Smough…I think it’s time to talk about the real truth of Melina. Melina = miquella, we already know it’s possible for empryeans to split themselves and create two bodies, hence raddagon and merika
So, I have a theory about the GEQ. What if she was actually Marika's twin? Twins are prominent in ER, and usually show a duality. Marika is very much associated with life, and the GEQ is obviously death. So far in my research, I've seen that when referencing the GEQ, Marika is referred as an empyrean, but not necessarily the new god. Only after the GEQ's death did Marika remove the rune of death. Why didn't she remove it before? Was it because Marika COULDN'T remove it before? Was it because the GEQ and Marika were chosen TOGETHAAAA as rival empyreans, like Ranni, Miquella, and Melania, and thus did not have access to the Elden Ring until after the GEQ's defeat? Is that why in the DLC's story trailer we see Marika pulling out strands of gold from what looks like Godskin cloth? Was this moment when Marika truly claimed godhood for herself? I'd like to see what ya think! Thanks!
There's also the loophole where you let her sacrifice herself, and then go do the frenzied flame ending. She won't be there for the ending. She can't stop you with destined death anymore.

Well i dont think it matters much. The Lord of Chaos cannot be defeated by Melina. Since u defeated Maliketh with destined death while in a weaker form. Now u have the powers of a God

That was an idea I had as well. It would make sense because the Glome Eyed Queen was slain by Maleketh, using the power of Destined Death. I would assume that means that she would’ve had a true death?

@@Ghostrnaut Maliketh didn't wield The Rune of Death until after The Gloam Eyed Queen was defeated. Maliketh defeated The Gloam Eyed Queen with The Rune of Life.
The Gloam Eyed Queen became Marika and was given The Rune of Life. Maliketh became Gurranq and was given The Rune of Death. Hoarah Loux, the headless, soulless physical aspect of The Gloam Eyed Queen's bodyless soul became Godfrey.
They then fought the Fire Giants and the Erdtree grew afterwards. Erasing the history of what came before.

If she is the gloam eyed queen she's more threatening than any other god bcz when you're killed by destined death you're killed for real. No resurrection. It's mentioned in the game that the demigods feared destined Maliketh (who wields destined death) for this reason.

I know this may be a stretch but. The dlc will feature miquella and godwyn. The teaser image has miquella on torrent and a dying erdtree. Godwyns corpse is directly under the erdtree. In the image the erdtree looks like it has another tree of death blight wrapped around it. I believe if the dlc has both miquella (Melina’s brother) and godwyn (mr death himself) I’d say it can be reasoned that the gloam eyed queen will be in the dlc
She's also one of the only people that mention births, and the Swaddling Cloth says it's used to cradle newborn apostles.
"She" being Melina, most notably when she's trying to persuade us not to take the Flame of Frenzy. Hyetta also mentions "no more births" should the Frenzied Flame take over.
@@devinguy melina also mentions she was born at the foot of the erd tree, that her mother is in the erd tree, and she shares naming conventions like all the other demi god children of Marika do. Unless she's lying to us in those things, its unlikely to me that she's the gloam eyed queen.
I think this is just an instance of the community looking a little "too" deep into the lore. To me it just seems like personally possessing the rune of death changes a person, and that since it was only "unbound" when we killed Malekith, she hunted it down and took possession of it to kill us in the frenzied flame ending. I mean she's also become magically blind in the only eye she used to see out of, and her hair has turned black. maybe taking possession of the rune of death is something traumatic like when possessed by the frenzied flame, or when you eat too many dragon hearts. Its a theme in miyazaki games that great power usually comes with physical repercussions.
Course, that doesnt really explain why her eye was permanently closed before the ending, but Ranni is in the exact same boat, seeing only out of the opposite eye to melina, and having the weird phantom person thing overlapping. i think either way we'll find out in the DLC at some point
@@declancampbell1277 Let me be clear: I am not saying "this means she is the gloam-eyed queen" I'm just helping reinforce the notion that Melina, Hyetta AND the items mentioning Gloam-Eyed Queen refer to births in the Lands Between, and that the nature of birth/death is a lot more than people think.
Really hoping the DLC clears some of this stuff up too, but we usually end up with more questions than answers, which isn't all bad really.
@@devinguy Yeah Melina is one of the most contradictory characters ive ever seen, and she seems to have ties to darn near every major faction in the game in some way.
Ranni, Marika, the black knifes, the Golden order, the gloam eyed queen etc etc. It make it extremely difficult to get a measure on who she really is.
Considering the DLC will probably be covering Miquella and seems to have torrent on the teaser, its likely we'll get at least some new Melina information. If melina really is Marika's daughter, it would make sense to see new details on her along with the only other Demi god we've yet to know fully.
@@declancampbell1277I know I'm a bit late, but it's an interesting note that when she says "my mother was in the erdtree " it doesn't necessarily have to refer to Marika, we encounter and interact with many people who are technically in the erdtree if I'm Correct it's specific that all who have died return to the erdtree which is interesting because before the Era of the erdtree and the Golden order there was the Crucible of life and we know that the gloam eyed qween was the original holder of Destined death witch at the time existed within the black flame used to to burn the remains of life and kill the gods, so if we think about the order of things such as her losing Destined death it becoming sealed and the gods being granted Immortality and the erdtree itself self the home of what remains in life after death do to Destined death being sealed, the erdtree is the home to what the black flame was meant to detach from the lands between in the Frenzied flame ending we "Incinerate all that divides a distinguishes and let chaos take the world" it's only if we do so and side with the Frenzy flame do we get any ending with melina this is because we burn everything not just the erdtree and the Golden order we know this is one of her goals on top of uncealing destined death and using it's power to do just that. Now with context let's go back to the mentioning of her mother being in the erdtree this could mean that her mother is dead and now within it which makes sense the gloam eyed queen being defeated having lost Destined death now like many other's is with in the erdtree, it's another thing to mention the it's also stated that no one knows what happened to the qween and that her whereabouts were unknown after the battle and it's Entirely possible that Melina Is just a Part of the gloam eyed qween or is just her actual child born before she became a part of the erdtree but it's more than just implied that there related closely

