The doctor's past doesn't matter. If it he had a proven past of physical violence it would. The airline staff were unprovoked and shouldn't have escalated to that amount of violence.
His past is irrelevant to this situation. Did any other passenger say that the doctor was belligerent? That he was disrespectful of the police officers? No, this is only about an airline trying to kick off a boarded passenger after he refused, as was his right, to comply with an illegal request. Airlines do not have the authority to do this. check their charter. they can only prevent people from boarding because of overbooking, after the customer is on the plane, they have to let him stay.
I don't think the doctor's past matters in this situation because the officers that "escorted" him out did not know of his past when he "fell". This is the way they treated a customer. Had he been the best guy in the world and had a clean past they still would've done the same because he refused to leave the plane. I don't know if they did this because of his race but I do know that they did not do it because of his past.
his past matters because it shapes you as a person and it shapes the way you;re behaving. And surprise surprise, this matters. Also what if he was a terrorist? should he be allowed on the plane all the same?
United Airlines had no clue about his past when they "reaccommodated" him so i don't think it matters. and also what does terrorism have to do with this??
There is an even newer video (filmed by a someone sitting behind the doctor) showing the doctor _calmly_ explaining why he didn't want to leave. "Disruptive and belligerent" my ass.
Tiffany IT doesn't matter. He was legally required to get off the plane. Just because you refuse POLITELY to do something a police officer tells you to, doesn't mean you won't get force used upon you.
True, but enough force to make his face "fall" on the arm rest and get all bloody? Plus, the CEO was making it seem like the doctor was being disruptive and rude, when obvious that was not the case, trying justify what they did...
tea-morriee no that much force was not necessary, but im sure they didn't mean to do it. I'm sure he didn't just fall either, but It'd be so hard to remove someone from a tiny plane without hurting him or someone else. that's so much weight in a tiny pace
The plane wasn't overbooked soooooo them kicking him off the plane wasn't legal in the slightest. "United. An airline where their self-entitled employees getting to their crossover in time is more important than a doctor going to a medical emergency."
iScream Love the plane doesn't have to be overbooked for United to kick them off. United can kick someone off legally anytime they want to, as long as they refund the ticket price. But furthermore, to prevent lawsuits, they state that they are legally allowed to do so whenever they want and have customers hit the "agree" button to that and other terms before they buy a ticket. There was every reason for that guy to be removed from the plane. You might not think it's fair, but that's how the law works and how most companies work.
Yeah, United treated someone poorly. Violence is not the answer. It's disgusting. I don't like the man's background, but that doesn't give anyone the right to hurt him. It's scary because what if they treat you or me that way next time??
Note that his background wasn't known when they attacked! Sure, he may have aggravated the problem, but, again, that doesn't make it right to hurt him.
julie blank He hurt himself. Comply with the officers and file a complaint later. Not fight 3 grown men who are legally able to use force, just to hang to you seat to go play doctor for 1 day of the week because you aren't trust to be a doctor for the other 6 days.
His background is something that the justice system has to deal with, or whatever entity is connected/relevant to it. It's not an airline's job to punish or reward someone for their behaviour, so united airlines is still completely in the wrong here.
Okay yeah, so maybe the doctor guy was a potentially bad person with a bad past, it's not like United did a background check on all of the passengers. They weren't like "oh yeah, this guy's a dick, let's boot him". All of this information came out AFTER the fact. They still forcibly removed a passenger from their plane, they still assaulted him, it doesn't matter who he was and/or is. There's no excuse for United's actions.
I would agree that his past shouldn't affect what they did or how we view it. To be fair, though, I've been trying to research the situation more, and it seems like United has the ability to deny (forcibly, if necessary) anybody a flight even after they have bought a ticket, so long as they offer compensation, which they did. It gets grey because that usually happens before boarding. Though also, I believe it was Chicago PD or their aviation officers that did the forcible removal, not United. But absolutely, the information that came out should have no bearing on the situation.
This only illustrates the need for a passenger bill of rights, of some sort, to reign in these airlines and make it so nothing like this ever happens again. They have been given entirely too much power, obviously.
I think most people thought this guy was a brilliant Doctor that wanted to help his patients so they were outraged. However, that's not the main point the main point is a man was violently removed from the plane, your interpretations of if he was asking for it should only be determined in the video
This man's past crimes have no bearing on the situation none of the employees knew that he had committed a crime so to them he was just another customer so no matter who it was they would have treated them this way.
No the company being greedy over booked their flight that is their fault. They had a slue of other options available but chose to a) assault this man, and b) fly that greed flag high stripping customers who already paid for and went through the long obnoxious process that is boarding a flight which at times takes hours upon hours. He threw no "temper tantrum" but you clearly lack the capacity to use your own eyes huh? Pathetic grow up.
Did you actually watch the video? Because the entire story is literally the opposite of what you are claiming. They did over book, hence why he had to be kicked off (why the hell do you think they tried?) and he didn't throw a tantrum, he just shouted at them when the security guards started man handling him. Very different situations. Don't be stupid, stupid.
The force wasn't extreme though. They didn't bash his face into the armrests as people have said. He was clinging to his seat so they had to pull him hard in order to dislodge him. The rest was a little something called inertia.
Did you watch that video? I agree that they didn't grab the guy by the hair and smash him into the armrest, but they pulled him hard and he smashed his face on an armrest. Then they drug his limp, dazed, and bleeding body down the aisle and out of the plane. There is NO reason for them to treat another human being like a sack of fucking potatoes. This was excessive and extreme force for a completely innocent man.
Papa Wheely if the force wasn't that extreme and caused an accidental injury, why drag someone who may be concussed off of the plane? Surely at that point, this passenger, whether in the right or wrong deserves to 1. Be treated with care, so as to not cause further injury. & 2. With dignity - because he's y'know, a human being, not trash to be dragged to the curb.
Part of the reason why I love this show is the easy going clarification. You make me feel like I'm not an idiot and entertain me at the same time. This is by far the best place to keep up with the news. Thank you for all that you and your team does.
Right? All while not only being open to dialogue, but encouraging it. I disagree with Phil on a lot of aspects but I have never felt patronized for disagreeing, which is unfortunately rare for most media outlets.
