Thank you for taking the time to demo and create these wonderful videos. They are concise and easy to understand. Many of us appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank you Trollskyy for posting this. I have a shedload of gear ice put together for making Damascus and knives and I stalled completely because I was having troubles getting blades bevelled and I think you just solved that for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you and thank you some more. Keep making your knife making clips, you rock!!!
Ondrej Sabol it matters, hard steel throws fish hooks. its a real bitch, and still slower than grinding soft steel with the same belt. i hate picking those fuckers out of my socks.
I don't have a belt grinder, but I do have a angel grinder and a stationary grinding wheel (that is roughly 5-6 in or 12-15.5 cm). How should I go about making a bevel?
Tcamp I have tried and tried brother. He doesn't really make knives for a living, just shares knowledge. He has a love for the art of crafting metal into purpose, like so many of our ancestors did. I have begun building my own little shop to make knives for myself in this same tradition (High carbon steel and only wood, antler or bone for handles). I know where he is coming from because I love to shape and form beautiful things from chunks of hard, cold inanimate objects. It really makes you feel alive once you get into it. Just imagine if his line of knives blew up and became mainstream. He would become another sell-out like Ken Onion or Gil Hibben (who had a shop 20 mins. from my house). This guy does it for the love of the art, not for fame or fortune. That is why I am proud to watch and learn and try my hand at my own unique style of knife making.
Trollsky, two things: #1. Your videos are great. Thank you for making them, and I enjoy them very much. #2. Keep pronouncing the word "grind" as "greend", not "grynd". It is wrong, but it sounds better.
I always appreciate when people who don't speak English as their first language will speak English for my benefit. I enjoy the idiosyncrasies of the accents, too. Another point, I watched a few other knife grinding videos and wondered by the heck people were free-handing their grinding. A simple jig like this makes so much sense.
After a whole day of hard work I take a glass of wiśniówka and relax myself while watching your work. I do mechanics as my passion (some metal crafting too) however after a really difficult day I do not do any work in a workshop ( I would cut my fingers off) I just sit and relax while watching your videos that come with very good music. Thank you very much.
Started using your jig and what a difference it makes grinding the bevel. Thank you for taking the time to make the video and putting it out for others to view
Great video! I'm planning on making a knife for my husband for his birthday. Your accent is awesome too. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. These skills are valuable
Sir Thank you for sharing all your Knowledge with us. Your video's are easy to understand and you show how to make knives with simple tools that are affordable to those just starting out.I hope to be able to repay you some how in the near future.
Trollsky, man you made my day!!! So simple so easy but you have got a pro grinding machine. English and grinding skills together make you unbeatable knifemaking guy with polish roots worldwide. Greetings!
I started to watch your videos yesterday and I think they are great, I always wanted to start making knifes but it's very difficult to find a teacher, you helped me a lot and I think I will start soon. You are a great knifemaker and artist that is why you are confident to teach others. Many many thanks from Greece.
Hi Trollskyy, I have a question: when you grind the bevel, do you grind all the way to the center line or do you leave a little bit to grind off after heat treat? I was under the impression that if you grind all the way to your center line, this thinner edge may warp during heat treat and tempering. Thanks very much for your videos, you are a great help to someone just starting out making knives! Greetings from Germany
Trollskyy So you scratch the "grinding-line" in your painted metal, but while grinding, you stop 0,5mm from the line one each side? Sorry for my english, I have holidays and my brain relaxes too ;)
Thanks for making this, first because it really helped me. Second, it takes courage to make a video in your second language and post it for the whole world to analyze and criticize.
Master Trollskyy, thank you for your kindness! It takes a special character to share this valuable information with the rest of the world. I am looking forward to your next video if you also want to show us your method of creating a bevel with hand tools. Your home made belt sander is interesting. Anyway, greetings from Portland, Oregon, US!
Tyson Boren I saw that too and shifted my vision around to see if those letters are correct. maybe it is a language word they use that we also use but with different meanings. It amused me and if someone saw that word and know its meaning then they are a pervert. Im one.
@@user-ss2rd8du6w It is just Japanese for " to splash water " - "don't forget to cool it down" is what I am thinking he means - the western is an anti-euphemism and has perverted it's meaning. I do not pretend to know why he put it there, but from his accent, I would not believe he is western.
Mate you,ve been my teacher for some time now , my knives are in great demand thanks to your skill and teaching ability ...... you never know who or how you affect some people , i was a plumber for forty years and now my retirement is not so scary financially thanks to you , cheers my friend and thank you
One of the things I really like about your work that I have seen is you don't try to get technical. You keep it simple enough for anyone to understand...........well except for that anvil and celtic knife thing you did. Which by the way was awesome.
Howzit Trollsky? I hope you're doing well mate. Just wanted to let you know you've been incredibly helpful to me and I'm sure to many other people in both showing us your methods but also with motivation. You're constantly making great knives and jigs and all sorts of kit and I'm bloody grateful. You've got a lot to be proud of mate, keep it up
+Trollskyy Yes, in fact I burnt and broken the point of the blade, even if I was cooling in water oftenly :( I'll retry with 60 as soon as I'll have two days free for knife making ;)
Wow this is genius. My God you are smart. You have no idea how long I've been considering making my own knife but you made this look so easy with common sense that I apparently don't have. Thank you for making this video, you have no idea how much I appreciate it

