    Here are my thoughts on the state of paladins and particularly the role of tank.
    Hopefully this comes across as intended, as positive feedback! This is no hate to Evil mojo, I like what they have been doing with the game, I just want to illuminate these points and spark some discussion.
    Apologies for the audio of this being bad I forgot to remove all the grain and whatnot! in future videos I will fix this! (let me know your thoughts on the video as well as on the subject in the comments, hopefully the devs will see this and it will spark some discussion around this topic)
    In all honesty I feel like Fernando should be pushed out of the 'true point tanks' and lean more towards an offtank, his kit feels like it was designed to be off tank. This would result in Nando becoming a more situational point tank who thrives early game but falls off late game. Increase wrecker cost/potency will help with this scaling. If wrecker is buffed Torvald should also have a compensating buff as well.
    Addition here: Torvald protection as an ability is strong! I'm aware it probably sounded like I think its a bad ability. But to clarify I believe protection is a good ability, but it is not the main aspect of his kit that makes him broken - which is his self sustain and CC application, (this forced 2 item buys on the enemy team)

    I love the fact that every year since Paladins' release a long high quality essay comes out about the game's issues and then you never hear about the game for another year

    Frontlines in Paladins feel a bit too team-reliant and shield-reliant to make use of their damage outside of dr niches (Inara, Nyx), health niches (Yagorath, Khan) and personal shields (Torvald's OP Recharge shield, Ash's mobile shield, Makoa's base shield). Good Barik players sometimes struggle against good Fernando players simply because Chivalry regens so quickly and Tinkerin has a 12 second shield cooldown while Barik has lower kit-build synergy.
    For Frontlines, Inara and Nyx are examples of how too much dr can be an issue, Fernando is an example of how shield health matters and Barik (pre-health regen nerf/600 HP nerf) is an example of how health/sustain can make an impact.
    People love playing damage and mobility talents on Frontlines; SoB is Khan's reigning meta, people played (and still sorta prefer) Scorch on Fernando and Aerial Assault has been one of Ruckus' top talents for a long while.
    The term 'Frontline' as a noun means a person meant to fight on the frontlines, but if a Frontline lacks the damage to make space at better levels of play then maybe Frontlines can be buffed around damage with weaker shields/bulk niches so that Frontline matchups come down to mechanical skill/positioning instead of doing rocket science for comp building.

    it feels like most of the issue is how nyx is overtuned
    this state of the tank meta feels so much better than playing overwatch rn due to the existence of offtanks
    term kind of steamrolls barik imho, unless barik goes a very weird max turret hp build and forces dozer from term

    This is interesting but honestly I don’t see this problem play out that often the tanks are definitely a little overturned but honestly these scenarios only seem to work with just tanks in a vacuum and not considering teammates supporting you or the enemy providing pressure there’s a flow to tanks and while there definitely needs to be a little tuning overall the balance of the game is in a pretty decent spot

      I agree the balance is good! I just feel in ranked especially when drafting, by locking one of these tanks into a good matchup e.g nando ban nyx pick -> if your team basically just plays for point controll you are pretty much uncounterable! Obviously if one of your team is significantly worse than the other it doesn't track

      @@shrimp258 with how good certain drafts are you have to sacrifice your 2nd tank so you can have 2 dps aswell as 2 supports and when you then don't win the tank match up it can be disheartening. But the root of it is even when not in a vacuum. Let's take a high level game where there is a Nyx Nara match up.
      Nyx and Nara start fighting in off lane with team. Nyx uses shield now she keeps her team out of dmg whilst keeping the ability to deal damage at the same time with no risk to herself. Nara has to use wall which blocks her PoV and can't be shot through.
      Nyx Rift Slash is basically just a better Ranged version of warders field in every way.
      Nyx Q Deals % based damage, charges ult from that dmg, denies ult charge, reduces damage taken.
      Inara Q reduces damage taken by %, Increases healing received %, grants CC immunity. just in breaking down the kits and using the first explanation you can see how oppressive the tank match up can be and even outside the vacuum they still apply to the resources traded in the tank exchange.

    As a Nando's main,you nailed it. Im very sad, i love formitable, and its no doubt his "hardest" talent. But Scorch was to strong, and now formitable is weak again. They should have just nerfed the Scorch shield or the dmg. Formitable should be his all time talent if you play it really well. You getting no value for a much harder playstyle.

    This is infinitely better than only having ONE tank on the team and all the roles have a hard counter to that one tank.

      Soft and hard counters keep matchups from stalemating (or becoming forced mirror matchups), but having the ability to counter your counters via good gameplay matters.

