Fleetwood Mac. Sisters Of The Moon live video. Have to see that guys. When she freaks out and speaks in tongues and starts crying. Unbelievable. Some of the best rock footage I've ever seen.
For anyone wondering, the woman doing the introduction was Helen Reddy, a really big artist in the 70s: I am Woman (hear me roar...), Delta Dawn, Angie Baby, You and Me Against the World, etc. Not A&A's cup of tea, but definitely of the time. Very cool hearing this version of Rhiannon, caught some lyrics I've never been able to figure out before. (Yes, I know I could have looked them up, just haven't taken the time to do so.😉)
Aussie, hence the pronunciation of “debuted”. Gotta pushback on whether Reddy is A&A material. She sold a ton of records. “I Am Woman” is a solid feminist anthem. A&A havedone other singer songwriters. Her voice & phrasing are plus. And there’s a live version of I Am Woman with a little more oomph than the studio version: ruclips.net/video/Fr1ObOl7DVw/видео.html
The lyric, "Once in a million years, a woman like her, rises," is only on the live version. I'm pretty sure in the studio version she repeats the second have of the lyric from the previous verse, "All your life, you've never seen, woman taken by the wind."
Guys, if you want to hear (but not see, since there’s no video) one of the most astonishing guitar solos ever recorded, listen to “I’m So Afraid” from the 1980 album Fleetwood Mac Live. Lindsey plays like a man possessed. Every time I listen to it, I get chills. I have to go lie down afterward.
@@kennelson6055 Yeah, the solo in that video is excellent, but I think it's missing the fire and passion of the 1980 version. It's a bit tame in comparison.
100% Agreed. I get the chills on that track too! This captured a great moment as well .. I'm So Afraid Live '76 Rosbud ruclips.net/video/v5kOzGwsHXw/видео.html
I totally agree, Greg . No member or era got left out of that concert, even though it leaves a ton of great songs to be discovered elsewhere. If I'm not mistaken, that was the event that kind of kick-started the trend of classic rock acts coming back for reunions, too. Major impact. Great audio and video quality in the movie. A gem.
@@shaunstuart4623 The thing that really blows my mind now is that it's been more years since The Dance came out than it was between FM's break-up and reunion. Makes me feel so ~old~ 👴
Plus, The Dance has the definitive version of "Silver Springs". For that song, you have to see the video. If Andy & Alex were to do that one, I would recommend reading the backstory of that song to better understand what is happening during the performance.
@@shaunstuart4623 - Eagles did it first in late '94 with "Hell Freezes Over". FM's "The Dance" was in late summer '97. Both shows were performed/filmed in the same venue, so FM were definitely inspired by Eagles! Both of those concerts are fricken' AWSOME! 🙂
I'm listening to music over 60 years this is one of the greatest performances ever? Stevie is one of the greatest singers ever. She was inducted twice into R & R Hall of Fame once with F. Mac other as a soloist.
So, if you're going to do Fleetwood Mac of this era, you really should do one of the songs in which Christine McVie sings the lead. You Make Loving Fun, or Say You Love Me, or Over My Head, would all be good choices. In my opinion, Christine M was the better voice of the two, as well as being a fantastic songwriter.
Absolutely, but Stevie was the cute little sex kitten so she got the press. In my opinion (and I am a big Fleetwood Mac fan going back to when Rhiannon was new), You Make Loving Fun is criminally underrated and overlooked, and also my favorite from their catalog (which is saying something). You just can't beat the groove on that song.
@@oboogie2 Amen! I'm not a Stevie Nicks fan. I dislike her hyper vibrato, which I think frequently hides poor pitch (like on this song, where she is often flat). I'll grant her that she's a good song writer. But I consider her third best vocalist in this band, after Christine McVie (1) and Lindsey Buckingham (3). The adulation for Nicks has always mystified me. As you point out, I've always suspected it was superficial: sexualized appearance and treatment of the press.
@@David-iv6je No, it's because she was a tremendous performer. I appreciate the McVie love, I love her too! But please don't denigrate those of us who love Stevie Nicks as superficial.
There are other versions of this live, that knock seven bells out of this tv live performance. Dig out actual live in concert footage and you will see. Also you need to hear their Live album from 1980. It's recently been re-released remastered with 15 extra tracks of an original 18 track release.....32 live tracks + 1 studio remix.....& "Rhiannon is incredible !!!!! There is another track from this same live album - "I'm So Afraid" that will give you chills down your spine....The lyrics are heartbreaking, but the guitar solo will emotionally tear you apart ! [ you have been warned ]
I saw them at a college gym in Johnstown, PA right after this album was released. Got to meet and talk with Christine and Stevie before the show. Quite an experience!