@@SmoughTown for real though. In my NG+ playthrough I am doing no map, fast travel, or even torrent. I'm doing this so I really can get submerged into the lore, and watching your videos I have a much deeper appreciation for all the places I reach, and enemies I fight.

If she was the gloam eyed queen then it would make sense why she teleports you to Farrum Azula as that is where the rune of death is to be found. Also, it could be the reason why the erdtree only burns after you unleash the rune of death, as unleashing the rune of death is releasing her true power, or releasing her actual body, alowing her to truly burn the erdtree down.
dayum so the rune of death is her real body. and waifu melina is just her astral body, not a corporeal form
Alexander and Bernahl also get there. Alexander probably had maiden guts within him and Bernahl has already burned his girl, the transport seems to be related to the kindling ritual.

Rampant speculation on my part here, but Melina also has what may represent deathbird talons over the eye which is purple, while her other eye is greyed out like the "Beast Eye" after it loses its grace in that final cutscene. Given Godwyn's eyes turned grey upon his half-acceptance of the Rune of Death and subsequent ascension to Prince of Death (opening cutscene), I would go as far as to say the Queen's eponymous Gloam-Eyes are the grey ones, while the purple is something else entirely.
Purple was the original color of ghostflame (Grave Violet), in the time before the Erdtree, when dead were burned in it (Explosive Ghostflame).
Funnily enough, if this holds up, every single flame in the game would link back to Melina in some way. Smouldering Butterflies, the Blade of Calling, and the prophecy of the Kindling Maiden all tie her to the Flame of the Fell God. The three talons mentioned as an ill omen in the Four-Toed Fowl Foot description juxtaposed with the four talons on her eye, as well as her various well-known tirades against the Frenzied Flame, pose her as its natural enemy. The purple eye and talon tattoo may link her to Ghostflame, and if she truly is the Gloam-Eyed Queen, there's the link to Black Flame.
Knowing how FromSoft does things, I'm sure she originally was supposed to be but in the DLC we'll get a different answer

