- Yeaaa, what started off as an exciting hopeful first experience with a plumber turns me learning a new trade lmaaaoo...I didn't think that day would end in me drenched in sweat but it definitely reminded me things will not always work out the way you expect...I am thankful for it tho because the more I know how to do on my own the better I'll be as a home owner...

I had my plumber come out because I didn’t have the confidence to do it myself. He charged me a little over $200. BTW, you did a fabulous job on glazing your garage floor. Check the age of the water heater. Sulfur type smell could be the anode rode has deteriorated which is what it is designed to do. Don't even ask how I know this!🤦🏾♀️ However, it needs replacing or the water heater should be replaced depending on age. Also, review water heater flush and upgrading your water heater drain spigot. The joys of home ownership are costly! 😉

I was just about to say you need to call a new plumber. It really did sound like she was practicing. Hopefully she improves in the future but yes to a good diy. I would have done the same thing. RUclips has taught me so much, everything from learning to box braid to changing the tail light on my Jeep.

Yeah, first project successfully completed👏. Here’s a thought. ARS heating & plumbing Company. I pay $20.00 a month to them. They come out 2 x a year for the HVAC and 1 x a year for the plumbing. I no longer drain my water heater🙂. Having a maintenance plan gives me a % off if any works needs to be done and they say I get faster service. Never had an emergency so... I ask for the same Two gentlemen each year. Both are very nice and enjoy teaching me when I ask questions. ARS can test your water. I was told even if I didn’t have the plan the Plumber would come out 1x a year at no charge. All ya gotta do is call and ask when u r ready. LED bulbs only. Will you cut your own grass? Yep got suggestion on that. Hey been there done that. Have never been keeper of info. Hearing an alternative gives you ability to make smarter decisions. So what did you think of the service between Lowe’s and Home Depot? The sun sets on what part of your home?
The info you give is beyond information I appreciate it, sun sets on the back of the house...I....think lol I found that Lowe’s was a bit more helpful ....but Home Depot had more selection 😭
GlamorousWallflower First you mentioned getting charge cards for Lowe’s or Home Depot or both. NO. This effects your FICA score. You qualified for NACA, however sometime down the road another car is needed due to replacement. Every time you charge something, your FICA score goes down, until thee amount is paid. Pay by cash is a one and done. You charge cause it is a necessity and each paycheck you put aside the charge amount divided by paychecks for when the bill comes due. Have you called your Electric Company and water to get a feel what your bills could be? Stand in your living room face the direction where the Atlantic Ocean is- that will be east and behind you is west. Keep standing😊, to the right is south and left is north. South and west are brutally hot. These windows in your home need some efficient window coverings. The goal is to have a electric bill that doesn’t make you go into fits. Home Depot - Gila see online- videos. Read the reviews, there are always whiners, who I believe did not follow the directions. I did this on two bathroom windows, ground floor, lots of light and have a blind too that I pull up. I then later took off, had the house professionally filmed(saved for that), then put back on.
You have ceiling fans, walmart has ceiling fan dusters in great colors, tis a time saver. Before these came on the market at least once a year sometimes more I would drag the ladder out climb up and begin to wipe each paddle. The dust that accumulated was ugh! These dusters telescope. Also you might have a button on each fan for direction of spin. Ya gonna have to look that up, counter and clock wise go hand in hand with the season- summer or winter. I use the end of the telescoping duster to reach the button. Also I have a small book that keeps account of what maintenance has been done in my home. I date it June 2020 and then state it. For you -First entry water heater replaced, then shower heads. I go back to it from time to time. Do you know the year your home was built and who the builder was? Which will help you find out the R value of your ceiling and walls. This all plays into your electric bill. When is moving day? Last thing google plumbing supply store and your town- innards of toilet tanks will need to be replaced someday- have a looksie, you can tell old or new.

Look at a few RUclips videos on faucet installation and you can fix these minor things yourself, however that plumber ripped you off. Don’t use them again. I always try to fix first to save money, as always using RUclips videos. I rekeyed locks and hung ceiling fans and etc. you did the thang girl, congrats on your first fix

I went through the same as you with the back and forth buying the same things from Lowe's and home depot. Wether the items are opened or not you can return what didn't work for you. Returning helped me stay in budget. Save your money.

Try to get a reputable plumber don’t let these people do a half assed job on your house is the largest investment you have take care of it because the problems will only get worse with shotty work Good luck to you and your journey

I recommend Home Depot. The quality in the stock they tend to have is better than Lowe’s. Also for the folks commenting that the CEO is black at Lowe’s he actually used to work as a C level employee at Home Depot. Also Home Depot tends to give more opportunities to black creators and home buyers for collaborations.

Girl Great Job! You’ll be amazed at what you can do to save money! This is a learning experience that will now push you to take a second before just calling someone. I worked Lowe’s return desk back in the day. I’ve seen people return plants 🌱 and it literally be a pile of dirt. There were also regulars that would buy a tool that was needed for one project and returned. So they are very lenient with the return policy so take advantage! 😂
They actually took it back since I didn't break anything but I felt so ashamed cause I never do that lol. But I was able to get a replacement doorbell, new lock and some bulbs for the next small diy project lmaoo

Also, I learned from this other youtuber when you are doing home projects have a sheet of paper and pencil near you. When you need to make a store run just jot it down. Move on to the next project. Your list will eventually grow as you keep moving around the house. I hope that helps 😊

!!!CONGRATULATIONS!!! I also bought a house from NACA in December 2018. It was sooooo exciting and to go through the program can sometimes be stressful. My contractor was the worst!!!!!! EVER!!! I wanted to document my journey as well, I haven't socially, however watching you gets me inspired. I'm on my 25th house project...lol and it doesn't end. Take your time and do what you can do.....no rush!!! I hated to hear this, but it is true, you already have the home it's nothing to prove to anyone. Congratulations, again and God Bless!!
