If you ever do any more Home by the Sea parts 1 & 2 are also excellent live. Genesis is another fantastic band that sound better live than they do in the studio.
While I do prefer the Gabriel era there's quite a lot of the later stuff that I like. Home by the Sea & Second Home by the Sea which is really 1 song is absolutely epic.
Chester Thompson was Genesis's tour drummer after Peter Gabriel left the band. Having a tour drummer was necessary as Phill wanted to sing out front instead of singing and playing drums at the same time. Phil's kit us a combination of Gretch acoustic drums and a complete set if Simmons electric drums. Daryl Stuermer had been Genesis's Bass and guitar player starting with the And Then There Were Three tour. Daryl's bass has a Roland pickup in it to control synthesizers live. On this song Daryl is playing a Steinberger bass and Moog bass pedals. The bass pedals are played by his feet. Abacab is the title track from the Genesis album Abacab. That album was released in 1981. Daryl is also a member if Phil's solo band

Love Genesis and Phil Collins . I saw them live twice in the early 80s and they were amazing , it's worth remembering that Phil is also an awesome drummer and was at his best in my opinion on the Trick of the Tail album . Every track on that album is a masterpiece and well worth listening to and Phil is incredible on drums and lead vocals 😊
I read that too. But this is Wembley! That is the biggest football stadium in England. So if they get 127,000 for soccer, less the stage....THAT might be 100,000. But what about the field. The entire field is standing room only. It must be 150,000 or more on the field. So we must be seeing at least 250,000. Damn.
@@rk41gator It is nowhere near that. This is the old Wembley stadium with a normal concert capacity of 70,000-75,000. The venue record is 80,000 (Springsteen 1988). The New Wembley Stadium is larger, with record concert attendance of 98,000 (Adele, 2017).

Estimates of the number of fans in attendance range from 240,000 to well over 300,000." That was NOT the new stadium figures.

And you should have no problem verifying that Genesis played to 75,000 people per gig over 4 gigs, and not 300,000 over 1 gig. I’m done arguing about this. The figures from 1928 are skewed a little. It was all standing at that time and they packed people in (no health & safely in those days). I was at one of the gigs in Wembley back in ‘87, a realistic figure for each night was 70-75K
Yes. I was there. Genesis and Phil Collins always put on an amazing show. I have been fortunate to see both Genesis and Phil Collins multiple times live. I was actually at Phil Collins' very first solo concert at the Hammersmith Odeon in London after In The Air Tonight became Phil's first big solo hit. Amazing memories!

Really glad someone’s done this version. Bloody fantastic ☺️ The 320,000 was 80,000 four nights in a row (they were the first to sell-out Wembley four nights in a row). For me there was a clear switch over between Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins: The songs were much more impressive in the Gabriel era, but the live stuff was much better in the Collins era (especially if you like the drums). I could watch this gig over and over 😁 I’d just be a bit wary of a couple of things: 1) people asking you to do Supper’s Ready. They’re the hardcore and without listening to a lot of Genesis beforehand it’s like downing a dozen double whiskeys when you’ve never drunk it before: you’ll find it difficult to understand, you’ll not enjoy it, and you’ll never want listen to them again, and that way you’ll miss out on the best music ever to grace us 😄 2) I’d also stay clear of anything post 1993. Something happened to Phil’s voice after the 1992 tour and they really slowed the tunes down after that.
The Drummer is Chester Thompson, he played drums only for the live sets, he also was Phil’s drummer for his solo concerts. Also Daryl stormer is the other guitarist, he only played live for Genesis, and Phil concerts.
I was there. Roasting hot day, plus body temperature of the crowd. Remember coming out of there, tshirt soaked in beer, that was thrown about. Fantastic gig.
At least it was beer...i got a bag of something else flung over me...at Roundhey park the sunday before...the concert soon took my mind off it...i was about 15 at the time 🤪

I was there. My first Genesis gig and it was as totally amazing as you'd imagine it to be. They'd originally planned three nights that were sold out. I woke one morning and listening to the radio, I heard that they'd added a fourth night for the middle Friday, so I popped into town and bought a ticket from one of the distributing outlets (WH Smith for the UK audience). Best thing I ever did!

