    Since I keep getting comments asking for it, I should mention that I actually have played Twinsanity in the past. I tried it for like 3 hours, and I really disliked it. That game is so insanely unfinished, it plays nothing like Crash, I don't like the acapella, and the writing is so "tryhard weird" if you know what I mean. It really seems like the devs said, "Screw it, let's just do whatever we want and throw out everything that makes Crash what it is." Not a fan. But I'll say, similar to Crunch, I like the idea of Nina. I think she has potential as a character. Same for Evil Crash and the school of evil. Good ideas. But pretty much everything else about that game I think is really stupid.

    Honestly I'd highly recommend Crash Twinsanity. I've noticed over the years that it seems to be one of those super polarising entries which every franchise seems to have where you either love it or you hate it, but I certainly fall in the camp of liking it for what it is. The level design's complexity and cohesion is rather lacking in some areas but I still think it has its moments of really fun and varied gameplay along with a broader scope, in that each level diegetically feeds into the next in a sort of quasi-open world. The story is relatively simplistic but its character moments more than make up for it in my eyes, with the game basically setting the standard for how the core cast continue to be characterised in every subsequent entry (including Crash 4). If anything, I think it's quite significant in its identity as the last true Crash platformer before the series pivoted to the brawler style of gameplay found in Crash of the Titans and Mind Over Mutant, and it's worth a try if you're curious as to what else the series has to offer.

      @@tucansamwell6209 It really is a shame that the game didn't get the development time it needed to be a more complete package since the final product is brought down quite a lot by how unpolished the gameplay can be, which is especially disappointing when considering how these issues often overshadow the more positive aspects of the game such as its expressive early 2000s artstyle and its impressively catchy a capella soundtrack. In a perfect world, the game would get the full-on remake treatment, giving the devs the opportunity to have all the kinks ironed out and implement all the exciting cut content from the original game and we'd see the original vision fully realised. Generally, I try not to look at the game in this way though since I think it's a very unhealthy approach to game criticism and I'd rather enjoy it for what it is rather than viewing it through the lens of what could have been.

    Wrath of Cortex was actually the first mainline Crash Game I owned and played. While I do feel it is overall less good than the past games. I was so confused when online people would talk of the game like it was straight up bad at the time. Surely, I could concede it was not the sequel anyone would have hoped and even arguably a step down, but...
    straight up bad? Always confused me. One thing I remember vividly was the weird experience I had with the game's loading. Back when I first played it, it had loading that made 06 look like jesus christ and merciful, but then for some odd reason after playing the game a couple times over the years, the loading just...fixed itself? It was bizarre and I never had any other game replicate this phenomenon.
    Personally I really like the rotosphere ball thing levels. I thought they were fun.
    I personally prefer Submarine over copterpack levels. There is a sort of basic rhythm to them that I just don't get from Copterpack which just feels very clunky to me. I also found sub levels sense of claustrophobia moody and more enjoyable. Screw those skull mines that drop from above though. Those things are assholes with how frequently they line em up especially later on.
    I'm surprised you had that much good to say About Coco. like Her gameplay enough but to me when I went back to play the game, the impression I got was "Coco doesn't really do anything all that unique, she is basically just slightly nerfed Crash", though I guess your explanation makes sense.
    I remember The Water boss giving me grief as a kid.
    Surprised you had that much of an issue with the JEEP level. Its no Mario Kart but even when I was younger, I didn't have all that much of a problem with it. Only took like maybe 2-3 tries.

    • @Pariah6950

      @ChaddyFantome 2 года назад

      @@Pariah6950 Worst part is when I was younger, I went back to play it and count 1-round the boss at one point. Then I went back to play the game a few years alter and I wondered how I ever used to do it. The main thing is that its surprisingly easy to slip off the end of the platforms.
      I remember me and my siblings used to grind lives for that thing, get some popcorn, and make it a dare challenge to see who could beat it passing the controller around.
      Also, I remember LOVED the heck out NitroKart. Great memories playing that game. I would say it improved on CTR in almost every way with a small handful of exceptions.

    I think you should at least give Twinsanity a try. It's the last of the traditional mainline Crash games before the Titans/Mutants stuff and it really builds upon a lot of the gameplay elements they were working on in the WoC/GBA games like the ball levels (done in a wayyyy more fun way than in the previous games). It also gets rid of the godawful "hanging" sections where Crash swings while grabbing a net/ladder like in Crash 3/WoC/GBA titles. The overall look and feel is way better than WoC, and the attempt at creating a cohesive world for the Crash franchise was done fairly well too, if still very lacking due to the game's rushed development. And honestly, I thought the writing and characterization of established characters in Twinsanity was the peak of the whole franchise. Cortex is hilarious. His backstory and details like his mom working at the salon or his time at the academy are all charming/hilarious. The twins had a lot more potential but they we're definitely not any worse than the mind-controlled Crunch/Elementals in WoC. The A cappella soundtrack deserves some love too. I felt like it did a lot for world-building and expanding the Crash gameplay in new fun ways. Obviously its still an unfinished glitchy mess with a lot of problems, but I found that the parts where it's "good", its REALLY good.
    Great content as always