It's so ridiculous that they are looking into this guy's past. That has zero relevance for what happened to him on that plane. So, now not only was this guy beaten, but now his past is getting dragged all over the media. Unreal. The entire incident and everything that has followed has just gotten worse and worse. Again, he should sue for TONS.
Vivienne Gucwa especially since we know they did it to discredit the guy. there is no grey area we have a clear ass video. it is not he said she said so we have to bring a person's character into it.
Is it really surprising? It has been used as a tactic in many police brutality cases it's not like we haven't seen it before. Just like in many of those previous cases it has nothing to do with what happened in the incident in question.
He could be the worst person in the world, but did United or the Chicago police run a background check when randomly "volunteering" the passenger, or before proceeding to go full rambo on him? If not, then that information is completely irrelevant, because it wasn't a prerequisite to getting assaulted, and it could just as likely have been anyone else on that flight, or you or I if we had been there. All the media outlets running hatchet jobs on him for a click makes as much sense (and deserves the same amount of respect) as media going through the sexual history of a rape victim.
When you look at a person you can't know their past. So the situation on the airplane doesn't change. Violence isn't the answer. Even if the man had 'egged them on' he shouldn't have got bloodied like he did. Also, once he was seemingly passed out, the security guards first response shouldn't have been to immediately drag him off the plane. It should have been to check if he was alright and hadn't sustained a serious head injury. As soon as the man hit his head that was a game changer. Head injuries are not to be taken lightly.
I agree. This is the red herring fallacy and this is low ball if the airline or police department leaked this. They are pieces of trash and need to represent their side in an ethical way instead of resorting to attacking the man's character publicly. If someone has a felony, that doesn't give me the right to beat their ass when I wouldn't do that to someone with a clean record. This is seriously idiotic.
To add to the United memes, that doctor's face reminds me a bit of a guy from a Chinese meme from last year. A woman was using her phone too close to another man on the subway. He asked her to keep some distance. The woman refused and provoked the situation. So then the man uttered the line *"YOUR ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES ARE VIOLATING ME"*
Right? Everybody has their demons.. it's not like he was a damn serial killer.. we are all human.. to be treated like less of one like that is fucking disgusting..
But, United didn't know about this guy's background when they assaulted him. I imagine they dug into his background when they were doing damage control.
The passenger's past does not matter, at least not in this case. He may have done things badly in the past that does not justify a man who's job it is to secure people's security pushing a mans face into an armrest and causing him to bleed, and then proceeding to drag him out of the plane. The doctors past seems every dodgy indeed, BUT that does not stop United's actions being completely unjustified and BS.
Right? None of the other passengers were saying he was misbehaving. He just didn't want to give up his seat... that he paid for... that was already his... that he was already sitting in. It's not like the officers that attacked him knew his background either. It doesn't matter, at all, and anyone who says it does has to have their head examined.
I'm not one of the people that was smart enough to have asked for the first story, but I'm so grateful that you addressed RUclips channels, and their ad troubles. I have been inspired by you and other RUclipsrs to see what can be done with these fantastic venues, and I'm just starting to plan, and discover what can be done. I really needed to know that my dreams weren't over before they got started. Thanks, Phil. Thanks for the info, and just for being the smart guy that always seems to do his best to tell true and important stories.
I think it makes United look even worse - so they get justified crap for treating a customer like that and their instinct is to dox the customer and dig up dirt on him to make him a less sympathetic figure?
Phil, as ever and as always I absolutely have to give you immense credit for your efforts to report the news without spin or bias. I don't always agree with your opinions, but I always feel like they're honestly considered and your reporting isn't intended to push your opinions over facts. Kudos.
Personally don't care that the passenger has a criminal record. As long as he didn't assault the officers, he shouldn't have been treated that way. And lets not forget that UA overbooked the flight so they can make a couple of extra bucks, but when everybody turned up, they had to kick 4 people off. Don't know much about the laws concerning this case but I would jump towards this if I was a lawyer.
TheKnowledgeSeeker As far as I'm aware, the overbooking practices are in the terms of service of UA. Meaning that what they did was entirely legal and agreed upon by every customer (not that they would know, no one including myself reads those things) The removal of the passenger was excessive for sure, but within the boundaries of the law. There is no case here
Nope. Smearing the victim of a violent attack does not change my opinion of how badly they treated this passenger. They had no idea of his past when they pulled him out of his seat and slammed his head on the armrest. Disgusting behavior and response from Untied. I'll NEVER board one of their planes.
You're definitely right about people being attracted to your show because you provide a sense of clarity. That's one thing that attracted me, on top of the fact you attempt to give unbiased information while also adding your own flavor. You're a cool dude, Mr. DeFranco!
I'd rather die by natural causes but if the nukes drop I wanna be in as close proximity as possible to the impact sight so I get the quickest death possible. I'm not interested in even making the attempt to survive in a nuclear wasteland
I really do feel better when you lay down the facts the way you do. It may not clarify the situation but it does clarify why it's such a big mess of crap.
There was no way united knew at the time about this doctor's past. In my opinion, this information makes me lose some respect for the passenger. With that being said, that does not excuse united airlines from kicking him off the plane. Overbooking is a scummy practice that should be done away with. Prioritizing profit over consumer experience is understandable, but somewhat short-sighted.
ZICKYD 42 exactly just fucking deflection. Dr. is a piece of shit if this is true, but you're telling me the airplane had this info before they removed him. This has nothing to do with what happened fucking BS
If true, all of those felonies would show he's a dodgy (and perhaps a little morally corrupt) doctor, but would show nothing about his temper or anything like that. If he'd been charged with lots of violent incidents, it might have changed how one might think he reacted and thereby how the security did too. But really all this information seems a little irrelevant. So he's done some bad things with his job? Doesn't mean he wasn't assaulted...
They're running hit pieces on this guy and they're not even 100% sure if they're character assassinating the right person? Big if true. He could sue a lot of places for libel, between that and the assault I hope he never has to work another day in his life
So, if Dao was about to miss his only day of the week he can work, I'd say I completely understand him being extraordinarily unwilling to get off the flight. If they weren't prepared to compensate me for a week's pay I'd say no too.
Jiian Agreed, but I think it also says something about Dao. I read it now that he didn't want to lose the money, rather than caring for his patients. It doesn't seem to me that patients were in a life threatening position, and he was using his doctor status to try and get out of being bumped and make it sound more dire. Super duper does not and will never justify what the officers did, but he doesn't seem like a perfect angel in the situation either. Separate problems though, to be sure.
