You have found the secret to being happy, for about 50 years I have refused to jump and run into my day. I feed the birds, eat a slow breakfast and think what is important to do next then I sit down and read my Bible.

Gabe, grabbed a journal one of my kids gave me, wrote down the most important things to me, then made a conscious choice to reschedule my life so that I can include them, rather than have regrets later. Learned about 24-hour scheduling when in college. It included scheduling free time.

No to hiking barefoot outdoors. A couple of weeks ago I picked up a shard of glass and a rusty nail in the bottom of my Merrells. A friend picked up a parasite through the bottom of her feet while vacationing in Cancun a few years back, sick for 1+ years!

Thank you, I have ADHD and I feel like I'm constantly running after a version of me I'll never be and always regret after. I want to keep it up with my studies but also not do too much because I know I'll burn out. I want to have time to spend with my friends, with myself, with my mother. I'll definitely try to do what it is important RIGHT NOW, while I sleep well, do my workouts that I love and set a little time a day to study English (it's not my first language). I'm 20 years old and I feel like I was never happy in my own skin and I WANT TO!!! Thank you for the videos

My wife and I have never work more than 2 days/week
(All we kept is a 6 months emergency fund)
So we could enjoy the most important things: making good friends, hiking, reading, learning new things, listening & playing music…

    Hi Gabe,
I’ve been watching your channel for a while now and appreciate what you have to say in this. I’m in my last semester of graduate school and over the last six years been trying to simplify as much as possible in life since a relationship ended and also focus on sustainability, supporting local, buying less, etc. This episode brought a lot of value because the stress is on in my life to finish graduating in April and I’m trying to resist the tide of what everyone else expects me to be doing after school, and instead carve my own path of more simplicity and satisfaction to live more slowly, instead of succumbing to societal or family pressure currently pushing to be this or do that or make this much money in order to be successful. My chosen career is as a librarian, and I hope others get to see this video and realize they don’t have to live competitively for others, in order to live effectively for themselves. While I’m not yet fully minimalist yet, I’m still on the life journey to be, and so I thank you for creating content like this to keep inspiring others on their own journeys. Please take care, and well wishes to your family.

My hope would be that younger people learn the lesson you are teaching in this video. I've run run run my entire adult life. At 57 years old, I'm starting to understand t he value in slowing down. Wish I would have got this when I was younger. I still have a long ways to go.

Thank you for the video. I started watching your channel in December and it has helped me quite a bit. I've made it my goal for this year to reduce the amount of stuff I have. It's just one small space a day, like a shelf or a storage bin. Taking these small steps to decluttering reduces the stress of the process and helps me to stay on track. It'll be interesting to see what happens at the end of the year.

The burden I feel is that the only way to avoid getting yelled at by bosses, clients, etc. is to go full speed all the time. Then I worry about the quality of my work, which increases that burden, and when I get through traffic and get home, I have to be "on" for the wife and kids. There is no real downtime, no opportunity to slow down. This is my reality, not in any way trying to disagree with the video. I am just lost at how to actually accomplish this and keep my job and family happy.

    • @DEGRUCTable
      @DEGRUCTable Год назад +3

Thank you, I'm glad I found a comment like this. There's nothing inherently wrong with the suggestions in this video, but to be honest they kind of ignore the reality that most people live in career-wise.
Much of what is being suggested here seems kind of tonedeaf in terms of being only viable for people who *can* "take control of their schedule".
If the kind of career you've invested years into has an expectation of time/energy commitment that's not up to you to decide (e.g. 60+ hr work weeks in IT project management), there are very limited options in integrating slow living.
Yes small habits can be integrated into our personal lives and free time, but ultimately the only suggestion for some people to live the way that's being suggested in this video is to quit their job.
The primary issue with most RUclips guru culture is that they're time management and lifestyle suggestions being taken from people who almost entirely get to dictate their own work structure on a day-to-day basis. It's unreasonable...

Slowing down and living in the present is something that I've really concentrated on the last few weeks. Live in the "now" and let the past stay in the past, no need to dig it back up, and allow the future to unfold as it will. Don't stress over what hasn't happened yet. Focus on now and enjoy it more.

The paradox of this video about simplifying your life is that instead of just listening ,by the way, very wise ideas of the author, we have to be dealing with that annoying music in the background which consists of a simple motive, repeating itself over and over and drilling in my brain constantly without mercy. :). these days people add music and all possible, kind of effects and additional sounds to pretty much every video, just because they can.
