It's already been said, but this custom G.I. Tanto stands alone compared to all the others. Truly a fine display of craftsmanship and artistry. Love how you shortened the grip, made the proportions of the blade far more pleasing. This video serves as motivation to do my own custom job, been toying with the idea of turning a G.I. Tanto into a modern Seax style survival knife.
Geat video! Thank you for sharing. However, I do not like how the knife turned out. I prefer the original Tanto GI version in black with the stock handle! I have had this knife in the original version for 20 years,. I have used it in military combat and survival purposes overseas. It has never let me down! Amazing knife!
Cut both hand gaurd nubs off leaving the tang completely straight remove scales. Move scales forward as much as you can mark redrill holes reinstall scales. Cut of 1.5" off the back end. Makes it a totally different feel and I really like the size.
Pretty good , except I'd personally have left the finger guards and covered the edge in some sort of tape while working with the handle , just because accidents can happen , other than that , it's amazing
Wow way to take a knife and make it your own!! Looks like completely different knife great job!!! I would have kept bottom finger guard and tried to round it out a bit just my 2cents
I'm 100% sure you specifically should have designed the G.i ... Just incredible, thanks for showing us you SUPER work. Do you do custom mods for money, if so put a contact link, I'm game!
Hey man how did you get the shitty plastic scales off? I’m trying to make some custom ones for it, and I can’t figure out if it’s some kind of hex head or what?
What did you do about the finish? You took off the factory coating and didn't replace it with something (at least in the video you didn't). What about rust? That bare steel will rust easily, especially if you are actually going to be using it. Did you ever give it a patina or something?
Irwin Torres it would rust if you left it out in the rain for a week but like most things you have to look after them. It's not hard to clean the blade and give it a wipe of oil now and again after use
Ok...I was just wondering. I have seen some pretty cool patina designs people have done on the GI Tanto. Just wondering what you did to protect the blade. Also, the blade says China...I thought the GI Tanto was made in Taiwan?
Irwin Torres as far as I'm aware they are made in China, I just checked the website and it does say "country of origin, china" I thought about blueing it but I prefer the way it looks plain but I have got a bluing kit I will be testing in future videos
Irwin Torres They were originally made in Taiwan but they must have found cheaper production cost in China. I have one of both and on such a plain knife with a matte black finish on my China G.I. there's tiny pin divits or compressed tool marks I'm not sure what they are. The one from Taiwan is perfect.
Cool Video 👍 Thank U for the Info 👍 The polish look is amazing and without the fingerguard on the top its better for carving will try it too U got a new subscriber....
Cool mod but it's not an effective survival knife anymore in my opinion... I prefer the look before with maybe custom wood grips would be all I would mod.
thats the beauty of making something how you want it, for me i like it like that but it may be too short for you. it is always down to personal preference
Hands down, the (BEST) GI Tanto mod till date. Good job my Bladed Brother. Carry on!!!
I agree 👍 my friend
Fantastic. The knife looks amazing 👏 😊

Excellent, is an understatement!!!
@1:19 at about this point in the video you have the perfect throwing knife I'm gonna buy one of these and do just those steps to it
Nice work! I have one of these too and I also polished all the finish off and am about to give it a nice forced patina with mustard lol
the end result is so beautiful!

Absolutely gorgeous. Sorta "Tactical Bushcrafty".

What's those things called to hold the scales on the blade?
You did a good job looks sweet.
Now it is a perfect for no spin throwing