I saw them just an hour north of my home in Maryland on 11/18/2021 at the Capital One Arena in D.C. they did not play abacab but 40 years before I saw them at Capital one Arena they were on their Three Sides Live tour which was the tour for abacab,released in September,1981.
If you want to see a large crowd, watch WHEN IN ROME from 2007. They played to 500,000 people at that concert. It was the last time they were at full musical blast (before Phils illness took him downhill fast) and is a great send off to them at full pelt live.
This gig is incredible. One of few bands that are better live than on record. Domino, mama, and especially drum duet/Los Endos from this gig worth checking out.
I'm always asking people to do parts of this concert. This was the old Wembley Stadium not the new Arena, where they played to 300,000 over 4 days. And what en event that was. Saw Genesis just after Peter Gabriel left, and Phil stepped out from drums to front. Axeman Mike (and the Mechanics) Rutherford and producer extraordinaire, Tony Banks on keyboards, yea...they all did very well in the 80s. You should see the live Abacab from 10-30-1981 Frankfrurt Germany. It is a part of their Three Sides Live tour which was also a live album released in June,1982.
You have barely scratched the surface of Genesis. Many live videos to view….check out “when in Rome” from 2007 when they played to over 500,000 people. Then start on the back catalogue ….you are in for a treat!!!
As somebody has said, it was 4 nights for 300,000 & even though I was there in 1987 I've actually been in a bigger Genesis audience. I did consider flying out to their "When in Rome" concert which was several 100K & I think was 3 & actually cheaper to fly to than the ticket I eventually bought locally!
I don't feel bad for the younger folks at all. They have instant access to every song and live concert ever recorded within a few seconds on their various devices. What did we have? -definitely amazing music but crap, it wasn't easy to get at.
Genesis are top tier. Looking forward to seeing more Genesis and/or Phil Collins reactions. The title song from this tour "Invisible Touch" is great. I was lucky to be at this concert at the old Wembly, it was a great concert over 4 nights. In the Uk there were bigger audiences at concerts at Knebworth, which was an outdoor venue.
"four sold-out nights at Wembley Stadium in front of 300,000 people" To me that sounds like 75,000 each night. So there were 75,000 people in that crowd, not 300,000. That is also probably the maximum amount that would fit into the Wembley stadium. 300,000 was the total of the four shows.
It definitely was short of that & of course a different Wembley Stadium to the current one. Think Michael Jackson sold out 7 nights & then a year later the Stones did 5 but pretty sure Genesis were the first band to do 4 & good job they did because I went to the 4th one as did Prince Charles & Diana.