+CaBobProductions so what? The question is of UA's treatment of its passengers, not the passenger that was kicked off. This just looks like UA trying to shift the blame on the doctor
i love watching you simply because any of your vids i do watch your so calm about whatever your talking about. your engaging to watch and listen to but i have never seen you freak out about something and its something really to be valued even when i dont agree with what you are saying impossible for me to get freaked out. what im trying to say is thanks for making you videos and your channel
one of those comments were something along the lines of 'if he wasn't Chinese, i wouldn't have said anything'. So if it were someone who was white, black, etc. then they wouldn't care?! doesn't that seem a little racist?
for the United Airlines story first we should not look at the doctor past yes he may be a shitty doctor but what they did do him was inhumane and I really think the guy should sue
if he's stupid he will sue, if he's smart he will sue, why hasn't noticed the real interesting lil tidbit, aka airplane refusing to do their job till they got their way and that the flight was delayed by 2 hours, by then wouldn't it have been faster if they took a different plane?!
Cole Usselman I did like how they try to make him look bad but also they use people history to make it seem like he's in the wrong but nope it's the airline fault they should stop over booking and make better airplanes
Like i wrote at another place "Imo..depending how you see it the new information could make it worse... since we now know hes only allowed to practise and see them once a week being booted from a flight so he would miss that day could have a HUGE impact on his life(regardless if his past is quite shitty we dont know if hes trying to turn it around)" and yeah we shouldnt defend inhumanity by him being a shitty person in the past..
There is the point in this that the airline would not have known about his legal issues. He was just a passenger who they forced off a flight, violently. That is something that could have happened to anyone who was desperate to get to their destination.
I think with this new information I no longer care WHY they had him removed, just HOW he was removed. If they wanted to compensate him and take him off more peacefully, no issue, but no compensation and bashing his head into an arm rest is completely unacceptable.
because obviously if the officers magically know this guys entire medical community infractions its okay to assault and batter him right? It's irrelevant to the situation. Whether he was being rude or not, he shouldnt have been beaten by anyone.
+Directioanlly Challenged It my have been the thrashing, or it may - which seemed more likely, to be how forcefully they yanked him. If I just trash i my seat, I don't go flying. He did. He flew right into that armrest lol.
watching the video, it's just not clear enough to say that. the three dudes are blocking it and it makes that part very sketchy. It could go one way or the other.
To say I've been waiting for "The Syria" video is an understatement. To also say that I watch the Philip DeFranco show because it's one of the few news shows I still trust is an even bigger understatement.
I really hope a war doesn't break out because as citizens we didn't do anything wrong and it's stupid for a lot of people to die for something they didn't do but I suppose that life
Its the presidents that are asking for it not the citizens, same goes for the US too, I'd rather not have to pay with my life for something I didn't do
Human beings are so selfish. When other people around the world are dying, we don't care, but as soon as it looks like we might have some trouble, all of us sudden we're such victims...
Because his news channel doesn't comform to the main stream medias' agendas - he tells things as it is and give commentaries that both left and right wing peeps find uncomfortable.
I still believe United Airlines was in the wrong. That guy clearly has done some shady stuff in the past but that doesn't make him a violent person/requires security to act violent.
Mr. Awesome ! What you said is completely irrelevant. We are taking into the situation on the plan that a paying customer was forced out of the plan violently because Company incompetent business practice vs a terrorist attacking which has nothing to do with plan business practice. They didn't know about his past before they kick him out so what you said is completely irrelevant.
Not defending United and I dont think his past matters in this situation but he didnt have to throw a tantrum and act like a fuckn spoiled child either. It would certainly have sucked being deboarded but he handled it TERRIBLY and inappropriately. You cant just sit there and refuse orders to deboard a fuckn multi-million dollar commercial airliner as if you own it just because you paid a few hundred bucks for a ticket. You lost the lotto. Make a huge fuss, get off the plane, trash them publicly as much as possible, and never fly with them again.
+dabartos I think you have a point! We should go through the past of everyone killed on 9/11. Maybe one of them did something wrong, that would justify it all
dabartos mate he didn't have ANY weapons or tear gas on him.. he was just a person who had some messed up shit in his past which he had PAID for. so technical he was clean.
For the first time ever, I feel that I need to add to a subject. First off, my family is tied to the airlines. Meaning that they work there and then have common knowledge of whats going on 24/7. This means because of that I am constantly bombarded with news and info regarding airports and airlines. And while I admit that I don't remember everything that is thrown my way, What I do know is that stuff like this is not permitted where I am. There would probably be a statement much more genuine then what united put out, and most likely the people that struck and mishandled this man would most certainly lose their jobs. Point is, I don't know who this CEO thinks he is, but obviously he should be fired as well, if he has the balls to say that this was the customers fault. The new info and data on the doc doesn't matter one bit; this is no longer his fault the second the officers took his well-being into their hands and smashed that well-being into a arm-rest, dragged it out of the plane that it paid for, and left it there battered and bloody. I'm disgusted by both the airline and the police department, and hope that their officers and CEO are replaced soon.
James Pawson I really wouldn't seek another conspiracy here, especially because no one seems to benefit. It's common that you overbook a flight It's common for people nowadays to film these situations with their phones It's a very normal reaction, that they freak out and make a drama out of it, it's rather natural that some higher person in the company thought they'd get away with this because it was probably one person telling another person to take care of it, until the last person executed just an order, no matter what the ethical background is. The job was to get rid of 4 passengers, he delivered. It's just unexpected, that these employes are so reckless, but it's probably real.
+Cornelia Hanimann I think the feeling of a "false narrative" is coming from United's actions/words in trying to mitigate the harm done to this man - for instance, saying that this man did those crimes, when it was actually a different doctor with a similar name. They're the ones who pushed that particular "the victim is to blame" narrative - which then makes *everything* they say and do in the aftermath smell fishy. No argument with anything you said - I just understand why +James Pawson gets that feeling. Simply put, the cover-up smells more fishy than the incident that started it all.
