Ive done intermittent fasting for like 5 months and its so easy to lose and maintain weight. I use 18/6 usually and i can eat pizza or burgers and a few beers sometimes and it doesnt raise my weight. Now ive done couple of full day fasts and i can train just as well, its all from the mind that u cant train without food. Cardio, grappling etc is easy even after a full day of fasting. Hunger is just a feeling!

This is AWESOME! I am type 2 and I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease. All of which are in normal range now because of meds. I’m 43 and I started Jiu jitsu a month ago to get healthier and one hr kicks my but. I’m fat from 30 years of bad decisions. That last visit I had with the Dr I see for my diabetes told me not to eat if I’m not hungry and of coarse I still try to eat three meals a day cause you know. 30 years of habit. This video seriously made things they have been saying finally click. Thank you so much for taking the time to share on so many topics but especially this one.

I don’t even do jiu jutsu but I watch this channel regularly. Before a fast eat a decent bowl of oatmeal and drink a protein shake with mixed berries, cinnamon, flax seed,Maca powder and a milk of your choice. Guarantee you’ll be full for the day or two. I learned this from fasting because of religion. Stay hydrated and you’ll be good

@@KamaJiuJitsu Meat is full or cortisol, which is a stress hormone.
It may just be how normalized meat consumption is (thus a larger cohort); but generally I find meat eaters make more fear based decisions and are more open to suggestion. Known a few new age crystal types who went vegan as a fad diet without really considering how they were going to get the proper nutrients and both cases they went back to eating meat which lends a little credence to the idea that societal norms get established as a feedback loop among more herd-minded subjects rather than being detrimental/beneficial per se. Alternatively, there are a lot more vegans among natural bodybuilders than there ought to be given the sample size relative to the general population if the benefits were all moral/in the person's head.
Anyways, no judgement. Everybody's got their own life and their own choices to make.

Patrick Goebel according to Cole Robinson the Creator of the Snake Diet, there are several studies that show that dry fasting helps heel the body faster than water fasting. I just wanted to see what it felt like to do it and also you'll cut more fat faster. Water fasting is good though, and it helps to add some Himalayan pink salt to keep your sodium levels up. This will help you keep up your energy levels up and avoid dizzy spells.

So sorry about your mom. Cancer took my mother also. I totally agree with the information you present on this video! I also do daily intermittent fasting, and have for over thirty years. All the recent research is very supportive of this lifestyle. A professor at our university, Steve Anton PhD, is a recognized authority on this and also a good friend of mine. I eat moderate carb, but with my high level of exercise I also am very adapted to burning fat. Steve says I have a flexible metabolism, and maintain a low level of body fat. Best!
PS: I think the body will use up the available glycogen in 12 hours of fasting or sooner with a high activity level and move to a ketogenic state.

My friend did more than 30 days fasting (drinking only water). He didn't die :). He said the last few days became unhealthy and the first few days were tough but otherwise he said he felt fine. He was overweight became normal. There's an Amazon video called the science of fasting which is nice. Also Dr. Daniel (David?) Fung has RUclips videos about it. I tried it twice intending multiple days but I lost my nerve. I've fasted during daylight (no food no water) and I've fasted for 24 hours water only on two occasions, but not more than 24 hours. I'm on the Gracie diet which I modified twice, once to remove raw foods and again to integrate another doctors advice and avoid some other foods.
I read a book by a doctor which said eaten fats are converted to body fat quickly.

the marathon runners of kenya have a 80/10/10 diet, which is 80 percent carbs. They drink ALOT of refined sugars because they burn it off so fast. Your diet depends alot on your activity. Carbs and healthy fat (omega 3) are very important for training. Everyone is always about the protein, but eat what you need for your activity is my best advice. (ie. body bulding needs more protein, running needs more carbs, martial arts needs a balance of all 3)

My cholesterol is still high, but it’s inching in the right direction. Hoping for better numbers on my next blood test in a few months. Don’t worry about the cholesterol number. There’s a test you can do to examine the plaque build up in your arteries to see if you’re actually at risk for clogged arteries. Mine came back at 0% blockage with a cholesterol of around 250. Doc was concerned before test. No longer. Also did one on the carotid area 5 yrs earlier. Nothing then, as well.

I am usually drinking a lot of water some chocolate milk with half a bottle of Starbucks mocha fav, with a big squirt of Hershey's every four to five day's, No regular coffee tho. I've been out of the gym for a lot of years gain a ton of weight, little chocolate candy's don't help lol But I was at 315 at one point went down to 271 while doing heavy squats 5x5. Then Covid hit back to 300 I'm going to try fasting for the rest of 2021 off an on. And see if I can get my weight back down. Maybe a little push up and bodyweight squats, ab exercises too. Fiber slows the uptake of fructose v if you had a Frappuccino with tons of raw sugar. One meal a day is feasible. I heard if you eat late and sleep. Your body isn't really resting bc it is digest. I to eat late and have bad sleep. I was only able to water fast for 8 days. Super hard in day 2.5 n 3. Body is in transition to ketosis. If you're considering fasting then check out Loren Lockman's videos on this topic first - fasting is very easy when done right, and very difficult when doing just a small thing wrong. For example - if you consume anything else than water then you are not fasting because anything else than water activates the digestive system which takes away most of the benefits of the fast.