Some great live performances have more emotion and drive than studio versions, technical and artistic anomalies are pure perfection to me because it's all about feeling that moment.
Highly recommend the Eagles' "Hotel California" live 1977 from the Capital Centre as the next live video reaction. The rare Eagles song/video that doesn't get blocked on the 'Tube. One of the best ever live performances of a classic rock song imho. Also, A&A can see Don Felder's contribution to the group -- rather than attributing all of their lead guitar work to Joe Walsh.
Agree! That’s where I was lucky enough to see most bands who were killing it in the 70’s and early 80’s. Did you go there too? Ticket prices even for multi-band events were often less than $10 or $20 and some were $1.01 thanks to DC101 (radio station) and for top bands, too. Now one ticket to an auto tune concert is hundreds of dollars. I might be old, but I was around when all music was real and for that I’m grateful.
The Midnight Special was a great show. Really good sound reproduction (for TV) and it was clear the bands thought it was a big deal and wanted to give great performances. And they would often break from the studio recording of a song, which is a big risk, because this show essentially was promotion for these bands and their records.
Love. Love this. Hold on Andy & Alex! This is gonna be an entirely different musical experience than the recorded version. Great way to end the week! Omg... Yay! Have a great weekend fellas! 🙌💖✌️😊 ps... had a blast in chat!! 👍😉
No question "The Dance" is one of the best live concerts recordings ever. For another completely different sound from Fleetwood Mac watch "TUSK" featuring the USC Trojans Marching Band (yea bandies). Saw FM live and seeing the pure unadulterated joy on Mick's face was the highlight for me.
I never had the pleasure of seeing FM live, one of the few favorites I missed. They played nearby a few years back, but ticket prices were prohibitive 🙁. I recently read that Lindsey was so obsessed with perfection on The Dance, that, while mixing/producing, he actually used auto-tune on some songs. This was a little disappointing to me. The talent they possess needs no help in my opinion.
An amazing live track by Fleetwood Mac is the song "Silver Springs" from their live album "The Dance." There is a video of this performance, as well. It's all incredibly good.
As far as live performances go, this is one of my top favorites, second only to Queen's "Somebody to Love" Live in Montreal 1981. If you want to see Lindsey go to town on the guitar, see their live version from their "The Dance" concert of his, "You Can Go Your Own Way". It's phenomenal.
Having seen them in concert during the seventies, I really appreciate the differences between studio and live. They created totally different vibes and the concerts were amazing. They did not try to recreate the studio sound until the Dance.
I wish they still had shows like Midnight Special that showcased popular rock and pop groups. I used to love that show. BTW I think this is the best recorded version of this song ever.
I was 18, and falling in love for the first time, when this song came out. Because of its magical feel, it became a kind of early anthem for falling in love, for me. It still feels fresh, and moving, 45 later.
Thanks A&A - you both make salient points about this song live. Don't be afraid of more live tunes, try 1978's Some Enchanted Evening from Blue Oyster Cult (best version of "Astronomy")
Superior live version of a song. Once again, reaffirms Stevie Nicks is my favorite female singer of all time. If this live version had any "flaw" it's the pace was a little fast, as often happens in life versions.
Love it! I saw them at the old Capital Center outside DC that year and the next. Both years standing in front of the stage after fighting my way up front. Thanks for bringing back HS memories for me. Awesome performance, by a great “American” band. Stevie is my favorite.
I miss the old capital center. I saw them there also but years after you probably did. I also saw Stevie on her solo tour at Merriweather Post Pavilion in MD during the 90s.
@@grifffaust Definitely a lot of memories at Merriweather Post Pavilion. It was a hike from Alexandria/Mt. Vernon area of VA, but, we saw dozens of shows there. I later worked part-time at Capital Center, and got to see shows for free, so that place is remembered pretty fondly by me, as well. Take care!
Did Andy say, "peace?" Love that. Let's just put this out there. #1 Women lead singer: It is either Nancy Wilson or Stevie Nicks. That was just an incredible performance. You have to grade it as a performance. Record is always going to be different. I don't know how you can't go S-tier on this.
For patreon I suggest you watch the dance from the 90’s. Great venue and very mature renditions of their song’s. The ability to buy the concert is why I signed up for Amazon years ago. Trust me you will have a great time.
