I find it hilarious that it took until John Cena in the sixth movie for someone to go, "You know, they call themselves the Decepticons. Maybe they're not the good guys?"

The discussion of Revenge of the Fallen reminded me that one of the reoccuring problems with the Transformers franchise is shoehorning in new characters in order to sale the toys, which gave me a video idea: Here's ten great character introductions from Transformers.

This is definitely something they did a lot more back then than today, but it still stands. While RotF is garbage, bringing Optimus back with a magic item we never heard of isn't anything new.

    5.) "Age of Extinction"

I used to love the Bay movies a lot. Then Bumblebee came out, and I realized "Oh, this is what a GOOD movie is."
I'm not one to say "this ruined my childhood", but the first five movies really are a colossal mess. There's just absolutely no attempt at continuity, whether through sequels or within the actual movies themselves. TLK is a great example of this. DotM has Cybertron destroyed, and at the end of the AoE, Optimus said he was going to "find" the makers. Except at the beginning of the movie, he gets to Cybertron, which is somehow still mildly intact, Quintessa looks NOTHING like the weird pink aliens at the start of AoE, and Prime says "What happened to my planet?!" Well, if we had a director and writer who CARED, Optimus would know what the heck happened during these movies.
Another small note, but the fear of Cybertronians as a whole and not caring about whether they're good or not... is kind of realistic. We've seen that a lot of people don't care whether there's genuinely good people out there, if they're from somewhere that has some bad people doing bad things, then they're going to be discriminated against.

From what I remember of the movies (been a while since I’ve seen any of them except Bumblebee):
    6. TLK
    5. ROTF
    4. AOE
    3. 07
    2. DOTM
    1. BB
Four and up are legit good movies (especially DOTM and BB), but TLK and ROTF are complete clusterfucks. TLK was a mess of way too many plots, ROTF was just on the whole bad, AOE also suffers from having a bit too much crammed into it, but it doesn’t ruin the movie unlike TLK, 07 was just a really fun watch, DOTM’s plot was really interesting, and BB is what the live action movies should have been from the start.

    My list and short reasoning:
    1. Bumblebee. It has an actual story with actaul characters. I was upset when it was announced and swore I wasn't going to see it but I'm glad I did. It redeemed the idea that live action Transformers movies can be good films.
    2. Transformers(2007). A solid action movie for its time. Could be a lot better but is enjoyable for what it is.
    3. Dark of the Moon. I feel it drags a little and Carly's big speech to Megs really feels like leftover script for Megan Fox's character.
    4. Age of Extinction. It did some things right but honestly is a mess. Grimlock is king! Grimlock is no stead!
    5. The Last Knight. Dinobot babies, everyone needs to help at the end yet Grimlock is AWOL probably eating a cop car somewhere just because. Nonsensical "story." Only thing I like is what TJOmega didn't which was the decepticon bit, only because I felt it was the first time since TF2007 the movies "tried" to give decepticons characters.
    6. Revenge of the Fallen. It's just not good. I don't hate the twins as much as other people but I agree they are annoying characters. Fallen is a waste. Arcee triplets wtf? Unlikeable characters throughout.
The worst part for me with the core bayverse films is the total lack of continuity in them. The All Spark just happens to land(2007) on the same planet that the fallen was going to destroy the sun of(RotF) which also just happens to be the secret meeting place for Sentinel Prime and Megs(DotM) even though Megs crashed into that same planet(2007) which btw was sorta terraformed already(AoE), but wait is also really blank(Last Knight spoiler???). Bayverse is a mess.

Oh, and the action sequences in Bumblebee are way better (save for the Forest Battle, Bonecrusher vs. Optimus, Optimus vs. Grimlock, Optimus vs. The Fallen, and a few cool scenes from DOTM).

