I was born and raised in Lockerby. I left in 85 and don't get back much. Mom passed away just 5 months before this was filmed. No matter where I live, I'll always be a Sudburian.
SUDBURY IS A JEWEL, don't let anyone on here say otherwise, many of friends moved away and now they have returned to live, they know what they miss. We have diverse group of people, that true northerns. Best place to live, so many beautiful lakes, forest, nature etc.
It is a nice place. I've done a number of videos on cities and towns in Ontario and there's always someone with something bad to say about the place. It's the 'grass is greener syndrome'...
maybe next year will be moving there with my wife, looks like a beautiful place for starting a new life in Canada, we want to be good citizens and part of Sudbury
Lol this is hilarious, came across this vid on youtube and within 8 seconds I knew exactly where I was in Sudbury...The kicker is I haven't been there in 30 years. might have been a good guess but maybe not, I said to myself that's right by the Sudbury arena. LOL Oh how things don't change much...in that area. LOL
Having lived there in the 40s, I'm shocked at how many vacant properties there are in downtown Sudbury. Moved away in middle 50s when it was a downtown not a ghost town
Tom I am planning to move to Sudbury at a location your drove by on Larch Street that tall building where only seniors are allowed to move there. You have to be 50+ and I am 52. All my doctors are in Sudbury and I need to closer to them. Right now I live in French River and I have to depend on my landlord to drive me there to get to my appointments. I miss the city living I am fed up with the country living. No place to go when you don't have a vehicle. I used to live in Oshawa, so I know about small City living and coming from the largest city in Canada Toronto which I would never go back there to live too expensive. Anyways Tom I just wanted to say thanks for sharing this video. Oh and I've been on that bridge of International flags couple of times.....
Wayne McLaughlin Too bad you can't stay in French River - beautiful area. My son moved back home from Sudbury in the fall so I don't have an excuse to get up that way anymore...
That water tower is iconic. Downtown Sudbury, like a lot of Ontario downtowns has lots of addiction issues, poverty. You needed to drive by Deluxe Hamburgers on Regent St. next time, also that crazy intersection by the train tracks at Regent & Lorne, I got totally mixed up there. I don't find the place to be that miserable though, interesting spots, Bell Lake etc. Lots of history, next time up there I want to see the Toe Blake Arena in Coniston, just because!
I've been up to Timmins and Kirkland Lake and camped at Wakami Lake but have never driven that northern route across - always go through the Soo and Wawa to TBay. Plan on doing it soon, though...
Homeless have work to do too. Many homeless in North America choose addiction and irresponsibility over getting clean. In the USA and Canada there is a sub culture of youth who actually chose to not work or live by any rules. This adds to the overall problem.
Where the world's biggest nickle. ? I have to drive to Sudbury, if I go I sure as hell have to see that nickle. Why make a video and not show the big nickle. Now I won't know where it is. Thanks a lot
In the people's defense, it was around 7am! However, as with other cities like Barrie and Guelph, it's the parking fees that are surely keeping everyone from the downtown areas - parking is always free at the mall...
Should show it during the winter months. The when elderly cant put money in the meter because of snow banks 6 feet high. They still get a ticket though. It's not a jewel. Downtown is not maintained, every other corner has a drug dealer wanting to sell to you. The other corners have homeless begging for change or smokes. Sudbury is a beautiful town, the downtown core is not, when the city refuses to clean it up, by removing the homeless, drug dealers or even snowbanks the rest of the city turns their backs. This is exactly what has happened here.
I believe you. I've never lived there, only visited many times, so my view of the city is tainted. The city might have these issues, but they're not entirely unique to Sudbury. I've put up many of these downtown videos from cities in Ontario and Quebec. Almost always, there are similar comments to yours from people who live in those places. I think the bigger picture is our government. We must be the only country in the world that profits off addiction. Please, buy alcohol, drugs and gamble your paycheck away. Then, come to us for treatment. All the while, we'll misspend your money to make the rich voters happy and convince the rest of the world how great we are.
I’ve never been under the flag bridge before I’ve seen like 100 Sudbury wolves games at the Sudbury arena and have played many games there aswell Ooh I’ve seen that abstract building a lot Yes. Downtown is so cool Passed the place where we sealed the deal on buying our house Is that the water tower I see Theatres Timmies My sisters old daycare! Where my grandma used to work! Now she works at the Credit Union Alright I’m done see me later
Apartments are typically around CAD $600 a month at the cheapest to $1200 for the most expensive for a 1 bedroom. You can expect to pay around $100 a month for good internet and about $150 for food. Gas is currently around $1.30 per litre so fuel of around $60 per month is normal. Bus passes are free if you are a student at LU and very cheap if you are at Cambrian. The city is very spread out but if you stay in the student areas there's lots of things close by.
Hi Raghvender, how was your experience? I am probably moving there from Australia next year, I wondering if is there something to do to get some cash as a student.
Unfortunately homeless are everywhere name a city town that has no homeless people, as for the people the downtown is empty because of the people elected to run the city if you where to drive the whole city you would find new Sudbury full of box stores life!!! etc or the four corners.

The city still has some nice old buildings. Too bad so many were demolished back in the day. Sudbury lost some true architectural treasures.
Man... I miss it. I didn't think I would miss it so much. But I really really do. It's always going to be home.

Why is people leaving Sudbury?
@@fannycontreras8294 Lots of people seeking handouts, druggies in the downtown area. No longer feels safe to be out and about in downtown.

I was in Sudbury a couple of years ago and it was interesting to see all the winding, hilly roads. Very unlike the cities in the GTA.
Is this a good or a bad thing?
did you see the homeless and addicted? They are very much a part of the scenery@@calamistify

Nicer place than I ever would have expected. Ya, that 'intersection' at Regent and Lorne is a real head-scratcher...
Thanks a bunch for this. :D
Thank you.
I was living there for long time and I moved away from Sudbury. Is not bad if you live in the new area.
whats up with the music ? Are we in Texas ?
Maybe your in Scotland where the hillbilly originated. 🤣
Great Tour....Expecially Sudbury...my kinda area closing up to NorthWestern Ontario to Longlac and Thunder Bay

We don’t live in a western town what is up with the music lol
I, personally, found nothing wrong with the music, it was a mix of sorts that suited the pace of the video.
😆😅
Lol
Better tell that to Wayne and Katy there bud
Ok bud, eh?
a wonderful tour of the streets of the homeless, Sudbury has a lot to do in helping the people that need help!!!
Was there last month - it certainly hasn't improved.

How cold is It in Sudbury? I am an engineer applying for work in Sudbury but little response.
Winters are freezing, snowy and mostly cloudy. summers are comfortable and partly cloudy.
Hi Tom, I would like to know how well people drive in Sudbury. I heard there are plenty of bad drivers over there. What's your opinion?
Not bad drivers - just bad roads
