My refrigerator was a little more complicated to take apart than what you have here but this was enough for us to fix it. Thank you so much for making this video!
..Woke up to a sudden loud humming/buzzing/rattling of this unit; have no idea if it had affected the temps/functionability of fridge, but knew I couldn't live with the noise...Bought the part for about $80 and this video got me through it...Great video thank you!
Attempting to repair or side by side at church. Repairman can and looked at it, said it was the damper motor control and it wasn't worth spending 5 to 6 hummed to repair. Cam that door just be removed. I can get parts at our local wholsaler. Haven't proceed out yet. But this was a great informational video. Thank you
It's actually much easier than this video describes if you simply separate the two styrofoam pieces on the damper part. There's no reason to remove the adhered section of the damper, as it's just a vent that can be used on the new part. The spring is not attached to it. This is a 5 minute job without messing with the adhered part unnecessarily. That said, this video saved me hundreds. Thanks for the great information!
Thanks so much. Even though the model you were repairing was a totally different kenmore, I was struggling to find the write nut/screw/connector holding the defused cover in place. Because of the way it was positioned, I could not see it, and feeling it was not helping. Then you mentioned a quarter inch nut driver, and voila! Perfect!
Just changed the Damper Control, didn't take long at all. Most difficult part of it all was taking the old one out. There's a lot of glue holding the part in place once all the wires are removed. I used a heat gun to lightly heat up the glue and it came off much easier. For a guy who knows very little about repairs it was very easy with this video!! Thanks!!
Great help video, so much better than the one Repair Clinic.com has for this part. They did this in a 2 minute 49 second video. A quick repair it is, however they left out too many details that I had to discover the hard way. You did not. I wish I had found this one first. New damper control stopped the flashing 4, freezer cold again, however now the fridge is getting too cold, starting to freeze things. (Putting the ice in iceberg lettuce!) After watching this I am wondering if I did not reinstall the thermistor correctly, or I left a gap somewhere. Tomorrow I am going to take it all out and reinstall. Thank you so much for the helpful video!

