Mr. Malhotra some of us are not lucky enough to attend a school on the level of Harvard to have the chance to listen to a man like yourself and that's a shame because its easy to see why these " lucky" people have a leg up on us. Thank you for posting these talks and I pray you are able to post more. I'm 57 tears old and I listen to these over and over again to get the inspiration needed to move forward. I never had the experience of being on a campus like Harvard and get that experience of listening to something that would alter the course of life SO these talks are priceless! PLEASE see your way to post more and I THANK YOU for your time and help you don't know that you are giving threw these chats !!!! THANK YOU SIR
+Deepak Malhotra Sir, This goes in the list of the best lectures I've even watched, and you sir went to the list of my role models ! Even your story, your path, your needs and skills that drew the current point of your path, this resonates with me so well that I am welling to consider your decision (not that it didn't cross my mind before). Thanks again for this inspiration.
I'm watching this video every often since 2012 that's when I discovered it.. every time I watch it, I learn something new.. Thank you, Sir DM. God bless you.
What he is describing about his life is what I call the "Genius Trilemma". You're so good at everything that choosing one thing would be to surgically remove so many other passions from your life. You become so free to do what you will that your freedom entombs you.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. This is one of my favourite speeches. I keep watching it every now and then as it is a kind of an adviser for me. I also brought one of his books and it is helping me learn new skills that I never explore before. I wish one day I could meet you him in person and listen another great speech.
Thanks Deepak on that hopeful lecture. I'm 35 years old and after listening to this video I've decided to quit my job..I've been working there for 16 years and it was because of my personal circumstances I couldn't quit earlier. However I've now realised it is my mindset I need to change. I've recently lost my mum to cancer and I wish I had watched this earlier because it all makes sense now. Why waste time on a job you don't like and don't want to be in, if I had known better then I could have valued the importance of time. Much appreciated! Thank you.
Thanks Deepak for a truly thought inspiring talk. We just watched as a family. You need to be listened to by a lot of people in our country. Honestly, don't make the cardinal error of restricting yourself to Negotiation alone....
You have just made me realize, that quitting part is why I’ve advanced in life beyond where all my contemporaries are, everytime I quit I’ve ended up finding something better (I quit poverty, I quit ignorance I quit patriarchy I quit stupid religious beliefs and traditions in my journey so far) I most especially felt that nugget about perseverance being easier to do than quitting, it’s helping me understand why so many good people are stuck in places they deserve better than.
When I was in grad school, my dept head once told me several years ago, "know when to quit" and I consider that to be one of the best pieces of advice I've had to-date. What I call "Institutional-loyalism" is one of the primary reasons why people could be unhappy. This is a great talk and I think it's on par with Steve Jobs' talk.
One of the great things about going to good schools is meeting and having an association with smart people like you. I had fun listening to all you had to say, because in this I got something from you, but all I can give you back right now is 'Thank you'.
Dear Professor Deepak Malhotra we teachers and students of Business Schools in India do find your words as down to earth practical in our country . However I leave others to make their personal opinions about your speech.
Bro understood criticism in most Ways your better when you don’t wanna do Than When you do it by non sense Guy is a genius Social understanding of a business effective point you can relate in any society, city, community, firm or surrounding Why are we here? What do we do? What’s the purpose? Do we criticise our choices? Do we make it sure that we learn? Stay in touch with your ambitions And ability to stay by the people who will crtitcize and help you
We can learn so much from what you said, about making decisions in our lives and quitting so that we can cultivate our essence. I'm greatly inspired by your life story. Thank you for sharing this speech which will be a guide for the upcoming and future decisions I make in my career.
I am starting my MBA in October and I was very impressed with your speech. It was thought provoking and gave me a different perspective on the world and why many of us are unhappy. I must buy your book soon and have a read of it Thanks once again
Hello Deepak Sir, Your are one of the few people who have a great clarity in thoughts, and we (Indians) are really proud of you. Sir one of my friend recommended this video, and after watching, i recollected that i too have the same though process. Soon i will update you abt the decisions /changes in my life Great to know you
glad to see your speech in the youtube, I am also quitting, my job frequently, when ever i feel uneasy or unhappy, which gives more knowledge, experiences, and more & more confident for making good decision.
Deepak, I totally agree with you that one should quit quickly if s/he doesn't enjoy the task/job. Life comes only once and it's important to get as much as happiness possible of course by not being immoral or unethical.
Deepak, Great Speech! You have a lot of heart and that is what made your speech so powerful. I think the idea of quitting often may be a slight mistake. Our generation has gotten to used to quitting early. Your idea is rooted in finding who you are and reaching your full potential. I agree with that. God has given you a gift you should consider giving more inspirational speeches to help people find their way in life.
Love the way you have made it so simple for people to understand and stop making mess of their life. There could not be valuable then helping people achieve and live their true potential.
It made me think. All the while I have been running in a race to nowhere just to crawl up to my parents expectations while I never liked what I do(not that I am not good at coding).I am gonna quit! Thanks Deepak!!!
WOW. Very nice thank you very much for sharing. The line that amazed me. Made me smile and say out loud in my car was when he said. I already have something very expensive. The option to quit if I feel like it. Brings you into a whole other universe of happiness knowing you are in control of your life
I think Prof Malhotra kind of went with the tone when someone asked how can he quit at later age in life. All those who are in advanced age will tend to agree. I think it is the degree to which you will quit, there is a age when you can just change or quit but there is a age when you can quit to your tolerance level. Most people know their underlying theme as age advances and they don't have to quit more often. But anyway I could not ignore and watched it on my phone with full heart. I got confused few times with Deepak Chopra but at the end knew this is not Dr. Sanjay Gupta even but Prof Deepak Malhotra of art of negotiation. It is always a nice thing to hear anyone coming from India or attached to Indianism when US ignores biggest elections with no headline and so many Indian Professors speak their heart to their students than linear knowledge of others. Nice talk, I did quit in my life as many times as I wanted and I am going to do that again at advanced age though this decision was taken before the talk and I have very drastically different conditions than majority. Prof Malhotra did mention that when basic needs are at stake you may not be able to quit which I think is still possible, it is just one life but you have to know by going through NDE.
Sir, it was a great learning from your speech. Thanks for helping me understand, that quitting for an appropriate reason is actually for winners of tomorrow.
Quitting reminded me the maze algorithm in computer science.Algorithm helps to find the exit by traversing the wrong paths and at last it finds the true path. Some people finds the path to exit fast some finds slower, some never finds. Thank you Prof.Deepak, Sincerly a student who are not sure if he find the exit...
Hi Sir, It was really a good speech, Lot of people don't know where to start,n where to stop and This speech is not for making a carrier. this speech is really lovable and true for selecting a carrier what each and every humans have in their inner-heart hiding for external needs There are 2 lines which is very powerful "Don't quit something it is hard Quit something because it sucks" & "Quitting is crazy ??? Doing something for the rest of your life is not right for you .. That's what crazy"
Dear Professor, Great talk and very motivating. I just loved the clarity of thought you have. Many of us (at least I) lack that clarity of purpose or are caught up on the societal influences on our decisions. Great and clear takeaways. Thank you very much.
Great talk Professor, it is 100% true, and it is very important to do what you enjoy doing... and make choices accordingly in life, very inspiring talk to do right things in one's life...
Good speech. Quit early n quit often resembles to my lyf. Finally i am doing something that i really lyk n the fun part is i never knew about this quality in me. The point is when u do a job or something then money don't matter much. U automatically make money without thinking about it much coz u r giving ur 100% to ur work. But when u r nt happy frm inside n think ur job a routine that has to be completed u won't be happy even though u r making lot of money coz money can't buy happiness.
I wish If I herd it in 2005 as I entered into career crisis in between where I was no longer enjoying the work. Still it took me 6 years to quit that work.
Professor, I was wondering if you believe quitting to pursue passion is for everyone (assuming there's nothing holding them back like finances or family), and whether the risk of doing so is worth the rewards, because people might never find out what they want to do in life.

