Not enough recognition for the amazing bass groove. It was recorded by an amazing studio bassist named Jonathan Maron. The pocket and feel are impeccable. And there are so many tiny little variations at the end of each line. It's not like he played a couple measures and they just looped it. The vocals and bass line ARE the song, to my mind.

When this album came out, I was 27 recovering from a stroke, I had short term memory loss, and I listened to music constantly. Anyway I heard this song on the radio and went to the record store to buy it, but with my memory loss I had NO idea what I was looking for. As fate would have it I walked into the store and it was playing, I asked someone who worked there who it was and I immediately bought this cd, every one after. Been a Maxwell fan ever since.

_Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite_ is probably one of my favorite albums of all time. It's just pure straight r&b from start to finish. This is how I like my r&b to sound. You can just press play and enjoy the experience. I know it word for word, inside and out. When I first saw him rollin' around on the floor on the _...Til The Cops Come Knockin'_ video, I was instantly intrigued. That "blue cd" was played every day of my life. My mom and I drove to Sam Goody the night it came out. _Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder)_ just feels good inside. It's a Quiet Storm classic. Maxwell started something different for my generation. Huge fan.

I'm from Australia so Maxwell was totally unheard of, I knew of his name only because he appeared on Sweetback's (Sade's band) album from 1996. Saw the album at a shop and just bought it, absolutely blind, this was before youtube and decent internet so I hadn't heard a single second. Oh man I got to tell you, as soon as The Urban Theme started playing I just knew, knew that I was about to embark on something special. I was in awe for the next hour and I still love this album the same today. Timeless.