Not in this DLC, but, maybe in one of the future 3 to come
There is a single grave outside the church of the minor erdtree (or whatever the church is with the Golden Order Seal) that has a Flaming Butterfly and a Guardian kneeling at it. I often wondered if this was Melina's grave.
I think she's the gloam eyed queen's daughter or, in a sense, similar to milicent. I think Ranni and Melina share a similar path but different goals, both guided by the gloam eyed queen because for ranni's ending to happen you still have to have melina sacrificed, theres also the slight theory that the soul of the player could be the soul of miquella
This is my thought, that Melina is Marika's daughter, and that Marika was the Gloam-Eyed Queen prior to being defeated by Maliketh.
Messmer's remembrance implies that this is true
I believe that Melina is only one half of the Gloam-Eyed Queen and Ranni's mentor, the Snowy Crone, is the other half. (Which is why her current doll state connects with Melina's appearance, because it was modeled after the Snowy Crone.) What we saw in the Frenzied Flame is the full GEQ. They are the 2 aspects of destined death, death and life (where death nurishes new life). After GEQ was cut in half by Maliketh the Black Blade, she nurished new life in the form of these 2 characters. Snowy Crone(Renna) is the death aspect, she's definitely taught Ranni how to manipulate the rune of death enough to create daggers out of fractions of it, cold even kills the universe (heat death). She belongs to the "Carian" royal family (Caria is a "dead" Greek language, and "Carian" sound like "Carrion" which refers to a corpse going through decomposition). Then we have Melina who is the life aspect. When we summon her for Morgott, she casts a tree of life to heal us when her summon is killed. Her only goal for the age is to wipe out the current order and fix or replace it with something new, but she's still on the side of life. She doesn't care if you burn the erdtree, but if you're Frenzied, you also burn the inner tree (which is the great tree or the crucible, both symbols of life.) Melina's dialogue when we have Bok tells us that she wasn't born of a mother (because she was born out of death). She can turn our runes to strength not because she's a finger maiden, but because she's strengthening us through the the enemies we've killed. That's why she can turn our runes to strength without being a finger maiden.
Daayum that's a good Theory, i was wondering if She even was a person in the typical sense, as that dialogue you mention with Boc makes It sound like She was never even Born.
This theory doesn't really explain HOW The GEQ Ended up splitting Instead of suffering a true Death, but other than that its a really strong One
@emanuelereali4684 I honestly don't think she was truly killed. Every reference to the queen says "she was defeated by maliketh"
But never "felled" or even "killed" by maliketh.
Remember, the source of the black flame was sealed, but not destroyed, and that that seal could very well have been separating the body (Melina) from the soul (GEQ) in some form or manner, or that they were just split using some other means.
@@inserisciunnome How it happened was a function of her rune, Destined Death. It is a cycle. Death nurishes new life. It says that she was split in half by Maliketh. GEQ's death fostered new life in the form of the beings Renna(Ranni's Mentor) and Melina.

Perhaps the Beast Eye he gives you is Melina's other gloam eye.
That implyes that Maliketh literally reached into her skull and ripped the eye out with it remaining whole... thats a very unpleasent thought imo
She still has 2 eyes in the end cutscene, one is simply blind.
The beast eye is probably Malekith's own eye.
Her gold coloured eye has gone pale in the Lord of Chaos ending, plus her hair has gone dark and stringy and her skin has gone pale.
These are all indications that her gloam eye only recently occurred, presumably when she took up Destined Death in order to kill the Lord of Chaos.
As we know, in Elden Ring eye colour indicates the influence of a supernatural power (nearly always that of an Outer God).
If it was once gold and now grey/dead, maybe its just symbolizing that the Golden Order is dead and she always had her eyes in 2 different universes or something. 2 different outer gods, idk.

I never believed that Melina IS the Gloam-eyed queen as there are multiple contradictions, but again her Gloam eye in the cutscene just didn’t settle right with me even though she is named “daughterofmarika” in the game files. Until you gave a very plausible explanation to it.
I believe her white/grey complexion is supposed to resemble ash after she burned herself with the giants flame

Years I hope for another game I could get completely immersed and soak in everything I could learn about it and along came Elden Ring. I always sucked at souls games but I gave it a shot and was massively blown away. Here we are more than a year later and I'm still watching some kind of video or reading theories about it. This game quickly became my favorite and I don't see that changing any time soon
But this doesn’t go over her motivational conflicts, Melina simply wants a new lord to step up and doesn’t care if she dies to do it (and she does in the normal ending) while the Gloam eyed queen wanted to slay the gods and rule the lands between herself and ascend to godhood since she was an empyrean.

