Nice to see the 3001 looking better, I can still remember going to Dixons and getting one with my Dad, unfortunately I think 14 or 15 year old me swapped it for a very beat up Amstrad 901 for some reason, oh well it set me off playing with radios which I still do to this day :)

excellent stuff. I had to do it as part of my apprenticeship (with a proper spray gun like you) as we have to respray organ front display pipes.

Some business radio's do have signal meters. Philips FM1100, Simoco SRM series.

Nice looking sets the midlands :-)) Edit: I used to like the slide in brackets they came with, nearly always missing second hand.

That’s a big improvement. Always wanted a blue case midland. Interesting to see the process on a case refurb once again and yes no bracket is a real pain. I need one for a little audio line set but cant find one!

Always had a soft spot for these midland radios, when you refer to the test set, what model set is it you use?

We have three Marconi 2951 test sets. There are other makes & models on other benchs.

    Hello Richard,
Great video compilation, and I've subscribed to your channel.
I've just picked up a Midland 3001 FM version, but it only transmits from channel 14 to 40. Channels 1 to 13 don't transmit at all.
Do you know where I should start looking for the problem please?

The VCO is out of alignment. Most of the time parts need to be added to read the VCO voltage as they used a pin jig to align it af the factory. I recently covered adjusting the VCO on the Midland 2001 that uses the same chassis. That set didb't need extra parts to make the reading. Ajustment has to be made with either a plastic or ceramic trimming tool....a metal screwdriver will break the core & affect the reading as well.

Many thanks for the reply, Richard.
I will attempt to find your video & follow your instructions.
This Midland 3001 I have here hasn't ever been used & hasn't seen daylight since March 1982, so how it's gone out of alignment is a mystery.

I can assure you that any piece of electronic equipment brand new in a box for 40 years is highly unlikely to work. Quartz reference crystals drop frequency wth age & electrolytic capacitors can dry out & lose their polarisation charge.

Opel Monza would have had the digital dash calibrated in km/h.

It was made for the UK market & not a personal import. The speedo was switchable for MPH or KMH. It did a thirsty 14.5MPG & didn't have air conditioning, whereas my Nissan Cedric (Y30) did 27MPG. Both cars having 3Litre engines.

There is something incorrect with this and similar chassis. The resistor in the feedback loop of MC3357 must be 47k not 4.7k !..

Great video mate, I have a Midland that could do with a respray as it has some rust spots.
Can I ask where you bought the spray paint from ? thanks in advance 👍

    Hello,
How did you manage to remove the face plate from the front bezel ?

    • @ukfmcbradioservicingTango21
      @ukfmcbradioservicingTango21  2 года назад +1

I just got my fingers to it & got the plastic tabs to come away from the part where they are melted into the bezel. I only damaged one tab...but not totally & was still left with a half width. I used Bostik adhesive to put it back together (and the escutcheon too). I put the front panel sandwich, after gluing) face down on the bench with a weight on top of it overnight.
