You will never find someone who realy has Combat Expirience who says Conor is not one of the best to ever step Foot in the Octagon only Haters talk bad about him because he knocked there Guy out or Lost to one of there Guys you cant denie how good he is great Channel btw great Vid!
His shoulder joints are also extremely relaxed. This allows for the increase in reach and speed you were talking about. Bruce Lee preached this technique of fluidity and looseness in the shoulder joints. Great Video as always man, thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge with your fans!
RIP Bruce Lee. He was so far ahead of his time, a legend...he was clean, efficient, powerful and trained specific muscle groups to enhance his abilities. Love seeing guys like Jon Jones, McGregor, Mike Tyson give Bruce the respect he deserved. He wasn't just an "actor" he was a legit martial artist who basically invented MMA
Simple, direct, and pinpoint analysis. One other thing I've noticed is how loose and flexible Conor's shoulders and waist seem to be compared to most other MMA fighters when throwing punches. I'd say you have that same type of relaxed poise (for lack of a better word) in your upper body. I think it's a facet of striking mechanics that is evident in the difference between how boxers and MMA guys throw their punches and explains why boxers, overall, seem to be able to punch harder than MMA guys of the same size. As you said, the power of a good punch originates from the feet and travels through your body in a kinetic chain. Any additional tension along that chain is going to slow the punch down and take away from its power quite a bit. That's one reason why bodybuilders and lifters generally can't hit as hard as one imagines. Huge muscles but their training makes them walk around perpetually flexed on a level they can't even detect. I've always been fascinated by how much of a balancing act guys like you have to do in order to build and maintain that base level of musculature/strength and yet stay loose and flexible enough to accelerate and snap in the right way to strike with power. What's funny is that Chinese internal martial arts always preach about that kind of relaxation, but in modern times they completely disregard all those other things like strength conditioning and sparring with contact that are necessary to be an effective fighter. Awesome job with the vids. Keep it up.
The biggest thing I think everyone overlooks is the physics of Conor's body - primarily torque and leverage. Like you say, the power of a punch comes from the legs, the momentum drives up through the foot and the leg, turns the hips, rotates the torso, then the shoulder, and the fist at the end has a kind of elastic effect, like a baseball pitcher's arm. Conor has a narrow waist, but more importantly extremely wide shoulders, which amplifies the rotational force his body can create. Think about a plane propeller or helicopter blades. The tip of the blades are moving way, way, way faster than the base - the further you go out from the centre, the faster they're moving. The difference in width between Conor's hips and shoulders does the same thing, essentially allowing him to create more rotational force, i.e. torque. Torque = acceleration. Look at any Tesla in a drag race. They don't have insane power but they destroy anything off the line, because they have massive amounts of torque available instantly. Also, ever noticed Conor's pecs look a bit funny? They have an unusual shape, not as full lower down, with more of the muscle mass resting higher & wider in the muslce than normal. I'm pretty sure you'd find that his insertion points (where the muscle is attached to the bone) are lower down his arm than average, meaning further away from the shoulder joint. This creates leverage, very similar to how wider shoulders = more torque, that distance from the point of rotation allows more power to be created. Think about a see-saw - how much more effort does it take trying to move it near the centre, instead of at the end where you sit? The further out, the more leverage you have, which again acts as an amplifier for whatever power you exert. Combine the torque amplifier of Conor's wide shoulders with the leverage amplifier of his pectoralis muscle, and you've got a double whammy. Also the fact that his sideways stance means his punch movement is much more pec dominant with less deltoid engagement (pecs > delts), plus fast twitch muscle fibres... all combines to create a monster straight left that mystifies his opponents.
Awesome break down but I think you missed a key point about his right hand. Not only can it help with distance as you mentioned but it makes every one of his opponents hesitate the jab if they're orthodox because his hand is in the way. He's always patting their jab hand. So it's inevitable that he'll force them into a cross which he basically anticipates at all times making the left counter easy with a simple. Backwards moving, halfstep-slide-launch. Lethal left. I hope Steven Thompson agrees with me lmao

Hi Stephen, huge fan here. I'm a karate practitioner myself under the tutelage of the Machidas here in Lomita, CA and I was wondering if you could do a video perhaps breaking down the differences between their style of karate, which I believe is Shotokan based, and yours which you've mentioned is Kempo, if I'm not mistaken, in one of your videos. I kind of understand the difference, namely the footwork being different as yours is more a side stance and Machida is more a front stance but I think for both my interest and perhaps the interests of your fans who mostly see all styles of karate as the same thing this would be a cool video to do. Thanks!