there's a theory that says that Malina is affected by something that relates to the god skins' outer god, and that will explain the sealed eye by some technique (just like Malenia with her rot and bloom affecting her and repelling it thanks to her mentor and the unalloyed gold), since we know that there's a different Ring in Farum Azula, it may indicate that the order before the golden order was some how not only related to the omens and horns and tails, it may be related to death too, hence explaining why did the golden order not come right after the landing of the vassal of the greater will, because there was a another order led by the god skins and the gloam eyed queen was an empyrean of the long gone order.

I feel like her, herself being the Glaom eyed queen is a bit strange. Being that the original queen was hunted and killed by Malakith. But maybe she is just a child of Marika, who she put the power of the queen into to ensure that whoever used the frenzied flame would die.
Just another theory to put out there to brainstorm other ideas.

Thanks so much Patches - yeh at the end of the day I am not 100% sold on Melina, rather I acknowledge there is a fair bit of circumstantial evidence that could point towards it.
I mean we all forgetting that ranni is a doll that takes the form of a snow witch, a snow witch that was rannis mentor and mostly connected to Melina in some form, as rannis real body has red hair and is as tall as her mother who is like 7 feet tall
@Shmillbe Where is it connected? As in the closed eye? If so, her eye is open in her ghost form next to her doll head, leaving both eyes open throughout the whole game. And not changing when death is released or when you see her in her ending.

And the counter argument: it would make literally no sense, considering that the game also implies Melina is a daughter of Marika/Messmer's sister.
I like to believe Melina acts as a prison for the gloam eyed queen because they couldn’t end her properly.

The Beast Eye is one of Maliketh’s eyes. His model doesn’t have eyes and he has an insatiable appetite for death root thanks to Marikas curse. He only talk to the tarnished when we give him death root, he gorges on it immediately after we exchange it, and even attacks us after he gives into his maddening gluttony for it after so many roots. I don’t think his eyes quivering when near it isn’t a far stretch
Also on the statue of the gloam eyed queen I think their wearing the same clothes
I believe she's got some gloam eye in her, but I also believe she inherited that from her mom. Also if Godwyn is the prince of death, I think that might make marika the queen of death. I think it's a position that can be usurped though, if melina serves death better now, I dont see why she cant be the new queen. But tbh I dont see any actual evidence for any candidate to be disproved, fromsoft wanted it to be a mystery and it's a good one. This is no where near evidence, but Marika is very very similar to Blackflame Freida in backstory
So why doesn't ranni list her with the empyreans? Did ranni assume she was dead? She must've known something.
There is also another interpretation. It’s possible Melina isn’t the Gloam-Eyed Queen, but is instead the one who BECOMES the new Gloam-Eyed Queen in the Frenzied Flame ending after taking on the power of Destined Death. This could make up for the discrepancies in her story.
I think the fact that melina was born at the foot of the erdtree disproves this. the gloam-eyed queen presumably existed before the erdtree, since she was competing with marika before she became a god. theres evidence for her being the third child of marika and radagon. theres 3 butterfly items representing rot (melania), birth (miquella), and fire (melina). since the twins are both born cursed, it would make sense that melina's form is a similar curse, connected with fire or death
Now it’s a Naruto theory, Marika had the Gloam-Eyed Queen sealed in Melina when she was a baby.
with the release of the DLC we now know that Melina was born before before malenia and miquella, though i'm not sure what order she and messmer were born in. messmer had an ember in him that marika was scared of, likely because it could burn the erdtree. melina also states at the start of the game that she is "burned and bodyless," so yeah, her curse was fire.
It's weird to have the post-credits scene unless we fight her in the DLC, regardless of whether or not the player does the Flame of Frenzy ending. The Gloam-Eyed Queen could also be Miquella. The power of sleep with St. Trina is associated with the color purple.
She’s not because most of the lore surrounding the gloam eyed queen would’ve happened before she was born. She’s most likely one of the black knife assassins that helped ranni kill godwin
How could you know that Melina's eye is specifically unsealed by the death rune? It could also be from the ending.

