- The book 'Tuba Skinny and Shaye Cohn' by Pops Coffee - updated for 2024 - is available from Amazon, both as a paperback and as an eBook. Played here in E flat, 'Mississippi River Blues' is an unpretentious 16-bar 1934 composition by Big Bill Broonzy. You can hear the Broonzy original at: • Big Bill Broonzy-Missi...
This was a performance at the d.b.a. in New Orleans on 10 April 2015; and I am grateful to my late friend David Wiseman for being there to film it and for sending me the video.
What a smooth washboard solo! Robin has always been on the mark with his schtick.
Tuba Skinny is the Best
Fine piece, made all the better by the much-missed Jon Doyle on soprano sax.
Should also have someone 0n the clarinet.
Excellent.
Thanks, Pops!
A super piece of musical cake. Interesting that in many DBA recordings it is difficult to hear any guitar sound, and here...there you go - the guitar sounds beautiful.
Hats off to Pops. Thank you so much.
Wonderful rendition of one of my favorite bands.
Hope all is well in Nottingham and you’re safe from all the hooliganism. Beware of the goofballs, even though an old bloke like you can handle a ruffian- watch your six!
Thanks. All serenely musical here in Nottingham.
Nice one Pops , I do prefer this band with Charlie on trom , it might be that I'm a trombonist myself
Who’s Charlie? Where is Barnabus?
@@Bill5071 Charlie Halloran usually was the trombonist when they played at the dba at that time. For more info, see my book 'Tuba Skinny and Shaye Cohn', available from Amazon.
Is that John back in the band on clairenet? Hebis great on sax too!
Note the date of the recording.