One little thing: while it is true that your body can produce glucose, that doesn't mean you don't need to take in any sugar / carbs at all. The production of glucose creates side products, which at certain concentrations can poison your body. For example: in extreme cases of ketogenic dieting, ketosis can lead to ketoacidosis, which is a life-threatening condition. So, while most people nowadays consume too much sugar and could do with less, keeping your diet *balanced* is ultimately the key to being healthy.

when bodyparts break, it's often the body telling us to 1) ease UP some (too much stress of late), or 2) ease IN your the pressure/torque in your training regimen. i've seen a LOT of rib injuries. if you limit the "twist" in your body mechanics, you'll eliminate most of the environments in which they can occur.

Great explanation on fasting, Ryan. Love your videos. Just want to submit a few things.
Fasting is great for many many issues but a long term state of ketosis i.e. 5 days should be monitored by health professionals. This is because ketosis is not the body's natural state, and has long term consequences not often discussed. The body's primary source of fuel is glycogen, and to run in ketosis (running on fat) is to run in an emergency metabolic state.
Also, since glycogen is the body's primary source of fuel, the body should always have glycogen when not fasting (keep the fridge and only the fridge full at all times). This also goes with the following correction. Diabetes isn't caused by sugar, it's caused by intramyo cellular lipids (fat in your cells). It's just that the sugar allows for the build up of the fat you intake. This is why fruit is actually good and fat is bad. Hence the Gracie's not being particularly diabetic. I'm guessing your fasting helped with your lack of being prediabetic.
    Hope this helps!

Who says glycogen is the primary fuel source? If you eat a ton of carbs, sure, but that doesn't mean it is the "natural" or "normal" state. Your body can make unlimited amounts of glycogen, it is a myth that if you fast or don't pound carbs you won't have glycogen. There are plenty of long distance athletes that run over 100 miles on a high fat low carb diet and they have all the glycogen they need. I would say that overflowing glycogen reserves and fatty liver are the emergency state, not the normal state. By the way, type 2 diabetes is insulin resistance. You get insulin resistance from having too much insulin flowing through your veins. You get too much insulin by eating too much sugar, so yes, diabetes is caused by sugar. Fat is a necessary nutrient, sugar is not, fruit is not.

Bob Wilson Came in to say the same thing. You beat me to it. Glycogen is only the the primary source of fuel in people that eat way to many carbs. Their body has a diminished ability to burn fat.
As to the other posters contention that being in ketosis for extended periods is bad, there is no proof of that whatsoever. There are tons of people that have been on very low carb diets for years or even decades with no apparent ill effects. They have high energy, low body fat, don’t have diabetes and have amazing calcium scores for their heart.
Speaking for myself, I took up BJJ in my mid twenties. I trained six days a week and ate whatever I wanted. Lots of carbs. I got all the way down to 148 pounds, but I was still carrying fat around my gut. Still no abs.
Fast forward 20 years and I was nearing 50 years old. I had ballooned up to 215 pounds. I went on a low carb KETO diet that included fasts of 16-20 hours. In six months, I lost 50 pounds, gained muscle, got stronger and didn’t have energy lows like I used to. Calcium score of zero. Got off heartburn meds. Sinuses cleared up. Skin rashes gone. Abs are showing through for the first time in my life. All by eating a diet high in animal fat and protein. I don’t care what kind of shady “research” the high carb proponents come out with; no one will ever convince me to go back to a high carb diet.

I'm newly diabetic type 2. Tying to beat my diabetes through diet and intermitten fasting. According to Dr. Jason Fung diabetes is not caused by sugar/glucose but caused by insulin. Insulin is the problem. Type 2 diabetics are producing Insulin but their Insulin are no longer processing glucose well. Too much Insulin causes weight gain.

i don't have my own kids fast, although if they miss a meal here or there because of time constraints, i don't sweat it, and just make sure they eat more when they do have time to eat.

Good video, but Angus Barbieri died age 51, not 94. Fasting for 382 days in a row might not be the jitsu to get to 90 years old, although intermittent fasting might help you there.

You’re right. He died in 1990. That’s the “90” I remembered… thought it was his age. Nope, it was the year he died. But he did live well for 20+ years after doing the fast. Had he not done it, he would likely have died decades earlier than he did.

In my fast this week, I’m using Himalayan salt. Ran out of sea salt the last time I fasted. Just don’t use that Morton’s crap.

You're not a tall guy, from what you've said before you are short. The reason I say this is because the skinfold calipers don't take height into account. Therefore you have much less bf% than 18%