They were a flat-out amazing band, live or in the studio. I don't think most younger folks realize how relatively few opportunities we had to see these great bands perform live in their 70s heyday, beyond a handful of network TV shows and actually going in person.
You can't expect the live version to be the same as the studio version. Live it's raw and real and stunning. I love the whole thing live...the emotion they evoke is so fabulous. The atmosphere at a live gig is unmatched imo.
Stevie Nicks best friend had died around 70s/80s, so she had thought that marrying her widowed husband was the best thing to do for her friend. She later admitted in regretting the decision and stating it was a bizarre decision as the marriage was short, and she stated that she is forever married to her music not long from her previous relationships (Buckingham and Fleetwood included).
Stevie is...MAGIC...I can think of no other word that quite describes her. I think she is the most magic in this performance that I have ever seen her. The sheer energy she puts into that song is not something you'll see very often. Saw them in concert a few years back, with this full lineup back together for the first time in quite awhile, and they still sounded great!
I wish they had gone back into the studio and did the song like this. Or just record it live together in the studio until they got a great take to release for us. Give me elements of both.
I get what you are saying when I watched this version the very first time I felt like it was a little flat. In the end, when Stevie just lets go and does her thing it's amazing. Now having seen this so many times I pick up a few things I do like in the beginning. Stevie's voice is just so amazing and to hear it live is just amazing. She kept getting raspy or something like that on certain parts in the beginning and I really enjoy that. I also feel the band was feeding on her, when she let go so did the band. I think someone said they were really grooving together at one point. It was like they hit their sweet spot.
For another live performance, do a search for "Fleetwood Mac - Angel (Live in St Louis, Nov 1979)". Not one of their big hits, but I love the performance, which really gets electric when Lindsey joins her in the middle of the stage.
You should check out the original line up of Fleetwood Mac with the late great Peter Green on guitar. "My heart beat like a hammer" , "Oh Well" , "Black Magic Woman" and many more.
Next up, please react to Fleetwood Mac's live performance of Big Love from "The Dance"... it's a showcase for Lindsey Buckingham's talent. Mesmerizing!
I saw Fleetwood Mac pre Rumors album. Stevie was at her witchy best. I also knew about the band before Buckingham Nicks because of some friends. Puff, Puff, Pass, 'ere.
Saw them perform this live in August, 1975, several months before this performance. My favorite song from that album and concert. 17 years old, 10 feet from Stevie Nicks in an arena with 2,000 in attendance.
Taken as individuals the members of Fleetwood Mac are very unconventional musicians and artists. But put together they are magic. RIP Christine McVie. ❤
That was incredible and more so for the fact that I’ve never heard that version. Saw them live at the O2 six or seven years ago and they were great but wished that I’d seen them in their pomp. For a more mellow but powerful song try Sara, which I’ve always loved
I think one of the magical things that is missing from their live versions is their individual harmonies, especially the use of Christine McVie's backups. They really layer her in in the studio versions but she never sings those parts live. It just isn't the same. BTW Lindsey was responsible for creating all those musical layers. He's really a genius.
These guys are famous for many things, their Rock n Roll life style just being one of them. But if any band lived that style to the absolute edge and even beyond... then its Fleetwood Mac. I cant recall who exactly said it but he said something like : "you know, with all these famous rock bands you heard about, them doing lots of drugs and destroying hotel rooms and such" "well those are the excessive stories, the things that happened maybe once or twice but get remembered today" "Fleetwood Mac on the other hand... everything you heard is pretty much true and that is only the tip of the ice berg, these guys ARE rock n roll". Watch a few interviews with drummer Mick Fleetwood, a giant of a man (literally), he has great stories to tell... that is.. the stories he remembers, he readily admits he lost a few decades due to substance abuse, and does it with a smile and a joke ;) Thnx for the react guys, Fleetwood Mac is more than a band, its a story on its own.

(Yes, I know I could have looked them up, just haven't taken the time to do so.😉)
Was Helen Reddy using the Australian pronunciation of debut? (jk)
@@jamesdwithrow Well, perhaps time will tell. What say you, A&A?
The lyric, "Once in a million years, a woman like her, rises," is only on the live version. I'm pretty sure in the studio version she repeats the second have of the lyric from the previous verse, "All your life, you've never seen, woman taken by the wind."
@@lynnmorgan6144 You are correct
I like how she's looking back at Mick on the drums after the break, and gives him a long look like, "Hey, you coming with me? Let's GO."