Seems like I missed a lot not being into one of the biggest schools in the world. Awesome teacher with excellent persuasions.

Definition of Tragedy and Genius was interesting. Also, the way Prof connected the two. Briliant speech overall!
I wish he elaborated more on the long-term negative impact of being a "thief" because those that steal aren't as inspired by positive reinforcement.
Thanks for this professor. Hopefully one day you can come to the LSE and give such an amazing talk.
WOW.

This completely changed my perception of HBS, for the better.
I find your speeches very inspiring. To be happy is so important.
Love this speech !:)
a lot of wisdom transmitted in 1h, enjoyed the speech very much.
Hello Sir Your speech is very inspiring
Agree!! with you on most points. Quit early & Quit often was a new idea but it made sense.
Brilliant speech! Even the Q&A was inspiring
I wish If I herd it in 2005 as I entered into career crisis in between where I was no longer enjoying the work. Still it took me 6 years to quit that work.
Prof. Deepak,
Thank you for explaining 'I quit Money' @52:00, I read about this many years ago.
Brilliant talk
Great speech sculpting and presenting with great messages
"proceed yourself in your comfort level" ultimate midpoint from the speech
Professor, I was wondering if you believe quitting to pursue passion is for everyone (assuming there's nothing holding them back like finances or family), and whether the risk of doing so is worth the rewards, because people might never find out what they want to do in life.
At this point in my career, Your thought gave me confidence!!
Thank you very much for this eye opening speech
Oh man, that is some wise shit!!! Love it!
Best Lecture I have ever watched. Thank You Sir, "Genius" :)
Thanks... glad you enjoyed it.
Very Good Speech.
This is certainly great advice...but sometimes, people simply don't challenge the status quo