    I definitely see all of your arguments and points often being true: however, i don't see them as necessarily being "an issue".
    This is a hero shooter after all, where, the drafting is part of the ranked experience. You should be able to get an advantage by having a better draft, and you should be put at a disadvantage where you have a bad draft. I definitely think that there should still be a good possibility of winning despite that disadvantage if there were to be a large enough discrepency in skill, which, absolutely is the case in paladins, given that its a very VERY high skill-cap game, much more than people usually give it credit for.

    I was on board until you said increase wrecker to 120% which is absurd, and increase caut build up rate. That is going to deny so many tanks the ability to even play the game and so many healers from even being able to be played due to them not being able to pump out enough healing fast enough especially if your team isn’t building up rejuv fast enough. Realistically this would create a solo tank solo or double healer and double dmg or double dive meta with a dmg. Multiple people would buy wrecker especially if any 1 shield tank shows their face god forbid you pick 2 shield tanks. Torvald would be useless, khan, makoa, nando, and maybe even ash. Barik would crumble. You’d only see tanks with annoying DR and infinite absorbs like wall atlas, terminus, azaan and Inara. Raum would be rendered useless due to cauterize scaling and his shield card would also become useless for players who like the extra buffer while winding up their escape. The only playable healers would be Lilith, ying, IO, & solar blessing furia, an argument could be made for damba/pip in niche circumstances. All other healers would require you to run double support and that means 7/10 matches your team is gonna lose to cauterize building to quickly and your team lacking dmg. Shields would be nonexistent and guardian would be useless again although I’d argue it kind of is now depending upon your matchup. I do like making healers and tanks not just be heal bots and point princesses and play around cover and cauterize. But these changes especially in combination would leave half the roster in ruins. It would make the ttk in this game overwatch levels of quick with 1 or 2 good players on a good character potentially team wiping the enemy team. Shield tanks would not be able to utilize their shield to cleanse cauterize as they retreat to safety as it would be instantly destroyed. Maybe it wouldn’t be that bad and a play test would be nice, but I can see the effects of those to changes being disastrous.

      Would not an increase in wrecker cost offset the buff to a degree? My aim here is to make game progression more potent. So tanks would have to adapt to the play style? Maybe 120% is too big a buff but I feel if evil mojo then added some more items that benefit tank maybe that could work as well!?
      I also feel like actually it would also discourage the supports you're talking about as burst healing out of caut becomes better no?
      I super appreciate you giving your thoughts though! Do you think any changes should be made to tank generally though?

      @@thesatietycascade9568 in theory yes depending on the significance of the cost increase of wrecker and the team comp. But in matches where there’s a strong shield solo tank or 2 decent shield tanks. I mostly foresee 2-3 enemy team players buying wrecker especially since its bufffed status would make shields much weaker. I can recall many games as a support or a tank where I’m buying wrecker to support my team when playing
      point tank with removing the enemies shields. Off tank not so much. Unless the enemy team had a torvald or something. As far as healers go burst healers I feel like are the main healers that are strong right now. And sometimes you can’t always give your teammates uncauterized heals especially if your tanks protection abilities are down. So burst heals will still be super prevalent and the DoT like healers will suffer more overall. They already fall off hard with their ability to keep up late game. Like jenos and Corvus are already kind of niche healers and I would argue grohk is too depending on playstyle/team comp. I think maybe giving those characters more utility to add to the team might be useful instead of making them heal bots as well to give diversity to the game/matchups. As for tank changes I actually think there would be some healthy changes to the tank meta but half of my ideas revolve around nerfing DR and CC resil but recombining those items because that split is trash imo. I think removing a lot of DR from the game at least passive DR would be healthy and increase health pools at least by 10-15% across the classes would be nice. For DR reduction and health increase. I would also like a base movement speed buff to all characters and the tanks without movement abilities with additional movement speed. Lastly for tanks I hate the nerfs to Fernando because it really feels like any other tank you can play most talents and be fine with playing point tank but they have really pushed aegis as being the only ability to play point tank so maybe need certain tanks and supports ult charge rate. Insert strong ult here. Lastly it would be nice to make Raum/yag an ult charge battery (in my personal opinion please remove yag from the game, I’m sick of players thinking they can make it work in my lobby just to get completely ganked).Lastly slightly more balancing on the offtanks.