  • @RialVestro
    @RialVestro 2 года назад +3

Dark of the Moon is at the TOP of my worst movies list. And the reason is BECAUSE of Sentinel Prime. He says that he only joined Megatron because the Decepticons were too powerful to beat and it was better to join them but then we see that Sentinel is effectively leading the Decepticons for the whole movie. It's the WORST example of Megatron being second fiddle to someone else, like he even needs a pep talk from Carly just to fight back against Sentinel. There's also the fact that Sentinel claims to want to save the Autobots yet actively takes part in trying to kill them all. His motivations make ZERO sense. I could understand if he was lying to try to gain their trust but he says all this after he's already been found out as a traitor. The last thing he says before being killed at the end of the movie is also a contradiction to everything he'd done up to that point. It's hard to get behind a character when every line of dialog of their mouth contradicts every action they take through out the entire movie.
RotF is the second worst for me... I mean there's still contradicts that don't make any sense but it's not as bad as Dark of the Moon is. And the Twins aren't racist stereotypes but I do agree they are just generically bad characters. I don't really need to talk about this one too much because you already said most of what's wrong with but forgot to mention the scene where Megatron says "No one leads the Decepticons but me!" Just before bowing down and immediately following the Fallen's orders with no prompting what so ever.
The 2007 movie is next just because the sequels actually slowly improved the designs over time and started actually using the Transformers as real characters in their movies. The first movie doesn't really have a lot of Transformers in it and the designs are just horrible.
I'm putting Bumblebee at number 3 honestly because the movie feels like two entirely separate movies thrown in a blender... and it was. They tried to make it both a Prequel to the Micheal Bay films and a reboot at the same time so there are parts of it that still follow the Micheal Bay continuity and design aesthetic which ruin the entire movie for me. It's most of the movie too the only part I actually liked was a 5 minute scene at the beginning of the movie. There was a lot of stuff the new director wanted to do but couldn't because it's still a Micheal Bay produced movie. He's not the director on this one but a lot of the Micheal Bayisms still show in the movie because he's a producer at it was intended to be a prequel. I want to see the Travis Knight cut with all the deleted and rejected material that the new director didn't get to do because of Micheal Bay. If they can make an alternate cut of Justice League why not do it for Bumblebee so we can actually have a more cohesive movie. If we get a Travis Knight cut of the film then I'll more it to number 1 but as it is, it just feels confused and doesn't feel like a real reboot.
Remember that the Last Knight came out after Suicide Squad and Micheal Bay is known for stealing things from other movies. That whole out of place Decepticon introduction scene was right out of how they introduced all the villains in Suicide Squad. I kind of put here mostly because Megatron actually looks the best in this movie far better than any other movie Megatron not counting the Bumblebee movie since his concept design for that never actually appeared in the movie. As I mentioned earlier the designs progressively got better in the sequels so TLK Megatron is literally the only one I actually like the design of. The plot is still nonsense but it's much more pleasant to look at. Also the Knights forming a dragon, some of that mythology was also used in Beast Hunters so it's one of the few times where the movie toy line and cartoon toy line kind of matched.
Age of Extinction is my number 1. There are still a lot of issues here, lets be honest none of these movies are actually good this is just the one I hate the least. Age of Extinction did introduce some interesting ideas even though they were used terribly. The KSI robots are basically the same idea as what MECH would do in Prime and what Doctor Morocco would do in Rescue Bots. I liked the idea even if it wasn't really done well and AoE kind of did it first. It's also the first time we got an attempt at giving Optimus his G1 truck mode and I never minded the flames but I actually love the Evasion mode design... when it's in his proper colors... the movie accurate version should of been Ultra Magnus. I also have to mention... while I hate the design this is also technically the first time since the 86 movie that Galvatron has been a unique mold and not just a repaint of Megatron. Unless you count Beast Wars II but we never got that figure in the U.S. and BW Megatron and Galvatron are two totally separate characters not one becomes the other. So as far as Megatron turning into Galvatron, only G1 and the live action films have made Galvatron a unique mold rather than a repaint. We had 4 in a row between RID2001 and Cybertron of Megatron being repainted into Galvatron over and over again. It was annoying.

    • @RialVestro
      @RialVestro 2 года назад

@@slimebuck Um no... I mean technically you're suppose to hate the villains but not because they're motivations are complete nonsense. I hate him because of the terrible writing not because he's a villain.
Even a basic "evil for the sake of being evil" is better writing than Sentinel Prime. Trying to make a complex villain with actual motivations only works if their motivations are consistent with their actions. When they totally contradict each other you're better off with a mustache twirling cliche.

    1. Is definitely dark of the moon, it’s got the best action, and a very good story. The character designs are really good imo and it introduced the dreads and the driller two completely original and awesome additions to transformers.
    2. Is going to be AOE for me. Especially since the reason for humans hating the autobots makes sense. They technically brought the war to earth. If optimus either didn’t send the allspark off world or if it landed somewhere else all of the events of the movies would have never happened the thousands of lives would have never been lost. And I liked how it broke down the autobots and built them back up. And since I’ll probably never get another chance to say this the arcade game shadows rising did the story better imo but it doesn’t ruin the movie for me I just found it funny.
    3. Is 2007 I don’t have much to say other than it was a nice introduction to this new and dare I say ambitious universe.
    4. Is bumblebee I’m ngl upon first seeing it I instantly loved and thought it was better than all of the bay films combined. But upon rewatching it I just didn’t like as much as the first 3. It’s kind of overrated since most of the praise it gets is from the first 5 minutes with all of the g1 designs. It’s a good film and I like it but the movie can be super boring at times and has the same issues as the bay films with humans except worse I hate the scene where Charlie chases after her mom driving bumblebee.
    5. Is rotf again nothing much a little.. odd in some places but not awful imo.
    6. Is without a shadow of a fought tlk. I HATE this film as a fan of the bayverse. For some context I grew up with the bay films (and transformers prime but that’s not really relevant) my first transformers figures were all from dotm. I was eagerly awaiting this film seeing the ark and Egypt come back made me think that some characters like sideswipe road buster, dino, and jolt would come back. And NEMESIS PRIME is in the movie and is probably going to kill bumblebee, kid me was excited to say the least. Come the day I see it in theaters and all of my hopes and dreams were shattered and thrown into a vat of acid. No returning characters from the OT, and no megatron doesn’t count. Nemesis prime does like nothing. And optimus is reverted back by hearing bees voice. Ugh this movie angered me. And not to mention like half the dinobots were missing. I don’t think a word exist that can describe how frustrated this movies makes me it’s a complete spit in the face of the continuity built up from the previous movies and the fans who were excited for the film. Sorry for the long rant thinking about this film gets me riled up.

