I honestly thought that in the early stages we would have a bunch of what is now the TML C trains to simplify the option. But I was wrong, one, due to the east west corridor, the trains were modified, and two, for safety regulations, the new trains needed to have emergency exit ramps at the ends, so the SP 1900s being modified to 9 cars wasn’t an option.
It was sad today when I was on TungChung line it’s sad to see the MLR now gone and the M trains on the subways that are gonna be scrapped Sai Wan Ho Depot has a M train today I saw being torn to pieces…😢😢

Saw e96/e77 in near Lo wu station and also e112 e71 in Ho tung lau depot (these ones that I’ve mentioned are still preserved in their 12 car condition) e110 e61/ e114 e67 are scrapped but they still kept the 1st and their 12th car (first and last car) they are kept near e96 e77
Also, the R trains doors are not aligned perfectly with the MLR, and since the Cross harbor PSD is for the R train the MLR and IKK cant operate in the new section

@@SFsRailDepotI really dont know why the east rail line is going from 12 cars to 9. they could've had made some R trains 12 cars (will mostly operate during rush hour) and some 9 cars.
The 12 car trains cannot cross the harbour and cannot stop at the new Hung Hom platforms. This will add unnecessary complexity to the line and passengers.
To clear up confusion as to why MLR isnt changing lines: Its the slowest train in all of MTR, with the slowest acceleration and slowest deceleration, which may result in overruning or underruning APGs and PSD on the TML. This also means that the MLR cant climb up or go down as it may go too fast beyond its altitudinal handling, or may come to a stop on high climbs. Also, a 3-car MLR went to pat heung depot for decommission testing. Pulled by diesels as the diesels have more altitudinal power than the MLR trains. I hope this explains.
@@TanVasinTrains Its still there, not testing with diesels as far as i know, i believe the E44 may not be decommissioned. Also, MLR isnt the first electric trains of HK, M trains are. (First M train was made in 1978)
@@tselongkiu7393 I am not sure about the actual specifications of either train's acceleration but I can confidently say the R train's acceleration is a LOT faster than the old trains. A much needed change to increase frequency. Top speeds are not that impressive when the acceleration is slow, meaning trains can't achieve top speeds as much over short distances. And a slight correction the R train's top speed is actually 130kmh and the MLRs could only do 120kmh.