This version is a bit different from other live versions, and from the studio album. It has a much faster tempo for one, and some of the drumming is definitely different. They were on fire that night, with Rutherford spanking that guitar like it owed him money. One of my top 5 favorite Genesis songs. Always happy when people discover Genesis, no matter which era. This song still gives me goosebumps when Phil starts on the drums with Chester.
I saw this tour in a 15,000 seat arena. A little more intimate. Best live band I ever saw. Saw them 10 times on 6 different tours. Pristine perfect sound every time. Great light shows. Simply one of THE greatest live bands ever. Period. This tour was the last time I saw them in 1987 until I saw them again on the 2007 Reunion Tour. 20 years without Genesis live was tough, especially since I had not missed a Genesis live tour since 1978 before that. This was at their peak of popularity. Genesis almost was a hidden gem, almost "cult band" in the 1970s. They didn't have a top 40 hit until 1978. Their fandom was based on incredible slowly building loyalty based on their live shows and incredible Progressive Rock musicianship. You've just begun to scratch the surface of the wonderful magical awesome world of Genesis. Their live video recordings from 1972-3 to the present are a literal treasure trove of power, majesty and beauty. Phil Collins, the lead singer, started out as Genesis' drummer. He is first and foremost a drummer. That's him going back to drum after the vocal part of the song. He became BOTH the lead singer and drummer in 1975 after PETER GABRIEL left Genesis for a solo career. Ever hear of Peter Gabriel? Genesis didn't play Tarzan Soundtracks. That was Phil Collins SOLO. Phil started his solo career in 1981 while still remaining in Genesis. You'll need to learn to distinguish between Genesis music and Phil solo music. Two different things. This was GENESIS MUSIC. PS, in the future, don't stop a live video performance in the middle to spend 3 minutes looking up stuff on Google. Not good. Kills the momentum. Do your research BEFORE or AFTER the video performance. Your channel will do better.
I saw genesis live, with Peter Gabriel, then Phill Collins ( I was at this concert) then Peter and Phil (. 6 of the best Milton Keynes w.o.m.a.d gig) then with Ray Wilson. Lucky enough to go Knebworth, and to the last ever gig at Wembley. I’m very lucky and also now very old, but I am well satisfied.
Phil Collins wrote & recorded Tarzan outside of Genesis. A lot of hits on the radio were made by Genesis, and a lot of other hits were by Phil outside of Genesis. Same lead voice a lot of the time.
I was there for the Friday gig. It was brilliant . They were always great live. Please consider listening to Firth of Fifth from the Genesis album ; Selling England by the Pound. It's an absolute masterpiece.
Abacab is their album which was released September,1981 several months after Phil Collins first solo album Face Value in Feb,1981 if that helps. However five years and two albums later was Invisible Touch in 1986. This is in Wimbly I think in June ,1987 but please don't quote me on this. Take care Arias. Happy New year as well bro.
You should check the 2007 "When in Rome" video, there were 500,000 people there! (But they're 25 years older by then, and the music doesn't have the same energy as before.) Thank you for a great heartfelt reaction to my Favourite band of all time. I have been listening to them for over 40 years, their music never gets old. Two sides to Genesis, they were one of the founding Prog Rock bands in the 1970’s, along with other Prog Rock giants at the time, such as Pink Floyd and Yes. Singer Peter Gabriel was in the band until 1975 until he left to pursue his own successful Solo Career. Phil Collins took over as lead singer then. Genesis also had legendary guitarist Steve Hackett, until he left in 1977. Best example of Prog Genesis era is ‘Firth of Fifth’, probably one of the best prog rock songs ever written. You will certainly gain a few more followers if you react to that one. Around 1980 during the album Duke, Genesis transitioned to a more pop / rock sound, which I suspect is the Genesis you know, so I smiled when you say you ‘know’ them as I suspect songs like ‘Fifth of Fifth’ would be nothing like what you expect from them. Genesis fans tend to fall into two groups the 1970-1980 prog era fans and those that prefer Genesis post 1980. I am part of the group of fans that love both era’s. Some trivia for you only three people currently have sold more than 100m albums both as a solo artist and while in a band. One of them is Phil Collins, the other two ? Paul MaCartney and Michael Jackson. I look forward to seeing more Genesis reactions.
Obviously the 'newer' Genesis, which was more poppy. Maybe it is my age, but I prefer the older music by Genesis, from their debut album From Genesis to Revelation to Duke (1980). That was more symphonic rock or prog rock, my favourite albums are Selling England by the Pound (1973) and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (1974), the last album with Peter Gabriel as lead singer. Trick of the Tale (1976) is also excellent, and their very early albums have some epic songs like The Musical Box and Supper's Ready.
Duke was the first Genesis album that I heard. From there, I worked my way through their back catalogue and then discovered Peter Gabriel. This was a win win.
I had the pleasure of seeing Genesis perform live on five different tours. Each one of those shows was phenomenal. May I humbly recommend the following medley from one of the shows I was at. This is a medley that includes "In the Cage, The Cinema Show, In that Quiet Earth, The Colony of Slippermen and Afterglow". I was just a little to young to catch the Invisible Touch tour. But I made the three after that. The night my baby fell asleep listening as Phil sang Dancing with the Moonlit Knight/Carpet Crawlers will be a memory that lasts a lifetime.

This whole concert is GREAT. 'Home By The Sea' (both parts) and 'Domino' absolutely ROCKS.
These guys are FANTASTIC... SAW THEM EVERY TIME THEY TOURED THROUGH THE Eighties and early 90s... THAT'S the tip of the iceburg with these guys... So many hits
I saw them just an hour north of my home in Maryland on 11/18/2021 at the Capital One Arena in D.C. they did not play abacab but 40 years before I saw them at Capital one Arena they were on their Three Sides Live tour which was the tour for abacab,released in September,1981.

