  • On February 24, russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began. Active hostilities were approaching the White rock. An air battle took place in the sky over the Shelter and air defence was working around the clock in the area. The bears were worried about the growing rumbling. But we did not leave the animals, moved to the Shelter and took care of them.
When the front line and artillery battles moved too close, we decided to evacuate the animals.
Evacuation was extremely difficult and dangerous. The first round lasted 24 hours. It took a total of three days to transport all the bears. And finally, everyone ended up with our colleagues - in «Bear sanctuary - Domazhyr», in the Lviv oblast.
The bears began to calm down and study their new enclosures. And the cubs even met their brothers and sisters, whom we sent here last summer.
However, it turned out that Synochok was injured and serious tissue inflammation began. Veterinarians performed two surgeries and the recovery process took four months in total.
In the meantime, colleagues from Germany offered places for Malvina and the cubs in two excellent rehabilitation centers: the Tier-, Natur- und Jugendzentrum Weidefeld and the Alternative Bärenpark Worbis. Despite the rocket attacks, German colleagues came to us, loaded the bears and took them to their new home. Malvina and Popeye with Asuka passed the quarantine and now live in wonderful enclosures with new friends.
Synochok has recovered. When the situation in our direction became safe and logistics resumed, we returned. The bears recognized their home and were very happy with their enclosures.
    Life is coming back.
We believe in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and hope that there will be a peaceful sky above the bears!!!

Yes, this is a general problem of the resistance of animal housing to disasters and wars. Moreover, when events take on the nature of a punitive operation, e.g., the russian soldiers burned several stables with staff and animals to the west of Kyiv, killed volunteers just for fun ...
But we are trying to do everything in our power to face the challenges and save our animals. Even evacuate all when need.