    A lot of good points! I don't quite agree with the conclusions you came to though, especially about Wrecker and Caut. I don't think any minor price increase will stop teams from stacking wrecker, and if wrecker is too strong it stops tanks from using their shields to play around Caut, which you also suggested buffing. Making wrecker stronger would also really hurt any team comp that included more than 1 shield tank, as that encourages the other team to stack it.
    Definitely agree on Term's place in the game, he's really strong but also map dependant. There are certain maps he can't play on, which means he'll never be totally overbearing and his current state is pretty well balanced for counterplay, especially against off-tanks.
    Nyx could certainly use an increase to how quickly the tick damage scales up. i.e if she's got 4000 damage stored, it should cash out much faster relative to if she only has 1000. If you can sink lethal damage into a tank, that tank should not be able to keep standing there and getting healed for another 5 seconds. I would like a rework to reward her for keeping the stored damage under a certain threshhold, say 2000, where that maintains a healable tickrate, but then punish her with much faster cash-out if she oversteps and eats too much focus fire.
    The situation with Sentinel and Unbound is tough, because like you said the previous version Resilience made talents like cripple Inara feel really bad to play, but now it feels bad to play against. Cripple Inara does seem like an outlier because of how that ability works, so I can see a world where that talent is removed and the game would likely be better off. For someone like Ash, with a less harsh type of CC, I like the split. It makes it so she'll always have an angle to play with her CC. More mobile tanks like Barick and Nando don't much need knockback resist because of their dashes, and the DR tanks don't suffer as badly when they're stunned. Which leaves each type to focus on only one of the items and to consider the rest of the enemy team. The split also lets you plan around it by picking two tanks with different types of CC
    You also didn't include any mention of how off-tanks upset the balance you outlined in the point-tank matchups. Totally understandable, that would have been a MUCH longer and more complex video, but they throw off the potentially harsh counters quite a bit, Inara or Barik can fight into Nyx pretty well if they've got a Ruckus/Raum backing up damage and tagging off with point pressence or Makoa/Khan punishing her lack of mobility. Terminus is strong into Inara/Nyx, but he gets messed up by a well-timed Makoa hook knocking his shield down and Atlas hard counters his ult. Duo off-tank can play some maps completely circumventing the objective until the healer or most of the damage are killed and then a point-tank can't sustain alone.
    I think the issues you brought up are most prominent for solo tank team comps, and while that's a really important part of the game, a lot of the solutions you proposed would punish duo tanks quite harshly and lead to even less people wanting to play tank, which I would consider just as much of an issue right now. I'm not sure how to convince people just how fun tank is, because it seems like more of a player problem than a game problem, but stuff like your Inara jump guides are probably helping :D

    I think increasing the price of wrecker would be a really good change. That way, pretty much just the main DPS would buy it, which not only frees up item slots for the others, but also allows for more counterplay by putting pressure on the wrecker-buyer to make space the tank!
    Also feel free to not use a pure white background next time, my eyes are burning *~*

    You could also make the price of both sentinel and unbound drastically lower and scale higher.
    Also, you are 100% correct. People don't realize how good terminus can be, off tank OR point tank when played well. Siphon is busted if you use it well.

      thanks! I wanted to try something different! often I feel no one talks paladins theory and its a reason the game is very highly casual-ised. So I figured if we can get the ball rolling on people talking about it, we might be able to start an overall shift in the way people play the game!

    Alright just so we're clear, you're telling me:
    1.) Term's the best point tank aside from maybe Nyx, since apparently Nando barely counts
    2.) When I'm playing Inara I should pick Treachorous Ground instead of Mother's Grace
    3.) I'm not allowed to run Formidable anymore. :(

      Err basically lol. Term isn't the best but he is very good! Does his job well. Inara yes. Only play MG if they have a CC you're concerned by. Don't run it as the default talent anymore! And formidable is kinda eh. Caus aeigis just has to much value (again) ;-; kinda sucks sorry lol

    nah, as a hardcore seasoned Aegis Nando player, wrecker shouldnt be buffed. If it is then the price gets to 400 per tier, take it or leave it.
    You havent experienced how it feels when 4 players RUSH wrecker and gang up on you. Even now they sneeze and shield is gone already. Wrecker IS good enough. Also since Caut is no longer an item, you can AFFORD to rush wrecker easily so theres really no reason for a drastic 40% per tier wrecker buff. It is an extremely volatile item and should only be buffed/nerfed by 5% per tier PER PATCH to see if the small tuning tweak is good or not. Rn it is good and effective enough. Thanks to a global shield nerf from 8k to 5k hp on most tanks, as well as the HP nerf on most tanks as well, Tanks now run on a thin line between being an actual tank or just a beefed up flank. Overtune the wrecker and tanks arent capable of playing like a tank even briefly, they are flanks now which cant even protect their team anymore because they'd die.