Lucky you. I only saw their 1978 tour and Phil hooked me for life. Genesis is beyond incredible.
If you want to see a large crowd, watch WHEN IN ROME from 2007. They played to 500,000 people at that concert. It was the last time they were at full musical blast (before Phils illness took him downhill fast) and is a great send off to them at full pelt live.

Wanted to go to Rome. Sadly didn't but I did see them on that tour as well as at Wembley in 1987.
I'm always asking people to do parts of this concert. This was the old Wembley Stadium not the new Arena, where they played to 300,000 over 4 days. And what en event that was.

Saw Genesis just after Peter Gabriel left, and Phil stepped out from drums to front. Axeman Mike (and the Mechanics) Rutherford and producer extraordinaire, Tony Banks on keyboards, yea...they all did very well in the 80s.
I saw Invisible Touch tour stateside, but they opened with Abacab, my personal fav. ❤

You should see the live Abacab from 10-30-1981 Frankfrurt Germany. It is a part of their Three Sides Live tour which was also a live album released in June,1982.
You have barely scratched the surface of Genesis. Many live videos to view….check out “when in Rome” from 2007 when they played to over 500,000 people. Then start on the back catalogue ….you are in for a treat!!!

As somebody has said, it was 4 nights for 300,000 & even though I was there in 1987 I've actually been in a bigger Genesis audience. I did consider flying out to their "When in Rome" concert which was several 100K & I think was 3 & actually cheaper to fly to than the ticket I eventually bought locally!
This was at Wembley Stadium (London) with 90k x 4 (sold out four nights). Genesis was pretty big.

I don't feel bad for the younger folks at all. They have instant access to every song and live concert ever recorded within a few seconds on their various devices. What did we have? -definitely amazing music but crap, it wasn't easy to get at.
These guys were SO good. Every time. In 2007 they drew 500,000 in Rome. But to blow your mind drop into some '70s Genesis.

I was lucky to be at this concert at the old Wembly, it was a great concert over 4 nights. In the Uk there were bigger audiences at concerts at Knebworth, which was an outdoor venue.
"four sold-out nights at Wembley Stadium in front of 300,000 people" To me that sounds like 75,000 each night. So there were 75,000 people in that crowd, not 300,000. That is also probably the maximum amount that would fit into the Wembley stadium. 300,000 was the total of the four shows.

Wembley Stadium has a capacity of 90.000 sitting places. So i think there were about 100.000 people there
maybe true but sold out 4 consecutive nights -that's a mind blower.
It definitely was short of that & of course a different Wembley Stadium to the current one. Think Michael Jackson sold out 7 nights & then a year later the Stones did 5 but pretty sure Genesis were the first band to do 4 & good job they did because I went to the 4th one as did Prince Charles & Diana.

This version is a bit different from other live versions, and from the studio album. It has a much faster tempo for one, and some of the drumming is definitely different. They were on fire that night, with Rutherford spanking that guitar like it owed him money. One of my top 5 favorite Genesis songs. Always happy when people discover Genesis, no matter which era. This song still gives me goosebumps when Phil starts on the drums with Chester.
I saw this tour in a 15,000 seat arena. A little more intimate. Best live band I ever saw. Saw them 10 times on 6 different tours.
Pristine perfect sound every time. Great light shows. Simply one of THE greatest live bands ever. Period. This tour was the last time I saw them in 1987 until I saw them again on the 2007 Reunion Tour. 20 years without Genesis live was tough, especially since I had not missed a Genesis live tour since 1978 before that.
This was at their peak of popularity. Genesis almost was a hidden gem, almost "cult band" in the 1970s. They didn't have a top 40 hit until 1978. Their fandom was based on incredible slowly building loyalty based on their live shows and incredible Progressive Rock musicianship. You've just begun to scratch the surface of the wonderful magical awesome world of Genesis. Their live video recordings from 1972-3 to the present are a literal treasure trove of power, majesty and beauty.
Phil Collins, the lead singer, started out as Genesis' drummer. He is first and foremost a drummer. That's him going back to drum after the vocal part of the song. He became BOTH the lead singer and drummer in 1975 after PETER GABRIEL left Genesis for a solo career. Ever hear of Peter Gabriel?
Genesis didn't play Tarzan Soundtracks. That was Phil Collins SOLO. Phil started his solo career in 1981 while still remaining in Genesis. You'll need to learn to distinguish between Genesis music and Phil solo music. Two different things. This was GENESIS MUSIC.
PS, in the future, don't stop a live video performance in the middle to spend 3 minutes looking up stuff on Google. Not good. Kills the momentum. Do your research BEFORE or AFTER the video performance. Your channel will do better.

