We just rent the Clio Techno TCe 90, 6 speed gearbox, 1.0 liter displacement. A few days before rent the Opel Corsa GS line with an Mild Hybrid option with the 100 hp engine. Following was observed: - drivetrain, despite the Corsa feels much more powerful, the hybrid retarter application was done not well, it comes late in at deceleration fuel cut off (around 2 s) and then quite feelable. Fuel consumption was around 6.4 liters in our mountainous area. The Clio drivetrain is enough powerful to get from A to B and to overtake in a safe duration on land streets. Consumption was around 6.0 liters in the same area. Both shifters are easy, maybe a bit under defined for both. - suspension, Corsa understeering was quite huge compared to the VW Polo (6R, 1.6 TDI, BMT, -10 mm ride height), its +150 kg, compared with the Polo, of weight might one of the reasons, surely not the only one. Didn't convince me. The turn in capacity of the Clio is a bit better, feels controlable, and way more softer in damping, the 40 km/h street bumpers in the Corsa were a bit of more drama, but still acceptable. Overall my VW Polo is still the one who has a solid drivetrain, defined shifting and turn in capacity, way higher MPG (55-72, or 4,3-3,3 l/100 km). If the decision was between the Clio and the Corsa, its the Clio.
Yep, just like you said, the main reasons for TCe 90 manual alpine version of this Clio are: price, storage space, safety, features. You can pay extra for an autopark feature, only available for Esprit Alpine version. We've had it since March, two kids (3,5) at the back, done 10.000 km so far, excellent car. We've even added 380-litre official accessory roof box. The Clio has already autobraked on me at about 3 occasions after unexpected sudden braking from the car in front. I think I would've made it anyway, but it's great to know that you've got extra support. It' intuitive, holds steady in corners even at highway speeds. For maximum safety, switch on the adaptive cruise control and lane assist. Very helpful for long drives.
Renault are to be commended for giving us a manual version... many other manufacturers are failing to provide a manual option (supposedly due to emissions?) big mistake..

The new ones come with Overspeed Prevention, I wonder how it works and can you turn it off? what if I'm overtaking? I have yet to find someone tested it.
With an entry model Clio being around £18,000, that still makes it £4,000 more expensive than the entry level Dacia Sandero, which uses the same engine, has the same dimensions, and even the same styling ques, and is a very close relative to the MK5 Clio. I believe the residuals on the Sandero are also better. So, is the extra money for the Clio worth it?
I own a Dacia but at current prices I would go for the Clio if Mazda 3 was not my 1st option. In the past it was only one star NCAP difference between them as at one point Sandero had 4 stars. Now Sandero has 2 with a poor 70% adult occupants protection compared to 96% Clio. You basically at the same impact have 26% better chances in a Clio. Does this alone worth 4000 more? In my book it does. Also keep in mind the following things you get more for the 4K: 1 - Better interior, 2 - Better disk brakes (in the Clio you get the larger 280mm, in Sandero 259mm), 3 - Alloy wheels (steel in Sandero), 4 - A full tail pipe (it was cut on the Sandero to the middle of the car) 5 - better residual value on used cars. A similar mileage Clio will sell better and faster than the Sandero, 6 - 6 speed manual vs 5 speed manual ( Sandero Stepway is too closely priced to Clio to consider it anyway).Unless Dacia brings their cars to a safer level at this prices they will drop sells rapidly.
Tish, a great review as always. Its refreshing to see a review of a car if you are on a budget, not all the singing and dancing cars.

Thanks. I've been waiting for someone to do a UK review of the 1.0 manual!

Lovely little car nice price and quality looks good my choice on a super mini. Great review Trish.
I enjoyed watching the video review, In my opinion the best supermini on sale 😊
Great looking car especially in black. Though i'm a fan of the currant fad of putting black and silver rims on cars. Welll presented again Tish.
I would love to see the TCe110 in this car.
The new ones come with Overspeed Prevention, I wonder how it works and can you turn it off? what if I'm overtaking? I have yet to find someone tested it.
From the 3 levels in the range what would be your choice?
thank you for that good review :)
Great review. A car they need to sell in Australia.
Nice little review😊

Spec looks a lot higher on the clio although I might be wrong
Nice car
Great review
I got a manual version of the new clio
How you liking it ? Been tempted on the hybrid option but can’t justify the extra price or increased insurance costs
I preferred this Tce 90 engine in the Dacia Sandero and it was a lot cheaper too 😉
Covid has given car manufacturers carte blanche to price gouge customers.
but the interior in this one is much nicer.
@@markart157 - Well, the extra £4,000 for the entry model Clio over the entry model Sandero has to go somewhere I guess?
@WheelieMacBin yes true, well up to customer to chose I guess?

shame we can’t have a decent power in the car. A Clio Turbo just for a swan song would be great.
The hybrid look pretty powerful to me
@@samuele5931 145 bhp isn’t quite enough. Imagine 230 or 250bhp in a Clio.
The Tce 90 engine is turbocharged.
@@WheelieMacBinI know. But I’m talking about a proper engine with a decent turbo and some proper power not this pipsqueak of a thing.
Luv it
Nice review! Really appreciate that