Hey stephen! Love the videos! i was wondering if you made a video about how to use fakes and false strikes in combinations to take advantage of your opponents head movement? If not id love one thank you very much
Love your videos! Honestly, just keep showing us your assessments on movement, not many can break it down as well as you can. One thing I'd love to get a break down of is your knockout of Dan Stittgen, namely because of the way you throw your back foot head kick off of the stepping cross and your shoulders are turned past the center line of your opponent. It's crazy because it seems like it telegraphs to your opponent that maybe you've over-committed and exposed yourself for a counter, but then your foot comes trailing at the last second and smacks him square on the button. How are you able to throw the kick after you've turned your shoulders that far past your opponent, keep it so low prior to impact, and generate power while doing it. This kick boggles my mind!
would love to see your techniques for blitzing (how to setup, footwork, angling off etc.) really loving your content man thank you for taking the time to make these!
How about a video on mastering a flow state/ultra flow state? I've gotten into these states before and during boxing and jiu jitsu bouts but I'd like to know how you personally get there? Keep up the great content, Sir!
Stephen, first of all thanks from argentina. Im practising sanda (chinese boxing), this quarentine prolonged my debut, but I have the bag, I can still do shadows. Im testing stances (everithing starts from the feet): flat footed, on the toes, wide stance, short, semiwide and the list goes. Im starting to prefer the wide-sided stance as you say, following your advices, and i'm seeing 2 guys as welm to get toghether tips and inspirations: muslim salikhv and zabit magomedeshadipov. Both apples from the sanda tree. If you can, please make a deconstruction of any of them, establish your insight, give us a clean perspective in a technique tuesday (my favourite item for far). Thanks again, keep doing this, its both motivational and inspirational.
Stephen, thank you for your videos. With all due respect to your technique, your front foot should pivot to face forward as you throw your punch. Here are the reasons: 1. You don’t want to twist your knee laterally. 2. When your foot turns your hips have more mobility to allow for more power. 3. Your balance is better. 4. you can angle off better. You’re awesome! Keep up the great work.
Dude your freaking awesome that's all i have to say. Also I'm not a Ufc fan i'm more of a boxing fan but every since i discovered you, you are the only UFC fighter that i'm watching. I refuse to watch anyone else. I know you're a special type of fighter and very knowledgeable which when it comes to any combat sport are the fighters i become an instant fan of. Anyway, i would like to see more videos on different variations of kicks you know, i saw the woodley fight 1 and 2 literally today and it looked very much like a Aggression Vs Technique type of fight which i loved as well. You showed you where the far more superior fighter in the skills department .
I'm curious as to what you think about fighters with long reach having a more sideways stance for more powerful straights.. a name that comes to mind would be someone like Kevin Lee being 5'9" with arms that belong on someone who is 6'5". Id think he should be able to use his reach to effectively keep opponents off him with a more sideways stance, and then be able to explode in to take someone down to steal a round of them.
Please do a video on how to act when being pushed by an aggressive fighter because when I spar with Muay Thai guys it’s very difficult when they manage to close the distance similar to what Woodley was trying to do in your fight
Wonder boy thank you very much for your videos can you post some commentated sparring videos of yours or fight videos of yours so that we can learn your style of kickboxing.THANK YOUUUU DO MUCH
Hey wonder boy I would really appreciate it if you could answer this question for me since you in my opinion are the best striker in the ufc when it comes to technique. Latly the UFC uploaded a fight between Anderson Silva and Dan Henderson, and I've noticed something that Anderson does that no one else does in the ufc: at the beginning of the fight he threw 3 front kicks to the face, and I noticed that he had the most RELAXED and snappy kicks I've ever seen, his legs were completely loose and the kicks were effortless. The only thing similar to that is actually conor Mcgregor's punches, I think he has the most lose shoulders in the UFC. I have been studying conor's style of fighting for around four years and I've based my own style on what he does, and my arms and shoulders are very relaxed and I feel like that gives me a massive speed and power advantage. My question is how can I do that with my legs?? I tried copying Anderson but for some reason my kicks don't feel lose and I just cant get that "chain ball" effect with my kicks, maybe a little with the round kicks but not with front kicks or head kicks, I want to throw my kicks kinda like a whip if you know what I mean. What can I do to get that, is it a technical issue or is it flexibility/mobility, or do I just need to throw more kicks???, since I primarily box, and throw kicks here and there. I would love to hear your opinion on this, since you are the only one other than Anderson Silva qualified to answer this question in my opinion. Thank you so much in advance.
I would like a video on wether it is possible to start fighting training at like 29 and be able to go pro in 1/2 years. Connecting to your Conor video I think that that way of fighting (focusing on counter, distance and balance) can be a great way to burn steps and overcome lack of power of speed in older people like me. Am I right?
I think it's important to say that unorthodox stances are only for the professional who know how to do them perfectly and are experienced. toohard2hurt made a video about stances and stance switching

The timing and precision of Connors left hand is remarkable, and your explanation is on point. My friend who is an amateur boxer explained it as a "dip and slip" for most of Connors counter KOs. How the crap can you train this type of reaction??
Why do you think Conor has so much success with his left hand??
I think it's a bit similar to pacquiao. He punches through a target than throwing a couple of combinations at the target.

