    He hasn't played an elite season in 2yrs, and its not like he had 5 of them before that. The seasons in 2020 & 2021 where in various bubble/hub conditions. And while he's shown he's very competent in front of goal, his field kicking has been patchy and for a mid that matters. And his moderate off-field challenges, along with an ACL add questions on return.
    The Bulldogs should have traded him last year when they still had the year of contract remaining as some leverage.
    But these are the trades that help Geelong stay at the top. His potential is probably a mid-first pick of a late first and second, but he has enough question marks on him currently that a first round pick could end up being overs.

      You are a dumb club. You have no pick before 35 in a strong draft, yet could get 17 from Geelong and 25 from North, and you turn it down.
      You need to rebuild before Tassie come in. You aren't playing these guys, so use them as currency while they still have value. You won't get better picks than this for these players going forward, when they are a year older. Now is the time to clean up in a super draft.
      Besides, according to the experts, pick 30 is almost as good as pick 1 this year, so pick 17 in this draft is as good as top ten pick.
      If Sam Power gets these deals done, he has done a good job. If he fails to trade these three, and weakens your draft hand, then it makes him as much of a dud as a list manager as he was as a player.

      @HitchyBruh 11 дней назад +7

      There’s huge differences, first is that Shai Bolton is contracted till the end of 2028 so Richmond can keep him and also a club looking to get him will have to offer what he’s worth as a minimum where as Bailey smith is out of contract so if a deal with Geelong doesn’t happen dogs will get nothing by sending him to the draft. 2nd is Shai Bolton hasn’t been injured like Smith has missing the entirety of 2024 season. Dogs don’t have a strong position here.

      @@Tosicc567 nah there’s actually a good chance Geelong will still pick him up through the draft, Smith has made it clear he wants to be at Geelong so clubs won’t be looking to grab a player that doesn’t want to be there, has had multiple injuries and the fact that the draft is extra promising this time around matters too.
      Also no one wins? I mean at worst Geelong keep their pick, Bulldogs get absolutely nothing. Would u rather a first rounder in a strong draft or nothing? Btw I wasn’t saying Geelong’s 1st pick was great for the dogs but I do think the 1st round pick and a future 2nd or 3rd round pick is fair and dogs would accept this. My point mainly came from Smith not being worth 2 first rounders like Richmond are being offered for Shai Bolton and dogs certainly won’t get that for Smith.

    • @dhenderson1810
      @dhenderson1810 10 дней назад

      Oh boo hoo.
      You didn't play Ollie Henry in your regular 22. He was kept down in the VFL yet you wanted a top ten pick.
      Either play these players in your best team or lose them. Losers like Alex Johnson were getting games ahead of him.
      Collingwood are the last team to talk about loyalty, when you pushed Treloar and Grundy out of the club to get out of paying what you owed them. Collingwood can't be trusted to honor a contract.
      How much are you offering for Dan Houston? Top ten pick or you are lowballing Port.
      Also, I invite the Bulldogs to walk Smith to the ND. Do it!
      No other club will take a risk on a guy coming off an ACL, who hasn't played well the last few seasons, who they haven't spoken too and who hasn't done a medical, doesn't want to play for them and will request a trade one year in anyway, where they will get even less (since he is a year older), when they could use that pick on a promising kid in a super draft, just to stick it up Geelong.
      No, watch instead as teams pick kids, and when it comes to our pick, we choose Bailey Smith.
      Who knows, Geelong may even do a deal with another club draft night to get higher in the draft order, to draft him sooner.
      Your club more than most knows that. You got Luke Ball that way. It worked then, and it will work now.
      But I think Bulldogs will cave and just take 17. Better than nothing. The only way they get anything from the deal is to go through us.

    • @ianscott424
      @ianscott424 10 дней назад

      More than money. Couple of problems with letting him walk to the draft.
      First of all, he gets to stipulate his conditions. This includes refusing to meet with any clubs or refusing to take a medical. This is problematic as he already has a fractured relationship with his current club, so clubs would want to meet with him to gauge his mindset before drafting him. They'd also want a medical for a bloke coming off an ACL - no club would deal with them issues.
      Secondly, if the Dogs walk him to the draft, they get nothing. They'll cut their nose of to spite their face. A first rounder, even if it's a late first, is better than nothing.
      Geelong simply hold the balance of power in this. If he gets walked to the draft he will end up Geelong anyway. If they deal in good faith, which is better for all parties involved, then Dogs will be forced to take whatever the Cats offer.
      End of the day, there will be a middle ground reached. It will be more than Geelong has on the table right now and less than the Dogs want.

      Bailey Smith been meh the last 2 years with 0 games played last season, suffered 2 ACL tears in the left and then an ACL tear to his right knee. Pick 15-20 and potentially a future 2nd or 3rd round pick is quite fair, Bulldogs don’t have a lot of options as he’s out of contract, first round pick around 20 is better than letting him go to the draft where they’ll get nothing for him and Geelong would probably get him anyway.
