This is the fifth part of my McLaren Honda Mp4/4 build in 1/20 from Tamiya. This video focuses on assembling the front and rear wings, the wheels and tyres as well as a 1/20 scale Senna figure.
Look out for the new "Do you know..." captions during the video.
The McLaren MP4/4, also known as the McLaren-Honda MP4/4, is one of the most successful Formula One car designs of all time. Driven by teammates Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna, the car competed during the 1988 Formula One season. It was designed by American engineer Steve Nichols, the full responsibility for the design of the car having been conferred on him by Ron Dennis. Gordon Murray, as Technical Director, subsequently confirmed this in an internal memo allocating responsibilities for the design department, nominating Nichols as chief designer for the car, and giving himself the role of liaising between the drawing office and production.

So what was I doing wrong with the stencils? I would like to try again at some point possibly.
Maybe try usin ur fingers to hold the stencil flush to the tyre while wearing rubber glove so keep paint from gettin on ur hand or fingers do one side at a time good then year after good drys
That's a good idea, thanks! I wish I had some spares to practice on but these are the only 1/20 F1 tyres I have!
I have found that paint can, while doing an amazing job at body color, is pretty tough to do detail work. Just too much paint comes out and you have no control over the pressure and paint flow. I have not used these types of stencils but I have done tape work with a can and it almost never comes out how you want. Just too much paint coming out at a time. I do find distance helps a lot with cans and maybe if you tried the stencil while holding the car further, it may turn out better with several very thin coats.
@@ScaleAutoGarage yeah that was my thinking too. I would like to try them again but after 4 failures I threw in the towel! 😂
@@BOABModels also if u have liguid mask stuff u put tin bit aroun the back the stencils while marker paint if u have paint pen be perfect
You're doing a great job Thomas!
Thanks Shawn! The finish line is close! 😂
Your model is coming together nicely!!
Thanks Rob! I will probably finish it this week.
Brilliant idea with the visor! Maybe use a stiff, mostly dry brush with a downward stippling motion for the tires?
Cheers Joe. Yeah, that's a possible solution. I want to get them right sometime.
Great video!!! Nice Work!!! I'll be watching
Cheers Mike. Thanks for watching! 👍
Shame about the stencil but that driver figure looks great. I find a touch of brown panel liner over the skin does help bring out some of the face detail.
Thanks, Spencer. I meant to do something like that and only remembered once the visor was in place! 😂
Great kit iv had it in my hand b4 the lock down but for some reason i taut the pic looked like it was toy but on ur box art looks like its real deal so im thinking it might been rereleasd box art or something but i wanna get it now look good looks like a awsome kit 👍
Yeah, Tamiya re released some McLaren kits in black boxes - is that how it looked?
Spray at a lower pressure.. if you're using spray cans I'm afraid you are out of luck. Just remember lower your pressure, and don't flood the paint light coats.
Thanks, Richard. Yeah, when I've seen people get it work they are using an airbrush. I do hope to upgrade to one eventually.
👍👍👍
Thanks a lot! 👍