So how is determined that the damper needs to be replaced? Is it a visual inspection that it's doing or not doing something that it's supposed to? I have a Kenmore Elite refrigerator in the home I just bought. It's too cold in the refrigerator. A thermometer inside shows it's always 31 degrees. I've raised the thermostat setting to it's highest number of 46 degrees but it's still always 31 degrees inside. Nothing's froze yet thankfully but it seems to be always running (I hear a fan constantly running that only ceases when opening the door) and just unnecessarily cold. Can't wait to see the first electric bill. :/
Hi Steve. I think I might have a bad damper, but how can I be sure? Here are the details: Model FRS23W3AW6. The freezer stays plenty cold, but the refrigerator side is not cooling sufficiently. I checked the evaporator coils and there is not frost so I assume defrost system is functioning correctly. Also verified that the evaporator fan runs. Even when the fan is running, I don't feel air blowing through the vents into the refrigerator. Is this definitely the damper? Or is there something else to check first?
Hi Ryan, thanks for the question! The damper is the most common part that could be causing this issue. You might want to check out this page on our website for a little more information as well: www.partselect.com/Repair/Refrigerator/Refrigerator-Too-Warm/ Thanks again and good luck with your repair!
Thanks for the reply, Steve. I used your instructions to remove the control panel and immediately heard a click and the cool air started blowing in from the freezer. Not sure what happened, but seems like just giving it a jolt may have fixed it!
I have a Frigidaire FGHD2368TF3 and I’m having issues with it again. My items in my refrigerator are freezing and I can see the vents in the back are getting iced over. The repair man already replaced the main control board which supposedly controls the damper door and the main touch panel on the refrigerator that controls the temperature and water and ice, it ran great for a week on the factory setting of 38 Fahrenheit but just yesterday my food was starting to freeze again. Not sure what is going on now?
I have Frigidaire side by side. Model # FFHS2622NW0 . both sides are not cooling. I changed the defrost thermostat hoping that it would solve the problem. but, still not cooling. everything seem to work. any help? Thanks
my refrigerator is showing when you open the door and the control temperature H1 the freezer is work perfect find the area from the Fresh Food it's not cooling enough can you please let me know what day it is
Hello, do you happen to have a video changing the damper motor assembly on the same refrigerator except with the pure source filter and water supply in the assembly? Or at least the part number for the damper motor for it? It's a Frigidaire Electrolux professional series like 2007-2008 maybe
What causes icicles to form on this damper control ours froze shut and I defrosted it with a blow dryer and it was working for a couple of days but it froze up again
My Frigidaire Gallery side by side (GLHS37EHSB5) freezer side is cold but the trap door on the damper ass'y is not opening so the fridge side gets warm. There is a 4 blinking on the control panel. (We have been having problems with our coils on the freezer side icing over and have used a blow dryer to defrost.) Would this replacement fix my fridge cooling problem?
It sounds like the defrost cycle is not functioning properly and that would give a symptom of a warmer than normal fresh food compartment. Try starting a manual defrost cycle by tripping the light switch 5 times rapidly. If the unit defrosts ok, then you may have a defective control assembly. If the unit does not defrost, then look for a defective defrost thermostat or heater. Refrigerator Repair - Replacing the Defrost Thermostat (Frigidaire Part # 5303918214). The damper assembly may also be defective or one of the sensors that control it. Refrigerator Repair - Replacing the Damper Assembly (Frigidaire Part # 241600906)
Hello, my refrigerator water " filter" keep freezing, first I thought someone didn't know how to remove the water filter and broke it, second time same thing it freezes the filter and cracked the filter cover, the third time is the same and cracked the filter cover do (push in lock & push unlock) you have any ideas why sir? the model #LPUS2686LFO.
turn your cold control highest setting if that don't do it probably gone be either the cold control or you got the ice box capillary tube too close to the damper where the wind from the freezer is hitting it
I have a FFSS2314QE. THE FREEZER IS WORKING PERFECT, THE FRIGE ISNT. THE DISPLAY INSIDE KEEPS CHANGING TO FLASHING H I. I KEEP RESETTING IT AND IT GOES BACK. not getting cold at all
There should be a trouble shooting guide for you model that is located behind the kick plate or rear access panel. It could be the damper is not functioning or the evaporator fan motor is malfunctioning, or your may have a defrost issue. A solid H1 in the display usually indicates a high fresh food compartment temperature which you have confirmed. The trouble shooting guide will instruct you on how to isolate the problem.

Thank you for this video!! My husband and I just completed a "socially distant" repair on our fridge thanks to this video. I feel like a rock star!
Great to hear that we were able to help you while you were social distancing! Thanks for watching!

I replaced my damper too and the fridge isn’t getting as cool. Did you figure out how to resolving the cooling issue?
Great video! We were able to replace the damper assembly and get our fridge working properly again in less than an hour. Thanks!
Great video... was stuck trying to get the housing unit out when I found this video... worked like a charm!!! :) I really appreciate it!
AWESOME! Thanks for the video! I replaced the damper today!
If the damper is faulty would that prevent the automatic defrost system from working?

Hi
How do you test the damper assy, to make sure that is what needs to be replaced?
Thanks for the help Great video
The fridge will tell you, with an error code blinking 4 for example, if the damper fails the power on self test.

Can confirm, this worked!

not sure if this is what I need to fix. My freezer is cold but my fridge side is not. Do you think the Damer motor is blown? Thanks for you help!
***** I would need the model number to properly diagnose your problem.
Appreciate the help however we are having trouble removing the control housing wire harness at the top. Any ideas?
Thank you
Jaynitah Larochelle There are locking tabs that keep the connectors attached. Squeeze the tabs and the harness connectors should separate.
Great video Steve, appreciate your efforts Buddy. Love the accent.
Thank you
You can fix anything! U R Cool
Thanks Patricia!
I look with my wire cam. Its frozen in there. What I got to do?
The camera panned out to see the back of you right at the point when I needed to see what you were doing.
What causes icicles to form on this damper control ours froze shut and I defrosted it with a blow dryer and it was working for a couple of days but it froze up again
Cody Harris What model number is your fridge?
(My guess) is that you are storing open liquids in your refrig; all items/ containers/ especially liquids should be covered/ capped.
Mine too. Trying to find a way to fix. Blowdry huh.