In the dlc if u read Mesmer kindling it says that Mesmer had a younger sister who saw fire same as him. Melina also sees fire and since Mesmer is an empyream due to his red hair and demigod status we can assume that Melina is the younger sister especially since the gloam eyed queen was a wielder of the god slaying black flame which makes sense as to why she would be able to see fire
I like the theory that Marika is the Gloam Eyed Queen before she became the chosen of the golden order. Melina has pink hair Half way between Radagon Red and Marika Gold. The eyes could be the same one Golden order Marika eye and one old Gloam eye. As the player our eyes change color depending on what direction we go, perhaps the same happened to Marika.

My personal belief is that Marika had a twin sister, due to twins having a high likely hood of birthing twins, and she was the gloam eyed queen untill Marika slew her to become the goddess of gold. Following this is the rest of the lore up until Marika has a single daughter, one who can quote the things Marika said long before her birth; a return of the gloam eyed queen. There is evidence that this could be true since shabriri assumably the three fingers version of markia reincarnates at his own will
Marika is a twin? So, just because they fused together and created a Oneness, her and Radagon are twins? So, Radahn, Malenia and Miquella are inbreds, due to incest parents?

The great rune of the unborn states "Great Rune of unborn demigods. Perfects those who have been born anew." In the game files Melina is confirmed to be one of Marikas children. I wonder if the Gloam eyed queen killed was reborn and Melina is her reincarnation
Since rebirth is a well stated concept in Elden Ring it's possible that the Queen could die and then later be reborn again just without her previous life's memories

Aside from her having a gloam eye she is also refered as the Dusk Eyed Queen in some text which could make reference to the same dark colored eye but it also could be a reference to how her other eye loses the golden shine

shes also a demigod. she knows more then anyone about her mother marika. her mother gave her her purpose at the base of the erdtree. she also has a room in the capitol. shes burned and bodyless, has burn scars from her battle with maliketh. and she has a butterfly describing her just like miquilla and melania
Why would fighting maliketh burn her???? He doesn’t use flames. But messmer does, and he is probably the flaming butterfly.
The GEQ is also an empyrean which all other empyreans we know about are children of marika or Radagon and her file name is “Daughter of Marika.”
Also with the butterflies being tied to miquella and melania (along with the naming style all other demigod children follow) would likely make her born from marika and Radagon just like melania and miquella. Instead of having twins marika might’ve had triplets and for some reason kept Melina hidden. Her being burned and bodiless might be her affliction she suffers since the other two demigod children are also afflicted (rot and youth) for being born from a single god.
She also is the only person to mention births which could tie her to the GEQ through the swaddling cloth talisman

Well also her mother said her mission was to burn the Erd tree, and Merika is in there, and Merika saw her death at the hands of the Gloom eyed queen.
My current running theory is that she was the Gloam eyed queen but after she was defeated her soul went to the Erdtree were she would eventually be reborn. I believe there is dialogue somewhere where she mentions something about not being born from a mother. Marika took her in as her child likely not even knowing she was the Gloam eyed queen. She likely also lost her memories but still feels closely connected to destined death, that is until death is unbound and she regains her former strength
Edit I also wonder if to be reborn you need both your soul and body to return to the erdtree but since she was never given an erdtree burial she would comeback without a physical body
now that i look at it this way, the markings on her eye look a lot like serosh's claws

