I think less so an "American" accent and more of just a basic foreign accent in English most people (especially Europeans) have when they are proficient.
In the first clip she has a slight NZ accent with a few of her words but it really jumps out whenever she says New Zealand as New Zilind. That has our accent written all over it
@@Alexa_hope That makes no sense. Ever since Jennie debuted her accent has kind of faded before she was hanging out with ppl in the states. Her accent was also never heavy and ppl could perfectly understand it so why would she change it. She also used to talk about having an accent and joked with Lisa saying “why don’t u like New Zealand accent” why would she say that if she changed it
She more so has a mixed accent. She grew up in NZ, and you can kinda hear it, but a lot of her friends are Aussie (Troye Sivan, Rosé etc.) that she spends a lot of time with and she partially lives in the USA and you can hear both those influences as well when she speaks. Her accent sounds so fancy.
Right now her accent is more americanized, but is a mix. I love the kind of slow pace of her speech and tone like if she were dancing ballet, luxurious.
04:43 that accent tho 🔥 see, in their early years Jennie's used to have a stronger accent, even tho the accent still there nowadays its not as strong as it was in the early years of the group, love her English, can't wait for The Idol
If you listen carefully Jennie's accent is a mixture of American/Australia/New Zealand Accent. But more towards American. I work in a company that on a daily basis talk to Americans', Australians' and New Zealanders'
@skylercharmaine bruh just because you've known OF them for years doesn't mean you're right, going somewhere for a trip doesn't mean you lived there lol
I can’t believe how wrong people get Jennie - she’s one of the sweetest Kpop idols and so god damn funny, not to mention talented - those who called her a bitch etc need their brains testing! 🖤💞
In totality, I wouldn’t call her accent a New Zealand one but as a Kiwi myself, I can’t deny that I hear it peep through very strongly on certain words. All in all it’s a hybrid accent between American and Kiwi and oddly enough British at times which is like the mother of the NZ accent. Her accent is very inconsistent as I don’t think she puts much effort into maintaining a linear accent, it’s very all over the place. On debut, it was very strong and she sounded just like a local but now, it’s virtually undetectable aside from a few words that are evidently not American sounding. I have read into this a lot and hybrid accents are often formed by people from non-English speaking countries that travel a lot. Hope this clears things up for people in the comments wondering what’s up with her accent these days. It’s the Jennie accent.
Her kiwi accents show in some of her words, but then changes English to American accent it’s mixed tho. Her accent cute tho 🙂❤ I’m from NZ. Probably cause she travel a lot and influence of different places reflects on her accent.
Her accent is not american but its not kiwi either Its a unique mix of a couple of accents she has picked up and thats normal for multilingual people really
I can notice her American accent in other interviews, her accent do not stand out, she seems speaking normal English to me, since I have learnt NZ acent English as my second language as well. ^^
A like her English, caz English is not my first language, and when I hear American English I don’t understand every thing, but when jannie speak English I understand every thing she says 😊
Her accent isn’t kiwi, I’ve heard many people with a kiwi accent and she doesn’t sound like that. Jennie isn’t actually from New Zealand, she just studied there for a bit.
That keeper comment for Jisoo works better with fishing than soccer(futbol). As in a fish one would keep rather than release. So she is a girl one would keep to be a girlfriend or wife. I am sure all her Korean fans would agree.
Rosé was born in NZ , lived there for 8 years Then moved to Australia, lived there for 8 years Then moved to Korea Jennie was born in Korea, lived there for 10 years Then moved to NZ , lived there for 5 years Then moved back to korea
she doesn't and never had a kiwi accent.. she lived there for 5 years so her accent is bound to fade over time. She's lived in Korea most of her life so thats why the pronunciation of her english words don't sound as smooth as compared to Rose who's lived in Australia for most of her life growing up and practiced communicating english more than Jennie and, she is actually australian. On top of this, English isn't her first language, whereas for rose, it is. As an australian it's easy to identify kiwi accents as its sorta similar to ours but has a deeper twang. she doesn't have a kiwi accent.
I’m a New Zealand so I already have it on better authority than you. Jennie’s accent has always been a hybrid ever since debut which is expected. She never lived here long enough to pick up complete English fluency but she’s just about there. If she had finished her high schooling education here, I think she would definitely not have been prone to picking up other accents like it seems she has. On debut, she had quite a thick Kiwi accent mixed with an American accent which she undoubtedly picked up from the media and content she was consuming. There are several videos that show how strong her accent was in her debut days but it has changed a lot. Her accent is a bit of a mess now tbh, and that’s because she’s probably had very little to zero interaction with her Kiwi language ancestry. I can still here it peep out in certain words she says now, but it’s definitely not very strong anymore, but any New Zealander would be able to point out an accent and would probably ask “Has this girl spent time here?”. We are very good at discerning our accent in people’s speech because it’s quite distinct. Hope this gives some insight to your comment. Oh and spending 5-6 years in a foreign country as a youngster is ample time to pick up an accent!
@@guardevwar1234 i agree. i think the kiwi accent is a lot more distinct than ours. if you read my comment you would see that i did imply that she picked up the accent at one point in time, but that she's losing it because of how little time she's spent there and interacted with kiwis since. I have a lot of friends who are kiwis too and i can spot their accents from a mile away just because its so distinct, whereas with Jennie, it was rather rare occasions when her accent really showed, at most i feel it sounds Australian. This is just what i hear and you don't have to agree with me or justify my words! i was just sharing my thoughts in the comment . 😁
Her accent is mixed. This makes sense as she spends time travelling the whole and she probably has voce coaches to help her appeal to the international audience - thus mainly American accent influenced.
English Accent same ok why because there are many reasons that are silly such as acting and artful accent and purely beautifying or simply beautifying the accent of an English or country but it is only one language. 😂😅❤❤
mmmm i dont think that accent is from New Zeland unless there is a part in the US that has that accent... she probably hangs out with a lot of Americans casue that sounds a lot for me as Ameircan Accent most of it..
same her pronunciation is so clear and slow more american than kiwi, kiwis is one of the hardest accent to understand and they talk fast but Jennie's is clear
Nah she doesnt have the kiwi accent , did you not know that New Zealand is one of the hardest accent to understand coz of how they pronounced words they are even harder than aussies others are even make fun of the accents kiwis talk too fast too they sound like theyre rapping , and Jennie's pronunciation is clear and understandable , she sounds just like a typical korean speaking english maybe american accent too but not kiwi
she definitely had a kiwi accent when they debuted, throughout the years her accent has faded but in some words that she pronounces i can still hear the kiwi accent
Jennie has her own accent but it’s amazing.
I can listen to her voice all day ❤
As a New Zealander I've noticed that over the years her accent has gone from a New Zealand accent to a American accent.
I think less so an "American" accent and more of just a basic foreign accent in English most people (especially Europeans) have when they are proficient.
Agreed
Cause she works with Teddy a lot and most The Black Label producers are American.

When she first debuted in 2016, you can clearly hear her Kiwi accent. Although it kinda disappear throughout the years.
I wouldn’t even say it’s clear then.
