and bassist Pete Way of UFO in the early to mid '80s.
Tired in the morning? Just put on this song and try to sing along :D you won't be tired after that, and thats a promise! (im doing this every morning before going to work)
guys can we just agree to disagree? when i read back in the comments i dont want to see a bunch of people raging about opinions completely irrelevant to the freaking song. please guys, just enough. listen to the good music and have a good time.
i'm American first but i remember the fact that my grandmother came to this country during a time were she was spat on and businesses had signs that said "no Irish need apply."
@20062013 yehh.... im fully with you on that one.... every one is good in their own mind but might not be in the heads of others... life is fucked... every thing happens for a reason!
this is the most catchy song I've ever heard about oppression

We celts, celts are we. From wherever we are from. Feuds of old are just that.

In the context of this song, the people of lowland Scotland were enemies too

My World History homework is based on this.
It's the songs like this that make you proud to be IRISH :)
It’s songs of truth like these that really iron out the fact that I live in a country full of truly stupid people. 🇺🇸