I don't think he was smuggling drugs...there's always a chance but I mean you're not using your critical thinking skills at all. He used to write false prescriptions for pain killers, not smuggle cocaine up his butt and pack his suitcase full of pills. I'm pretty the sure the reason why he was so desperate to get back was because like Phil stated, he can only practice one day out of the week soooo maybe that was the one day he could actually see patients. Honestly, when I heard everything about his past I just thought "well yea, he's Chinese but that doesn't really change the whole issue. If it was something like "Yea kicked this guy off because he was doing some shady shit" that would've been a plausible lie but United didn't even attempt to do that. They're clearly at fault here. Even when the guy started screaming like a banshee and freaked the fuck out like a crazy person I thought "Oh, he's probably just Chinese".
Dobbel Smuggling drugs? Where in the hell did you get that from? Lol. His charges were from 2005 and NOTHING was related to "smuggling" any kind of drugs.
His career has nothing to do with how he was treated on this airline. There should be no 'special treatment' based on his career. It's quite a stretch to make a hypothetical of him smuggling drugs and is blaming a victim (until otherwise proven guilty). Even if he is a 'garbage person' the airlines still should not have treated him as they did and they also didn't know of his history during this altercation. I think his past warrants investigating the situation further but overall I'm still of the mind that he is innocent until proven guilty for any potential 'drug smuggling' that some might be considering.
"Potential success" C'mon Phil, you got success already. All ya(you & your crew) gotta do is launch the first, dedicated late night RUclips chat show thang, & that De'Franco 2024 biz, well, who knows.... Hell, I'm English, & you would have my vote if I could cast it. Love the PD gospel smack.
Drunken Slander da fuck are you talking about? Phil never said the guy shouldnt have rights because of his past, he was merely mentioning it so we get all the facts
Another thing I learned about the missile strike: Apparently they didn't even damage anything important. The runways are still completely intact and the personnel had been cleared out beforehand because T *notified Russia* before the attack--who, being allied with Assad, proceeded to warn him. So on top of everything else they didn't even prevent Assad from launching more attacks, making whole thing basically a giant, incredibly expensive publicity stunt.
The airline makes a mistake and punishes an innocent person for it? Makes sense... I'm sure they can afford more than $1000 compensation. Someone would eventually take it and this event would have never happened.
John Adams you may wanna double check that. they will open back at the monday closing price. they took a hit for a day this wont do anything to them in the long run
The man was an asshole, he caused a delay that will ripple forward delaying hundreds of people because he threw a tantrum. I think the police, and yes it was the police and not United who injured him, should have handled him differently. That does not excuse what he did, People are delayed every day and overbooking happens, big deal. He broke the law and resisted arrest, he has only himself to blame.
The doc is not motivated by money. He did have sex with someone to lower a debt. Someone who loves the ka-ching would rather pressure someone to pay up. And the trafficking or painkillers could be another indicator. He maybe did this because the patient couldn't pay for them.
Regarding the airplane passenger forcibly removed from the UA flight: My opinion does not change, regardless of what this man's profession is. The character he presented on the flight should not have resulted in the type of physical assault he suffered, especially in this situation of convenience it was presented in. Not offering maximum compensation, not considering picking another "volunteer" after repeated denial of boarding, disconnect from vernacular of everyday paying customers all point to a party at fault in my eyes. United should apologize (not as the victim) and make this 15 days of fame into a positive, at this point at a lesser cost than their company net-worth will suffer in the same amount of time. Free flights to all! ;)
I am Asian. After I watched about United airline video, I subscribed you. It is awesome. Also, I am glad there's English subtitles I can understand because you talk fast
jesus Christ he is middle of moving the shooting happend yesterday he isnt going to jump on it right away. he just talked about syria. the guy is slow he is trying his best.
i really dont care about daos past or his race. in my opinion it comes down to the fact that the airline overbooked and that is their problem not their customers. if they need to get 4 of their people on board that flight to go to work but they cant get 4 people to willingly give up their seats then that is their fault and they should have to deal with it in a way that doesn't affect the customers or their travel plans. who the hell cares if dao did something wrong in the past it doesn't change the fact that american airlines is in the wrong right now.
I agree that overbooking flights is a scummy deal for customers, but if overbooking is the problem why is there suddenly a magnifying glass over United? Literally every single domestic airlines in the US (including Jet-Blue) overbooks flights, the number of overbooked tickets depends on flight statistics on how many people miss that flight on average. And on the topic of United CEO's stance on the matter, he kind of has a point. The airline employees followed protocol and asked someone to leave the flight. Normally the passenger complies and gets paid to take a later flight. In this case, the guy disobeyed and forced them to bring in law enforcement to forcibly remove the passenger. At that point, getting bloodied is a reasonable consequence. My point is, overbooked flights sucks for consumers. But when you buy airline tickets, you are implicitly signing the dotted line to follow their procedures in exchange to fly somewhere. At the end of the day, the risk of missing a flight for being overbooked is not as big of a factor in buying tickets as the price of the ticket. As long as consumers keep buying the cheapest tickets available, airlines will do whatever they want to keep reducing the price of those tickets.
I hate it when companies or the news tries to spread people's unsavory past to protect themselves. Yes, he may not be an angel but that wasn't even a factor at the time. He was a random customer that they tried to remove because they were unorganized.
I've de-installed adblock to support my favourite youtubers more, and now I tell them what ads I see so they know where the money comes from. Today you've been sponsored by the apple brand Junami! xD
This is important to the situation if he was trying to prescribe medicine to the security on the plane or their flight attendants. Otherwise pass deeds does not give the air line the okay to assault someone one.
Though learning about the doctor's sketchy past shocked the hell outta me, that information doesn't change the fact that what the airline did was wrong. They fucked up and overbooked and solved the situation by injuring somebody
Calculus is easy compared to politics because in calculus there is at least a right or wrong answer, in politics you can be right and wrong at the same time. Basically anything goes.
You do realize you would have to spend money on the Cab, Hotel, Dinner, Breakfast and the Cab back to the Airport plus a snack inside the airport. Add that to the money you wasted on that day and they are basically getting like $5 to leave the plane... Plus all that waking up early Rescheduling And waiting for hours in the airport Congratulations you played yourself
samdog166 you aren't always necessarily given money, it may just be say 50 dollars off your next ticket for the next few flights or something similar. That's ignoring all expenses with rebooking a flight and associated costs.
