I'm in Virgina Beach, VA. I just restored my 2002 p38. I drive it everyday. I haven't seen one on the road in my area in a few years. I'm always excited when I see someone driving one.

That’s awesome! I can’t say I’ve seen any on the road in my area either. Do you have any photos of it on Instagram?

Sunroof not set means you need to program it. Normally when the battery is diaconnected, all windows and sunroof need to be programed so the one touch open/close works. You do this by opening and closing windows all the way without letting go of the button. On the sunroof you need to open and close all the way without letting go of the button and the tilt open and close also without letting go of the button. Hope it helps

Nice one! I am three quarters of the way through my 2001 restoration project for my 4.6 Vogue. Good luck.

It looks like a nice looking car! I have taken over a 96 P38, which has had the air suspension removed. I have just come across a 97 P38 with air suspension failure, and the facelift to the newer Rang Rover. It's probably a pure bastard, so it will be interesting to see how it's been executed. Fun to follow Kanalel who fixes up and uses older 4x4s! Started following your channel now :)

I have the same P38 (Spec, engine and year) in the UK. These faults you mention pretty much mirror mine. They are very common and all can be fixed relatively cheaply. I have just had the headlining done for just under £200. My transfer case whines a little, and the rocker covers leak oil.....she still starts and drives very well.

Like this post and the car looks in pretty good condition for its age. I did own one of these for about six years and very sorry I traded it in. My advice to you is to buy a decent code reader that will read codes and clear all codes correctly. Clear all codes and see what comes up afterwards, address the codes that come up. Faulty wheel speed sensors will cause all kinds of problems throughout the car and this is probably why its on springs now! This car may have had a faulty wheel speed sensor and the air suspension reacted to it. Great post and looks like a great car to honest. Spend a few hundred pounds on a decent code reader and it will save you thousands, also your hair/mind. Take care. Stu

I heard you say something about noise coming from the transfer case. depending on when you're hearing noise you might need a to replace the chain inside, they begin to stretch after 100,000 miles and when this happens the chain jumps the gears and you get noise durning early acceleration. especially if its from take off quickly.

Make sure you fully press the trigger on the selector when you move it over to low as it has 2 stages the first stage will let you select gears in Hi and if you fully press it up it allow you to go over to low also I do highly recommend going back air suspension If the hardware is still there they ride like dream on it and it has gotten me unstuck of the road a few times

The reason that its not comfortable to drive is because you have springs, switch it back to air bags and it will be the most comfortable vehicle you have ever driven. Don't be afraid of air springs, I renewed mine 9 years ago, along with the pump and have had no problems with it. Do you still have the valve block and pump in the EAS box ? The ABS fault will only be a sensor, find out what one it is and change it. If it goes again, change the ABS ECU behind the glove box. I had this problem with mine. Good Luck.

Totally boring. Go stupid to make it break, opposite lock then power in. Straight as a gun barrel. Viscous coupling in the transfer box is ahead of you desire to have fun.

Question, on my 02 p38 it has a small turn knob under the dash on the lower left just above the foot rest. Any idea of what it is for ? does your have that knob?

Don't worry about head gaskets, it's an easy job compared to what these other so called reliable cars have to go through....such as timing chains, lifters, valves, bearings....etc....

This car has the Thor engine, nothing to do with Buick. That was the GEMS (mine is a GEMS) engine and before. The one you have is the best 1. In the UK people buy these Thor P38's just to get hold of the engine and chuck the rest of the car in the bin.
The windows need a reset when the battery has been disconnected and is well easy....... loads of RUclips vidz on it.

Shame the US cars have those ugly amber reflectors incorporated into the front indicator lenses. The later Euro cars have fully clear lenses which look much nicer I think...
Never heard about this engine being famous for failing head gaskets?