And her hands coaxing . .. brilliant
Listen to “Silver Springs” live (Official Music Video) the interaction between Stevie and Lindsey is intense and incredible.
I prefer the studio cut though (~4 minutes ish). Both are good.
Please watch “big love” live from the dance. Mr Buckingham all by himself, surely one of the greatest performances of all time!
That was an amazing performance. The entire concert is mind blowing.
I totally agree - it was the very definition of a “tour de force” !
Yes!
Also "I'm So Afraid" from the same concert
It’s one that needs to be seen to be believed, and so far nobody on RUclips’s seen it
Guys, if you want to hear (but not see, since there’s no video) one of the most astonishing guitar solos ever recorded, listen to “I’m So Afraid” from the 1980 album Fleetwood Mac Live. Lindsey plays like a man possessed. Every time I listen to it, I get chills. I have to go lie down afterward.
Fantastic song & solo. My 2nd favorite FM song after "Go Your Own Way".
Actually in the CD The Dance Live performance of I'm so Afraid. Spectacular!
This. I've been recommending it for years.
I recommend listening to their entire reunion concert: "The Dance" It's amazing from start to finish.
That is one of the best live albums I've ever bought. Not sure I'd put it above Purple's "Made in Japan," but it's a close one.
🙂
Let's not forget Don Kirschner's Rock Concert also had just as many incredible live performances from the same era.
She said "Old Welch witch" at the beginning. Yes this performance is amazing!! And YES, we ALL had a crush on Stevie!!
My dad had such a crush on her I was named after her (born in 1979)!
One thing you miss with Fleetwood Mac's studio versions is Lindsey's killer guitar solos. So underrated. And never uses a pick. Crazy.
This is one of the greatest live performances by a woman EVER. I realize it's Fleetwood Mac but Stevie did this.
Rhiannon is my Wife's name. Needless to say, She loves this band and this tune.
My daughter's name! Rhiannon Leigh W.
A good Welsh name
You've got to hit some early Fleetwood Mac with Perter Green... "Oh Well" is a great one.
It’s on Patreon
They did it already
I did a search but it didn't turn up and I'm not on Patreon because I'm a cheap bastard. Lol
Oh Well is far from the best of Peter Green's FM....They were the best British Blues band ever... They made a LOT of great blues...!!
@@jordan390a well that's just, like, your opinion, man. Lol
Oh, and just in passing, the piano player.
@@David-iv6je No, it's because she was a tremendous performer. I appreciate the McVie love, I love her too! But please don't denigrate those of us who love Stevie Nicks as superficial.
Songbird was also a great song of hers.
Couldn't agree more, specially with the last part of your comment.
Definitely! I hope they can do it soon.
Yes, yes, yes!!! I was there on the floor, great show!!! 😎
@@nisipici Did you get a chance to go to the DC101's concerts at RFK Stadium? They put on some great shows!! 😎
I'm 65 I got to see them live back then! I am crying tears of joy! Thx!
I second that! Live was awesome!
I was so lucky to have been driving around when this song first hit the radio. The best era of music. PERIOD.
Not bad for a single track live recording out of the seventies! Awesome Fleetwood!
Phenomenal version of this song! Crushing so hard on Stevie and that hair!
I'd never seen this before. _Very_ impressive. Ever notice all the great bands sound just as good, if not better, live?
An amazing live track by Fleetwood Mac is the song "Silver Springs" from their live album "The Dance." There is a video of this performance, as well. It's all incredibly good.
You also have to realize that this live recording was done in the 70s, the ability to bring more of the studio sound to the stage is much better now.
yeah, this is a wonderful sounding recording. Then again I'm a deadhead who is used to listening to old live stuff, so... and audience tapes, haha
Fast forward to the "The Dance" live and you'll see their live production at it's finest. She is the Queen, always the Nightbird. Much love 💚💚
I wish they still had shows like Midnight Special that showcased popular rock and pop groups. I used to love that show.
BTW I think this is the best recorded version of this song ever.
Agree on both counts!
YES!!
And I will make that another YES! Great call Gary Schill.
Greatest single rock show I have ever seen. And I have seen them all.
Superior live version of a song. Once again, reaffirms Stevie Nicks is my favorite female singer of all time. If this live version had any "flaw" it's the pace was a little fast, as often happens in life versions.
Agreed, it sounds a bit rushed.
The studio version breathes better...
I personally love the sped-up feel; it makes it much more intense
Excellent choice!! Top 3 female lead singer of all times!!
