You can tell original Wire fans from new fans by how they identify Aiden Gillan. Us old fans saw him as Tommy Carcetti first, so that's how I always remember him. Don't matter how good he was as Littlefinger, that will always be Tommy C. to me.
This 😂 I was surprised af seeing him on GoT back when it first started airing. While absolutely very good in both roles I always give his performance as Carcetti more applause. Carcetti is basically a character that's left for the viewer's interpretation and that 's largely successful to Aiden's acting.
He'll always be Carcetti to me... Shame his film career is so meh. Incredible actor in just about every series he's in but I haven't seen his real talent translate in film
Always enjoyed the contradiction in that scene when Stringer gets angry. He's talking about business and moving on from that old school mentality, but when he's challenged it's straight back to aggression and intimidation. Hard to let that stuff go.
After the Wire you should watch “The Corner” and “We Own This City” both by David Simon and both just six episodes. The Corner was the precursor/inspiration for the Wire. We Own This City came out a few years ago, takes place in Baltimore in the 2010’s and is about a corrupt police unit, also a true story. Both series have many actors from the Wire.
Yes to The Corner, no to WOTC. The Wire was a hard watch but it has a natural humor to it that made it easier to digest. With WOTC you can feel the relentless hatred from the writers. It's excellent but wouldn't be a fun show for me to watch someone react to, especially not sweet Frank
Season 3 is considered the second best season. Can't wait till the get to season 4, which is not only the best season of the wire but might be the best season in tv history imo!!
I think we all jus waiting for Frank to get there because not only is IT the best season but because it's only the best season because of all that leads up to it all that we learn about the structures that creates these problems thus why it's such a gut punch 😢
Cutty is (or was) a very common nickname for anyone you spent time with at the Maryland State Penitentiary, also referred to as the Cut. Watch the character's relationship with that name change over the next three seasons.
I just know you're going to love Bunny! Season 2 is my favorite season because of my polish ancestry, but Bunny's storyline and it's impact on the rest of the series... chef's kiss.
Among all the brilliant things that this season provides Hamsterdam is the standout plot for me. Just so original and unique especially for a "cop show". Watching this back in real time was truly quite an experience. It just sucked to barely have anyone to talk about it with 😂 Well back then anyway.
Fun fact, the actor playing lieutenant Mello (Colvin's right hand) is actually named Jay C. Landsman and he's a retired cop. That's how you build a world on screen !
idk if anyone said it but the whole "cole stairmaster" was there way to tribute the actor. He passed while filming and this was there way to "end" his character in the show.
That Deacon, the church man who was talking to Bunny in eps 2 saying the drug war is rsking leaves on a windy day. He was Little Melvin, a real-life inspiration for Avon Barksdale's character.
@@FrankFreezy_ many of the characters in the show are composites of real people David Simon and Ed Burns knew from their time as crime reporter and homicide cop respectively. And the opposite also happens and a lot of real people also find their way into the show. Some more examples are to come this very season, but remember Brother Mouzone's bodyguard? The actor who played him was named DeAndre McCullough, and his real life story is the primary focus of David Simon's previous show, The Corner. He was the son of drug addicts and became a drug dealer himself growing up. It's also a great show to watch, focusing more on the street side of things, but it uses a lot of the cast of the wire, only with roles reversed. Everyone you see playing a cop on the wire, played a drug dealer or a drug addict in the Corner and vice versa.
One thing to also help you frame thos season, it can definitely be read as a metaphor on the invasion of iraq, there's a lotnof subtle and unsubtle references, not least of wihich, the fall of the towers setting things in motion.
@@norwegianblue2017 Right. Even the "lesser" applauded seasons 2 and 5 have their fans and are still top tier seasons of television in their own right. 2 in particular.

even though season 4 is my personal favorite, season 3 is a CLOSE second. some days, i'd even consider them a tie for me tbh so i don't blame you at all!
I think S4 is a lot of people's favorite because it really hit home for a lot of us, myself included. But S3 is top to bottom the best season of the show imo
Huh… in E1 when Daniel’s’ wife is introducing him to her team (26:10), Daniels doesn’t put out his hand to shake Watkins’ until Watkins does… kind interested in the significance of that..? Respect..?
Good observation, about the successful people in the game having advisors. Joe is old enough that I think he is kind of like Butchie, but he doesn't have the right person to impart his wisdom to. Cheese is supposed to be that, but he isn't the learning type.
i feel like kima can’t connect with the kid because it just isn’t hers biologically. her girl is the one who carried it thru the pregnancy and you could already see kima struggling to be enthusiastic about it so i think even moreso now she just doesn’t have that love or connection with it
I’m sure others have said, but at the end of season 2 you said the Wire keeps getting better… you’re in for a ride. People consider season 2 the worst and seasons 3 and 4 to be the best.
Naaahhh Ltd. Definetly is seperated so he did not cheat. But everybody else? Definetly. It's atrocious. I think it's probavly a concious choice because cops are statistically up there when cheating is considered. I read that somewhere but can't remember where.

Great analysis never thought ab it this way
The police chief meeting where Bunny asks "how do you make a body dissapear" has some interesting echoes in the next season.
Ah, the humanity. The Wire shows it like no other. Gets right in there, from one viewpoint to another, the dirt and the beauty.
It does it so effortless too

We Own This City had its moments, but its no Wire unfortunately. The Corner is depressing as hell though and idk if we should put Frank through that 😂