The United story has made me say something I've said time and time again. USE YOUR FUCKING WORDS. If the airline staff and security guards had spent ten minutes talking it out with the man, a lot of time would've been saved. People need to act like adults.
airliners need to overbook because a lot of people don't show up for their flights and they need to keep planes are full as possible to remain profitable. When you buy a ticket you agree to the possibility of you loosing your seat if there are not enough seats
David Bauman at the end of the day the guards were still the ones who resorted to physical violence. They could have given the guy a couple minutes to calm down and tried to work something out. It's always better to diffuse a situation than escalate it.
I strongly dislike how when something like what happened with United erupts they look into the person's background to find dirt and make it seem like it makes it acceptable to treat them like shit because of what they did in the past even when they did not have that information at the time the incident happens.
I love your face Phil but am still disappointed with the non mention of the Stockholm terrorist attack! On another note- does anyone else think Boris looks a bit like Matt Lucas in a yellow wig?
Doesn't matter what he does off the plane. On the plane he was a law abiding, ELDERLY man who PAID for his seat. He wasn't a threat, he wasn't doing anything to antagonise, he just refused to give up something he paid for. The officers are 100% in the wrong, throwing their weight around because they were probably bullied at school and now have the power to bully others. The CEO is fucking idiot too. I get defending your work force but with all the video evidence he's still denying his staff are in the wrong? That's a true mark of a scumbag right there. Would have been all over and done with if he accepted responsibility for his staff and the 3 officers involved were fired. But no and now they are losing money, customers and reputation. Serves them right, maybe now they will actually treat their customers with respect.
Hancock War does change, it gets worse over time, as we as a species evolve with technology and such. Wars did and will continue to get bloodier and costlier and more horrific, sadly. From spears to WMD's, from horseback to tanks. I'm glad us humans have the limited lifespan that we do, I'd rather not see what horrors of war await us in, say 100 years from now. god help us all
Adding my 2 cents on United because why not? I hope they take a huge hit and it slaps some sense into the industry as a whole. This guy's past deeds, no matter what they are or when they happened, are between him and the state or federal govt that convicted him. He's either paid his dues or is paying them now, according to our justice system, for better or worse. If we are going to judge him based on his past, what's the point of even having a justice system? How the f is it up to United Airline to determine his guilt? When people fuck up in this country, they need means of being forgiven. Eternal damnation is for someplace besides civilian life USA, whatever your crime.
Beating up a shitty person who is a customer still counts as beating a customer. Even if he does not have a good reason to be home that doesn't mean you get to beat the shit out of him.
Well with my dealing with 16 medical/emotional conditions and no cure for four of them, yes it is just a matter of time before I break on through and go home. No one can beat the Art of Dying. Watched my dad die in front of me four years ago yesterday. The main question is are you ready? Will Heaven or Hell be your home? Yet with all this and more going on, I will continue being an activist and taking a stand against oppression, injustice and intolerance!
My brain...it hurts. Happy Tuesday!
Hola

Philip DeFranco Thanks for the video Phil!

Gimme Succ Please👏👏😟
GeirGunnarss United Airlines tweeted one time on twitter that said "we can't just take away someone's seat"
Lol, I saw that post too.
If his past is irrelevant, so is him being a doctor.
bearman i would say that he being a doctor is relevant as he needed to get to his job on time
kompaye no more important than anyone else who had work.
Also what if he was a terrorist? should he be allowed on the plane all the same?
it's still horrible, yes, and I believe the airline must be held responsible, but...karma's a bitch, isn't she?
Shyann Obregon Not, not the same thing.
dabartos you make 0 sense can you try using logic?
DD how is that racist? He is talking about his criminal background
Lol I'm Chinese; I meant his criminal background *eye roll*
Thanks Phil. Thank you for all you do. I appreciate you!
Yup, I liked my own comment. Deal with it.
RandomAxiom I liked it too, no longer alone
I liked your comment too. Haha ;)
RandomAxiom you earned my like
RandomAxiom I'm with you too
Okay yeah, so maybe the doctor guy was a potentially bad person with a bad past, it's not like United did a background check on all of the passengers.
You're just a cute girl Sarah
This man's past crimes have no bearing on the situation none of the employees knew that he had committed a crime so to them he was just another customer so no matter who it was they would have treated them this way.
Adam Carr thats another dude though, journalist did shitty job as always. they have similar names which is very common in asia
you are right he could be the douche bag of the year, that doesn't change that he was a paying customer treated like garbage.
I believe in karma so I'm not that mad
Did you actually watch the video? Because the entire story is literally the opposite of what you are claiming. They did over book, hence why he had to be kicked off (why the hell do you think they tried?) and he didn't throw a tantrum, he just shouted at them when the security guards started man handling him. Very different situations. Don't be stupid, stupid.
Are we all just ignoring that sweaty hand print on the headboard? :o
😂😂
OK, I thought i was the only one.lol
SingaporeSkater You know he gave his wife the Philly D
Didn't notice it until I read your comment. Now I cannot unsee it.
Hahahaha Just looked and it is there. WoW!
New info about the doctor is irrelevant. Doesn't justify use of extreme force.
Agreed.
Night Stick couldn't have said it better myself.
Agreed. He may be a scumbag, but this had nothing to do with it. United is still at fault here (and refusing to apologize lmao).
Vivienne Gucwa perfectly said, thank you.
MarylandLovely this 👌🏻
you stole the words right out of my mouth
So then the man uttered the line *"YOUR ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES ARE VIOLATING ME"*
EXM the f**k?
Everyone has dirt in their past. You can't use that against him in this situation
Matthew Johnson especially when it's not even him
I dont care about the passengers past...he could've been rushing home to bake a lasagna for all I care, the way he was treated is unacceptable.
Exactly. This is all just United trying to deflect the blow of their mistake.
Yum! I heart lasagna... :)
yeah forcing a person to have sex with you and lasagna are in the same field
Speaking of shirts, I'm ready for "Have a great fucking day" to come back
Becca Kravchenko Pleeeaaase
That sounds like a shirt I need for work
I'm not one of the people that was smart enough to have asked for the first story, but I'm so grateful that you addressed RUclips channels, and their ad troubles.
United Airlines, Rated #1 in Chinese Takeout
Tai Lopez he is not Chinese... damn I ruined a joke
My whole zero dollars a month I'm making off of RUclips is being greatly impacted by this advertiser purge.
love yo face phil, you definitely don't deserve your monetization to go down
RosePyxel the struggle is real. Keep trying :)
Tyler Boyd Ikr!! My $0.08 is as good as gone.