What I can't quite reconcile is that we also know her as the Kindling Maiden. She exists "burned and bodiless". She's almost certainly a daughter of Marika, and has a long forgotten service to Marika herself.
This and the GEQs modus operandi was highly vitriolic - killing and skinning gods/demigods? A religious apostacy against Marika? It speaks of an enmity with Marika which I don't think reconciles with Melinas motives.
There are hints of Marika being unhappy with the Golden Order, and her final dialogue with Radagon before the Shattering suggests they were at odds.
My hypothesis is maybe Marikas plan was to burn the Erdtree and restore Destined Death to the Elden Ring. "The one who walks alongside flame shall one day meet the road of destined death" Melina was sent and burned the Erdtree once, hence we see the capitol covered with Ash- but it wasnt enough to restore Destined Death.
A key thing I don't think has been discussed is, why is Melina dependent on us for moving outside of Leyndell? As soon as we arrive she leaves us, and is free to move herself. But what about Leyndell makes her movement dependent on us?
She could be the gloam eyes queen's daughter and after Maliketh killed her mother he found her still an infant and chose to seal her eye rather than kill an innocent child
I feel like shes related to the gloam eyed queen but isnt the gloam eyed queen herself. Marika killed the gloam eyed queen but most likely tried to kill all her offspring as well to make sure noone could come for her power. So i feel Melina is the daughter of the gloam eyed queen.... I also feel like ranni is connected to Melina not only because of the eye and the similar disposition but also that ranni is the empyrean for the same other god of the gloam eyed queen.... Most likely Melina's death was a perfect cast whereas ranni was much less versed but tried it anyway causing her to require an anchor to the world where as melina is anchored to the tree itself...

A detail overlooked is that she is birthed at the base of the Erdtree. We know she requested to follow us to the tree to meet her mother, but it's never specifically stated that Marika is her mother. With her heavy association with Death, she could very well be a child of the Queen through some unknown means. Maybe Melina is a fragment of her soul, this can be backed with the fact she doesn't have a body, or any clue of who she really is.
We don't know if soul splitting is a thing here, but maybe in her defeat, she gave birth to Melina using her own soul. And now when you think about it, it's too good to be a coincidence that after using the Forge, you have to defeat Maliketh and release Destined Death back into the world to gain entry to the Erdtree, because you just freed the Gloam-eyed Queen's power
What really puzzle me about Melina is her final words to you at the Forge. Does it imply that Destined Death and the Frenzied Flame are sworn enemies? Or Death trying to safeguard the world from Chaos?
Another interesting note is how similar Melina and Ranni's Doll are in appearance.
Ranni's Doll is based on the appearance of the Snow/Ice Witch.
Since twins are a theme in this game, and since both Ranni AND Melina have items for the player that have to do with Torrent, my head canon is that Melina and Ranni's Mentor are twin sisters, and daughters of the Gloam Eyed Queen. Explains why their eyes are sealed.
Snow Witch probably went the opposite path of her mother, while Melina was unsure of what to do. Marika seems to be trying to kill herself at various points, and maybe this is the reason Melina was held in the Capital's tower: to safeguard her until someone was strong enough to kill Marika.
Ranni just happens to look similar because that's how her Doll's body looks. Almost like a double-hidden lore connection.
As far as Frenzied Flame goes, FF is everyone's enemy. It wants a total reset, and death of all living things.
Melina just wants to fix the Elden Ring, which was corrupted by Marika when she removed the Rune of Death. Melina's motivation is clearly stated when she warns that even though the world is bleak, life persists. Melina's goal morphs into "there is good here, and life here, I'll give my life to preserve it".

But my question isn't simply that: it's the fact that she's so against us burning the world that she would personally hunt us down knowing we've become the vassal of chaos itself. Perhaps like her mother before her, her job is to maintain the balance of the world (which she did poorly because bodied by a dog), she just happens to wield the power that can kill the gods themselves.

For Ranni's eye, i think it's simply where the body and soul meet. Like one of those tropes where your soul and your body each must close an eye so they can share sight (just a theory i pulled out of nowhere, so don't quote me on that). As for their relationship, there has been no hint on them being siblings other than them knowing each other through Torrent, then again, they all share the same trait that's being spectral lifeforms so you can draw a relation from that.
Back to main topic, Melina was likely created after the Ring was shattered so no way Marika could be her mother, especially when we know Melina has a gloam eye. We know that spirits are called back to the Erdtree so perhaps Melina being birthed at its base is a form of rebirth for the Gloam-eyed Queen. Now after some thinking, i think i must retract my theory on her planning to use you to restore death because as you stated, she wished to restore the world. And by extension, the balance of Life and Death since Marika fucked that up when she founded the Golden Order
Well, Marika is the only female person we know of to reside in the Erd tree.
So unless you want to concoct some theory that Marika imprisoned GEQ in the Erdtree while she was pregnant with Melina. And then she decided to pull an inquisition and burned the baby...

