A true masterpiece....beautifully, lovingly performed (the soprano is spot-on in everything she sings). About 20 years ago, Zubin Mehta conducted this work with the Chicago Symphony (1st-half of the concert; 2nd half= the Bruckner 4th!!?). I had the honor of interviewing George Crumb in a pre-concert talk. A pretty reticent, modest guy, whom I soon realized was not really "into" discussing the music in great depth and detail; great creators rarely do that. Being a composer/creature of the "late-hippie" era (as I called it) myself, I attempted to tell the audience (and composer) just how IMMENSELY influential his music was on so many of us back then. I then warned him that my next question might be a bit silly and "starry-eyed", but I nonetheless asked if he recalled the time, the situation, and the inspiration of using the Bach song (toy piano) mixed with the dark, "sweltering", funereal sounds of marimba tremolo, "u-e-a-u-e-a" humming in the percussionists' voices, and harmonica (all C# Major triad), to depict the midday death of a child in Granada in song #IV. I had just hoped for a tiny bit of insight into one of the great imaginative voices of the 20th-century..from the MAN HIMSELF. But he didn't have much to say in response. Probably better that way. LR
Thank you for your message and for sharing your story and experience with us!
in these dark days of the pandemic we need more of this 24/7.
É assombrosa a criatividade de Crumb. Belíssima obra contemporânea, das maiores que ouvi. Parabéns à SWR e intérpretes.
Thank you!
I first heard this work about 50 years ago and found it fascinating. To this day I feel the same way about it. And in spite of all the music I've heard in a half-century I still find it unique.
Stunning performance of this beautiful, evocative work
That's a great performance of, and live recording of, one of my favourite pieces by Crumb. Well done to all involved!
Fantastic version of this gorgeous masterpiece!
Thank you!
Amazing !!!!
beautifullissimo!!!🎹😊
Мистерия голоса и звука, проходящая сквозь времена.... погружение в состояние невидимой силы...
Спасибо за исполнение!!! Невероятно красиво!!!
I had thought for quite a while that I wasn't as enthusiastic about this work as I used to be. But this video has changed that. I'm loving it again.
Thank you for your comment! We are very pleased that we were able to change your impression!

Эффектно!
a "new world" 🎹😊
Pretty ultimate stuff. One of my favorite pieces by The Meastro Crumb. Probably the greatest composer of our time.
Such great video and audio capture of a fantastic performance!
シャープでかつ多層的な世界がクルレンツィスのもつ緊張感と相まって強い命を宿す。
So good performance!!!!
This is excellent in every aspect!
Do produce more contemporary music with the maestro and with Christoph Grund! It is very important to do so.
Soprano singing into piano strings produces acoustic aura.
Beautifully composed and performed, it must be very difficult to sing this.
Great performance
Excellent production and performance. Please, please, pretty please, perform and record the Madrigals as well.
Thank you also for this tip!
quite good...
🧡
There’s nobody like g crumb
Could it be helpful to know the texts they are singing?
Seychas eto vosprinimaetsja kak by v "porjadke veshey",chto Teo ispolnjaet pjesy avangardnyh avtorov narjadu s "meynstrimon",odnako vplot' do nedavnego vremeni eto ne javljalos' otlichitel'noy osobennost'ju rossijskih ispolniteley!
Neopagan guff! Discordant, banal and cliched.
If you dislike contemporary music, why do you try to listen to it? But democracy allows us all to ridicule ourselves. In this, you did a perfect job.
I’ll never understand people that are so angry they go out of their way to try putting down art they don’t like.
Lorca’s texts are pagan? That is a new one on me.