Love it! I saw them at the old Capital Center outside DC that year and the next. Both years standing in front of the stage after fighting my way up front. Thanks for bringing back HS memories for me. Awesome performance, by a great “American” band. Stevie is my favorite.
I claim it as an American band because of Stevie, my AZ sister and spirit animal.
Take care!
Simply mesmerising. The live version on The Dance concert is mind blowing
This is probably THE most played Fleetwood-Mac song in their huge catalog. My favorite Fleetwood-Mac song, ever, is Hypnotized
First time seeing this. I just assumed it was just like the studio version but this was a jam. Awesome!!
Impressed with Christine, singing harmony and playing keys really well, both at once.
"I'm so Afraid". Any live version. Awesome solos from Lindsey.
Back in the day The Midnight Special was my favorite TV show. They had all the great acts.
So many versions of this song. My favorite is from "The Dance"
And keep in mind it's decades apart from this version!
“Go Your Own Way” live is awesome!! Especially watching Stevie getting tear-y eyed while singing back up for the man who is singing about her…
Stevie certainly had "It" and I'll say it again, Lindsey's guitar playing needs to be discussed more often.
Good reaction, guys. I'm glad you picked this live version to see.
Thanks. Perfection. I’d never seen it before. Now it’ll be like this performance - one that I watch multiple times.
This song went up a huge notch after the solo. Great jamming at the end.
You should check out the original line up of Fleetwood Mac with the late great Peter Green on guitar. "My heart beat like a hammer" , "Oh Well" , "Black Magic Woman" and many more.
A great live song is from the 1997 The Dance performance of Silver Springs. Gives you goose bumps, so good!
Next up, please react to Fleetwood Mac's live performance of Big Love from "The Dance"... it's a showcase for Lindsey Buckingham's talent. Mesmerizing!

Stevie ruled the 70s. Nobody could touch her.
HA! Very fitting - my husband and I are going to see Lindsey Buckingham tonight!!!!
I love Sara 🌹
Back when music was real-- what you saw was what you got! She had/has the ability to hypnotize entire stadiums with that voice!
Wow, nice call - you guys are going to dig this!
(also, try Petty's "'Breakdown" live from the Pack Up the Plantation album)
Yes 1985 version is awesome as this The Waiting
Yes! Haven't really heard it until you've heard the live version.
Watch a few interviews with drummer Mick Fleetwood, a giant of a man (literally), he has great stories to tell... that is.. the stories he remembers, he readily admits he lost a few decades due to substance abuse, and does it with a smile and a joke ;)
Thnx for the react guys, Fleetwood Mac is more than a band, its a story on its own.
Would love a Fleetwood Mac movie, like Bohemian Rhapsody.
@@robertmeyer2102 it would have to be a TV series. Starting with Peter Green, LSD and subsequent breakdown + the shotgun scene, then Jeremy Spencer and the cult. After the first series, then you can get to this lot. Too much for even a 3 hour movie. Spinal Tap wouldn't compare.
@@robertmeyer2102 agreed, and also agreed with Paul here because 1 movie wouldnt cover 5% of the story hehehe
I saw them twice in concert. Once for this tour, and then for Rumors. Fantastic concerts. This song always brought the crowd to their feet.
I really enjoyed the Stevie Nicks era of the band. But they did some interesting music before then including a song called hypnotized. You might want to check that out
The lady that introduced Fleetwood Mac was Helen Reddy from Canada. She sang the song "I Am Woman" which turned out to be the anthem for the woman's liberation movement in the 70's.
Godfather advice for Patreon, chase it with part 2 as soon as possible. Avoid part 3.
I saw Rhiannon on Stevie Nicks. Hec-Edmunson Pavilion. 1979.
Front row ! Very low stage.
I gave her a rose, then she kissed me. Aaaah. ;-)
So glad to see you guys do this one. I actually prefer Fleetwood Mac live; much heavier.

When I was in high school, all these songs were coming out. Stevie Nicks…amazing. We lived for this! It was an absolutely great time to be a teen.
Love this group! Check out their live version of I'm So Afraid for a nice dive into Lindsay Buckingham's guitar work 🎸
Yes! I was waiting for someone to mention I'm So Afraid. Best part of every FM show I've been to, for me. :)
Fantastic live performance by talented musicians and singers.
"The guy that recorded them, and did the production, and was so meticulous..."
Yeah, that was Lindsey Buckingham.

And for those wondering, right after Helen Reddy’s introduction, amidst the audience applause & the music beginning, what Stevie says is. “This is a song about an old WELSH Witch”…
