This is a good thing. We are all different people now than we were four or five years ago. We’ve all been through quite a lot since then. You sharing relevant information in a calm gentlemanly manner once a week is much better than rapid-fire fluff content. You seem happier now.

Excellent video as always Peter!. Always look forward to them for your photography instructional/informative videos. I'm sure that most of your followers have a different assortment of gear & there are many videos of brand x being better than brand y or z. Your photography videos have been a great benefit to my hobby & I occasionally rewatch them, to pick up pointers I miss in the first pass. Looking forward to the next video.

Hi Peter. First of all I find that your Global Photo-project a genius initiative. I look forward to see the book, but have already seen the photos in the galleries, and the diversity is very inspiring. Your link to your new Squarespace lead me to an invitation to create a website first at Squarespace then a different website builder. I had to try via a google search to find your site. I managed but as I am not into street photography myself I don’t think I can give you much 😢 feedback per se. I liked looking at your photos - I think you have a great eye for catching interesting situations , people and objects. I think the right thing on any RUclips channels is that the creator does what he/she feels is the right thing, and not hunt the algorithm. I like people explaining their experience with gear, gear that they use for real and not something a manufacturer has shipped with the hope to gain a positive review video - which in most cases is what happens! I look forward to follow your choises.

    Hi Peter
I really enjoy your videos and your teachings of photography. I like when you tell your experiences with your cameras, such as the Ricoh on street photo and so on. But generally I agree with you that the photographic parts are more interesting (regardless of camera brand and type). I think one video a week is good. Then we all have time to see it, and also you have time to create it. For me live publishing is not necessary when one can comment and get answers after publishing. I really like your assignments and photo book projects. Very cool. Like all of your presentations. Have a good weekend.

Tips and how images are made and the thinking/philosophy that went into them are far more valuable. I watch your videos because I love seeing how you photograph Helsinki, and how you display and discuss the photos you've taken. It's beautiful!
Gear videos are always more popular in every creative industry. My music gear videos have hundreds of times more views than any other type of video. People want to buy things and they look at videos of the stuff they might be interested in buying. It's just consumer research. RUclipsrs tend to make these videos because this is where the money is. They get on that treadmill, want to make an easy career out of it, become dependent on the income, and can never stop. It's my opinion that no one should become dependent on Google or corporate sponsorships for their income - they are fickle beasts, and a creator's artwork suffers for it. So I think you have the right idea to treat RUclips like a passion project that you use for the love of photography and community engagement while bolstering projects and revenue streams that are not directly tied to RUclips.
Anyway, I'll continue watching your videos probably no matter what you decide to do. You seem like a cool dude!

Thanks Peter…all make sense to me. As for new gear reviews I tend to avoid them now, with a few exceptions and often prefer written ones. Do enjoy ones who look at some older cameras. Live streams I enjoy the parts you noted, builds a nice sense of community for those who watch, but suspect the effort is high as you noted. One thing I do enjoy is when a live stream is a more a collaboration with a few others like minded folks. So perhaps you and a guest or two every so often…but of course that makes it more effort too 😊.

I fully support how you want to reposition your YT channel. This should always take second precedence to your own career. I don't tend to view the live streams simply because I cannot plan my life around live streaming, and only watch them if I can and only occasionally. As a long time follower of your channel, you are doing something very valuable to me and improving my photographic skills. Gear doesn't matter and I don't tend to watch them much. As for your videos, one thing that I find very useful is if you can take us through what is in your mind when you are composing a shot, how you set up your camera settings and how you edit the photo to produce a result that you had envisioned in your mind. I find that very useful, the thought process all the way to the final result. Thank you once again for your channel! Great stuff.

Thanks for sharing your website. The proof in the pudding is always how good the end results are. Having those photos presented to others keeps you at the top of the game, with a desire to do more, and sort through one's photos for the best images and how they were achieved. The next time going out, you think while photographing of what it takes to get it right, while keeping in mind what can go wrong. Most improved award, might just be the best of them all. " It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head " Henri Cartier-Bresson. Thus it is not the gear. Peter, your shots are great and improving, and that is much better than all the RUclips videos around world showing photo walks where the images are that of nothing, then claiming to instruct others on how to do street photography. I have viewed a thousand of those it seems. Your approach to all this has been different. You got the technical skills, then applied them to street works, while getting the feel of the street. You feel the street and become one with it. The best gear in the world cannot make you feel. The best technical photo of quality might be useless without heart and soul, with a story of nothing at all. Too many F1.4 photos on the street which are pretty, precise, yet boring as hell. The great photo of nothing. People are beautiful, and special in this world. It needs to be photographed. - Loren Schwiderski, street photography

You present it in an interesting good quality format, which interests me enough to watch the videos, throw in some lens obsession every now and again to feed the addicts amongst us, but keep up the good work. One thing though, only a part of my course covered photos you just happen upon. Stuff does also involve studios, lighting, making stuff out of junk or just some kind of creating for the camera. No one seems to do that on RUclips, everyone expects to just capture something great documentary style, which is only a small part of the thing.

I think RUclips in general is a good place to find photography videos in general, however gear videos are so overdone. One channel does a video on a new camera, then every other RUclips photography channel is doing the same content.
It gets so old and in my opinion every time I see a negative review on a product, I find myself getting that product to see for myself and in most cases, I find their review of the product wrong.
My prime example is the Panasonic S9. I remember when the S9 was announced then every major RUclips photography influencer being invited to Japan for the event. Then tons of REACTION videos to the S9. Who cares, really.
Biggest complaints I heard about the Panasonic S9 from the big gear review channels on RUclips are the lack of EVF and no active hot shoe for flash.
So I picked up the S9 to see what all these RUclips photography influencers were talking about. Again I found the camera to be amazing on the go as a street photography camera.
I take all photography gear RUclips channel opinions with a grain of salt. However, the only way to fix this, are RUclips viewers to stop visiting these channels and I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  2 месяца назад

When I saw the specs of the S9, I immediately thought it could be a great camera for street photography. I have not tested it and most likely won't since I do not need a new camera. I think Panasonic is into something with the S9.

New website looks good and I can see quite a different focus on there to the kind of images on the channel back in the day. I have no interest in Live streams I tend to find them boring and too long to wade through to find the content in the title. One video a week sounds good!

Unfortunately I did make too many test shots back when reviewing gear.

I have a blog. I only post when I have something to say. Just make content when you have something to say, not because you're chasing likes or clicks.

Live streams are not important, videos once a week are good and photographic centred videos are better as they help photographers develop. Software workflow ones are also interseting,. I would like to see how you use Lightroom and DxO PhotoLab as a plugin for your workflow in a video.

I will think about a video about my workflow with Photolab 8 and Lightroom Classic.

Mikä laki Suomessa kieltää kahvin ostamisen toiselle? 😊

Kyllä kahvin saa ostaa, mutta en voi sitä pyytää/kehottaa ostamaan RUclips videolla. Tuo laki on todella erikoinen sillä voin sitä pyytää kadulla.

Live stream must be 30m or less. Can't do long ones.

I haven't really watch Live Streams myself that much lately. I have the same reason as you, most of them are too long. I do understand that some like to hang out and ask questions and for some creators it is a great way to share knowledge etc. It can also be entertaining at the same time. As I said it is not something I like to watch that much. Maybe an interview of a photographer could be better?

@@ForsgardPeter Roman Fox (youtube) has tried the walkabout with different photographers & I believe the success has exceeded his expectations.