Great videos! They are very well done and in a weird way very relaxing. Often times after finishing in my own shop I unwind by learning from your videos. Thanks again
Thank you. I'm making an attachment to add a wheel in place of the flat backing on my "grinder" this week. I still call it a belt sander like we did 30+ years ago when we made knives in the old family shop.
I loved how you simplified making a consistent beveled edge. Thank you it helped a lot also loved your axe making video also watching how you take the time for perfection. Very nice
I've seen your videos and have made me want to start building a knife to have if I dare, what you do is so easy, but because you are a great teacher, I hope soon to give start to the project, greetings from Mexico
very good job ! I started making knives last year , and i did have troubles with the bevel ! (they were not flat and iregular) thanks for this video , now I do the same and it works awesome !
your videos are the most informitive i have seen on you tube Very interstion and fun to watch. Being a fan of knives I am looking forward to the day when I can buy one of yours.
you are a very smart man!!! thank you for this video! I had been wondering how I would make a perfect bevel on my knife and now because of you I know how it is done!!! keep making you awesome videos!!!
I've appreciated simple sharp, useful purpose driven knives all my life. During my Army service, I depended on them up close. Now in my late 50's I think I want to make them for friends and family. Trollskyy I just caught your videos the other day, and I appreciate the straightforward easy style of your videos. I don't have the equipment yet but hope to watch more of your and others videos and sharpen my learning curve. I will also be letting friends know of your channel. Thanks for great instruction!! jerry cox
Hi Trollsky, you are one of my favorite RUclips producers. This video especially is very useful and informative. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, ingenuity, and experience.
A great how-to video, I learned a lot. And that tool you used to control the angle of the bevel was really clever and simple to make yourself, very nice!
Trollskyy You ROCK My Man!! You ever come to Florida....You got a place to stay,Buddy!! Love that Bevel jig, great idea....simple & effective. Thanks Man. Keep up the Good work!

Best instructions on knife making I have found on youtube. Thanks Trollsky.

7 years ago I watched this video with amazement. Today I have a knife shop of my own! Thank you sir!
Thanks too !
This guy is fucking awesome. Any guy who names his Grinder Bukakke is ok in my book.
I would guess he named it that because its hitting that bitch from every angle. XD
It shoots all over his face for an hour at a time... I think you have it backwards, Mighty.

wow that was a really nice trick with 4mm bit to scratch centre line
ma894 u can also just use a drillbit the same thickness as ur blade, I recommend wood bits due to the sharp point
I make bevel before heating. Don't like to work with hard steel

You probably have to answer this all the time; however, do you sell your knives?

The bevel jig was absolute genius and so simple. I had to make one and try it out on an old flat bar offcut I had. It works perfectly. Great job.

hello there. I am leaving 1mm of steel on the cutting edge and make a final cutting edge after heat treating
Thank you so much for a quick reply!
May I ask what type of oil you use to quench the knives?
Thanks!

just a simple sunflower oil. smells great :)

No :D
no :)
no, you are not the only one :D :D :D
Came to say the same. 5 years later

tell me someone else sees the word bukake on his belt grinder
I see it too..
LMAO...looks like he gets his "grind" on off camera too!!
Just two small questions.. Does your belt grinder say "bukkake" on it? Also, why does your belt grinder say "bukkake" on it?
Noticed that myself. Laughed like an insane man in my office.....People stared.
It's because there are a lot of sparks shooting down.

Deifnetly an Easter Slavic accent. Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, or Polish. But the way I know he's Polish is from the writing on his apron.

I just love watching your videos Trollsky. I find your way of filming, working, designing and teaching to be truly excellent for me. Thank you.
Hi Trollsky, which grit size are you using with the belt sander when you grind bevels like that? Thanks!
+Carmille Marsten I prefer grit 60
+Trollskyy Thanks! I tried grit 120 and now I see why it required so much time... :)
