In one of the final episodes on Inauguration day, the movers are clearing all things from Oval office and you get a glimpse of the books being removed from the shelves
The book Josh is bagging on spawned a series in the 70s, "The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams" Unless I miss my guess, Aaron Sorkin worked it in here as a fond remembrance.
@@downhomesunset Cross Country Skiing is something rich kids in Connecticut (where the Josh character grew up) do because they have no hills, let alone actual mountains. It's only as outdoorsy as the next hot toddy.
I would spend HOURS in that store, and leave with so many books. I can't read off an e-reader, and I hate paperbacks, so I buy hardcover books, and if I can find older, leather-bound copies I get ridiculously excited. My prized possession(s) is a three volume edition of War and Peace in navy-dyed calfskin with (most of) the gilt still intact. I've read it/them twice since I got them a year ago, and I've been back to the little store I found them in about two dozen times.
I was a poor reader in elementary school always 2-3 years behind grade level. Always had a love of books. When I finally caught up in high school became a voracious reader. I now have so many books that my wife will not allow me to bring anymore into the house until I let some go. I think she is afraid floor will collapse due to their weight. But which to let go? Could you decide which of your children to get rid of?
I used to feel that way, then in 2002, I started flying multiple times per week for work. My iPad weighs 0.963 pounds. I have kobo, nook, iBook, Blio, and kindle ereaders on the device. I used to pack five or six hardback books in my roll-aboard luggage. About 10 pounds of my 25 pound limit. I just checked my kindle inventory. 4,661 books, 541 magazines, 211 audio books. All available for offline reading. And the tablet is only around half full. I still love old, hard bound books, but I would never go back from ebooks for travel.
God every year ...every Xmas eve I watch two things..A Christmas story...and this episode and it NEVER gets old. OOOH!! And Leo's face while Jed is explaining the book ;)
Hey, that book is the basis of Grizzly Adams. Although the real James Adams was more of a bastard than Dan Haggerty's TV version. I used to love that show.
I, too, have more books than I will ever get to read. My father used to tease me that if I add one more to my shelves they'd go through the floor to the apartment below.

Good grief. It's been 8 years since I wrote that comment! Seems like.....well, a lot less. Pertinent and depressing reflection for my birthday. "Sic transit gloria....."
Clicked on this video purely to voice my outrage that in the title President Bartlet is referred to as 'Jed'. Yeah, I'm way too into The West Wing. I'm not even American. Send help.
+billyemorris - No need to send help to someone who likes THE WEST WING. I think is the best TV series ever in American TV. I also love such TV series as the original AVENGERS and MONTY PYTHON from the UK. You need help when you spend time watching FRIENDS or CHARLIE'S ANGELS. If you might want to catch a few guilty pleasures from US TV check out WKRP IN CINICINNATI and NIGHT COURT. Actually, they are pretty good. Best wishes, Ted
Will, while he is the president in this series, he's still a fictional character. And I hardly think that that requires him to have the same respect given an actual president. I always found it a bit odd to have a character from New Hampshire named Jed. Jed (as in Jedediah, I suppose) seems much more like a southern name to me.
By the time the Republicans are done with libraries in this country, the only book available will be “See Spot Run”, which is well suited to their intelligence.
The President just told Leo that he would rather face a PR nightmare than give up his best friend, and then Leo goes and does this 1:40. Truly, these are best friends.
Honestly, this is exactly the worst kind of Christmas present buyer. The kind who buys stuff that THEY like and they want the gift receiver to like. Sorry, but that sort of gift is annoying. I think that one should give gifts the receiver would like not that you'd like them to like, just because you do. Note that this doesn't count a parent giving a child stuff they truly need like clothing, etc.
crucisnh - Actually, I kind of disagree. Sure, a bit of thought into the needs of the recipient is touching, but I think the present should always reflect something of the giver. Besides, some of the best presents I’ve ever received were things I didn’t think I needed or even wanted. But the person giving me the present truly thought I would get something out of them, as they had done.
@@doubtingthomas6146 Disagree all you want, but I stand by my opinion. I have a brother who is a Born Again Christian who would regularly give me a book or 2 trying to proselytize Christianity. Those books regularly ended up in the trash when I got home. Also, I don't think that the present should reflect anything about the giver … EVER. That sounds like some form of propaganda to me, not a true gift.
I always loved how much of a nerd President Bartlet was.

Josh: "You're quite a nerd Mr. President."

I know he's just a character on a TV show but I would love to see his bookshelves.

Or go to the Library of Congress and see Jefferson's.
It’s amazing that Leo still talks to the president in a formal respectful tone even though he practically made the guy president.
I love how Leo is trying to push the president and the staff into sacrificing him for the greater good of the administration but they refuse.
Yes. Loyalty. Integrity.
THE EYE ROLL AT 1:42. Priceless!
I love that Charlie tries to hint to President Bartlet that he should buy Zoey a stereo instead of that book! 😉

I caught that, too. I bet it is actually a good read. I just don't think Josh is much an outdoorsy sort.

The Nature of Things is actually really good, ngl.
I'm sure it sucked for the actress, but I'm glad they booted the Mandy character.
I agree! Most unlikeable character on the show.
Why wouldn't you want to read about a grizzly bear hunter in California?
I think Josh is very much a city boy through and through.
I actually own one of those books!
Jefferson owned 3 copies.
