  • Bit of a shock when I took this £450 reel apart to find only BRASS gears!

Ain't nothing wrong with the smooth feeling brass gears. There are many advantages of brass gears. I disagree with your assessment of that particular issue. I own two of these reels for fishing in the Gulf of Mexico and I am pleased. Tuna, dolphin, wahoo, cobia... no problem.

Who cares if it has brass gears. I hear all the other brands you’re talking about all having issues and never the Talica. All my Shimano’s have had bare minimum maintenance and I have never had any problems with any. Shimano is known as the best for a reason.

Haha right maybe the best marketers but nowhere near the best reels but keep paying out the ass for mediocre products because of the name

@@jeffsmith8958 ive seen literally a hundred marlin landed on talica reels and never seen one miss a beat. They are absolute work horses.

@@rossy2998 Word. They are superb reels. I have a Raptor and a couple of narrow (25 and 40) Torques to compare the 12 II and 25 II Talica to. They are all in the same price ball park and all do the job and if they can stand up to HST for big hoo they will stand up to just about anything you don't need an 80W for.

I think the reason why it as 45lb is because that it’s such a big reel that if you where to get haft way on the spool then it would have about double the drag it has when it’s at the top of the spool. We see the also with the Stella 30000. It has less drag then the 20000 just because the further you get down the spool the more drag is put on your fish. Hope this helped.

Mag- the Talica25ii is interesting since I am an electrical engineer. We know that raising the frequency will increase the eddy currents. Another point there are electric brakes using magnets on trains . My crazy idea is to attach a superconductor material to spool with a circular copper disk that is non-ferrous/non-magnetic , you could etch a high frequency resonator. Using cenarium cobalt magnets on outside of reel. A resonator used of simile fashion on CNC housing. Now we inject high frequency Rf into plate or antenna on cnc housing. What eddy currents do you expect .Much higher eddy current . More drag power in lbs ? I am converting old penn reel to try . Any ideas please

Biggest problem will be keeping the spool balanced

Hi there hope u doin well I'm from Cape Town South Africa. Is this shimano talica reel, the tac 25II castable, like for our type of rock n surf n beach angling here in SA, where u need to cast your line 40, 50, 70 and more metres out to where the fish presumably are? Or rather are lever drag reels castable?

What line capacity do you need, what size line (LBS) and what size is your target fish?

Biggest reel you’ve ever seen? Already your review is suspect.

At that time it was, its called experience. I was fishing with a Penn Senator 12/0 last week which is around 4 times the size of that Shimano 25.....What your excuse??? Perhaps a more polite approach would get a different reaction: Newtons third law of motion!

The Talia reals i witnessed in action, 10's and a 16 a lot smaller than the 25 took larger Yellow fin tuna no problem. Average weight 30 # largest up and around 100 with many in-between on light line. That is all they would bite. I know, I had never seen YFT line shy.

Not sure why people swear by Shimano reels all their stuff outside maybe some of their 50’s or 80’s has inferior materials! Oddly enough the rods I think are good and fairly priced but the reels I don’t understand the spinning gear is better but still not worth the price given the materials!

I took this man's word on shimanos. Bought a Talica 16ii and I was surprised! Smoothest reel I have and super powerful! The quality is pretty good too. I completely changed my mind about Shimano and am now selling my Avets and accurates to invest into all Shimano...

You can't hold 45lbs of drag so why do you need 50lbs? haha what a silly assessment.

I’m confused about why you keep bringing up the size of this reel. You keep mention Avet and other companies and their 30 class reels are the same size or even a little bigger. The spool is as big as it is for line capacity which seems to make sense. For a reel that people use for tuna and other sport fish it makes sense that you would want a significant line capacity. Also, have you heard of catastrophic failure of these brass gears or any others (when being used for the correct application)? I have heard of some bearing failure in Avet in their big game reels. Thanks in advance!

    • @jeffsmith8958
      @jeffsmith8958 5 лет назад +1

The brass simply is inferior and will not last as long and will deteriorate much faster. Avet bearings tend to run into issues when people fish them outside the drag pressure say putting 65# on an SX of 100# on a JX but in general the Avet build is superior. Better parts better machining better build. I agree the size makes no sense but perhaps he’s not an offshore guy not used to seeing 30’s-50’s and such. To me a Talica 25, whole id never spend $650 on one, fits well in my hands. Could buy an Avet HXW Raptor for less money and it’s simply better materials for a better final product.

You gotta be kidding me. Its not a big reel. Then again you dont have big fish in England.
You do have a great 3 day holiday, I think you call it summer.