SockBomb stay strong
Tyler Boyd same
great, so both parties are horrible.
Yes, the doctor is a shady person but i don't see how any of that justifies the way United handled the situation.
"both parties are horrible"
Pretty much American politics in the past two years.
SirClawedfrog more than just the past 2
You forgot lesser of two evils
I think it makes United look even worse - so they get justified crap for treating a customer like that and their instinct is to dox the customer and dig up dirt on him to make him a less sympathetic figure?
It would be relevant information if his past was violence.
Meaning that what they did was entirely legal and agreed upon by every customer (not that they would know, no one including myself reads those things)
The removal of the passenger was excessive for sure, but within the boundaries of the law. There is no case here
The gun channels on RUclips didn't just get "hit really bad". A lot of them got shut down.
SteamFallout I'd say that's being hit really bad
Mack TB I think so as well, but I think people should know that thy have been shut down.
SteamFallout u mean a lot of them got SHOT down *badumtss
SteamFallout That's not true hickok45 is a gun channel and has not been taken down how come?
SteamFallout Will Airsoft count?
DeFranco!
The title's just reminding me of my own impending demise... Thanks Phil
Everybody dies eventually :)
Yep that is a fact of life!
I'd rather die by natural causes but if the nukes drop I wanna be in as close proximity as possible to the impact sight so I get the quickest death possible. I'm not interested in even making the attempt to survive in a nuclear wasteland
Unless he was a physical threat to other passengers it should have never escalated to that level.
I've been refreshing for like ten minutes waiting for today's episode haha
Christopher Sullivan loser
DakyGamma I'm so distraught. Whatever shall I do with such a scathing criticism of my character?
Doesn't mean he wasn't assaulted...
the person dragged off UA is David Thanh Duc Dao. The person convicted for drugs/sex is David Anh Duy Dao. They're different people.
They're running hit pieces on this guy and they're not even 100% sure if they're character assassinating the right person? Big if true. He could sue a lot of places for libel, between that and the assault I hope he never has to work another day in his life
TheDarkDreamz wait? really? are you serious?
Definitely doesn't change how they responded then lol
Zack Fry he claimed he was a doctor and had patients to see so it's somewhat relevant
CaBobProductions regardless, UA was breaking contract and its their own fault they needed extra seats anyway
LXVE Yep. That's what I said. They are separate issues, but he's no angel.
+CaBobProductions so what? The question is of UA's treatment of its passengers, not the passenger that was kicked off. This just looks like UA trying to shift the blame on the doctor
Radi Bear Like I said, the two things have nothing to do with each other. The Dao thing is still interesting.
i love watching you simply because any of your vids i do watch your so calm about whatever your talking about. your engaging to watch and listen to but i have never seen you freak out about something and its something really to be valued even when i dont agree with what you are saying impossible for me to get freaked out. what im trying to say is thanks for making you videos and your channel
Yay! My mom works for JetBlue! She would be happy to know Philly D favors them.
Stormlit I so wish they were available in more states
when my grandkids ask me how did WW3 start i will respond with FUCKING TWITTER!
Marcus Ortiz rt lmao
Marcus Ortiz why hasn't this comment got more likes Im crying
Polar Vimto it's only been up 20 minutes, come back tomorrow lol.
but with the radiation no one will be having kids...so I mean yea.
How does one fuck Twitter?
it does not matter who it is in this situation. ''oh this person has a somewhat sketchy past, lets try to crack his skull like an egg'' NO, just no
I CAN BEAT YOUR ASS BECAUSE OF THAT SPEEDING TICKET A YEAR AGO.
I lack Intelligence I hate letterers
They keep dropping their letters everywhere
Alright fuckers. Could've just corrected me.
Treating a shitty person shitty is still treating a person shitty.
one of those comments were something along the lines of 'if he wasn't Chinese, i wouldn't have said anything'. So if it were someone who was white, black, etc. then they wouldn't care?! doesn't that seem a little racist?
Alex Martin lol China in a nutshell
Alex Martin it's china..... A country with the most uncivilized citizens in the world, what do you expect? Chinese from homeland are like that...
not all but a good portion of people living in these more racially/socially isolated countries think that is rational... just a cultural difference
Alex Martin God, that comment got to me, the color of that man's skin shouldn't matter, it's a human being bring abused! What's wrong with people?!
KolorRaid Yes! The absolute *best* way to solve racism is with more racism! Bravo, commenter.
/s
Fuck off.
for the United Airlines story
first we should not look at the doctor past yes he may be a shitty doctor but what they did do him was inhumane and I really think the guy should sue
if he's stupid he will sue, if he's smart he will sue, why hasn't noticed the real interesting lil tidbit, aka airplane refusing to do their job till they got their way and that the flight was delayed by 2 hours, by then wouldn't it have been faster if they took a different plane?!
Cole Usselman I did like how they try to make him look bad but also they use people history to make it seem like he's in the wrong but nope it's the airline fault they should stop over booking and make better airplanes
Like i wrote at another place
"Imo..depending how you see it the new information could make it worse...
since we now know hes only allowed to practise and see them once a week being booted from a flight so he would miss that day could have a HUGE impact on his life(regardless if his past is quite shitty we dont know if hes trying to turn it around)"
and yeah we shouldnt defend inhumanity by him being a shitty person in the past..
United Airlines is just trying to shift the blame somewhere else (in this case, to the doctor)
There is the point in this that the airline would not have known about his legal issues. He was just a passenger who they forced off a flight, violently. That is something that could have happened to anyone who was desperate to get to their destination.
It doesn't matter what he did in the past. Assault is still illegal.
Ryan Lucas he shouldn't have been removed by a cop in the first place. The airline had no right to remove him.
yeah thats the sad thing about it. because we all know cops are always in the right...
"If you disobey a cop, you will be assaulted".
Sure, that seems fair.
sadly your statement is true, but re-read it... so your saying he deserved to be BEATEN for not leaving the seat that he payed for with his own money
Joyce Meyer They actually do have the right. But is wasn't the right thing to do. It was the airlines fault that they over booked the plane.