I think somewhere in some of the descriptions you can piece together that the gloam eyed queen was once close with the Royal Family, then she tried to overthrow them with the help of her Godskin followers, got beat, got banished. Which makes sense why she would need our help to get her back to where she was born, aka, the Erdtree. It’s an amazing story ngl
I think it’s possible, but I think it’s also weird how she’s also connected to Ranni. They are both similar looking and ranni’s spectral face is pretty much an exact match for melina’s. They both have a sealed eye and speak in the same manner. What’s more is that she uses a blade of calling as her weapon rather than something similar to the black knife, which wouldn’t make sense if she was the gloam eyed queen she’d likely use something with the god slaying black flame.
I believe Ranni's spectral face is just Ranni's face. Her body died, but her spirit remained; so, she uses a Puppet as her body. Hence, i think it's literally just the face of her spirit as it lives on through the puppet

My theory is that Melina is actually a unknown third child of Radagon and Marika. Honestly my only two bits of evidence for this theory is her name and the color of her hair. Her name obviously fits the naming scheme with Melania and Miquella. And her hair seems to be a perfect combination of Radagon and Marika's hair color. They've also shown that children of Marika specifically have all had some type of problem or abnormality. Her three children with Godfrey were Godwyn, Morgott, and Mohg. Morgott and Mohg we're 'cursed' as omen born, but Godwyn was the perfect child. And Melania and Miquella were born both cursed with Scarlett rot and eternal youth respectively.
Now even the timeline allows it. Aa well as messmer gives it more sense.

I have a theory that she was the gloam eyed queen in the past and then was given a rebirth with Radagon’s rune gofted to Renalla, then Given a new purpose by her mother Marika

The missing piece for the theory is HOW melina went from the Queen to her current self. I believe the answer is erdtree burial, which seems to recycle souls. Marika rebirthed the queen as a new being after that, most likely unnaturally.
Even though it was said the Gloam Eyed Queen was killed by Malekith, I think its possible that Queen Marika revived the Gloam Eyed Queen as Melina or she never truly died but only had the rune of death taken from her. Marika would have great use for someone this powerful capable of challenging the Greater Will, especially after its been speculated Marika was imprisoned for defying it. Just as its possible she had a hand in having the rune of death stolen from Malekith. Hopefully the DLC gives us more light on Marika and the Gloam Eyed Queen's history.
She could also have been a black knife assassin. When you summon her for morgot she has the same moves as an assassin and her move set and dagger are similar. And black knives also have destined death. Glomm eyed queen never had it. Instead they have the black flame which isn’t quite the same. Plus calling her the gloam eyed queen means she is an outta god, which if anything she would more likely be a vessel like marika
The gloam eyed queen could be Melina’s mother because Melina says in one of the churches of Marika that her mother set her on her journey
She at least becomes the Gloam-Eyed Queen. Likely because we not only became the instrument that brings upon chaos, but we denied Melina her destiny to burn the Erd tree.
I believe in your video on the subject you said the mark over Melina’s eye may be a claw that represents Destined Death, and I would argue it may be a more literal representation of Maliketh’s claw which houses and binds destined death until the frenzied flame ending

I find it interesting that both her and ranni have a strange connection to the rune of death, and they're the only characters to have an odd thing going on with their eyes (whether they're the same character or their eyes maybe being affected by the rune of death itself)
I thought that she made a reference to Marika as her mother though. My interpretation was that she is trying to end her mother's (Marika) suffering. My understanding of the gloam eyed queen was that she was an empyrean and a rival to Marika that was quickly put down and her power sealed with maliketh. It just seems like a stretch to me

My personal theory is that, in Marikas cycle of reincarnation, the gloam eyed queen died and was reborn through the Erdtree as Melina. It would make sense then why she has features and qualities of the gloam eyed queen without the actual memory of being her. Also would make sense that she was "born at the foot of the erdtree". Since she vaguely refers to Marika as a mother, would make sense if Marika kept an eye on Melina after her (re)birth, knowing she used to be such a power to be reckoned with. Even if people don't typically die and get reincarnated as a singular new person (more of a melting pot type situation), we don't really know what happens when a God/Demi God/Empyrean gets reborn through the Erdtree.