Hey stephen! Love the videos! i was wondering if you made a video about how to use fakes and false strikes in combinations to take advantage of your opponents head movement? If not id love one thank you very much
What’s the secret to not sounding like TWood in the recording studio
preach!
Awesome video, Stephen! You da man! Fun video and educational. :D -Stars aka Dave
love the video. can you break down the variety of punches you, conor or other fighters use and when is it ideal to use them? thank you very much!
Your new intro is the catchiest thing I've ever head. Love it. And thanks for the great content. Been dinging my shins everyday because of you. 🤙
Great content WB. Would love to see some setups off leg sweeps and picks. Thanks from Canada!!
would love to see your techniques for blitzing (how to setup, footwork, angling off etc.) really loving your content man thank you for taking the time to make these!
Love your videos Wonderboy!! Keep 'em coming man, best of luck!!!

I had to give that like when I saw tony's entrance into the video
How about a video on mastering a flow state/ultra flow state?
I've gotten into these states before and during boxing and jiu jitsu bouts but I'd like to know how you personally get there?
Keep up the great content, Sir!
Is Stephen Wonderboy Thompson I have a question do you have a video that has like exercises for switching stances
Thanks again, keep doing this, its both motivational and inspirational.
thats the video which may make me adapt the karate style...
I am interested in amateur fights and i am between beginer and intermediate
Id think he should be able to use his reach to effectively keep opponents off him with a more sideways stance, and then be able to explode in to take someone down to steal a round of them.
man you are one of the most chill bad nice guy giving such good advice !
Latly the UFC uploaded a fight between Anderson Silva and Dan Henderson, and I've noticed something that Anderson does that no one else does in the ufc:
at the beginning of the fight he threw 3 front kicks to the face, and I noticed that he had the most RELAXED and snappy kicks I've ever seen, his legs were completely loose and the kicks were effortless.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge WB ✊🏼
Just love your videos man, you're awesome! I'm practice Kyokushin for 15 years and obviously love Karate as well. Keep up the good work 💪
Wow the bench press comparison was spot on!
Thank you Wonderboy, great vid! Question: What do you think of the Triathlon myth to prepare a fight?
I would like a video on wether it is possible to start fighting training at like 29 and be able to go pro in 1/2 years.
Connecting to your Conor video I think that that way of fighting (focusing on counter, distance and balance) can be a great way to burn steps and overcome lack of power of speed in older people like me. Am I right?
That was a great vid Mr.Thompson!
You are my favourite mma fighter.Congrats Master.
Thanks for the insight wonderboy. I’m just getting into mma and this is absolutely perfectly . Appreciate the insight
a question, what is the difference between the karate you practice and that of Lyoto Machida?
You the man boy. Such a humble man you're still remember your match with woodely
I think it's important to say that unorthodox stances are only for the professional who know how to do them perfectly and are experienced. toohard2hurt made a video about stances and stance switching
stephen thompson pls do a vedio on the side karate stance
I love the new intro bro. It's sick🤙
It's really a short in depth video, please continue making such type of videos Bro, 😎😎😎👌👌👌👌👍👍🤗
Much respect from up the mountain in Hendersonville.
If you ask Conor he's gonna say ''Ets moy Oirish Pawer yeou sonava bietch , youll do nootin''
so, i started BJJ in jan 19, got a couple of stripes but have never practiced strikes. I'm way more fit now. lost 50lbs. I'm ready to up the ante. any suggestions for a noob. BTW the footwork content has paid off. i'm a lot faster bouncing. TY WONDERBOY BIIIIIIIIG FAN!!! looking for that ULTRA instinct!!!!
Haha the entrance of sweet T.
You guys are awesome!
Love to see the shoutout to mindsmash aswell!
i love you wonderboy you bring so much to the game and always so real
The timing and precision of Connors left hand is remarkable, and your explanation is on point.
My friend who is an amateur boxer explained it as a "dip and slip" for most of Connors counter KOs. How the crap can you train this type of reaction??
I've always felt comfortable with karate stance and this motivated me to keep improving on it
I think that you are one of the nicest UFC fighters out there.
Stay awesome.
I just want to see you alive and well, just like the way you are man, keep up the good work!! And good content!! 🤙🏻