Whether he was being rude or not, he shouldnt have been beaten by anyone.
as far as I can tell from the video, he wasn't beaten, but because of how he was thrashing when he was grabbed, his head hit the armrest.
im sure they intentionally smashed his head on the armrest... beaten! he was beaten! grow up.
+Directioanlly Challenged It my have been the thrashing, or it may - which seemed more likely, to be how forcefully they yanked him. If I just trash i my seat, I don't go flying. He did. He flew right into that armrest lol.
Directionally Challenged sure is a lot of blood for a bump on the head lol
watching the video, it's just not clear enough to say that. the three dudes are blocking it and it makes that part very sketchy. It could go one way or the other.
Phil, you should mention the terror attack in Stockholm, Sweden last Friday. Great show - I watch you instead of news, mainly. :)
#WW3 meme are about to be cool to laugh at whilst dying
Yeah the future's looking grim.
I might have to stock up on some Pepsi if tensions rise
If WW3 becomes a thing I hope we can come together and meme about it...
Shaun Ashley Right? Well, hopefully it'll be a painless end.
hennie Kru I'll look
To say I've been waiting for "The Syria" video is an understatement. To also say that I watch the Philip DeFranco show because it's one of the few news shows I still trust is an even bigger understatement.
I really hope a war doesn't break out because as citizens we didn't do anything wrong and it's stupid for a lot of people to die for something they didn't do
but I suppose that life
Luciel We are already in war, in iraq.
I mean a World war or to be more accurate a nuclear war
Syria and North Korea are askin for it
Its the presidents that are asking for it not the citizens, same goes for the US too, I'd rather not have to pay with my life for something I didn't do
Human beings are so selfish. When other people around the world are dying, we don't care, but as soon as it looks like we might have some trouble, all of us sudden we're such victims...
I learn more from Philly D in 15 minutes than from the MSM in a day
I learn more from Philly's *D* in 15 minutes than from the MSM in a day
yum
I don't understand how your show which is a "News Show" is not "Advertiser Friendly".
Especially compared to other RUclips channels.
He tells it like it is with facts and stuff. Apparently, facts aren't "Advertiser Friendly".
Drewsefer89 because he gives his opinion
This isn't just him reporting the news though, it's him providing commentary. Advertisers don't like opinions, they alienate people.
Because his news channel doesn't comform to the main stream medias' agendas - he tells things as it is and give commentaries that both left and right wing peeps find uncomfortable.
I'm loving Southwests new marketing add; "We beat our competition not our customers" XD
United airlines new motto "If we overbook you'll catch a right hook"
I still believe United Airlines was in the wrong. That guy clearly has done some shady stuff in the past but that doesn't make him a violent person/requires security to act violent.
Su Potter I love A Death of A Bacheloooorrrrrr....
Okay...he had a past...that doesn't change that he shouldn't have been treated like a fucking toy.
We shouldn't get sidetracked so easily, especially with the race card. United is the damn focus here, don't make it easier on them
He was just giving the other side of the argument people were saying. He wasn't agreeing with them.
+Briant Jones there's really no argument there, it's completely irrelevant info to the issue at hand.
+Kzero
That depends on what you think the issue at hand is.
Weird, I thought it was aviation security who injured the man for not complying, not the airline 🤔
you nailed it today Phil!! 👏👍👊 thank you.😁😊
His past doesn't matter right? He was just a human on a plane forced to deboard. That should not happen.
Mr. Awesome ! What you said is completely irrelevant. We are taking into the situation on the plan that a paying customer was forced out of the plan violently because Company incompetent business practice vs a terrorist attacking which has nothing to do with plan business practice. They didn't know about his past before they kick him out so what you said is completely irrelevant.
dabartos comparing the 9/11 attacks to someone who was kicked off a plane for refusing to give up his seat?
top fucking kek
What airlines are your family tied to? Seems like a much better alternative than United.
This whole United scenario is very, VERY fishy. I smell some kind of false narrative, but I am not able to figure out who benefits. Very strange.
James Pawson I think it's the fact that United are acting so stupidly that it looks like there's a hidden narrative. No one benefits here
James Pawson I really wouldn't seek another conspiracy here, especially because no one seems to benefit.
It's common that you overbook a flight
It's common for people nowadays to film these situations with their phones
It's a very normal reaction, that they freak out and make a drama out of it, it's rather natural that some higher person in the company thought they'd get away with this because it was probably one person telling another person to take care of it, until the last person executed just an order, no matter what the ethical background is.
Why are we going on about his past? it has NOTHING to do with this situation.
Dobbel wtf how is he "smuggling" drugs, also no giving up ur seat for a united employee should not get u beat up simple doesn't matter who you are.
Dobbel well I mean there is no evidence suggesting that he was flying just to smuggle drugs, but I do understand your point.
Sorry Phil, I'm not giving up my spot in line for the curbstomping.
Andrew Switzer better take the offer or we will have to call the re-accommodator
Andrew Switzer ^^^
Oh good to know if you committed a crime in the past you no longer have rights. Sarcasm by the way.
Connor Dawson saldy that is the mentality of this channel
Drunken Slander da fuck are you talking about? Phil never said the guy shouldnt have rights because of his past, he was merely mentioning it so we get all the facts
Drunken Slander Your name is fitting, considering you're slandering Phil with such little evidence that you have to be drunk.
TheBakerification, Precisely.
Drunken Slander tf? Where did Phil say it was justified?
Pepsi: Damn, we messed up really bad.
United Airlines: Step aside.
Sean Spicer: Hold my beer.
Note: When Phil is saying he is disgusted by both groups he's talking about molesters and pedophiles.
We're adults. We could have guessed buddy
Eh, Poe's Law
Absolutely Nothing which happen to be GAY in this instance and MANY others...
thank you! I was a little confused😂
Ganja Mama one p...one p it's raping not rapping
idk how his past has anything todo with him getting his face fucked on that United flight.
The airline makes a mistake and punishes an innocent person for it? Makes sense... I'm sure they can afford more than $1000 compensation. Someone would eventually take it and this event would have never happened.
diache not to forget, they could've gone past $1000 ($1300)
Whats funny is that they could've offered the man 1.2 billion and it would still be technically worth it for the company.
He maybe did this because the patient couldn't pay for them.
glad I discovered this channel. it really do help me understand something's that intrest me.
Please keep the new set and re-brand as "In Bed with Phil".
Now I know why his handle was SXEPhil.