I really despise the way Last Knight overrode the concept of what Nemesis Prime is. I have no fucking clue why so much of the fandom accepted Optimus Prime Evil Anime Angery Mode as the definition of “Nemesis Prime” over the evil clone or other form of doppelgänger that has been what the character is for DECADES.
It’d be like if Marvel made a movie about Spider-Man dealing with the symbiote costume and then everyone defines that corrupted version of him as what Venom is after that point.

Dark of the Moon>TF1>Revenge of the Fallen>Bumblebee>Age of Extinction> The Last Knight would be my ranking. This is just how much I like them, not which ones I think are objectively the best

This list is pretty much how I would rank them (except I haven't seen Last Knight so I wouldn't know where exactly to put it.) Bumblebee is the only one of these movies I am likely to ever watch again. Not a great film, but the only one that didn't leave me with a migraine and regret for the 2 and 1/2 hours of my life I lost. I feel like the first movie came close to recreating the feeling of the early Marvel comics and could have done so even more with some editing. Take out some of the crude humor and trim some for runtime and it would have been watchable. Still, it was the only one I saw in theaters because I didn't like it enough to pay to see any of the others. I just waited for them to come on TV. Each of the following movies kinda have the same problem as the Resident Evil movies, where you have to remember certain things from the previous movies, but then pretend certain other things never happened. Like how the Autobots save the world every movie then are back to being fugitives at the beginning of the next. It's like the 70s Hulk TV series.

I'm kinda surprised you didn't mention the weird (and stupid) particle/fragment/nanobot transformation in TLK.
    I reaaaaallly hated that.

My list is fairly similar to yours. RotF actually pissed me off.
So much dumb humor. And I like grade school level humor. But not in Transformers.
I can watch pretty much all of them, except RotF.
I’m an outlier, I liked Galvatron in AoE. I thought it was an interesting concept.

Okay, screw it. I'm gonna say it. I VASTLY prefer the 2007 live-action movie to the 1986 animated movie. I think it's far better.

I got to watch AOE and TLK at theaters and I personally like them. I know that they are heavily flawed but I liked some of the things that they offered. Lockdown was a cool character, Evasion Mode Optimus and TLK Megatron are peak transformer design, and it really did felt that something big with Unicron was coming if the series hadn't been cancelled. DOTM and BB are k and ROTF is objectively the worst. 2007 is such a spectacle and the awe that I got from watching the first time will never leave. I'm so glad that it's returning to theaters this June. It's gonna be epic and will be the first film to make 720 Transformillion dollars at the box office.

Bumblebee is such a nothing movie for me because I don't even remember most of it. Transformers (2007) is overrated, upon a recent rewatch, I got bored outta my mind waiting for stuff to happen (it takes well over an hour for things to get interesting).
I think AOE is better than most give it credit for and ROTF isn't bad, if I love anything about the twins, it was the toys they got.
TLK is pretty bad. DOTM is the peak for these movies, I doubt that Rise of The Beasts will top it.

I'm not a fan of any of the live action movies, I seen them but they aren't really worth rewatching because the stories are all over the place and the characters are rubbish, I kind of feel that Transformers just isn't really good as movies, they are just frustating and completely stupid, for example, advanced alien race of robots cannot repair a single soldier's voice box, then, there is the means of transport across space, some how Megatron flies all of the way from Cybertron to Earth, in his alt mode and doesn't need to recharge, even after he reawakens on Earth centuries later, also, the Allspark, is just so dumb of an idea that it can randomly bring things to life, I always prefered the idea of the two factions coming to Earth because its rich in energy and easier to obtain, plus, they had large ships to transport them across the galaxy and serve as bases! In general, I don't like how the Transformers tend to end up as side characters in their own movies, despite their attempts to fix things, by the time Last Knight roles around, all of the major Decepticons have been killed off and you can't really take anything to serious and I have a lot of doults about the upcoming film, because its likely to repeat the mistakes of the other films, having to many characters and not really fleshing them out properly and likely fall back upon genetic characters! I'm kind of thinking that, Transformers is just not really suited to big budget movies, maybe when CGI comes cheep enough, we can have a live action TV show, really goto the characters!