    Dis was cool, but with all the mention of terminus being better than people think could you make a sorta guide or something like that on him? I’ve always liked terminus but never quite got him to work so that would be cool to see

      I could definitely try. I wouldn't say I'm amazing at terminus though. I'd recommend watching zarini on terminus!

    Another used-to-be-competetive tank player there, was quite intresting to listen for your takes, i too think Nyx shaken tank matchups a bit too much, she is really opressive vs any high hp tank, really hard to not get top dmg in a team, which makes me wonder why other players in my or enemy team i see suck so hard on nyx.
    What teams were you playing in btw?

      I only played in some casual tournaments nothing fancy aha! At a high dia sort of level. So you probably understand the game more than me!
      I think nyx is very strong and basically once nando is banned in rank a nyx pick can set your team up very effectively and almost grant you a win as long as you have the mechanical skill of more than a cabbage XD

      @@thesatietycascade9568 Well obviously any non-casual tournammets were hard to get into casue needing org, but PGS was a great chance for anyone to get in pro scene, even for lower populated regions. In my region, CIS, there was only one strong team, of ex-tf2 pros, that flew in Atlanta for LAN, and other teams were competing for second place.
      Teams I was playing in were not close, though we took a map from SourTeam once (the one with HandsomeJack, maydayy and some other dudes i dont remember), so i dont think I was particulary good or knowledgable, and after release of these new, crazy overtuned flanks and reworking old ones, it feels like im just a boomer on a wheelchair who stumbled in ultrakill instead of paladins.
      PGS before being abandoned by hirez was the greatest time of my shitty life, really. Im sure you had something better than some "pro gamer" roleplay in the dying game in life.
      Also like the fact that youtube didnt notificate me on your awnser, just in this specific case.

      I could get behind this. Would allow for more purchases, don't think you want to make credits more but another item could be good. Just would need to be carefull with DR items...

    Term actually very decent im doing term to gm on my smurf currently i started from g4 now d3 and i can say that term is actually good than %80 of tank roster

      kind of.. he was because of shield and whenever his shield is over-tuned he becomes to good at point. when his shield is ass he kinda sucks. so becomes a nightmare to balance. atm u can run him point with aegis.

    Id say we need more tanks that are tanks and not OFF-tanks.... inara,nyx, Barik,and terminus are the only four tanks...

    It might be an unpopular opinion but i think caut is a bad mechanic :
    1st its bad for new players who dont know it exist and its explained nearly nowhere they moght get it if they play healer but a damge main might go all his playtime complaining about heals while not getting out of caut
    2nd you could just lower the overal heal mumbers and the balance would be pretty unchained but if you still want the progression during matches just lower caut to 50%late game and realy lower the healing output
    3rd healing tanks is a nightmare with 90% caut , there tanks there always under fire and there slow the cant always get to a wall or cleanse themselves or even know to do that and late game is when the get countered the most by wrecker and everything
    I donno , i might be dumb but id like to hear thoughts 😊

      Anti-healing in Paladins has been unhinged for the longest time with the brief exception of season three with adanas 🐯 the balance master, which was overall a better direction for the game. Unfortunately some people complained and everything since has been in the complete opposite direction. The Paladins community wants everything to have huge numbers whilst contributing nothing to the outcome of a match, tanks aren’t allowed effective shields, supports aren’t allowed effective healing, flanks aren’t allowed effective cooldowns, but don’t worry because you’re average joe sitting on our damage champs are doing the simplest tasks but receiving all the autonomy over how matches play out. Trust me when I say that the Paladins community isn’t like us who find the state of anti-healing distasteful and unsatisfying, you’re likely better off spending your time elsewhere and the obvious options for a similar and higher quality experience are Overwatch and Team Fortress.

      The point of paladins, what sets it apart from other games is game progression.
      Game progression in paladins is caused by 2 things, the item shop and cauterize -> cauterize used to be part of the item shop. The TTK should get shorter as the game goes on, allowing some champions to excell at early game and fall of later as well as the opposite.
      Removing caut? And all you end up with is early game tripple support comps.
      Double support heals through 50% easily, caut starts at something like 40% as it is and double supp still is almost a guaranteed 2:0 at the start if your team aren't terrible.
      So no caut should not be changed, or removed, maybe even buffed imo. But I appreciate you asking! Hopefully that answered your question about that mechanic.

      Also about tanks being under fire -> it forces a different more intelligent more mechanically skilled play style so should 100% be encouraged. I'm currently in the works of making a video about skill decline in support design at the moment which will touch on a lot about what you have said!