LMFAOO Funny.
James Salter..and end with - you have been Philled up ? :P
NOOOOO don't do that, then it would give a whole new meaning to being "phil'd" in >_
aww, joan rivers :(( rip
Free flights to all! ;)
My question is why didn't't any other passengers volunteer to get of to protect that man and take the money.
There actually were some passengers that volunteered for him, and a couple that got off right before he was randomly selected.
I am Asian. After I watched about United airline video, I subscribed you. It is awesome. Also, I am glad there's English subtitles I can understand because you talk fast
im surprised Phil didnt cover the San Bernardino school shooting that happened yesterday
jesus Christ he is middle of moving the shooting happend yesterday he isnt going to jump on it right away. he just talked about syria. the guy is slow he is trying his best.
i really dont care about daos past or his race. in my opinion it comes down to the fact that the airline overbooked and that is their problem not their customers. if they need to get 4 of their people on board that flight to go to work but they cant get 4 people to willingly give up their seats then that is their fault and they should have to deal with it in a way that doesn't affect the customers or their travel plans. who the hell cares if dao did something wrong in the past it doesn't change the fact that american airlines is in the wrong right now.
The Anti PC Parrot **United
What did American Airlines do?
I hate it when companies or the news tries to spread people's unsavory past to protect themselves. Yes, he may not be an angel but that wasn't even a factor at the time. He was a random customer that they tried to remove because they were unorganized.
Could you talk about the venezuelan situation??
I've de-installed adblock to support my favourite youtubers more, and now I tell them what ads I see so they know where the money comes from.
Today you've been sponsored by the apple brand Junami! xD
Those end tables make me more uneasy then the world right now lol
This is important to the situation if he was trying to prescribe medicine to the security on the plane or their flight attendants. Otherwise pass deeds does not give the air line the okay to assault someone one.
No Airline should treat passengers like that, doesn't matter about the dudes past
Though learning about the doctor's sketchy past shocked the hell outta me, that information doesn't change the fact that what the airline did was wrong. They fucked up and overbooked and solved the situation by injuring somebody
I don't know what's more confusing. The whole political situation right now or calculus.
The answer is yes
Calculus is easy compared to politics because in calculus there is at least a right or wrong answer, in politics you can be right and wrong at the same time.
Basically anything goes.
Swear to God, I'd be getting off that plane, happy with my $400 and then I'd hear them offering $800 behind me... fml
You do realize you would have to spend money on the Cab, Hotel, Dinner, Breakfast and the Cab back to the Airport plus a snack inside the airport. Add that to the money you wasted on that day and they are basically getting like $5 to leave the plane...
Plus all that waking up early
Rescheduling
And waiting for hours in the airport
Congratulations you played yourself
samdog166 you aren't always necessarily given money, it may just be say 50 dollars off your next ticket for the next few flights or something similar. That's ignoring all expenses with rebooking a flight and associated costs.
Its not cash money, but voucher for booking new ticket in the future, and expire in 1 year.
samdog166 lol
samdog166 he has a job, if he didn't get there he could have been fired
Low key have a shit ton of anxiety for WW3 right about now.
I feel ya.
TheLegend27 You know shit is real because the-fucking-Legend27 is anxious 😱
why? I can't wait to go to war
Fatmarshmellow666 even I can't hurl a boulder that far.
TheLegend27 Guess all we can do is Praise the Sun ヽ( ´¬`)ノ
You nailed it....If the airline didn't offer the maximum compensation that their policy allows ($1300 USD) then they are legally screwed.
came here 10 seconds after, Notification not even on
The United story has made me say something I've said time and time again. USE YOUR FUCKING WORDS. If the airline staff and security guards had spent ten minutes talking it out with the man, a lot of time would've been saved. People need to act like adults.
some adults can't be adults in one way or another
TheJacobShapiro if they just didn't overbook that would have never happened
TheJacobShapiro no escape from the crying Jordan
airliners need to overbook because a lot of people don't show up for their flights and they need to keep planes are full as possible to remain profitable.
"Russia is sending two Corvettes --- not THAT one!" ROFL!! Good delivery, Phil!
Someone forgot to give those security guards a Pepsi.
I love your face Phil but am still disappointed with the non mention of the Stockholm terrorist attack!
On another note- does anyone else think Boris looks a bit like Matt Lucas in a yellow wig?
Wish Phil would bring back the Have a Great F***ing Day shirt. That's the shirt I really want
Thank you for not having ads during your content...
He's not so much as defending his workforce as he is defending his policy of under paying people for the seat they take and taking seats at all.
War...war never changes.
Hancock War does change, it gets worse over time, as we as a species evolve with technology and such. Wars did and will continue to get bloodier and costlier and more horrific, sadly. From spears to WMD's, from horseback to tanks. I'm glad us humans have the limited lifespan that we do, I'd rather not see what horrors of war await us in, say 100 years from now. god help us all
Kylo Bren I don't think you caught my drift mate. I still appreciate your reply.
Hancock, my man! I used to always bring you everywhere, because fuck all of the other companions, Lol.
Hancock Ah okay xP. What were you saying then?
An Evil Lawn Flamingo I love your name
Adding my 2 cents on United because why not?
I hope they take a huge hit and it slaps some sense into the industry as a whole.
This guy's past deeds, no matter what they are or when they happened, are between him and the state or federal govt that convicted him. He's either paid his dues or is paying them now, according to our justice system, for better or worse.
If we are going to judge him based on his past, what's the point of even having a justice system?
How the f is it up to United Airline to determine his guilt?
When people fuck up in this country, they need means of being forgiven. Eternal damnation is for someplace besides civilian life USA, whatever your crime.
thanks for explaining yourself and covering the story love your show :)
United Airlines: Come for the seating. Stay for the beating.
Beating up a shitty person who is a customer still counts as beating a customer. Even if he does not have a good reason to be home that doesn't mean you get to beat the shit out of him.
Like they actually looked into this guys past before kicking him off smh
Well with my dealing with 16 medical/emotional conditions and no cure for four of them, yes it is just a matter of time before I break on through and go home. No one can beat the Art of Dying. Watched my dad die in front of me four years ago yesterday. The main question is are you ready? Will Heaven or Hell be your home? Yet with all this and more going on, I will continue being an activist and taking a stand against oppression, injustice and intolerance!