    This, perfectly nailed the biggest gripe I had with N-Tranced. The "difficulty" in Big Adventure was in it's cleverly designed secrets that required precise platforming, replaying levels being more on the look out for secrets, or even being brave and leaping into nothingness hoping you find a gem. However in the sequel, that pole section of that level you mentioned was the bane of my existence. The difficulty comes in the form of how unpredictable the pole grappling can be and how high crash decides to jump. I thought it was frustrating that they exploited a faulty game mechanic to increase its difficulty. Also ran into a similar issue on the "pinball" levels. Still a fun time, just not as much as Big Adventure.

Even as someone who can’t really care for WoC, this still came off as relatively fair by comparison like it was giving the game as much of a chance as possible. excellent analysis as always!! :)
    Also hey if you ever do get around to Jak & Daxter (which i'd absolutely love to see) I'd really love if you checked out this video on the hidden depth of the gun combat of Jak 2 before-hand. Of course, I'm not trying to convince you to like something you simply do not like, or anything like that, but because it's kinda surprising how eye-opening it can be to really give all four guns a fair chance.
    Personally I think Jak 2 accomplished something incredible by actually making projectile combat that perfectly compliments a 3D platformer without going full ratchet-and-clank and having a reticle and all that. Imo the four guns are very well balanced and its generally overlooked by most fans, even myself until recently; especially when you take into account the "secret techniques" like the roll lock-on, wastelander combo and such.
    Its why I actually found Jak 3 a bit less enjoyable, because the sense of balance is reduced with all the new weapons seemingly-thoughtlessly introduced. Kinda like Crash 3 and the insane movement tech I suppose? XD
    In my recent playthrough I refused to use the beam reflexor unless absolutely necessary, and tried all the other guns as much as possible, as well as Light Jak and Dark Jak's underutilized extra moves, and found some of them surprisingly great in combat. The gravity purple gun can give you a quick moment of relief, the lightning gun does extra damage to robotic enemies, the wave concussor is great for groups, the Dark Jak's projectile could 1 shot some special enemies later on, and Light Jak's time stopper was actually super fun to mix with certain guns. Problem is the game never really incentivizes this, and most players will probably just spam beam reflexor and light Jak heal (understandably)
    Rambling sorry, but if you ever do a vid on those games I'd love to see your perspective on the hidden (and unfortunately very optional) layers to the combat! ^-^

    • @Pariah6950
      @Pariah6950  2 года назад +5

      I will probably talk about Jak at some point. And I totally agree about the guns in Jak 2. Rather than Ratchet which is more of a shooter with platforming elements, Jak's use of guns feels like an expansive projectile move set that flows really well into the platforming. Unfortunately Jak 2 has so many other issues with it's open world and mission design. And yeah, Jak 3 totally borked the system with super op weapons.

    Also, off-topic, but with how in-depth you go in regards to talking about the gameplay of these games, there's 2 I'd really like you to talk about:
    First one is Wario Land 4. I love the way the game is designed and it's pretty much in my top 5 platformer games. I'd really like to see what you have to say about it.
    The other one is very unrelated, but it's Ashes 2063 (and it's sequel, Afterglow). It's a post-apocalyptic themed FPS made on the GZDoom engine. It also has a surprisingly deep story for this kind of game too. Considering you talked about shooters in another comment, this is one I would also like to see your opnion on.

    Good video and here are my opinions:
    -Crash TWoC is ok, but it just feels a little like a poor man's Crash Warped overall.
    -Crash GBA 1 is good and still feels like a Crash game, even if it's 100% 2D (well like 95% 2D, but you know what I mean). Though it isn't my favorite Crash cause it does still have some flaws.
    -Crash GBA 2 is great, but it does get a little too hard in some areas, mostly in the last set of levels.
    Crash did start to go downhill with Crash Bash and Crash Wrath of Cortex, but it was saved for the most part by the GBA games and Nitro Kart and in a way with Twinsanity. But when Tag Team Racing came out, it wasn't a bad game, it just really started going downhill. While I do have a guilty pleasure for Crash of the Titans (it seems to be universally a guilty pleasure lol), it really sucks as a Crash game. Mind Over Mutant, I still have not finished because it just does not feel like Crash. I'm so glad N Sane Trilogy came out cause it led to a great comeback for Crash.

    Twinsanity is very overrated in the Crash community, and has a lot of fanboys that will make that game look way better than it actually is. If WOC started the slight downhill for Crash, then Twinsanity made the series fall straight down from a skyscraper.