      @@thesatietycascade9568 I get that thought prossesse but then tell people realy clearly caut is a thing I spent 1 month full playing on a new acount after loosing my old one and not playing for about 5 years without nowing caut was a feature now and not nowing somthing so crucial to the game is a curse it's barely advertised or explained its stupid and I think is the biggest contribution to the hate for "bad" healers , skill issue is indeed an answer to that but you need a game that can still work on lower ranks and higher ranks. you can restric the number of healers allowed in a match as a solution or it wouldn't be a viable comp to go double or triple healer cause then It would just turn into a sumo esque game I donno 🤷‍♂️
      Apreciate the response this thread is great I understand you're point but for me if you put caut as base game because everybody bought the item then why not put armor plating as base kit and chronos too I don't think my solution is the best either I just think the constant reworks have made the game a bit overcomplicated and you can't backpedal too much so you're kinda stuck here (ae the games is not to beginer friendly and we need more players )

    also banned pepol are built different they have good aim or game sens but just have too 100% every game for progress thath a totaly different game thath why you play lilith or torvald not because she strong but its because the most consistent way too out healing enemie who is the only way too 100% game and then win some game for pepol who are banned.

      Healing is the hardest way to win games. the easiest is Engage. Furia Pip Grohk Drogoz Nando Ruckus Torvald Koa.
      these champs have good engage in their kit and if your team follows up a little or is communicating the wins drop in ur lap

    A tank that is not a threat holds no aggro. Everyone will just walk past them if they are all hp and no damage. Also, that's crazy boring, tanks work in Paladins and don't work in overwa-cashgrab-tch2 because tanks are fun and in a perfect spot in paladins.

      I don't see how the changes I suggest make tanks hold no threat? I'm talking about tanks fighting into other tanks! Main tank here not off tank.
      If anything it will encourage tanks fighting other people and not just going to point and botting there? Surely that makes the game more dynamic?
      Tanks are fun! But if you have ever played into a very point heavy comp I think you will feel the matchup issue.

You should lose if you draft and ban incorrectly. You should die if that results in your ADC getting a multikill. being a main tank doesn't mean your the main character. Main character syndrome is killing gaming. make the proper trades. Win the game not the 1v1.

    I think if your talking about nerfing tanks in any way you are fundamentally wrong and don't understand the role of tanks. They are in a good spot right now. Worring about tanks countering other tanks is pointless and doesn't consider that this isn't a 1v1 tank game. If you have ANY problem ANY ANY PROBLEM AT ALL with a tank you fix it with the damage role. You do not change tanks, you change stupid human mistakes. Stop playing dumb, play against the enemies on your screen. If 1 tank is superior then move your damage or healing resources around to fix the problem. Games are fundamentally about fixing problems the game throws at you. Make better choices fix your own problem. Tanks on both teams should be the last to die in most situations. You can however find a workaround to your problem that makes an exception functional. I'm so sick of modern gamers crying about balancing. The queen is OP in chess but did they nerf her, no they learned how to play the game instead of blaming the pieces. Games don't need balancing, you need to get good.

      I'm not saying the role is broken and skill isn't a large part? I don't understand the aggression here honestly ;-; I was just suggesting changes because I feel some tanks have too much value. And like you say, require too many resources to be used upon them! Which then allows more util from your team to get through uncountered?
      I'd really appreciate though if you reply respectfully though next time. I love to hear different opinions but don't finish your point telling players to just get good, there's no need.

Thats what tanks are meant to be nux in my opinion the only tank thats bit overturned now if anything damage is less bullshit to deal with like casie the basic bitch who delete you from playing the game she the only reason i pick zhin into her so i try close as much gap as i can and force a 1v1 where im close to her and zhin has 2 ways of avoiding damage ! Imagine if i can’t avoid d damage like zhin can your dead and gone there is nothing you can to do vs ez damage dealers like evie who hit you and run away getting old man -_- or lian auto aim you thin hitscan you to death strong tanks force them to deal with them instead of afk gaming in the back with no contest or interaction plus you can help but single handily you wont carry your full team unless your gold and both teams suck at doing things if anything there one of the few games that make tanks fun and not one dimensional even flanks have that its way i love zhin his not lame fly all around the map and be annoying his 1vs1 mid range fighter with no DR or healing you either kill him or he kills you games make tanks the same man it’s boring look what league become fighters are tanker thin tanks there

Also, there is no way to mean get good without saying get good. Getting good is not an insult it's a challenge for the individual to become better. In most cases games are not broken, players are. I never said move more resources so the tank wins his duel, I did hint that a healer could do that but not say outright that was correct. The correct action is tank dies or tank pushes aggressively into enemy ADC and death ball rolls over the enemy team using his damage heroes not himself. Make the space even if you die, your carries have to win the game not your tanks. Carries must learn to adapt to tank limits and stats.
