Welcome to French beaded flowers 101! If you’ve always wanted to make French beaded flowers but always felt intimidated because it looks so hard, then you are in the right place.
Hi everyone, I’m Fen Li, designer here at the Bead Flora Studio, author to the book Bead Flora: the Revival of French beaded flowers and a bead instructor at the bead and button show. On this channel, I offer technique reference guides, tip videos, and free beaded flower tutorials just like this one. If you are new here and would like to learn more, consider subscribing.
Today’s project is the first project in my book: Spring Flowers. This is the 1st out of 6 technique practice projects from my book. This project is the ultimate beginners practice project because it will teach you three of the most basic techniques but it won’t take as long as a full flower project. We all love instant gratification! Myself included!
Yes, I’ve done this project on my channel when I first released my book but I wanted to remake it for this series I’m doing. And as I learned more about teaching...yes, I need to learn to how to teach... I have a lot more tips to share with you than when the book was written so that you can shorten your learning curve and be more successful when starting out to make French beaded flowers.
If you are a needle and thread beader, just know that it’s completely different than French beading where we use wire instead of thread. When you put the beads in place with thread, it looks absolutely perfect no matter your beading level. I used to dabble a bit with beadweaving. It’s different with wire. Just know that it’s okay if your first attempts are not perfect. Perfection comes from practice. Your first flowers will be messy but you need to start! Let’s start with your first messy flower!

Have been wanting to learn how to make flowers with seed beads, & just found your page. Was not able to watch it all but have it saved. If you don't have it in the instructions, & with me being new can you tell us how many beads you are using for each item? Thank you for sharing with us. Am so looking forward to trying & learning when my schedule will allow me.
Like Gayl... to make 5 flowers, it's 10 grams of petal color beads and 15 grams of green for leaves.

Dandelions have been on my wish list forever! I'm still trying to figure out the best way to make the leaves. It's kind of tricky.
how many beads do you load onto the wire for the petals. You already had them loaded on the wire but didn't mention how many beads or how many inches of beads you loaded. thank you
Hi Mary, for these flowers about 18 inches. I generally don't measure out the length of beads. The best thing to do is to string as much as you can on the wire. Though I will make a note to mention it on new videos :).

Can I use beads with 16 gauge floral stem wire. If so what size? Thanks
16 gauge wire to too thick to string beads on. use 24 gauge wire instead.