I saw genesis live, with Peter Gabriel, then Phill Collins ( I was at this concert) then Peter and Phil (. 6 of the best Milton Keynes w.o.m.a.d gig) then with Ray Wilson. Lucky enough to go Knebworth, and to the last ever gig at Wembley. I’m very lucky and also now very old, but I am well satisfied.
Phil Collins wrote & recorded Tarzan outside of Genesis. A lot of hits on the radio were made by Genesis, and a lot of other hits were by Phil outside of Genesis. Same lead voice a lot of the time.
Stands the test of time.

Abacab is their album which was released September,1981 several months after Phil Collins first solo album Face Value in Feb,1981 if that helps. However five years and two albums later was Invisible Touch in 1986. This is in Wimbly I think in June ,1987 but please don't quote me on this. Take care Arias. Happy New year as well bro.
You should check the 2007 "When in Rome" video, there were 500,000 people there! (But they're 25 years older by then, and the music doesn't have the same energy as before.) More Genesis songs you are probably not familiar with, but which will shock the heck out of you:

Thank you for a great heartfelt reaction to my Favourite band of all time. I have been listening to them for over 40 years, their music never gets old. Two sides to Genesis, they were one of the founding Prog Rock bands in the 1970’s, along with other Prog Rock giants at the time, such as Pink Floyd and Yes. Singer Peter Gabriel was in the band until 1975 until he left to pursue his own successful Solo Career. Phil Collins took over as lead singer then. Genesis also had legendary guitarist Steve Hackett, until he left in 1977. Best example of Prog Genesis era is ‘Firth of Fifth’, probably one of the best prog rock songs ever written. You will certainly gain a few more followers if you react to that one. Around 1980 during the album Duke, Genesis transitioned to a more pop / rock sound, which I suspect is the Genesis you know, so I smiled when you say you ‘know’ them as I suspect songs like ‘Fifth of Fifth’ would be nothing like what you expect from them. Genesis fans tend to fall into two groups the 1970-1980 prog era fans and those that prefer Genesis post 1980. I am part of the group of fans that love both era’s. Some trivia for you only three people currently have sold more than 100m albums both as a solo artist and while in a band. One of them is Phil Collins, the other two ? Paul MaCartney and Michael Jackson. I look forward to seeing more Genesis reactions.

Obviously the 'newer' Genesis, which was more poppy. Maybe it is my age, but I prefer the older music by Genesis, from their debut album From Genesis to Revelation to Duke (1980). That was more symphonic rock or prog rock, my favourite albums are Selling England by the Pound (1973) and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (1974), the last album with Peter Gabriel as lead singer. Trick of the Tale (1976) is also excellent, and their very early albums have some epic songs like The Musical Box and Supper's Ready.
Duke was the first Genesis album that I heard. From there, I worked my way through their back catalogue and then discovered Peter Gabriel. This was a win win.
It’s curious to know that Peter Gabriel went on to more mainstream music as well on his So and Us albums. Sign of the times perhaps?
I had the pleasure of seeing Genesis perform live on five different tours. Each one of those shows was phenomenal. May I humbly recommend the following medley from one of the shows I was at. This is a medley that includes "In the Cage, The Cinema Show, In that Quiet Earth, The Colony of Slippermen and Afterglow". I was just a little to young to catch the Invisible Touch tour. But I made the three after that. The night my baby fell asleep listening as Phil sang Dancing with the Moonlit Knight/Carpet Crawlers will be a memory that lasts a lifetime.
